Are mailboxes and smart mailboxes really missing?

Just got my new iPad. Set up mail. Am I missing something, or is creating mailboxes and smart mailboxes really absent here? If so, then it's really not going to be possible for me to jettison my laptop top as I was hoping to do. In which case, color me majorly disappointed.

Thanks for confirming that I wasn't missing some in context aspect. (I see from another reply that it may be possible to set up Mailboxes within Mobile Me and have them appear on the iPad). As to research, I assumed in buying at this early stage that it would be evolving -- and that Apple will be watching closely to see which additional features to tweak/add. So I've also gone to their feedback page to request this one, plus an ability to view more than 200 msgs at a time.

  • All The Notes and All my personalized Mailboxes and Smart mailboxes have disappeared

When I woke up my MacBook Pro and wanted to check email, all The Notes and All my personalized Mailboxes and Smart mailboxes have disappeared.
I only have the standard mailboxes like inbox, sent, trash, etc...
    Anyone can help with this?
    Thanks
    Short background:
I have upgraded recently from Snow Leopard to Lion.
I have lost a lot of software (and had to re-purchase licences and re-install it) but then I have said to myself BE IT! great that I did not lose critical stuff.
I have also said that I will do the Time Machine back-up when everything is working fine....
Well, I think I was a bit too quick with my statement and too slow with the back-up...
    Mugur

You are not getting them from there, you just verifying if you have a back up with notes (you will have to check the date and try to remember if had those at that date and time.) Then you have two ways to go - the apple way and third party way.
1 Apple way - restore from back up (downside is you going to lose changes to your phone since the last back up)
be careful - not to overwrite last back up when you connect your phone, I would find and copy back up file just in case to external drive. You can find location of your actual back up file using that article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
if you expand where it says "where back ups are stored on the computer"
how to restore from itunes back up here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    2. not Apple way.- there are programs for windows that allow you to look inside of actual back up file.
Google is your friend for that one.
If you don't like my results just adjust search to your liking.

  • Difference between Smart Mailbox and Smart Mailbox Folder

What are the reason(s) for using one over the other?

I know it's a bit less than obvious, but they're not equivalent or an "either/or". A "Smart Mailbox Folder" allows you to put your Smart Mailboxes into folders for grouping purposes. For instance, you could have a Smart Mailbox that collects all your messages to and from a friend of yours named "Sam", one that collected message to and from "Frieda", etc. and collect them all in a Smart Mailbox Folder titled "Friends". It's strictly an organization thing, for your own convenience, sort of like putting playlists in folders in iTunes, if you're familiar with that. If you only have a couple of Smart Mailboxes, a Smart Mailbox Folder probably won't be of much help, but if you have a bunch of Smart Mailboxes, organizing them into folders might be useful.
    Hope this explains things.
    Regards.

  • Lost all my mailbox and smart mailbox folders when I had to reinstall Mail

My messages were garbled...a message from one person today was attached to a message from a completely different person sent weeks ago. Called Apple and we removed Mail and plist from the Finder Library. Now my new messages are fine. But I've lost all my Mailbox folders where I organized messages. Can't find the messages on the dotmac server either. Where are those messages? I need to find them.

Mailboxes and messages are located in ~/Library/Mail Check that folder to see if any folders are named for your accounts (e.g., [email protected]). Look in these folders if they contain any messages.
Alternatively, you can do a Spotlight search for a specific message that you know you had. In the Search results, right-click to Show in Finder. This may lead you to where all your other messages are.
Other than re-importing messages from within Mail.app, I don't know how you can restore everything including folder structures, etc. Perhaps someone else in this forum can give pointers. Re smart mailboxes, you can just recreate them once everything is back in.

  • Sync Smart Groups and Smart Mailboxes across network

Is there a way to Sync my Smart Groups in Addressbook and Smart Mailboxes in Mac Mail across my Macbook and My iMac? I have iCloud.
It would be nice if I did not have to duplicate these "Smart" groups on each computer.
    Thanks Mac Community.

Can you just type out the criteria of the smart group, or post a screen shot of the smart group.
With all the editorializing, I can't figure out what you want to do.
Where are the contacts in the groups, iCloud or On My Mac?

  • Mail: search and smart mailboxes stopped working

    Hi folks,
In mail the search and smart mailboxes have stopped working.  I have a hunch it's something to do with iCloud as my partner is now logged onto iCloud using iTunes etc. Can you help?

My accounts are POP. But I have managed to fix the problem. When you mentioned Spotlight, I went into System Preferences thinking I may had accidentally turn off emails as a search option in Spotlight. It was on, but I turned it OFF and then ON again, and now search works in mail as usual. And my Smart Mailboxes too.
    It's one of those things
    Thanks for your help

  • I'm using Apple Mail 2.1.3 on a MacBook running OS 10.4.11. A very strange thing is happening. E-mail messages that I either sent or received months ago are showing up in my mailbox and receivers' mailboxes. Help!

I'm using Apple Mail 2.1.3 on a MacBook running OS 10.4.11. A very strange thing is happening. E-mail messages that I either sent or received months ago are showing up in my mailbox and receivers' mailboxes. In one case, a message someone had sent to me wound up in the mailbox of a third person, who was not included in the address list!!  I have only two accounts, and have checked everything; only one account is showing the repeats Now, that account is my professional account, and it resides in three places: I use it on the laptop described here, I use it through Apple Mail on the much newer desktop Mac in my office, and I can run it through Web mail on my employer's server, which is where the professional account resides (I have a mailbox there, etc.) That program is called Zimbra.
My personal account is with Earthlink and is not doing the repeats. I access it either through my MacBook's Apple Mail or the Web; the Apple Mail on my office Mac is not configured to access the Earthlink server.
What IS going on here?? My friends, colleagues, and students (I teach college) are mystified by these ancient messages.

  • Mailbox vs. smart mailbox - advantages?

I'm converting from Outlook express to Mail. I get the concept of smart mailboxes (e.g., all the mail stays in the inbox and the smart mailboxes are just searches).
However, I liked the rules setup with specific mailboxes in outlook. As far as I can tell I can do that in Mail, but is there any advantage in doing it one way or the other? Does the inbox eventually get too large if you just use smart mailboxes?
20" iMac intel duo   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It is not meant really to be an either/or thing. I use the Inbox for the mail that has justt recently come in. I've gotten into the habit of deleting of foldering email -- putting them into other folders. So, you don't quite have he idea, as it is not that the mail stays in the Inbox, but that it stays wherever it actually is but is also put in this virtual mailbox.
Smart mailboxes are excellent for gathering messages together with specific attributes, as you can probably imagine.
Currently, the only "permanent" Smart mailboxes I have are: Flagged (that shows me all flagged messages, wherever they are) and Unread (as I automatically folder some incoming mail, and this shows me all the unread in one "folder").
I often create temporary smart mailboxes when I have a complex search to perform (all messages in a certain date range from a particular party with one or more attachments, for example).

  • Shared mailbox and personal mailbox showing identical content in Outlook

I have one user on Outlook 2010 who has Full Access permissions to a shared mailbox. In OWA, everything looks fine, but in Outlook, the shared mailbox shows the contents of her personal mailbox instead of the content of the shared mailbox.
If she views the shared mailbox's Inbox, it shows her the contents of her own Inbox instead of the shared mailbox. If she attempts to view the shared mailbox's Calendar, it shows her nothing at all. There are no error messages.
I configured a separate Mail profile (via Control Panel) for the shared mailbox, and that works fine also.
I deleted her Mail profile and all cached Outlook data, then created a new profile, and let Outlook recache all the data. Same problem.
Any ideas what is going on or how to fix it?

    Finally some moderately helpful info:
The end user logs into a computer on an untrusted, foreign AD domain (domain2.com) using an account from that domain. She then logs into her Exchange mailbox in Outlook using her domain.com account.
Every domain2.com computer she logs into gives her the same random mailbox mirroring problem.
I had her log into Outlook on a computer on domain.com located in my office and leave it running for 3 days. Every time her Outlook client on her regular computer would start or stop mirroring mailboxes, she would let me know, and I'd check the computer
in my office and find no problem.
So the problem is something in the foreign domain or something that that domain's administrators are doing to the computers. Unfortunately, several other people on that domain are using mailboxes and shared mailboxes on my Exchange servers in the exact same
configuration and are not having this problem. It is only this one user.
I am pretty sure they are not using roaming profiles. I know they are not using mandatory profiles.

It appears the 15" 2.2 ghz isn't worth spending $400 more for, but you get the 1GB Radeon 6750M that has four times the VRAM than the 15" 2.0Ghz model and about 167% more performance. High settings on all current games with over 50 fps.
If your not into 3D gaming or just light weight, then the 2.0 Ghz (last years performance) will suffice on low-medium settings at about 30 fps.
The 13" is rather poor as it has integrated graphics. 30 fps on only some games.
The high res screen is a excellent choice and the anti-glare is great for viewing just about anywhere.
No messy films to replace at $30-$40 a pop.
A lot of people bring the glossy screens back once they hear about the anti-glare.

    Here's my 17"
In my opinion the extra $400 for another 2-3 years of use out of the computer is worth it.
Quad cores are more than enough for most uses for most people for many years, it's just a slow card is going to make the machine feel slow in rendering graphics in the future.

  • Retention Policy between Mailbox and Archive Mailbox level

    Dear All
I have some questions about the Retention Policy between Mailbox and Archive Mailbox.
I want to apply different retention tag on different Mailbox level.
In normal case , I would like apply the Retention Policy for Mailbox after 28 days moving to archive Mailbox and over 365 days to be deleted.
And the Archive Mailbox should be liked deleted the mail over 90 or 180 days.
But I found that the archive Mailbox is applied the same Retention Policy as the Mailbox one.
Is it Normal case ? How can I set another retention Policy for My archive Mailbox ?
    Best Regards
    Vincent Chi

You cannot have a different retention policy for primary and archive mailbox. The policy applied to the primary mailbox also applies
    to the archive mailbox.

  • Email set up - Sent box and smart mailboxes

Hi. I am new to mac and mavericks. I have migrated my various email accounts successfully BUT have a problem in that each email account does not have its own inbox and sent mail. Yes, I know I can pick up the separate accounts under Inbox - although it is a very cumbersome way to do it.
BUT all the sent mail is in one box. This is VERY frustrating as I have my personal emails and emails for two companies all in the same sent box.
This is a logistical nightmare. Furthermore, sent replies do not figure in the conversation thread until the recipient replies ... this is a real problem if the recipient does not reply.
I thought I might be able to circumnavigate this issue by setting up smart mailboxes but when I set up a new smart box I cannot then access the access the 'edit' or change criteria as they are greyed out.
Can anyone help? Make suggestions? HELP!!!

    Hi Barney-15E
Thanks for your response - i am about 12 hrs ahead of you hence delayed reply.
    1) I had the sent mailbox settings to date rather than mailboxes. Have changed that so at least the 'sents' are now in their correct mailboxes.- I hope.
    2) smart mailbox - i had set up one account, it had a gear next to it but remained greyed out when selected (in fact it keeps coming up in the rename mode), which of course is why the 'edit' did not function. i have deleted it. I do not know why it remained greyed out.
    Am I doing something crass?
    3) all my other mailboxes are gmail, and no sign of a 'sent' within them. I have them on my iPad as well and they function perfectly there. Sadly iPad is not functional for business purposes except in emergency when it is a real saver...just not suitable for other documents.
In gmail (old style) I have a number of folders and moving emails into folders was no problem. It would be so good to be able to deal with just one mailbox at a time! I will eventually adapt to the mac system I guess. At the moment I seem to be spending more time frigging around than doing actual work!
    I really appreciate your assistance.

  • Mail folders and smart mailbox

Can someone tell me what the difference is between a regular mail folder and a smart mailbox?
I made a lot of mail folders under "on my mac" and I just found that I can make a smart mailbox. How are they different?
When do you use one and not the other?
    Thanks, Susan

a smart mailbox is not a regular folder. it's a saved search. you do a search and save the search parameters so you can repeat the search quickly. that's what a smart mailbox is. no actual messages are moved anywhere when you make a smart mailbox.

  • Support for ActiveSync Smart Forward and Smart Reply still missing?

    Hi,
am I right that current device OS (tested 10.3.1.1565) is still *not* supporting ActiveSync options "Smart Forward" and "Smart Reply"?
If so, is there an ETA when these options will be supported?

  • Why are Sound and Vibration Toolset examples missing?

I have installed the November Developer Suite CDs, the full Sound and Vibration Toolset and appropriate NI-DSA/NI-DAQ drivers for my PCI-4552. Why aren't all the SVTXMPs found? Specifically, Engine Run-up and Transient Analysis examples are missing from Labview->Find Examples->Browse->Toolsets and Modules->Sound and Vibration.

I think the examples are there, they've just been installed in a different path from the one the "Search Examples" app is looking for. Try:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 6.1\examples\Sound and Vibration\Transients Analysis
This should get you to the examples your looking for.
