Are messages on mail downloaded on my hard disc?

Hello,
I have a work account with my company. The company is using Lotus Notes.
Before upgrading to Mavericks, I had Lotus Notes on my mac, I was replicating the new messages but most of all I liked the fact that a copy of all mails and contacts saved in 15 of work with this company was saved on my HD, there to be accessed in remote mode (island) even in case one day I stopped having this email account.
I am now forced to use mail also for my work emails.
Which is good because I like mail more than Lotus, but I have one doubt.
Is mail downloading and saving all the mails, or is the list on my computer there, only as long as I have an active account at work?
I like to keep the mailbox synched with my work system, but would I be able to access all the messages, the day when my work account is closed?
Hope the question is clear.
How to add a copy of the messages and the contacts on the section "ON MY MAC".
Thanks a lot!

Thanks again but probably I don't understand your explanation.
I can see the messages, because I now have an active work account that mail connects to.
What if one day in the future I didn't have this work account anymore, and the messages will be deleted from the work database, would I still be able to visualise them in my mail box?
Or will they "disappear"
Thanks

  • Why are messages in Mail continuing to be saved in Drafts after they are sent?

    Hi Friends,
Messages that i do not indicate to be saved as a draft are being saved in my Drafts folder long after they've been sent. when i notice that 8 or 10 messages are in the Drafts folder, i then search in my Sent folder to be sure my email(s) was/were sent. and sure enough, they were sent successfully. yet there the copies are, sitting in my Drafts folder as well. any one else with this peculiarity or perhaps the solution?
    many thanks!
    beth

    Hi Paul,
thank you. you know, i did find that on my own but problem is, when i deselect that option, then none of my messages is saved as a draft even when i want it to be. the option to save as draft is gone. and i do, actually, begin messages for certain business things and songwriting, wish to save as drafts, then reopen, edit and complete and send later.
so unfortunately it doesn't help me to deselect that option.
and then still... messages i have no need or intention for saving as drafts are also saved. just randomly, but often enough that it's a strange pattern.
    thanks again!

  • Apple TV 1st generation. purchases movies are not synch with itunes anymore. Hard disc is full now. How to transfer to MAC.

Sorry for my bad englich. I have an apple TV first generation for somie years now. I used to buy movies. Via Itundes sync they got transferred to my mac mini. This is not working anymore (half a year). Hard disk on apptle TV is full now.
I did not change any configuration. Computer and TV are activated for same store account.

Are you trying to transfer stuff to iTunes from AppleTV or from AppleTV to iTunes.
Syncing of purchases from AppleTV to iTunes is no longer a necessity if your country supports purchases in the cloud - you should just be able to download old purchases from the internet in iTunes - go to the iTunes Store page with the home icon and look for the Purchased Quick Link on the far right.
If AppleTV is full and you want different content you will need to change the sync Settings in iTunes - you can sync manually which is what I preferred.

  • Hard Disc (301) Error

    Help!
Receive the message about an error with the hard disc.  Ran diagostics and hard disc and startup tests failed immediately.  Computer still under warranty but I am concerned about the data on the disc.  Have not backed up to the remote drive in a while and I do not want to lose what is on the drive.  Any advice before sending away to get repaired?.
    Thank you

    Hi:
Your only option would be to buy a sata to usb external notebook hard drive enclosure and see if you can retrieve any data from it by reading the disk from another PC.
Please understand that this will be a long shot, and I highly doubt any of the data will be retrievable.
But you have nothing to lose (except the $15 - $20 for the purchase of an external HDD enclosure) by trying.

  • Mail downloads all messages– how to stop it

Using OS 10.9.1 now, but this behavior is for previous OS versions, as well.
I use Mail with Yahoo IMAP, and it downloads all messages to my hard drive. Can I set it not to do that? The preferenences are set to " Check for new messages manually" and have been for years, but it still downloads every message. Is the "checking" process independent of the downloading of messages? I kind of thought I could control these two processes. In other words, can I set Mail to download only the messages that are less than one year old or to show the messages, but not download them? I know I can use the web to view without downloading, but here in China, the web is sometimes "off" for Yahoo, while a mail client can still show Yahoo email, so it is often necessary to use the Mail app to see email. I just don't need them saved to my hard drive.

I was searching to see if Apple Mail and Yahoo Imap downloads everything when I came across your post!   While I like that, it would be good if someone could tell us where the setting/option is for it.
Perhaps in Yahoo itself?  Nah!  That doesn't make sense.  It should be on the client side (if I have my terminology correct!)

  • Not all messages are delivered to Mail

It's so frustrating! My web-based version of my POP account receives messages that Mail doesn't. It has nothing to do with junk filters or rules; the mail just never arrives. There's no particular domain after the '@' that doesn't arrive, although I first noticed it when someone with a gmail account tried to email me. Furthermore, I sent an email with my own gmail account to my pop account in question and it never arrived in Mail! Is something corrupted in my Mail app?
I'd really appreciate your feedback on this.
    adrian

    Try the following.
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > this account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded.
Delete the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file and empty the Trash.
Launch Mail and if successful, any previously downloaded messages that remain on the server will be downloaded again in addition to all messages available not yet downloaded by Mail.
If not successful and although I haven't experienced the same, it has been reported by others here that certain spam messages or legit messages than contain unusual formatted HTML sometimes "clog" the receipt of all messages available at the incoming mail server. Look for and delete all spam messages that are available at the incoming mail server for the account via webmail access.

  • How can I automatically open Mail.app message attachments after downloading

The subject says it all, I think.
    My wish #1
Automatically Opening Mail.app message attachments after downloading
    My Wish #2
At least having the Finder automatically default to the folder I just downloaded to after completing the download.
Is this an option in Leopard, at least?

Very clever. But unfortunately that doesn't seem to work in Tiger.
Then again, I stil presume that when you do that, a ile is still downloaded and appears somewhere on your hard drive. If you "save as" the file opened by preview, you probably still need to go back to the place where the file was saved and delete it.
Then again again, if Preview is peeking into a Word or Excel attachment, it may not actually be "downloading it" first?? Strange. If it was a jpg file attachment, on the other hand, it seems more likely that some sort of file would be downloaded to the hard drive as a result of that drag and drop of the paper clip.
I did find that drag and drop capability interesting, though. Even in Tiger.
Oh well. I have to start looking at scripts.
When I downloaded that Automator application that was supposed to "close all open applications", I was surprised that it didn't work. Says it works with TIger. ???
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/
Was I supposed to import it into Automator as an "action" and save it as an Automator application and then open Automator and click "run" for that action each time I wanted to use it? Seams a bit cumbersome.

  • Mail downloading 1 of 842 but nothing happens and there are no emails to dl

I have an IMAP server and randomly the Mail Activity bar says it is downloading 1 of (insert random number between 1 and 1000) and will do that for a few minutes, show it's "completed," and stop. There is no indication from my inbox that emails are actually coming in.
Otherwise Mail downloads like normal, as in I do receive emails when they are actually there to download, but what is the deal with the magnitude of these ghost emails?
I tried to look through the forum after trying my hand at a google search but to no avail. I wouldn't be surprised if this has something to do with the account being set up as an IMAP, but the number always changes and this thing happens at least a few times whenever Mail is open.
Also, this was an issue with 10.5.8 (and previous) as well, so SL didn't fix it as I hoped.
    Thoughts?

You should review your settings in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced regarding keeping copies of messages and their attachment for Offline Viewing. With an IMAP account only the list of messages needs to be downloaded until you click on a particular message to view and read. But with the setting to keep messages, all the messages will be downloaded and kept as a temporary copy. If you read and delete a message while Offline, for example, when you next go Online Mail will sync the copies you have on your computer with those on the server and update.
It sounds like your copies, if set to be kept, are for some reason not being retained between sessions and are reloading the cache -- but just a guess?

  • Problems downloading Hotmail messages in Mail

I am having difficulty downloading my Hotmail email messages into Mail.  I have just started using my MBP for this purpose and find that email messages until May this year have been downloaded, but past that it appears that there are 210 messages to download, but the machine is not responding.  Indeed, it appears to be hanging, with the transfer rate at 0 kB/s.
    Please help.

  • Why doesn't Apple mail download Gmail messages that were sent to myself?

When I e-mail myself to my Gmail address, the message sits in the Gmail inbox but Apple
    Mail doesn't download it.
Mail downloads every other message in the Gmail inbox, but not the ones i've addressed to myself to my Gmail address.
Any ideas for why this is happening?

Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies:
    1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
    2. To make already downloaded messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which causes everything (and I mean everything) still on the server to be downloaded again.
    3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone. In the case of Gmail (and only in that case), I recommend turning OFF Remove copy from server in Mail, so that Mail doesn’t even try to remove any messages from the server, regardless of whether you do actually want already downloaded messages to be removed from the server after some time or not.
    4. Messages sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were received messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
    5. Messages sent using a POP/SMTP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in #4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. Since they’re on the server nonetheless, already sent messages would be downloaded together with all the other messages on the server if proceeding as described in #2.
    6. A particular case of #5 are messages sent to yourself. Instead of putting a copy of the sent message in the server’s Inbox and making it available for download, both the sent and the “received” message on the server are actually one and the same, and hence, cannot be downloaded via POP for the reason explained in #5.
    7. Gmail allows POP accounts to be set up in a special way that avoids some of these issues while introducing others. If you only need POP access to the last 30 days of mail, you may configure Mail in “recent mode”, as described in Using POP on multiple clients or mobile devices. Configuring the account this way would allow Mail to download messages marked by Gmail as already downloaded (and download messages sent to yourself in particular), but it would also cause all sent messages (not just messages sent to yourself or through webmail) to be downloaded as if they were received messages.

  • Mail downloading all 800000 messages from Yahoo

So I installed Mountain Lion and set up my Yahoo! Mail account so that I could receive incoming messages in notifications center and sync my notes to my iPhone. Now Mail says it is downloading all 800000 messages from my mailbox. I've had this account for like 10 years and I like to keep all of my messages. Is there really no way to limit how many messages Mail downloads? The iPhone does this fine. Since the account is IMAP too, if I delete messages in mail it deletes them from the server. I guess I'll have to make an archives folder and move stuff from my inbox there and not sync it.
Also, my notes are not syncing with my iPhone...My iPhone is set to sync to yahoo notes, but when I clicked notes for iCloud it made me set up a @me account. Do I need to update to iOS 5.1 for notes sync to work with my iPhone?

    RGH!
So, I followed the advice on the other link (deleting the downloaded messages info file), and even deleted my whole sent messages.imapmbox and rebuilt it, but my computer keeps downloading all 7500 or so sent messages over and over (more or less every time I start up Mail after the computer has been shut down). The sent messages box keeps growing and growing until I rebuild. On my MBP the folder is 5GB or so, and currently the one on my (problem) MacPro is 14gb and will surely be bigger before the weekend is out.
Another thing: If I try to stop the messages from downloading (by clicking on the little 'x' next to the progress bar in the 'Mail Activity' window, then it just ADDS the 7500 messages again onto the total to be downloaded (meaning 15,000 messages downloading and the 22,500 if I try to cancel again)
This is highly frustrating, and potentially damaging to my system drive if I fail to keep tabs on the folder.
    Please, any other ideas/suggestions?

  • Opening messages and having them save on desktop rather than mail downloads

how do I make it so that when I click on an attachment in an email message, it will be downloaded into my desktop and not my mail downloads folder. when I had panther, it always just moved any documents or files I opened on the message directly onto desktop so I could find it and move it into the proper folder quicker. I never even used the save function on the message so the downloads folder on my dock would be obsolete. maybe thats why its there, but honestly it takes more time to do it like that so I prefer to just have the ones I need and want to open moved to the desktop as I open it for the first time.

I guess my question wasn't specific enough. Im actually talking about when I double click an attachment that is on the email and it opens with the correct application, the attachment then saves itself onto the Mail Downloads folder which is located under the Library folder. I think what you mean is when I press Save for my attachments, that I can change where it goes. Which is not my concern at this time. With the previous OS, I could double click an attachment and it would immediately save to my desktop and not the Mail Downloads folder in the Libary.

  • Where are the mail downloads in Lion?

I sent some photos from my Iphone to my Mail (lion). I do not have the newest iPhoto for Photo-stream (because Ido not want all my photos on my iPhone - but I'd like only to send 1 way > iPhoto)  But I don't know where the downloaded photos are. If I put them in iPhoto and then trash the email with the photo, won't iPhoto say it cannot locate the original? The was the case in previous OSX SL and before, so I always went to the download folder and moved it to another folder. If I want to store that photo in another file I would, but I don't know where the damm photo is originally. HELP!

Mail Download folder is in HardDrive > Users > *Your Name* > Library.
The folder will be invisable by default, so Finder -> Go to  and hold down Option key would show "Library" in the list. Click on it would bring you to the hidden folder.
If you want to access it regularly then either drag it to the left menu bar or take this advice from Kappy, as I did
If you wish to have it displayed do this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities and enter or paste the following at the prompt:
    sudo chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed.
(Copy Paste that command. Don't try to type it)
    Good Luck
