Are deleted photos really deleted or is there some kind of back up file.

i deleted a photo i did not want to delete is there anyway to get it back

If you deleted it from the iPhone, it depends on if you had it copied to your computer. If you didn't, it's gone for good. If it's copied on your computer, all you need to do is sync it back over.

  • Are my photos REALLY deleted?

I needed to make space on my jam packed hard drive so I backed up my iPhoto Library and started deleted photos that I don't need to carry around on the laptop.
But it seems that some of the images, or alias or some other versions of the photos might be on the computer way down deep where I'm not seeing them. They come up under the ALL Pictures...but they are not in my iPhoto Library.
How can I be sure that once I've deleted the photo from iPhoto that the file is gone completely from my computer? I'm convinced of this because I'm only showing 2 gig's left on my 60 gig hard drive. iPhoto says it has 7 gig of images, iTunes has 20 gigs and I don't have a lot of other files. Granted, applications take a lot of space too, but just in case I want to make sure what I've deleted has been actually removed from the computer.
Anyone have an idea of how to ensure this.
Also, is there a "clean sweep" kind of program for Mac? Is it necessary? My boyfriend has a PC laptop and from time-to-time runs this clean sweep program that deletes the random, unused, and partitioned files.
thanks in advance for the input.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
started deleted photos that I don't need to carry around on the laptop.
How did you go about doing this? The correct way is to drag the photos from either the Photos mode or the Events mode into the Trash bin in the left hand pane of iPhoto and then empty that Trash bin vis the iPhoto->Empty Trash menu option.
So unless you emptied the iPhoto trash the files will still be in iPhoto and on the HD.
There are applications that will go thru the HD and remove duplicate files. However, these will completely mess up an iPhoto library since there are at least two files with the same file name for every photo in the library. You don't want to do that.
If you have an external HD you could put your iPhoto on it and run it from there. A smaller library could be kept on the laptop with just the latest or most needed photos in it. If you needed to quickly change which library your were running or wanted to copy photos between libraries iPhoto Library Manager would be just what you would want. It makes changing libraries very easy and will let you copy albums or events between libraries while keeping keyword, titles and comments intact.
There is an application called WhatSize that will show you all of your files on your HD and sort by size you you know which are taking up the most space. That will let you determine which to delete if they are not needed. You can find it a VersionTracker.com.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • How Do I Know If All Email Deleted is Really Deleted?

I use a mid 2012 Mac Pro; run Mavericks, Mail 7.3.  How do I know if all email deleted is really deleted from my hard drive?

How deleted do you need it to be?
QuickTimeKirk says it may never have been stored on your Mac.  This assumes your mail connection is via IMAP, which keeps the mail on the mail server.
If you were using POP connection for mail, then your mail would be stored in
    Finder -> Go -> Go to folder -> ~/Library/Mail
    and
Finder -> Go -> Go to folder -> ~/Library/Mail Downloads
Any file deleted, will just have its name in the directory removed, and the storage given back to the file system to reuse at a future date.  Until the file system gets around to reusing the storage, it will still have the contents of the email written on it.
If you are using System Preferences -> Security -> FileVault, then the deleted storage will just be encrypted random bits.  Otherwise, it may be possible to recovery the email with the right specialized tools and enough time and money, right up until the storage is reused for another file (and even then with a lot more money and time, it may be possible to recover the email; when I say a lot more money, I really a whole bunch of money).
You can use Disk Utility to "Erase Free Space".  This cause Disk Utility create a file, then grow that file until all the unused storage, including your deleted email are allocated to this file.  The file is overwritten with an erase pattern, and then Disk Utility deletes the file, and now all the unused storage contains a random bunch of erase pattern bits in them.
If you are using an SSD (Solid State Disk), then due to the way SSD storage is managed, it is next to impossible to insure that the data is erased, and because SSD's have a limited number of writes before they start to fail, Disk Utility does no provide the Erase Free Space option, so as not to prematurely shorten the life of the SSD.  With an SSD the only way to be sure something cannot be recovered is to keep the disk encrypted using System Preferences -> Security -> FileVault.  And you would have had to do that BEFORE the email was written to the SSD, not after.
So, how deleted do you need it to be?

  • My iPhoto closed unexpectedly and now it says "Rebuilding the iPhoto Library database". What is going on and are my photos still going to be there?

My iPhoto closed unexpectedly and now it says "Rebuilding the iPhoto Library database". What is going on and are my photos still going to be there?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what were you doing when iPhoto closed unexpectedly?
how big is your library, i.e. how many photos?
how long has the rebuilding been going on?
do you have a recent backup of the library made just prior to this occurring?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Delete a Photo (Really Delete to Trash)

Is it possible to not just remove from a persons profile of faces but actually remove entirely to the trash a pic? I've found a couple of bad pics of my face and when I delete them......they just disappear from faces whether they are tagged or not....and do not appear in the trash....

TO delete photos from iPhoto select a photo(s) while in photo view or event view of the library and drag the photo(s) to the iPhoto trash in the source panel on the left and empty the iPhoto trash - iPhoto menu ==> empty trash
What are you trying to do
You have a library - each photo is in the library and can be viewed in different ways - events, photos, faces and places - you can not delete a photos from one view and leave it in the others - if it is gone from the library it is gone from all views
You can not delete a face thumbnail
Please describe what you are doing and what you want to try to do

  • Deleted photos not deleted from hard drive

I have deleted photos from Lightroom 4 by choosing the 'remove from disk' option. I never want to see them again so want them to go into the iMac Trash. However they are still in the folder where the original RAW files are on my desktop. Am I doing something wrong or does the delete process take a while to complete?
    Thanks

There is no "Remove from disk" option.
If you click Remove, the files are removed from your LR catalog. If you click Delete from Disk, they are sent to the recycling bin/trash can - provided the disk has one and you have premission to use it.

  • I just recieved an iPad mini iOS 7 and currently use an Android 2.2 phone which I would like to share stuff by way of bluetooth. It says that they are paired, but won't connect. Are they not compatible? Or is there some app that makes it work?

I have been able to pair them, but they wont' connect. Is there a compatibility issue? Or is there some app that I can get to make it work?

iOS does not support file sharing over BT. To the best of my knowledge, there are no apps that will allow sharing from iOS to Android over BT but, I could be wrong.
You can use a service such as DropBox. Or just email things.
    Best of luck.

  • Is there some way to import image files directly into an open document?

Is there some way of importing a series of image files, say jpegs, directly into an open document, rather than having to open all the image files and having to drag and drop each individual one into the open document? Specifically, I'm a dentist and I often get digital xray images emailed to me from other offices. But they come as 16 or 18 individual image files and I have to put them into a virtual "xray mount", so I can view them all at once, rather than having to open all the images and toggle among them. So I open a blank document in PS (CS4), then I navigate to the folder containing all the image files I received, select all of them and open them all. Back in PS, I now have to select each image tab and drag the image into the blank "mount" and close the image. That new image then becomes its own layer in the "mount" document. But I have to repeat this 18 times for each patient! I was thinking if there was a way to open the new "mount" document then select all the image files and somehow "import" all the image files directly into document - essentially "automate" the process - that'd save me BOATLOADS of time and aggravation! Anyone out there have any suggestions? Thanks alot!! Dr. G.

Thanks, Curt! When u say "animate" do u mean File | Automate...? Inside Automate, I can't find "Make Frames from Layers"...if you do mean "Animate" I can't find that menu. Zeno replied with a BRILLIANT clarification:
<<Yes, but after you've got all your images as layers in a new document you can simply Select->All Layers and then drag them all to your document in one fell swoop.>>
I tried that and it works like a charm! I select all 20 layers in the new document that "stacking" creates and just drag them all onto the virtual "mount" document. That's it! Then I just move each of these layers around as I would otherwise...it's just 1 click and 1 drag/drop. Unless someone comes up with a way to actually "import" all the images directly into the "mount" document, I think this appears to be the most efficient route to follow.
I really appreciate your guys' assistance! It's so great that you guys monitor the forum and help us out with our Photoshop problems! What an awesome program it is, right?
    Thx again!
    Leon
