Are MacBook Pro cooling fans on at start?
My mid-2009 MBP has a noisy fan -- the one closest to the middle. It is easily fixable but something else concerns me: When I start the Mac, at least the noisy center fan starts up right away (I don't know if the fan on the left starts). I thought the fans were not to start until the internal temperature reached a certain point. Is there another problem?
The fan(s) will always be running at startup. I believe the minimum speed on newer models is 2000RPM.

A1212 Macbook Pro Cooling Fan Speed / SMC / Service Battery
Background:
I've owned my A1212 Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo since launch (Thanksgiving 2006 I believe). For some time now the temperature has been quite warm - more recently my right cooling fan has intermittently sounded like a jet engine and failed to speed beyond 1,500-2,000 rpm intermittently.
1. I ordered the correct cooling fan for A1212 right and replaced.
2. When I rebooted Macbook Pro here is what I see for temps in hardware monitor
AMBIENT TEMP 31C/88F
CPU A 44C 111F
CPU CORE 1:36C/97F
CPU CORE 2:39C/100F
"SMART DISK" — [DOES THIS MEAN THERE IS A SENSOR THAT IS NOT REGISTERING]
The hottest temp recorded is 109F/ CPU A temperature diode
The new cooling fan is majorly cooling the mac much better than prior fan.
3. I can't find ANY way to stop the mac from running both cooling fans at 6,000rpm
a) reset SMC (tried holding down power button 20 seconds after disconnecting battery
b) reboot
c) remove smcfancontrol
d) use smcfancontrol
e) monitor with temp monitor, hardware monitor, istat pro
f) no runaway processes - not even hot
4) I notice ( this was also showing up before install of new fan) in my battery icon it indicates "Service Battery" - while I do have a 4 yr old computer there was a recall on batteries so this battery is maybe 3 yrs old and I usually use computer plugged in.
I do not have my snow leopard boot dvd readily available to run hardware test on sensors, however techtool pro does not report any issues. I have not found any terminal commands to force the fan speed down nor any indication I have any apps that are accelerating it.
It appears that my fan speeds are accelerating shortly after power up - before OS X is even loaded completely - and never slow to normal speed except when mac is asleep.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONNECT THE FAN INVERTED (THE TWO PINS) MESSING UP ABILITY TO CONTROL FAN SPEED?
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I INADVERTENTLY BROKE SOME SENSOR "SMART"?
I am thinking more and more that this is hardware related like a sensor. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, while I don't have a Jet engine I have a very noisy macHi N,
SMART reports on a number of checks on the HD. I don't believe that's any part of the current issue.
I agree with you that my first inclination is toward a sensor issue; by default, if the sensor's are not reporting properly, the fans run full speed/6000RMP. -
Macbook Pro (Cooling Fan?) Noise - Now Louder!
A few weeks ago my macbook pro started making a noticeably louder noise (I suspect the fan). Now it has started to get louder over the course of a minute until it sounds like it gives up and the macbook goes silent! Can someone advise me on what to do?!
You may perform a SMC reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If that does not solve the problem, run an Apple Hardware test to see if that will give any clues:

(You mat have to use OPTION D to start it)

Macbook pro cooling fan runs continuously after software update
I updated Mountain Lion last night (Mar 15, 2013). I forgot the version number, but it was 10.8.? I think.
After restarting the computer this morning, the cooling fan suddenly shot up, making crazy noise. It didn't come back, so I had to turn the computer off with physical switch. While the fan was running, battery was draining so fast. I began with 100%, but went to 65% in 45 minutes. Such thing never happened before. I did not run the computer with complicated Apps when it happened. I was using Safari and Logos Bible software. Does it have anything to do with the new software?
It is quiet right now, after restarting. I paid more than $2k for this computer last fall. Didn't have any problems yet. But it happened all of a sudden. Anyone has any idea??Next time this should happen try a SMC reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If no success, look at Activity Monitor to see if you have a 'runaway process' and terminate it if not required by the OS or perform a restart.

How does the MacBook Pro cooling fan work?
Is slotted area on the back of the MBP an intake or exhaust area?
I am buying a notebook cooler and I want to make sure I buy a compatible cooler; that is to say one that doesn't blow hot air into the intake or take in the hot air form the exhaust and blow that across the base of the computer.
ThanksThey blow out the back of the laptop. So I don't think the external fans blowing upwards will blow air back into the MBP. Of course this is just a guess since I do not have one to try but I don't think it will defeat the internal fans. In
my own opinion I don't think the external fans are really neccessery unless you are running your CPU at 100% or more for hours at a time. -
MacBook Pro's fans start running at high speed when the computer is asleep. Normal?
The other night, my MacBook Pro's fans started running at high speed when the computer was asleep. Loud enough to wake me up. And this just kept on going until I finally decided to turn the computer off. Is this normal? Is this anything to worry about?
This is not normal. See if a SMC reset solves the problem:

my macbook pro 2006 fan goes high and then makes a fast beep and shuts down it been happening since i updated it should i update to lion?
No, this problem should be solved.
The MBP shuts down when too hot, to protect itself. First see if it is a process running astray: start Activity Monitor (in Applications/Utilities) choose <all processes> and click the %CPU column: are there processes that are using more than 50% cpu power? If yes click it and quit it, and tell us which one. -
MacBook Pro A1126 fans goes 'crazy'
My MacBook Pro A1126 fan makes a lot of noise when I use it for intense gaming for hours,
My Mac specs
OS - Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 & Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit ( Boot Camp )
Processor - 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory - 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM ( Originally 2 GB, upgraded to 4 GB )
Graphics - NVIDIA GeFore 8600M GT 128 MB
How do I stop the fan noise or at least reduce the noise,by the way it's from the left fan & there are two fans in the MacBook Pro...
Thanks in advance!Games use a lot of CPU/GPU resources and that creates a lot of heat The fans are supposed to spin faster in order to dissipate that heat. It sounds that what you are experiencing is normal.
If one fan is significantly louder than the other, Courcoul's advice should be taken.
Since you have a 6 year old MBP, it may be a good idea to open it up and see if there is dust, dirt and debris inside that should be cleaned out. That could have a very positive affect in the cooling process.

I upgraded to mountain lion a week ago and now on startup of my macbook pro, microsoft excel and word start up automatically and then crash? very strange can anyone please help? I have checked the login items under users and groups and there is nothing.
Are you using the Office for Mac 2011 version, as you need to do? The Office for Mac 2004 is Not at all compatible with Mountain Lion, and the 2008 version has been noted to have some problems running with ML.
Hope this helps -
Is it normal to hear my Macbook Pro's fan?
i have a early 2011 MBP , and never really heard the fan until about this past week. Im not very technical but i installed iStat Pro . my CPU is about 41 , the fans are about 1998 rpms, and they stay around that area. Also i dont run a lot of intensive things at once only mail and firefox most of the time.
Likely because I have so many peripherals hanging off my MacBook Pro, my fans usually run at around 4000rpms, but I don't actually 'hear' them until (like now) they rev up to 5500-6000rpms. When I'm not using my MBP as a 'desk' model, my fans will usually run in the 2000-2200rpm range and I defintely can't hear them then.
Your fan speeds are normal but you shouldn't be able to actually hear hem - you may have some dust and debris clogging the fans. There are various methods to clean the fans and exhausts that can be found by Googling.

Try resetting the System Management Control to see if the fan noise ceases. Also, make sure there are no obstructions to the fan as well as the portable is on a flat surface when in use.

Macbook Pro about 2012 won't start with out power lead in and runs very very slow Maverick OS
Macbook Pro about 2012 won't start with out power lead in and runs very very slow Maverick OS?
Take each of these steps as needed, and check to make sure it hasn't been fixed with a reboot afterwards before trying the next step.
Backup your data if you haven't already:
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
If you use Airplay, see https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6831
If you don't use Airplay, be sure to upgrade to 10.9.2, using this update:

Make sure your hard drive is not over 85% full.
Make sure Spotlight is not indexing.
Make sure Time Machine is not running when you do other tasks.
Check to make sure you have not accidently/purposefully installed MacKeeper, as it will slow down your Mac:
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3036
Remove any other system cache cleaning applications.
Reset the SMC:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

Macbook Pro 10.6.8 - 4GB started running extremely slowly.
All of a sudden my Macbook Pro 10.6.8 - 4GB started running extremely slowly. I verified the disk and got an OK. I have plenty of memory. Any clue?
I do need to learn how to use the communities...sorry. First time.
I do have lots of free disk space though.
The problem seems to be solved, after a whole day searching for help on the net.
I read somewhere to check my Console.app for repeated information. Then I saw my Mackeeper antivirus was sending the same message every 5 seconds for the last 15 hours. Thousands and thousands of the same message. I turned off the Real-time Protection, restarted the computer and all is fine. Just can't believe it.
Where I live it is kind of hard to get assistance.
Tks for your help. -
