Are drivers needed for USB2 PCI Express cards?

Most of the cards out there are made by companies that I've never heard of. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the lack of reviews makes it tough to choose. Although I don't really like Belkin, I'm leaning towards their card (it's nicely priced). The only problem is that they don't mention if it'll work in a Mac.
I would have assumed that it would be cross-platform, except that when I looked at their Firewire card it only mentions Windows.

You should probably check and see what MacSales (OWC) lists as well as xlr8yourmac.com which usually has reader reports, and don't forget MacIntouch (easy to search from my experience).
Aaxeon seems to be popular and supported, first heard of them with the PCIe G5s and is what OWC and FWDepot carries.

  • Need hardware drivers (Only!) for NI PCI-DNET card, P/N 184726E-11. Do not need Labview run-time, Silverlight etc.

I need to install just the Windows XP hardware device drivers for my PCI-DNET card, P/N 184726E-11.  Ordered under P/N 777358-01, the card is boxed with an installation CD-ROM.  CD-ROM is NI-DNET for windows Ver 1.6.7.  When the install app runs, it is trying to install all sorts of stuff I do not need - Labview Runtime, Microsoft Silverlight, Development Support, Automatic Updaters, etc.  This card is being installed in a "production" machine.  We have our own software, already developed, that talks to the card via the O/S.  The hardware/device drivers are most certainly on the CD-ROM, I just need them identified and instructions for installing them.
    Thanks,
    Ed

Thank yor for the reply.  However, it is not what I am looking for.  The suggested download is 406MB.  That's everything but MS Silverlight and the kitchen sink - overkill for our needs.  We only need to install the Windows system driver for the card.  We do not need Labview RT and the other development/support stuff for this installation.  We have our own communications software that talks directly to the hardware, via the windows system driver.  I have the 1.6.7 software CD-ROM, and need to know where the Windows sytem hardware driver/driver installer is located and what is the preferred method for installing only the hardware driver.
    Thanks,
    Ed.

  • Ok, so now I need a new eSATA PCI Express Card for my Mac Pro

I have a Seagate eSata External Drive which comes with an eSATA PCI card.
The http://www.cwol.com/serial-ata/esata-pci-express-1-ext-1-int.htm site recommends this card: eSATA PCI Express Card - 1 eSATA II and 1 Internal SATA II Port, but it doesn't specify whether it works on a Mac Pro - any suggestions?

    Hi
I think the Radeon 9800 is certainly the most powerful graphics card you could buy for your G4 and would do everything you need.
Just be aware there are at least 3 different Mac versions though.
There's a G5 version, the Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Special Edition, which is 8X AGP and has 256MB VRAM.
There's an older Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition, which is 2X/4X AGP and has 128MB VRAM.
Finally there's a newer Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition, which is 2X/4X AGP and has 256MB VRAM.
So long as you get one of the 2X/4X AGP versions, either with 128MB or 256MB VRAM, it should work fine.
It's perhaps also worthwhile mentioning they do require a separate internal power connection, although this can be taken from a hard drive molex power connector. Also they have a cooling fan which can be noisy.
    I hope this helps.

  • Mac Pro doesn't recognize USB 3.0 PCI express card

Mac Pro doesn't recognize USB 3.0 PCI express card.  Does it need specific drivers?

I did a little searching for that card.  The more I looked at it the more I felt that, yes, it needs a driver, and no, one doesn't exist for the Mac.  So it looks like that is a card only supported for PC's. But to be sure, if I were in your place at this point, I would contact MSI directly.

  • USB PCI-Express Card half working???

    I just purchased and installed a SYBA PCI-Express USB 2.0 5 Ports Controller Card (Model SD-PEX-NEC5U) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186010&Tpk=SD-PEX-NEC5U
I think it's half-way working. I did some researching prior to my purchase and I was under the impression that the Mac Pro (2006) could accept any PCI-express card. I have my Kensington USB bluetooth adapter plugged in (to the internal port) and it powers the adapter light and both my wireless mouse and wireless keyboard work perfectly. However any of the devices I plugged into the rear 4 ports are not working... (ie my Western Digital 1 TB hard drive that has 2 partitions on - one for Time machine backups and one for regular storage)
According to the Syba website, Mac OSX is not listed as a supported OS. The card came with a drivers disc but doesn't have any Syba drivers on it... tons of other manufacturers.
Can anyone offer advice about installing drivers or "adding hardware" (a la Windows)? Again, it's working with my bluetooth... so whats up with my hard drive?

A safe place to check and start your research is OWC.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/add-ons-and-hubs/pci-pcmcia-cards
As for MyBook - they can be iffy; if a drive fails, it is built into the case, so I prefer to buy cases with USB/FW and that you can install a drive yourself, even if comes with one.
USB: when there is FireWire and you can easily add SATA PCIe, yes they cost more but then they can drive multiple drives at full performance too.
When you buy generic cards, see if they use the same chipset as found in Sonnet Allegro and others.
    Then check
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ for reports in their upgrade database and articles.
And no, it requires PCIe, but not just any (and even PC with Windows 7, some cards can also be problem).

  • Mic issue: SB X-FI Extreme 7.1 PCI-express card. New driver/software to blame?

NMic issue: SB X-FI Extreme 7. PCI-express card. New driver/software to blame? My mic has worked perfectly up untill the new driver update. It is now version .04.000 released 30 June 09'. That was yesterday as of this post. It was a complete reinstall of the driver and software and a new updater. When I finished all of the updates my mic no longer worked. Keep in mind that I have 2 mics and neither of them work. With the old driver and software I was able to access the Creative Audio Control Panel and I would find a tab called "Jacks". In that tab I could select "line in" or "microphone". I would select microphone and all would work well. Now I have a completely dumbed down Creative Audio Control Panel interface with no option that is similar. I have clean wiped and reinstalled the driver and sofware updates 3 times now with the same effect. Can anyone help please? I really don't want to wait -3 weeks for Creative support to get back to me. The only thing worse than Creative support is UBISoft support!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
You need a 3G broadband module?
As far as I know some of the M700 Portege series have been equipped with the 3G module I think its from Novatel but Im not quit sure
However, if you need an part for the Toshiba notebook which would be compatible for sure, then the best place for buying such part is your ASP.
The guys could check what parts are compatible and could order it from Toshiba if this would be really necessary

  • ESATA PCI Express card not being recognized

I have a Macbook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz and I'm having trouble getting an eSATA PCI Express card to be recognized in either MAS OS X (10.5.6) or Win XP SP3.
When I plug a FireWire PCI Express card into the slot with a drive attached it gets recognized right away but the eSATA doesn't.
I can go into the system profiler when the card is plugged in and MAC OS X sees the card but the drive doesn't get mounted, or there is no prompt for me to initialize the drive (if it's a new, non-formatted drive). I've tried installing the driver that comes with the eSATA card with no change.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try?

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try?
    Hi,
Typically, this type of issue is caused by an incompatible enclosure or a card problem.
Please provide a link to the card and the enclosure for additional help. If you need an ExprressCard/enclosure combination that works I would suggest FirmTek.

  • Firewire PCI Express cards

I'm sorry if this is semi-redundant with the usb pci express card page already posted, but I was wondering if anyone knew if either of these would work on the Mac Pro:
    http://www.aaxeon.com/products/Productdetail.aspx?cate=8&modelno=FWB3414#specs
    http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=709052
If so, does anyone have any experience with either or know which is better? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
    Mac Pro

I checked OWC and they are saying Aaxeon for any PCIe Mac (dual core, quad, and Mac Pro). SIIG is probably, as usual, just reselling and putting their name on someone else's (and probably someone else's firmware, too).
I don't like the "20MB/sec writes based on manuf's tests" part though. But I probably will pick one up nonetheless.

  • Adding Firewire 800 PCI Express Card to G5

I wanted to add a Siig Firewire 800 3-Port PCI-express card to my G5. One of the requirements was connecting a 4 pin power y cord to an available 4 pin power connector for reliable power output. I can't locate an available 4 pin power connector in my G5. Is there one available? Where is it? Which slot is best for the installation?

#1 zapping PRAM/NVRAM has to be from a cold start, and done thru 2 reboots (don't need to go crAZy with 3-5).
#2 Open Firmware is thorough, efficient, and can be done on any type of startup.
#3 "reset-nvram" - as I mentioned above, should be first step in hardware troubleshooting or anytime after changing hardware and getting a kernel panic on first restart.
    (whoops)

  • Now that Mac's are INTEL??? PCI-Express

Why do I still have to purchase a pci-express card for mac when they make the same one for PC. What's soo different?Won't the one one for the PC work in my mac? I want to take out my video card and use a better one that was given to me but I was told it will not work eventhough they make the same card for the mac. Is there anything special about the PCI-E that is made for a mac? I would like to purchase a HD tuner video card for the mac. Does anyone know what one I should buy?

Well, if you read  the forums you will find the question has been answered several times.  Basically, the problem is that PC video cards do not have the firmware to boot an EFI-based operating system because EFI is not used on PCs, rather they use BIOS.  Also, the Mac cards require an Apple ROM.  Hence, the PC cards will not work in the Mac Pro.  Presently neither ATI nor NVidia are selling separate Mac Pro compatible video cards.
I believe your choices for TV tuners are EyeTV, El Gato, MyTV, and Formac.  You can Google them for more information.

How can I find out which version of Airport Utility is needed for my Airport Express A1084????

I have this issue, too. The problem with the advice from Saito_Chickara is that Mavericks (I'm on 10.9.2) does not allow you to run AirPort Utility 5.x. So for those of us on Mavericks, what can we do? I have yet to find a solution. This is really frustrating.

I just put in a Firewire 800 PCI Express card in my Mac Pro. If I add a Firewire 400 PCI Express card also to my Mac Pro will the 800 card work as in 400 speed due to the PCI Express 400 card being added to the Logic board?
    Thanks!!
