Are Mail's spam training prefs transferable?

We're struggling with an increasing amount of spam.
I have trained my Mail pretty well by now and would like to transfer its
spam filtering prefs to my partner's Mac so she can take advantage of it
without messing up anything else for her.
Is there a file somewhere that only contains the spam filtering prefs?

Perhaps they read the forum on occasion to get a sense of what people want from the application, or what problems with the application. I've done what I can, apart from adopting a new mail application that offers filters I'm suggesting, or opening up the application and rewriting sections of it. What WE might do is suggest plug-ins or add-ons or mods to the application that address such issues. Perhaps we might suggest a good web host that offers robust filtering on the server-end. Many productive options might result from posting a specific suggestion.

  • Mails From Exchange 2013 are received as SPAM

    Hello,
We have Exchange 2013 configured to send and receive mails internally and externally. Everything is going great except the fact that the mails sent FROM our Exchange 2013 are received as SPAM. For example, I send an email from exchange to my gmail account
(generally to any EXTERNAL receipt). I receive the mail in the SPAM folder.
    Any ideas Please !!

    Hi,
Firstly, I’d like to recommend you find out exactly what the problem is and resolve it before bothering to delisting from the blacklist.
And based on my knowledge, there are the following reasons:
    1. Exchange Server is pumping out SPAM emails because a mailbox password was compromised:
Please figure out which mailbox user is the culprit by looking over event viewer logs and change the password. Then clear email queue and see if any new spam emails are generated, if the change of password stops the flow of SPAM email, we can remove the domain
    name from the blacklist.
    2. One of our computers are infected with a mass mailing worm virus:
We can check our firewall log
For information about removing from blacklist, you can refer to the following similar thread:

  • Mail junk spam filter

    hi,
How do you manage mail spam filtering?
I've read about junk training and all but I can't seem to find it on my mail program.
    Thank you
    Santo

    Hi
A good place to start would be here:
    http://osx.topicdesk.com/
I have no affiliation with the site. However it's fantastic resource (sincere thanks to Alex and the guys) for OSX Server's Mail Service. Amazingly the tutorials are free! Leave a donation if you are able. You could also search this forum as well as the one for 10.4 and earlier. Spam training has been mentioned many times.
It's possible to limit Spam as well as improve performance by configuring the Service using these instructions:

  • Mail in Yosemite puts incoming mails in spam, even the sender is in my contacts.

mail (Yosemite) puts incoming mails in spam, even the sender is in my contacts.

    Hello martinamm,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you have some mail that is automatically being filtered to spam, even though the contacts are in your address book. The following resource provides a few more steps you can attempt to resolve this:
Mail (Yosemite): If junk mail filters aren’t working correctly
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19190
If messages are incorrectly marked as junk
There are several ways you can prevent Mail from incorrectly marking legitimate messages as junk.
    - Tell Mail that a message is legitimate by marking it as not junk. Click Not Junk in the banner of the message; or select the message, then click the Not Junk button in the Mail toolbar.
    - Add the sender to the Contacts app. For more information, see Save addresses, events, passes, and more.
    - Review your junk mail settings in Mail preferences, as well as any rules you might have created to handle junk mail, and make changes as necessary.
    Cheers,
    Matt M.

All messages are marked as spam, 5.7.1 ? how do I fix this, I can receive messages but cant send.

Oh with the rot that goes on with emails and spam filters these days almost anything can be considered spam. Mail addresses to your self can be all that is required for it to be spam on some systems, so test using your email address to check it is working must be done with an account not hosted bu the same provider, given the web site is not blacklisted.
I checked before replying, as brand new web sites are often blacklisted because they share a server or IP address range that is blacklisted (Poor neighborhood) or the server is run from a dynamic IP address and therefore considered to be a home computer with an infection.
One thing you can try is go to the account settings on the tools menu, open the settings pane by clicking on the account name and removing any reply to address. (some spam filters get all excited about reply to addresses. If that does not work I suggest you contact hostbox for a more detailed instruction on why your mail is considered "confirmed spam".
But please let us know how you get on.

  • Is there a limit to number of conditions I can set in Mail's spam filter?

There seems to be a limit to the amount of conditions I can set in Mail's spam filter. ie there's no scroll bar down the side - the list just goes as long as my computer monitor's length will allow, and that's it.
Is that right - or is there a way to set more than about 28 conditions (in my case).

    Tim,
yes, you can add more conditions (I don't know whether this is a limit or not) using AppleScript - the problem with the approach is that you will have somewhat of a hard time editing the rule in Mail after that as the buttons at the bottom of the window will no longer be accessible...
Look at the following AppleScript as an example on how to add a new condition to a rule called "Junk Rule"
Click to open this script in your Script Editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:500px">tell application "Mail"
    tell rule "Junk Rule"
set theNewCondition to make new rule condition at end of rule conditions
    tell theNewCondition
set rule type to subject header
    set expression to "viagra"
set qualifier to does contain value
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell</pre>

  • Is there a way to block unwanted e-mails and spam on your mobile devices?

Is there a way to block unwanted e-mails and spam on your mobile devices?

This is generally handled by your e-mail provider, not your e-mail reader.
For example, I use Gmail and it filters spam before it ever gets to my inbox. If something does get through, I can move it to the spam folder on my iPhone to report it as spam.

  • IO Labels are NOT being written to prefs!

I've followed all the advice on existing threads about this and it's definitely a serious bug for me. IO Labels are not being written to prefs for me.
Any ideas? Already tried deleting prefs, creating new blank project and not saving, nothing has worked.

I found a workaround for anyone having this issue - and this is the ONLY thing that has worked after a week of trying everything on several forums.
Open Logic, set your labels how you want.
While Logic is open go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.logic.pro.plist
Quit Logic. I don't think it matters whether you save your project or not. When Logic quits a new plist will be written, and this one WILL have your labels!
Seems on my machine Logic would not update the IO labels bit of the prefs unless it was writing a complete new prefs file.

my 6500a prints very small, there are no settings in printer pref. that allow enlargement

    Hello MartyTheArtist,
May I know  you installed Basic Print Driver or Full Feature Software?
I am not holding 7110 printer but I have access officejet 6700 and Photosmart 7510.
Anyway, you should able to see the similar print options if you did install full feature software.
When you print, under the print advance options, there is an option  called. "HP Real life Technologies".  You may on this option  and it will "automatically remove redeye in photographs and to automatically adjust high-contrast photos to reveal details that are otherwise lost in shadows. I have attached the screen shot for your reference."

I am an amteur photographer and personally, I do prefer to do post processing jobs in Photoshop first and then use the printer just to print by choosing the apporopirate photopaper and using Best Mode.
May be you might have differnet preferences way of doing it. I am just sharing my way of printing photos
By the way, when you install Full Feature Software, you have the option to install HP Photo Creation Software which is very simple and easy to create greeting cards, photo books and many other things. Maybe you might give it a try if you have not tried.
Kindly let us know if you have more queries

  • Are there any reliable training providers out there?

I'm looking to take training (preferably with certification) in Configuring Advanced Windows Server 2012 Services and would like some recommendations as to credible training
organisations in the UK? Haven't got any experience with training providers so any advice would be appreciated.

    Hey Steven
Course there is, you will find out that there are good and bad training providers out there, to get the most out of training I would recommend looking at practical based courses when you are searching for courses. A credible one I would recommend to you
from past experience  is Aardvark Training and Consulting. From looking at their site they deliver the exact course that you are looking for.

    Hi All,
This being my first question, excuse me if I have selected a wrong community for this question.

I have configured my office mail, and when I send any message from this, the mail is being tagged as SPAM by my office mail server and all my mails are going into JUNK folder of receipent, when I looked at the RAW message here is what I see:

I have configured my GMAIL and the mails are working fine with that server. The line that is underlined in bold is the difference in the header when I send using my office ID and from GMAIL configured: with configured GMAIL the line looks like:

My IP address is being treated differently in both the cases. Is there something I need to do extra to solve this issue. This might be the reason why Iam not able to send mails to any other domain other than my office domain from my OFFICE ID.
Is there something that Iam missing while configuring??
    Thanks in Advance,
    Pradeep

If you are running a mail client, then your mail client is probably not configured to use the correct ports with your office mail server (use of the mail submission port, TCP 587 would be typical).  It looks like you might be connecting in without benefit of authentication.  Work with your mail server administrator to determine local requirements for your particular mail server.  (It's somewhat surprising you got as far as sending mail with this configuration and got detected as a spam engine; your office mail server may well have other issues.)
If you are running a mail server (more typical of this forum), then the following diagnostic is your answer why this message got rejected: [BAYES_50=0.8, HELO_DYNAMIC_IPADDR=1.951, RCVD_IN_BRBL_LASTEXT=1.449, RCVD_IN_PBL=3.335, RDNS_NONE=0.793]
Loosely translated, your mail server IP and DNS looks like a spam engine.   (Now whether that's your office mail server that's configured incorrectly and being detected as a spam engine, or your mail client that's getting misdetected by a somewhat-too-open office mail server wasn't immediately clear to me.)
More specifically, this diagnostuc means your public reverse DNS is not an IP address that is expected to be sending mail.  As is listed in the diagnostic, the IP address you are using is in several blacklists.  Among other issues, the IP address is being detected as a dynamic address (HELO_DYNAMIC_IPADDR), it's listed in a Barracuda blacklist,  and it's listed in a Spamhaus blacklist.
Talk to your ISP, and get your forward DNS, your reverse DNS and your MX record to all match your domain, and both you and your ISP will want to get your IP address out of the blacklist.
If you cannot get your addresses to match and sort out your DNS, then you'll have to configure your mail client or your mail server to use your ISP mail server as a relay (if your ISP permits that), or work with some other mail server provider where you can obtain authorization to relay mail.
(Forward DNS: domain name to IP address.  Reverse DNS: IP address to domain name.  MX: the host name A record for the mail server for the domain.)

  • Mail & Moving Spam?

    Hello,
I'm using my MacBookPro and Mail for about one month now. I like Mail, so I don't want to use Thunderbird like I did with Linux before.
I have 3 Accounts, one hotmail, one POP3 and one IMAP account. At first I started with training mode (or however it is called, I use the german version) and changed it to automatic mode. The spam mails in the POP3 and hotmail account are moved to the right folder. But if I recieved a spam mail in my IMAP account, it is just marked and NOT moved. That's really bad, because I recieve about 300 spam mails per day.
I tried resetting the spam filter, but nothing didn't change... Doesn't it work with IMAP accounts?
    Thanks a lot!

    > My ImapFolders look like this in my Maildir (I did ls on the server)
The question is how/where do they appear in Mail, not how do they appear in Maildir or elsewhere. This is the fifth time I ask this question! If server-stored mailboxes appear in Mail as subfolders of the account’s Inbox, you should type INBOX in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > IMAP Path Prefix. Anyway, this has nothing to do with the issue at hand if Store junk messages on the server is OFF.
I don't want the messages to be left on the server?
I don’t understand. Why do you ask me what you do or don’t want? Or the ‘?’ at the end was a typo and you’re just telling me that you don’t want Mail to store messages on the server?
if I choose Automatic Mode, Mail shouldn't about the
    advanced settings, right?
Again, I have no idea what are you talking about here.
if I recieve a junk mail, which is marked by Mail as Junk
it is left in the "normal" folder.
Again, that’s almost certainly because you’ve messed up the Junk Mail > Advanced settings without fully understanding how the junk filter works. In particular, messages are marked as junk as a side effect of evaluating the Message is Junk Mail condition, regardless of whether they’re moved to Junk or not.
Do you realize that any changes you made to the Junk Mail > Advanced settings are essential information that you should have mentioned from the very beginning, but you didn’t (vaguely) mention that until your fourth post, and even now you’re (still vaguely) talking about it as if it had nothing to do with the issue at hand and they were instead “rules” independent of the junk filter settings? What a huge waste of time!
Proceeding as follows should fix the problem:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
    3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).
    4. Instead of trying to outsmart the junk filter with your own “rules”, manually mark as either junk or not junk the messages that Mail fails to identify correctly from now on, so that the junk filter learns to do it better.

  • Is my mac mail sending spam?

I have 4 different emails for various business that I own.
Today I got an email from one of my own accounts to that same account. It's about some kind of Canadian online pharmacy.
I know I did not send it.
What should I do about this?
For a few weeks I've been getting emails bounced back to me saying undeliverable to a certain address. I'll look at the email and it's not one I've sent or know anything about? I just delete and move on. However I'm getting about 20 of these spam emails a day. Very frustrating.
    What can I do?
    -Drew

Many spammers obtain email addresses that are legitimate and use them as the From or Reply To addresses on the spam they send out. This is to prevent normal junk mail filters from sending their spam to the junk mail or trash folder.
Not much you can do about it besides changing your email address then installing software for anonymous browsing and email. This may not be a good solution for business usage unless all your recipients know who you are because such software hides where the email is from.

Edit the contact and verify that the phone number is in a field named Mobile or iPhone. Sometime work or home is for email, not for phone numbers.
