Are Creatvie EP-630 earphones OK for the ZEN 16

I guess the title about asks it all..... I ordered a new ZEN 6GB and I was thinking about ordering a set of the Creative EP-630 Earphones to go with it. Will these earphones sound OK with the ZEN? Any suggestions?

<Testing Summary>
The 6 ohm earbud "inter canal" is my preferred choice to use on the Creative Zen flash player.
It conserves power (current drain) and reduces the charging/discharging of the Lithium-Ion Polymer battery.
Discharge Time 32.250/29.250 = 0.25% discharge time more using 6 ohms than 32 ohms.
The factory supplied 32 ohm earbud "outer ear" can be used but it also uses more power.
Playing constant music, I ran a test (below) on the standard discharge duration/time on the Zen Lithium-Ion
Polymer Battery with the standard Creative provided "32 ohm impedance" earbuds "outer ear".
The Zen lasted ~ 29 Hours 5 minutes - The Creative Spec. is "UP TO" 30 hrs. <----- Not bad.
Discharge Time = 29 hrs. 5 mins = 97.5 % of 30 hours.
Next, I ran the same test but I used "6 ohm impedance" generic "inter canal" earbuds.
The Zen lasted 32 Hours ~ 20 minutes - The Creative Spec. is "UP TO" 30 hrs. <----- This is Great
Discharge Time = 32 hrs. 5 mins = 8.33% more than 30 hours. (rounded off)
Discharge Time 32.250/29.250 = 0.25% discharge time more using 6 ohms than 32 ohms.
How to check the ohms (impedance) of a earphone/earbud - for those with some electronics background.
Obtain a ohmmeter.
Zero the ohms, if possible
On the plug there are 3 isolated rings - the first ring is common and the other two are left/right
speaker/earphones.
Measure the common to either of the other two rings.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impedance_mismatch
Modern solid state audio amplifiers do not use matched impedances, contrary to myth. The driver amplifier
has a low output impedance, such as < 0. ohm, and the loudspeaker usually has an input impedance of 4, 8,
or 6 ohms, which is many times larger than the former. This type of connection is impedance bridging, and it
provides better damping of the loudspeaker cone to minimize distortion.
The myth comes from tube audio amplifiers, which required impedance matching for proper, reliable
operation. Most of these had output transformer taps to approximately match the amplifier output to typical
loudspeaker impedances.

Headphones are very much a personal thing in both style and audio response, so it depends what you like.

Also very strange is that I don't have the folder "MobileSync" in /Library/Application Support/MobileSync on my computer. I can't find that folder anywhere.
    Correct.
You need to go to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/.
The ~ indicates your User folder not the top level /Library/ folder.
Click on the desktop, then hold Option and go to Finder menu Go and Library will be there (only when holding Option as it is hidden).

Or does it? Because by purchasing Motion, you also get the Pro Res codecs and Animation. Will FCE be able to work with them if they're in your QT library? I think so but am not positive. I'd check with the FCE gurus in that discussion forum.
So I half answered my own question. FCE will respect the alpha channel in a PR 4444 file. But from the limited testing I was able to to, there doesn't seem to be a way to export it ( or other flavors of PR) as a PR sequence. It renders as AIC, which is fine. FWIW, it can always be exported as Pro Res via QT Conversion, but why bother?
However,  I now have to say – despite what I said in my first post – that I'm not 100% percent certain that the all the codecs will be available by buying Motion. I'm like 95% sure, the more I think about it. But I have too much NLE and graphics "stuff" on my systems to test it conclusively.

  • External Charger For the Zen Mic

will there be an external charger for the Zen Micro? So you can always have a juiced up battery ready and willing to go? =)

I think it's a huge inefficiency to require that the player be out of commission during the battery charging.
An optional external charger would remedy this problem and would make having a second battery the seamless way to have constant connectivity.
As it stands, you can't use the player for 3+ hours while it's charging.
These proprietary batteries that are only chargeable via Creative products are confining and non-user-friendly.
An optional external charger would make this player much more usable.
    PS - otherwise - I LOVE IT!!!

  • Firmware Maddness for the Zen Mic

Is it just me or is this firmware business out of control for the Zen Micro?
Having a .0 series and a 2.0 series at the same time is creating way too much confusion!
Aren't MP3 players supposed to be replacing portable CD Players and Cassette Players? Well the coolness factor is there, but the user experience has some serious room for improvment.
The common person would have no clue what the heck to do with all these firmware downloads. Even the descriptions of the firmware would be very confusing for most people getting into MP3 players for the first time. I am very happy with my Zen Micro and am using Windows Media Player as my Music Manager without any problems. I guess I am supposed to wait for the new 2..02 beta to get "un-betad" instead of downloading the new .02.05 but that's just a guess at this point. There are a ton of MP3 players out there with more features and a lower price than iPods, but they still don't come close to outselling it. That's because its the ease of use, not necessarily the features that separates iPods from the rest of the pack. Hey Creative, dummy these things down and watch your sales go up! You will reach a whole new set of customers if you do!

I agree, I'd like to see creatives mp3 players and napsters service to be a profitiable and long-lasting business because I think this way of finding and listening to music is wonderful.. but the firmware updates/formatting the dri've/and all this other technical stuff is a little bit much for the average person to deal with. Also the newest non-MTP version has a bunch of new fixes which the newest MTP version apparently doesn't even have but they both came out the same day or so? I dont understand that.

  • How long is the warranty for the Zen Mic

Can anyone tell me how long the warranty is for the Zen Micro? Thanks!

    SSR,
The year/90 days warranty is our standard for PDE devices to my knowledge. It does happen to be the warranty in the US; however some countries have laws requiring different warranty lengths. We don't do any warranties on current PDE products that are less than this to my knowledge.

  • What was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before M

I would like to know what was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before the MTP firmware?
Please make sure you are 00% on this.
    Thankyou.

I think it does, but I'm not sure; since I wanted MTP, I only used .x firmware long enough to save the original Creative test files (with MediaSource, not ZMME) before upgrading to 2.x. And yes, I had to li've with 2..02's shorter battery life until 2.20.05 came out.
May I ask why you want to go back to .x firmware? The only thing that will get you is the ability to use it with Win98SE/2000/Me--but only if you can install Creative drivers on every PC you use it with. MTP requires WinXP SP or 2 and WMP 0, but doesn't need any Creative software at all to work. (Microsoft has made an MTP driver for Win98SE/2000/Me, but it requires customization and may not be supported by other software. I'm tinkering a bit with the customization part right now.)
There are other pitfalls in changing Micro firmware families, in either direction--you'll lose all the files on your Micro, you'll have to install a different ZMME (and I've heard non-MTP ZMME isn't quite as full-featured as MTP ZMME), and you'll need a new plug-in for MediaSource to work.

  • Play for Sure for the Zen Xtra slow song transf

Since I updated the firmware for the Zen 60gig xtra to support the Play For Sure encryption, it has very slow song transfers. I am trying to transfer about 4500 songs. It does the first 000 normal then it is like 5 mins for each one after that. So it takes like 4 days to transfer. Is there some kind of patch or driver change I need to make?

Just an update, transfer is still goin good, so all of you that are having those hangs and slow downs this 3 hot fixes posted in this forum under the MTP Thread seem to work for me. However, being a Regional IT Manager I know that what works for one computer doesnt always apply. I remember seeing the IMPORTANT Note just before I downloaded the firmware and I thought, naw... I dont need any updates, I do my Microsoft Updates so im cool, but the hotfixes mentioned are not CRITICAL updates so you have to manually apply them. In my opinion this is not really a Creative issue since they are depending on the files from the Play For Sure protocal and those are coming from Microsoft, so they have to kind of rely on whats out there and unfortunately for us poor *******s to update. I am wondering if they can include the hotfixes in their install? SOmething that would detect to see if the hotfix is present and if not, install? Just a thought, or at least prompt you to go get the hotfix first then install.
