Are Macs and iPhone infected by FinSpy?

Refering to the report here - http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/Malaysia-uses-spyware-agains t-own-citizens-NYT-reports/ and various others on the Internet.
I want to know if the Macs and iPhone infected with this creapy disease? If yes, what does Apple intend to do about this? How can I scan and remove this piece of crap from intruding my privacy.
Thanks

Are Mac's and iPhones infected by FinSpy?
The truth is they can be.
A security flaw in Apple's iTunes allowed unauthorized third parties to use iTunes online update procedures to install unauthorized programs.[6][7] Gamma International offered presentations to government security officials at security software trade shows where they described to security officials how to covertly install the FinFisher spy software on suspect's computers using iTunes' update procedures.
The security flaw in iTunes that FinFisher is reported to have exploited was first described in 2008 by security software commentator Brian Krebs.[6][7][14] Apple did not patch the security flaw for more than three years, until November 2011. Apple officials have not offered an explanation as to why the flaw took so long to patch.

The head of Apple product security is a ex-top-NSA guy so it stands to reason to assume they and  Microsoft (likely Ubuntu Linux now too), always allow backdoors into all computers and phones for the sake of national security and law enforcement purposes.
With FinSpy it was widely abused by many governments and discovered,  the fact is they ALWAYS have had a way to get inside our machines because we have to trust the maker of our operating systems and hardware,, they in turn have to obey the wishes of the government who holds power over them.
Governments are extremely paranoid because human population is getting out of hand and terrorists are unseen enemies so they will always try to have some sort of secret card up their sleeve, which the bad guys like hackers often find out about and invade people's machines with.
So there is this little game that has been going on for decades, the operating system and hardware makers leave a backdoor, the bad guys find it and spread malware, the good guys tell the world of the problem, they close the hole and clean up infected machines and then leave another backdoor to start the cycle all over again.
What can you do when you can't win?
Don't use their rigged machines or don't have anything on them or do anything with them that they will bother about.
Use a brand new machine, out of the box inside a Faraday Cage room and never connect it to the Internet or trade files, have a instant way of physically destroying all data at a moments notice, even if your on the toilet or taking a shower, that's long enough for them to break in and stop you.
Encryption is only going to make them mad and bust your will somehow in order to give up the password.
Getting software is a problem because now a lot of it is being downloaded online instead of coming on disks and requires copy protection to be updated online.
It's still possible to have a machine 100% secure and offline, but you will have to cut off a lot of features to do it.

    Hi, MPiaM.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would need clarification on if you are experiencing an issue with syncing photos via iTunes or iCloud to provide a better answer.  However, here are a couple troubleshooting articles that cover both scenarios.

  • ICloud doesn't sync between mac and iPhone...

Hello all. I have an iphone 4 and I macbook pro which I have just upgraded the OS to OSX Mountain lion.
I have never really made use of icloud before, but intend to start using it as I intend to get an ipad soon.
I have gone into icloud on both my mac and iphone and ticked on everything for icloud. However, nothing seems to really sync. My notes don't go between devices. As far as I can tell neither do my photos.
The only large file on my icloud seems to be backups. However, the only thing in this folder seems to be the back up folder...which only seems to contain infinitiy blade data.
Any help as to where I'm going wrong?
    regards,
    Matt

I don't want to trust the iCloud, so I want to sync my PERSONAL Notes on my iPhone (4) just with my iMAC (via iTunes), and not saved in iCloud.
Yes iCloud is great for syncing/saving common data, but I want to choose what I sync and if I choose not to save in icloud than I want to have the possibility to save it elsewhere.
Now with Mountain Lion it is not possible anymore to sync between my iPhone and iMac
More and more companies are going to say/dictate "This and this is good for you!"
Please Apple, take your Customers serious and let themselve choose what good for them is!
    Thanks in advance!!
    P.S.,
if there Apple-Customers who have a solution for syncing Notes between MountainLion and iOS please reply! (Thanks)

  • WPA Enterprise Problem Windows 7;  Macs and iPhones working good

    Dear Apple Discussions,
I have a strange problem within my corpoarte network. I have successfully setup airport base stations with wpa/wpa2 enterprise authentication against an open directory master on apple snow leopard server. Macs and iPhones can connect through this very easily and without problems. Windows Machines seem to have some trouble with this. I have a self signed certificate and a trusted certificate for the server, both are resulting in the same issues. The Windows clients cannot connect. There is no error message on the windows boxes. Here is a snippet from the logfile on the OSX Server radius.log:
    Thu Aug 19 12:49:45 2010 : Error: TLS Alert read:fatal:unknown CA
    Thu Aug 19 12:49:45 2010 : Error: TLS_accept:failed in SSLv3 read client certificate A
    Thu Aug 19 12:49:45 2010 : Error: rlm_eap: SSL error error:14094418:SSL routines:SSL3READBYTES:tlsv1 alert unknown ca
Thu Aug 19 12:49:45 2010 : Error: SSL: SSL_read failed inside of TLS (-1), TLS session fails.
This happens everytime and I did not find any possible solution within google search. Do you have any idea?
    Thank you for any help!!
    Nico

    Nico,
I have run into this problem as well. One additional piece is that in addition to Macs and iPhones, we also have Android phones connecting with no problem.
The only solution we came up with was to force the windows machine, in this case Vista, to use only our network and eliminate all others. Of course for our windows user that was a problem when he went home because he could not connect to his own home network any longer.
Unfortunately, that resulted in giving up on the issue for us and forcing the windows guy to plug in via ethernet.

  • I want to create an eBook for iPad , Mac and "iPhone".

While I was beginning with creating an eBook with iBookAuthor, I didn't know that the target group iPhone user is missed.
I want to create and publish an eBook, which is intended for iPad, Mac and iPhone users.
Does somebody know, which software would be the best?

Of course iTunes Producer is supposed to accept .epub files.  If yours are not working, I suggest you try to contact Apple via the means indicated at the bottom of the FAQ

  • Mac and iPhone don't see each other

This isn't just with Home Sharing, but with other apps that use wifi to connect, specifically iAccounts and iBackup, but I couldn't find a more appropriate community.
My iPhone and MacBook Pro are connected to the same wifi network, one has 192.168.1.64, the other is 192.168.1.65, both can connect to the internet with no problems, both have full signal strength.  So why can't they see each other?  Sometimes it works, when everything is turned off then back on again, but sometimes that doesn't work.  Last time it worked only after I reset my router, which suggests maybe the router is the problem.  It's a BT HomeHub 3, which probably doesn't mean much to most of you, so give me general advice.  What settings should I look at?  Could it have something to do with my Mac connecting via 802.11 N and my iPhone 802.11 G?  It's a 3GS, so it can't do N.
Both Mac and iPhone have the latest OS (10.6.8 and 4.3.3).

I stumbled upon the answer by searching other (non-apple support) sites for this problem.  Apparently (and non-intuitively), "personal hotspot" (aka internet tethering) must first be enabled before attempting to establish a BT link.  The reason I say non-intuitive is:
Firstly, bluetooth is supposed to be a stand-alone wireless networking protocol that doesn't require another wireless network to be available for it to work.  What other sort of device (computer or otherwise) requires an existing network to be in place before BT will work?
Secondly, if tethering via personal hotspot is a prerequisite for a BT link, why is there no pop-up message advising of this when BT is turned on?  Something like "Hey idiot, you need to turn on personal hotspot before you can establish a bluetooth link!"  Or better yet, why not automatically turn on the hotspot when the BT button is switched on?
Thirdly, it really makes the BT shortcut button (in the home screen control center) worthless if you've still got to manually drill down into the settings menu to turn on hotspot anyway.
I scrubbed all apple user support articles related to using BT and pairing the iPhone with iPad that I could find to make sure I hadn't missed this new requirement somewhere - and I don't see it mentioned anywhere (although I'll admit that steam was coming out of my ears while I read it, so I may not have been in the best frame of mind to catch any new information).  In the BT troubleshooting article, it mentions every check-this and check-that step but nowhere does it say make sure that personal hotspot is also turned on! I submitted feedback at the bottom of the article; hopefully they'll update it.
Thanks, Lyssa for bearing with me through all of this, which in the end turned out to be a user error.  Although I consign myself to some comfort in knowing that this is not how it worked prior to iOS8.  And as soon as I can find a phone on iOS7 or older, I'll confirm that.

  • HT3529 Syncing iMessage on mac and iphone

When I went to update my phone to IOS 8 an error occurred and I had to restore my phone. Luckily my mac still has all my messages on it. How can I sync my mac and iPhone so my message are all up to date?

    Hey jennnnay,
Thanks for the question. Did you happen to backup your device before updating to iOS 8? If so, your messages should have been backed up and restoring from that backup should bring them back:

  • I cannot sign in to my icloud account, nor itunes and neither can download any app, both from my Mac and iphone

I cannot sign in to my icloud account, nor itunes and neither can download any app, both from my Mac and iphone. I cannot even sign in to my icloud account. Someone help me out plzzz

It means you are already signed into the ID as a secondary account on your Mac.  Go to System Preferences>Internet Accounts.  If you see this iCloud listed on the left sidebar, click on it and confirm that it shows your iCloud ID.  If so, click the "-" sign below the account list to delete it.  Then you should be able to go to System Preferences>iCloud and sign in with the ID as your primary iCloud account without getting this error.

  • Receiving charter email to mac and iphone

We have Charter email, a verizon iphones, and mac os x. We can not receive emails to our mac and iphones at the same time. According to Charter, there is no way to receive emails to our mac unless our iphone mail server is turned OFF. Is this true? Help.

I have the same issues, but wish to clarify a few of the suggestions. Basically, I have an iPhone 4 (Verizon), and a Charter e-mail account. Right now I have configured my Charter account (IMAP) to send/receive on the iPhone. However, now I can't use Outlook on my PC to send/receive e-mail from the Charter account. It gives an error indicating that another device (the iPhone) is already connected to the mail server. I would be OK with this as the e-mail on the iPhone works great, however, I like to download and store my mail locally on my PC. Now I can't do this. The only way around this is to remove the Charter account from the iPhone, dump the messages down from the server to my PC through Outlook. However, that also removes all my mail from the iPhone.
I'm down with forwarding my Charter e-mail to a G-mail account, and setting up G-mail on the iPhone. However, my concerns are:
    1) Would e-mail I send from the iPhone now show my G-mail address versus my Charter address? I don't want this to happen, too much confusion.
    2) Would I need to configure my home PC/Outlook to download from the G-mail server, or keep it as the Charter server?
    Appreciate any thoughts/suggestions!
    Thanks

  • Did Mountain Lion break calendar and note sync between the Mac and iPhone?

When I was running Lion, my calendars and notes synced properly between my Mac and iPhone (with notes going into Mail.app). After upgrading to Mountain Lion, the notes on my Mac were moved into Notes.app and my calendars appeared to be unharmed. I've recently noticed that neither my calendars nor my notes are syncing between my Mac and iPhone.
I use iTunes to sync my data (either via USB or WiFi) and have no interest in moving to iCloud. I have tried the suggestion of enabling iCloud sync on my iPhone, then disabling, as well as telling iTunes to overwrite the calendar data on my iPhone. Neither of these approaches has solved my sync problem.

I found a solution to my problem. Hopefully it helps someone else too.
I deleted the following file and folder:
         ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
         ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Sync Changes/
When I synced my iPhone, I was presented with several sync conflicts to resolve. I resolved them and applied the changes immediately. Now my Mac and iPhone are in sync and I've confirmed that changes are syncing from my Mac to my iPhone (I'll confirm that it works the other direction tomorrow when I can look at my calendar at work).
This is the thread that helped me:

All my devices are signed in with my same ID account. My Mac and Iphone 5 are communicating just fine but my iPad 3 is not receving or sending its iCloud tabs. Safari is enabled in the iCloud setting on the iPad and private browsing is not enabled on any device. Whats wrong?
