Are extensions in the Safari gallery safe?

Hi,
I'm not a huge extension person, but there are a few in the Safari gallery on Apple's site that interest me, but they are from small developers.  I know the galler is similar to the app store (in terms of needing apple's approval) but I wanted to ask this question:
Are extensions in that gallery safe from Malware or should you only use big name ones like adblock and WOT?
Can any of them access data on my actual HDD like some of Chrome's can?

I doubt there is much checking on that Gallery, but it wouldn't have any malware.

  • How do I edit the Safari 2 Safe Files list

I need certain filetypes to be auto-opened, usually in my own Automator scripts. With some web searching, I found some information about a plist file that can be edited to add to the list of auto-opening safe files, but this seems to have no effect on my version of Safari. Could someone please post a link that explains how to do this?
    I'm using OS X 10.4.8 and Safari 2.0.4.
    Thanks!

This doesn't apply to me anymore.

  • Are apps from the opera store safe?

The Nokia Store app on my Asha 311 is now redirecting to the Opera Store. When I tried to download and run an app, the phone gave me a security / unsigned warning. How can I tell if an app is safe?

That error means, JAD/JAR were no signed by a code-signing certificate (or more precise, the JAD does not contain the line MIDlet-Jar-RSA-SHA1, which is a hash of the next to recive JAR). Code-signing makes sure the author of the app is known by person/address and the JAR was not changed between you and the author. That’s it. If the code-signature is missing, you cannot say, the app is not safe.
If you double-check the author yourself – here PicoWireless – and if you trust the Opera Mobile Store, you are done. By the way, in the case of PicoMail, trust is a complicated matter because PicoMail uses its own proxy server to compress/enrich your E-mail messages. This allows you to receive very big E-mail message, even though the heap memory of your phone is limited. However, because of this proxy, PicoWireless obtains your username/password for your E-mail account in clear text.

    HI,
You have CTLoader/Conduit installed that is most likely the causing Safari to crash.
Open a Finder window. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left. Then on the right open the Input Managers Folder and move these files to the Trash.
    CTLoader/ctloader.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ctloader
Now in that same Library folder open the Application Support folder and move these files to the Trash.
    Plugins/cttoolbar.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ct_plugins
In the same Library folder open the ScriptingAdditions folder and move these files to the Trash.
    ctscripting.osax/Contents/MacOS/ctscripting
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Loading Textures in the Filter Gallery Texturizer

I created a few seamless tiles in PSD format to be loaded into the Texturizer filter under the Filter Gallery in CS6 on a Windows 7 machine.
In the flyout menu, there is an option to LOAD a new texture. I loaded four or five new ones, but only the last one is visible in the list. From all I can tell, I will always have to load a new texture there to be able to use it. The default textures are always loaded : brick, burlap, canvas & sandstone.
In the plug-ins section of the Preferences, there is a check box for : Show all Filter Gallery Groups and Names. What does that do?
Is there something I am missing that would allow me to add a dozen new textures and make them always accessible in the Texturizer plug-in?
    Thanks in advance,
    M. Jackson

It enables/disables the showing of all filter gallery groups and names.
Look at the Filter menu with the preference unticked. Then tick it and look at the Filter menu again - there will be more submenus of filters which are accessed through the Filter Gallery plug-in.

Unfortunately, you're not missing anything that I know of. The majority of Photoshop's filters need an overhaul to bring them into the 21st century, but I guess that'll always be shoved to the bottom of the "to do" list until Adobe hires a significantly larger Photoshop software development team.

  • Why has the filter gallery in PS CC quit working?

The filter gallery in my Photoshop CC has, out of the blue, quit working. The filters all appear and if I apply one the blue progress bar appears in a normal fashion, but nothing is applied in the preview or in the file if I hit OK. In looking through help files I found that Wacom tablets can cause issues and a special plug-in is the recommended fix. I use an Intous 3 tablet so I installed the plug-in but that didn't change anything. Now I'm stumped. Anyone know why this is occurring?
    Charlie

See if maybe the filters are disabled in the filter gallery.
There should be an Eye next to the filters that are active.

  • Why can't I post a new topic in the Safari discussion board?

When I go to the Safari discussion board, there is no Post New Topic button.
    Why?

    Hi Scot!
You are probably on the Safari Category page.
From there, you need to click the Safari Forum page.
On Forums there is an option to Post New Topic.
    EDIT: Yep!

  • I have been noticing that many people are having problems with Safari 3.2.

What is going on? Does anyone know? Is Apple aware? I want this fixed because over the last hour, I restarted my computer like about 5 times and then finally decided to use, yeah, Internet Explorer . Safari used to be my favorite browser until around Thanksgiving where they started delivering horrible updates.

I lived in Maryland for 50 years and really miss the Bay.
Now what is your question regarding Safari?
On second thought, you should close this window and post your own question in a new thread since you are posting in the Safari for Windows side of these Discussions pages.

  • I can't download from the Safari Extensions gallery

    Hi,
*I can't see any download/install buttons in the Apple Safari Extensions page.* I just uninstalled ALL my extensions trying to troubleshoot this and now I can't get them back.
I know there are at least two other issues like this but they're both unanswered and I honestly can't follow how some people claim to have been able to fix it.
Please help! I won't have any choice but to switch to Chrome if I don't get this fixed.
    Thanks,
    Carlos

    Hi,
Open a Fiinder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the Library folder then the Safari folder then the Extensions folder.
If any of the extensions you have installed are in that folder, move them to the Desktop.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari and try the gallery.
If that didn't help, go back to the Extension folder and move the Extensions.plist file to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safaari, try agian.

  • I have a lock on my address bar when I open the Safari Extensions gallery. What's up with that?

I was installing extension from the gallery when it stopped working.  Now there is a Apple Inc. and lock in the address bar.  Does anyone know why and what I can do about it?

    Hi
    ~/Library/Safari/Extensions
Quit safari and drag out the extension that you recently downloaded. Open safari and if the problem is gone you know what the problem is.

    Hello Wontsey & Welcome
On 6-4-06 I installed Norton Internet Security 3.0.1 for Mac. I thought maybe my problem was related to the firewall part so I unistalled it and turned the Apple firewall that came with the computer back on.
This did not help. In fact, when I try to open “Help” from the desktop menu the program opens and then immediately closes so I can’t access it.
I hate to have to tell you this Norton is the problem, looking into uninstalling it, the uninstallers that came with it are not effective so no matter you do not have the CD/DVD go to their site to get the Uninstaller
UseCocktail or OnyXto find the invisable files. Just follow Macjacks directive.
This is covered in this Topic thread, abandoning Norton Internet Security see the files Macjack speaks of in the topic thread. If you have questions post in the same forum a new topic this thread is archive, click on the link and then click"back to topic list". This is why i first came to Apple discussions, to get help with the mess Norton can make on Panther and found help as you will. It is not a Safari issue per say, rather a Norton problem.
    Best of luck.

  • Help? My itunes sync to iphone4 cancels at the safari safe phase

    Hey -
Iphone 4 w ios5, on itunes 10.5.3, out of nowhere, my itunes sync to my iphone4 cancels at the safari safe phase? I can't sync or add anything  -
Any ideas? I can't find much on this -
    THanks!

It should work, I would do a restore on it and if that doesn't work then you will have to get a new one. It should work, all iPod touches are the same exept for colors and storage sizes. Doesn't matter where it was bought it should still work. If the ipod doesn't show up in iTunes, put it in DFU mode. You can google how to do that, and then restore it through DFU mode. If a DFU restore doesn't work, then the iPod has some hardware issues and will need to be returned.

  • How can I report or make a complaitn about the Safari Extension zoominto?

I installed the Safari extension zoominto and the very first time I used it it presented pornographic women at the bottom of the extension.  Is there somebody I can complain to or make a report?
This is the website for the company:          http://www.zoominto.com
    Thanks

For anyone finding this thread, there are some quasi-malware Safari extensions in circulation. Do some research before installing any extension, and read the license agreement very carefully. If you don't understand it, don't install.

Hello, I've updated the iPhone I have got I have a problem I hope you respond to some of the applications no longer work, such as the safari and skype and many applications are no longer working with the ios7.0.4

    Standard troubleshooting...
    1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider.  Slide to power off.  Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
    2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    3. Remove apps from Recently Used (multi-tasking) list...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Swipe up on the app preview card to remove it from the list
    - Press the home button when done.
    4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
    5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
    6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

  • Update to IOS 6 has been a nightmare. Facebook would allow me to save pictures unless I granted access to my foto album. Does this mean my pictures are going be planted all over the web? The safari keeps crashing and loading is slow.

update to IOS 6 has been a nightmare. Facebook would allow me to save pictures unless I granted access to my foto album. Does this mean my pictures are going be planted all over the web? The safari keeps crashing and loading is slow. Most infuriating is that YouTube was deleted from my entertainment apps and I now have to pay for it if I want it back!! This is a bloody disgrace.

    Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
