Are iChat services down?

O.k. Begining this morning (I got up at appx 0938MDT), iChat (Version 6.0.1 (935)) running on my desktop Mac (Mac Pro early 2009 w/OS 10.7.2) seems to be having serious connectivity issues.
I am connected to the internet. Intranet (wireless and ethernet) working fine, all devices connecting. No problems with email, web surfing, sftp...
I cannot establish or maintain connections to the following types of accounts in iChat: AIM or MobileMe chat (through server 'api.oscar.aol.com'), Jabber accounts (servers chatmask.com, jabber.com). Notably, Jabber services with server jabber.org is working.
No problems with Bonjour or Facebook (server chat.facebook.com)
I've tried cycling iChat. killing imagent process. Removing com.apple.iChat.plist, all the com.apple.iChat.* preference files (including all the lockfiles and preferences for specific chat services). I tried removing the passwords and manually entering them when prompted.
I don't think it's an iChat problem, seems to be some sort of gateway messaging service issue. Only certain chat services are affected.
Status changes to 'Disconnected' and double clicking the error icon reveals the following error messages (for AIM/MobileMe and Jabber accounts)...
iChat can’t communicate with the Mac.com account “[email protected]”. An undefined AIM session error has occurred.
iChat can’t communicate with the Jabber account “[email protected]”. iChat can’t communicate with the Jabber account “[email protected]”.
There are no noted outages on the MobileMe webpage.
Is anyone else experiencing this chat problem? I'll update after additional troubleshooting procedures and some checking with other Macs on my network.

O.k. I'm back. After a restart, I noticed that most of my iChat services were in a 'offline' status, despite the fact that iChat said online. Switched iChat to available, all services checked, all but two changed from 'Connecting' to 'Disconnected' with same errors noted.
After checking individual accounts, it seemed odd that some services connected, while others did not.
I checked my firewall (Hands Off!)... Why hadn't I thought of that earlier?
Somehow three of my servers were marked as 'Deny' outgoing connections using https (port 443). That's the port that many chat services use. I switched the rules to read 'Allow' outgoing connections. I went back to iChat, selected 'Available' and now all is well. All my iChat services are working again (still can't get two of the Jabber clients to work, but I've always had problems there, and it seems as if only one will work at a time...)
So, problem solved. The issue was my firewall had somehow disabled outgoing connections for some port 443 services. I don't know how it happened, but it's working now.

    Hi, I have had Verizon now for almost 2 years, and have been in this same residence for the whole period of time. This morning, I noticed my phone, as well as my wife's phone (we both have iPhone 4 32gb phones), kept dropping out of 3G and going to Extended, and sometimes nothing at all. Cannot make any phone calls, whatsoever. Texts go through really hit and miss.

    We have ORacle Ebiz 12.0.6 with 10.2.0.4 database.
    Can some one please provide details how to end notification email for Concurrent services down using OAM in R12 with workflow.
    I have done the setup in clone with workflow up and running... and have also setup the alerts for example say:
    Service manager ---Down,Up in OAM through sysadmin user but when i bring down the Service manager form
    Concurrent manager administer form ...No email notifications are fired.
    Please share knowledge on this issue...

  • IChat Service Cannot Start after 10.6.6 Updates

    Hi,
    My Mac Mini Server was working perfectly until I updated 10.6.6. All services are running except the iChat service. There is a series of error message in the log.
    Any help? I have been searching everywhere but cannot find any solutions.

    I have a look at the topic "cannot log into iChat" post but this is not related to mine. My problem is very similar to some of the topics posted like "iChat server issues".
    I have actually reinstall the whole server again. Checked all the services are running well (including the iChat service). Then, I run the Software Updates and the system updated with 10.6.6. Then, I restarted the server and the iChat service stopped now. The rest of the services are still running ok.
    I suspect the 10.6.6 update has changed something and cause the service to stop.

    My friend uses a HP Pavilion ZV5000.
    For some reason, my iChat shuts down when it's connecting.

    And Tony explained about the AIM 5.9 issue.
    I was merely offering another option that she may not know about, since the AIM->iChat is flaky at best.

  • DAG - Copy Status - Service Down

    Odd problem on a soon to be production 2010 DAG environment.
    3 node DAG, 2 in primary site on same subnet, 1 in DR site. No dedicated replication network as yet.
    When looking at database copy status in EMC I see copy status as Mounted or Healthy for the node I am on but both other nodes are listed as Service Down. It can also take a LONG time for the status to be displayed.
    If I run Test-ReplicationHealth for the local node it checks out perfectly.
    If I run it with Test-ReplicationHealth -Identity OtherNode I get the following:-

    If I suspend the copy then resume it will usually re-appear but will then fail again later on. Although half the time it will fail to suspend the copy since it says it can't contact the remote node.
    Makes me somewhat unconfident about auto-failover.
    There have been no changes to the AD environment but we have just installed a similar set of Exchange servers in a completely different site over a slow WAN link.
    Anybody got any thoughts?

    I'm having the same issue on my 2 nodes DAG, every database copy status is shown OK (mounted or healthy) in the EMC of the server that holds that copy but the copy on the other server is shown as service down and vice versa.
    IPV6 was disabled on the MAPI network, then I disabled it on the Replication network, and even the replication interface DNS registration is not checked, I found DNS IPV6 A records for the 2 nodes. When I remove the IPV6 A record, the problem disappear,
    but soon the records are recreated again in DNS and the problem reappears.
    Any idea?

  • "3x Crash Service Down"...  ?

    Hi all,
    I am compressing with my favorite group of presets, and am suddenly getting a strange error. Three of the presets suddenly fail the compression and I get an error in the batch monitor that says (in red) "3x crash service down".
    I have no idea what that means, and have no idea why my group of presets is suddenly and inexplicably giving me fits.
    NOTE: Between this compression cycle and the previous, I have installed 10.5.6 combo, and all other updates.
    Any thoughts?

    Which formats are you importing and which formats are you compressing to?
    Have you tried Compressor Repair?

  • Compressor Crash Log for 3x crash service down

    I keep getting 3x crash service down when compressor fails. My previous work around was to reinstall everything and go back to Final Cut Studio 5.1 (Compressor 2.1, Qmaster 2.1). Well, I'm at a point where I want to get this worked out. Here is the compressor crash log - it looks like it crashes in Thread 4. I hope someone can tell me what this is and how to resolve it.     No..this is not the crash log from when Logic Pro crashes..
    What we are looking for is.. when Logic crashes you will see a dialog box saying Logic as crashed and would you like to send a report to Apple.. press that and then copy and paste the log here...

    However, what you posted is actually full of issues such as corrupted data with your Mail program... and various other errors going on with file operations. Have you repaired your permissions recently and checked the disk for errors via the disk utility? If not I highly recommend you do so....

    Hoping to get some help on this issue...
    When attempting an encode in the latest version of compressor 4.0.5 alongside our Matrox MXO2 LE MAX hardware compressor. (using the Matrox MAX compressor presets) we encounter the following error "3X crash service down" I should note that this issue is only happening in Compressor 4 AND when using the Matrox presets.
    When using the custom Apple presets or using Compressor 3, there are no issues, so we know the hardware is working)
    The Matrox MXO2 LE MAX hardware is all up to date (firmware 35.2, software 2.5.0.0035)
    After much googling and forum searching here are the troubleshooting steps we've tried;
    -updated to latest software/firmware for our Matrox encoder
    -unistalled flip4mac
    -reset "background processing" in compressor
    disabled "display job thumbnails" in compressor prefs
    Any ideas or suggesstions from people who have run into the same issue would be much appreciated.

    I sent a couple MMS messages last night, and my Moto G said it would send the message when the service was available. This morning they are still listed as "Sending" is the MMS service down or is there something I can do to fix this. Thanks.

    Do you have your cellular data connection turned on and active? MMS will only send over the cellular network.

    Hi,
    Recently installed a new server into the tree and implemented NMAS for the
    first time for the purposes of universal password access for CIFS to this
    new server.
    I now notice that our BM 3.8 (pre-existing) server is outputing this error
    on console:
    "NMAS launch failed, proxy authentication services down"
    Not sure why this is occuring. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

    Server software updated, and server restarted. ichat service is unavailable to clients...
    When an individual client opens ichat, they are marked as OFFLINE. When they attempt to change their status to AVAILABLE, a new screen appears in which they are advised that they can't log into the Server because LOGIN ID or PASSWORD is incorrect...
    Within this screen, A LOGIN ID BOX is already populated (accurately) and when they enter their usual Mac password, they enter a loop of this screen returning to the foreground each time they enter their password...
    Keychain Access indicates/confirms that they ARE using the correct username and password...
    any solution, please

    If you are running iChat server on a Snow Leopard Server I am not sure if there is a Mavericks server.
    However your username which is actually a Jabber ID can be used in Messages.
    Add it under the Other option.
