Are faces in one library available in others ?

1. Are faces assinged in one library available for reference sake in other ,if not is there a way to 'share' ?
2. Is there a way to password protect some of the photos in the aperture library ? I am aware I can protect the entire library by just putting it on an encrypted disk.
3. Is there a way to assign faces manually to videos ?
4. Are faces stored in metadeta of photos as well ?

No, No, No and No.
In more detail: Faces are discreet to the Library that contains them. You may be able to move them by merging a project into a new Library. I haven't tried this, you might experiment
No. 2 is just a straight no. Not much else to say.
No. 3 is ditto. Faces are not available for Movies.
No. 4 There is no standard for Faces metadata. But you can use faces as basis for keyword tagging.

  • Making iphoto library available to other macs and pc's.

    In an earlier question I asked if there was a way to make the iphoto library one one computer available to other macs and pc's, and be able to upload pics to the main library and have the other computers see the new pics automatically. I was told that this wasn't a good idea given my current configuration (network raid box). So I'd like to ask, If I wanted to do this kind of sharing, where each computer accesses a single "main" library and updates itself as new pics are imported into that library, how can I go about doing this? Do I need Aperture on each computer, with a mac pro holding the main library? Any suggestions, along with any clues on the different types of "managing" would really help. I'd just like to add pics to my main library and have my other family members see them and use them on their own macs, with the fewest amount of steps.

    If you want each user to be able to add to, delete, edit and generally use the library the same as everyone else the your best bet is to put the library on an external HD connected to a Mac and give the other Macs access to that external HD. However, only one user could access the library at a time. As for the PCs, get them a Mac.

    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

    Not easy unless you're just content with adding some files to the other as new files but lose playlists for those files, and playcount, and ratings, etc.  If you're okay with that, you can drag the media folder from one library to the other. If you use default settings and want to duplicate the media, just drag it. If you want to add the media but leave it where it is currently located, hold down the option key while dragging to the library window.

    If the content was not originally purchased/synced to the device from your computer it will erase and replace the content from the device with that of the computer. If you have content that you want to backup you can transfer purchases http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848 check this link out

  • Home Share - 2 computers, can see one library but not other?

    So home sharing is on on both computers, I can see the other computers library under "shared" in iTunes. However, the other computer cannot see my library.
    I have tried all the firewall things, turning home sharing off and on, closing computers down and restarting.
    Both are using latest version of iTunes.
    The only difference between the two is my one is also synched with my iPhone/iCloud
    any suggestions please?

  • HT5043 Are photos in iphoto library saved in other places on my hard drive?

    My iphoto library is 250 gb and I have photos that show up my documents folder and in other folders.  I have a 500gb hard drive that is full, I am tring to free up space on and I can't seem to make any progress.

    By default when you import photos ot the iPhoto library they are copied and you can delete the soruce photos (be sure the iPhoto preferenced to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library has not been unchecked)
    And be sure to aways have a good backup - without one you will lose your photos sooner or later
    Probably the solution is to get a larger hard drive or an external hard drive and run your iPhoto library on it

  • TS1468 If all tracks on an album are written by one artist, but have other supporting artists, can I group them all as one album under the original artist without having to group them as a compilation and being called "Various Artists"?

    I'm pretty sure I've tried all the suggestions I've found, but I can't seem to find a satisfactory option.
    I'll use a CD I just bought as an example.  I just bought "The Best of Sergio Mendes", all songs are written by Sergio Mendes, but some include Brasil '66.  iTunes thinks this album is a compilation, but I really just want to group it all as Sergio Mendes rather than Various Artists, but I still want to have the information about which songs include Brasil '66.  For some reason the tab "Sorting" does absolutely nothing, but it seems like the idea behind it would be really useful if it actually worked...  Is there a way of doing this or will I have to settle with a more confusing or less informative option?  I feel like this must be possible, or else it's a pretty big flaw for me as I have a fair few albums this would apply to.

    Indeed, generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
    Don't try to use sort fields to merge different things together as it quickly goes wrong. These should be used consistently to make all things with one value sort as if they had a different one, e.g. Bowie, David to make David Bowie sort under B.

  • No messages are dowloading for one account, but two others are working. Server settings are fine, messages are dowloading on another computer OK, but not mine.

    My thunderbird has stopped downloading messages in one of my accounts, the other two accounts, from different providers, are working fine.
    We have two PC's downloading messages from the same account, and it has worked fine like this for years. The other PC is still receiving the messages. I've checked my webmail, and can log in fine there, the settings in my account have not been changed in Thunderbird, and are the same as the other PC.
    I looked in the error console in Thunderbird, this is what message I get :

    Error: An error occurred during a connection to pop3.vianet.ca:110.
    Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s).
    (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)

  • Why are Saved 3D cameras not available in other 3D spaces?

    I have created a 3D camera setting and saved it as a custom "View". When I open a different 3D object my saved camera view is not available, why?

    It won't work on bitmapped graphics like Photoshop documents.  You need vector graphics like Illustrator documents.  And just putting the psd into Illustrator won't work: you need real vectors.
    Now, you could engage in a bit of trickery by using the photoshop document for the face, and the edge of the graphic (filled in) built in Illustrator for the extrusion.
    Expect very long render times.  Ray tracing is a bear, and that's no joke.

  • ONE Library quits unexpectedly, others okay-why

    I divided my 10 thousand photos up into 10 libraries.
    Recently, one of my libraries will open, but will quit unexpectedly (every time) immediately after trying to look at any of the pictures.
    I have: 1) repaired permissions 2) Deleted plist file 3) restarted computer 4) copied back the backup Library6 file (I didn't overwrite it, I deleted old, and pasted the new one in). - no help.
    I created a new library- (same user) and all works fine. Other libraries seem to be unaffected, but I am nervous to test them too much!
    Also, I was able to open the broken library from external, and thankfully, that backup is good.
    I'm down to about 10GB left on my 80GB hard drive. Any ideas?
    Do you think my internal hard drive is nearing the end of its life- How long do they last?

    The fact that this issue is particular to one album only, suggests that the issue is in that Library and not with something like your HD, because if the HD was problematic it would affect everything.
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use it's rebuild command to see if that can recreate your library in a more stable way. Note that not everything will be recovered - but your albums and keywords will be. Read the help on the app to be sure you're happy.

  • [Help] Export or copy a virtual copy from one library to a different library?

    Hi all,
    I need to be able to extract or export a virtual copy (VC) from one library to an other library. The same image that the VC depend on is represented in both libraries but since a friend will be editing some images on his computer and therefor his library I need to be able to import the different VC he makes to my library later on or perhaps merge since he needs the VC I make.
    So please, can someone tell me how to do this. If we only make some editing of a RAW we just save the metadata and we are done, but with VC it is different.

    Use File > Export as Catalog in the current catalogue, and use File > Import from Catalog
    Ask yourself if it's really a smart idea to (a) work with multiple catalogues, and (b) catalogue the same picture in more than one catalogue. As you've found, working with multiple catalogues introduces inefficiencies like trying to copy VCs around, while cataloguing the same image in more than one catalogue is a recipe for confusion.Maybe you should be asking how to resolve the underlying workflow problem?

    Open old library.
    Drag files from iTunes window to a folder on desktop then delete from iTunes.
    Open the new library.
    File > Add file/folder to library and select file/folders you want to move.
    May I ask why you are creating a new library?
