Are downloaded photos safe from malware/spyware?

I'm getting ready to set up a website in which I will download photos from a hosting site to my Macbook. Before now, I trusted everyone/site I downloaded photos/info from. Now, is there any reason for me to be concerned about malware/spyware when downloading photos from this hosting site, which is very reputable? All the photos will be in .jpg format. Most will probably come from PCs, however. I have read some previous posts that malware/spyware is very unlikely on real .jpg-format photos, but I'm just checking.

What is the site from where you are downloading photos? If they come with malware (I doubt it), it won't affect to your computer because they would come with Windows viruses, so your Mac won't be affected by these files. • Canon EOS Utility crashes when I try to download photo's from Canon 40d

As the title says, my EOS Utility crashes as soon as I turn on my 40d to download photo's from it. I've upgraded to the latest Canon Software for DPP, Imagebrowser, EOS utility etc and have got the latest firmware on the 40d itself.
    Anyone else experiencing this?
Anyone know if Apple / Canon are trying to fix it?
    Anyone got a solution?

I too use Canon EOS Utility, for a 5D.
I am still using version 2.4 of the software with my cheap and cheerful generic CF card reader (from Play.com) and it all works fine. The rest of my Canon software is okay, although I do not use it much, preferring RAW Developer and Elements 6, however I still use the EOS utility to download images from my CF cards.
So as to wether this is an SL problem who knows. I have read in other threads here about problems with card readers not being recognised, replacements having to be purchased.
My SL went okay with virtually no glitches, so I may be one of the lucky ones.

  • HT4108 Will it be possible to download photos direct from a Cannon or Nikon camera to a iPadHD?

Will it be possible to download photos directly from a Cannon or Nikon camera on to a iPadHD?

You have to use Apple's Camera Connection Kit. It's best to import from the camera's SD card, rather than connect the camera.

  • Is there a way to download photos directly from camera to iPad?

Is there a way to download photos directly from camera to iPad 2?

Yes,  you need to buy the Camera Connection Kit from Apple.  It has two dongles that plug into the iPad, an SD card reader and a USB that you can connect your camera to.  (This USB port is for cameras, and I believe, for keyboards - not for attaching other devices to, like a hard drive.)

  • After photos are downloaded to MacBook from mini iPad, if they are removed form the camera will they also be removed from Photos also?

After photos are downloaded from iPad Camera,  if they are deleted from the camera, will they be automatically deleted from the iPad Photos?

Yes, both Photos and Camera use the same data in Camera Roll.

Can you please provide some more info as:
    1. On which OS are you observing this problem?
    2. Have you setup email on your iPhone and ever saved any photo attachment from any email?
    3. Have you ever edited any photo with any application from the iphone itself?

  • Downloading photo files from an SD card

I know you can use an sd card connector kit to download images to the newè iPads. A few questions:
My sd card has both a raw and jpeg version of each image, but I only want to download the jpegs. Since I believe the iOS doesn't show file extensions, how can I identify just the jpeg images?
Once on the ipad, where are the photos placed?
Can you create separate folders and place certain images in them?
And if you edit an image and save it as a different file, can I place it in a folder I've created?
Finally, after doing this is there any reason that I can't put the card back in the camera to take and add more photos to the card, to again plug into and download to the iPad?

You may want to download the pics to your computer where you can identify which are jpg and raw.
Then You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Why are my photos different from originals in iPhoto 9.5.1?

    Hi
I import photos from my iPhone 5S, if I then hit 'revert to original' in 'Edit' mode they look very different? Why is this?
Is the iPhone or iPhoto adding certain qualities before I have done anything myself?
I want to use the photos for a website and want them to look as good as possible across the web, different computers/screens/software etc
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel

With iOS version are you using?  And in what way are your photos looking different?
"Revert to original" will remove any filters added in the Camera app. iPhoto on your Mac can undo certain adjustments added on the iPhone.
Have you enabled effects in the Camera, like Chrome or Instant?

  • Downloading photo directly from digital camera to zen microph

Is it possible to download photos from my digital camera to my zen microphoto without my computer? Or is there another (small) hardward that would work? I'm traveling to asia and would like to store my photos but I'm not taking my computer.

I don't think it's possible to do it with a Creative player, but I've seen a few relati'vely low-cost portable hard disks that transfer directly from a camera or flash card.
Another possibility is just buy one or more large ( GB+) memory cards for your camera.

  • Why are most photos disappearing from albums in iWeb?

I'm having a problem with the photo albums on iWeb.
I drag a photo album from my iPhoto window in iWeb to the photo album web page and it becomes an album with slideshow capabilities. If I publish the site, everything appears fine. I save iWeb and exit.
Now if I open iWeb again, all three of the photo album pages still exist, but on each page, only four of the original photos remain. The albums are supposed to have 29 photos, 35 photos, and 46 photos total. Now they each show four.
I thought it was a fluke, so I added them all again including captions. Then I saved, closed and reopened iWeb. The photos in the web albums were gone again.
I'm using iLife '09 with the iPhoto that exists on my laptop, but all the source photos are located on a Mac Mini in my local network. Any ideas on why this is happening and how I can fix it?
Note that the complete album as uploaded to the actual website still exists and works great. But if I publish the changes, the album will disappear.
    Thanks.

Look under "More like this" on the right of this page, specifically "Re: no photo selected"; the discussion there may be of help.

  • Why are my photos importing from my sd card out of order?

Why are my photos importing out of sequence when uploading from an sd card?

The card is probably sorted alphanumerically in ascending order, i.e. a1, a2, a3, etc.  So set your view option to: Sort by Title Ascending. Then check to see if that's correct.  If not change it.

  • Are Laptops inherently Safe from Power Spikes and Failures?

Are laptops like the iBook or MacBook series inherently safe from power spikes and short power failures due to the fact that they essentially are running on battery power all the time anyway? Should one use a UPS for a laptop?
I have my iBook connected through a surge protector, but it is not connected to a UPS as well. Should it be? The reason I ask is that today, there was one of these split second power failures. I was not at the computer at the time, but noticed that the printer recycled. When I went to my iBook it was dead. I couldn't start it by pushing on the start button either with the power cord plugged or unplugged. I thought it had gotten zapped some how. But how?
Just for grins, I removed the battery and plugged in the power cord. It started up fine. I powered down, place the battery back in and it started fine on the battery as well. What do you suppose was going on here?
    -Bill

    Bill,
No, it isn't. You can get power spikes through the AC power cord, the modem, the ethernet port, or any peripheral connected to the computer. A power conditioning UPS is your best bet for protecting it. Make sure that all other connections are also routed through the UPS, too.
It's likely that what happened was that the clamping voltage for the surge protector was too high/too slow to completely prevent a surge into your laptop - either on power down or on main power restoration. It wasn't enough to fry it, but was enough to trigger an overload. Removing the battery allowed it to reset and operate normally.
Since I live in Lightning Central every monsoon season, I can tell you from experience that it is far less expensive to replace a burnt out power-conditioning UPS (or UPS batteries) every few years than it is to replace a boatload of cheap surge protectors or non power-conditioning UPSes and attached hardware.
