Are my custom color profiles invisible?

Two questions:
1. I have .icc profiles that I'd like to access through the finder for management purposes (toss some). If I open ColorSync I can find the profiles and see the string to said profiles, but when I navigate the string through the Finder, my profiles aren't there. Why are they invisible and can I/how do I reveal them?
Secondly and more importantly, I want to make sure my epson pro3800 is printing with the custom profile I made. I can choose it in Photoshop from a looong list (no problem) but when I'm trying to print from another app, I can't be sure it's using that driver. Again, I went to colorsync, selected 'Devices' and chose the profile that had the blue dot next to it (indicating that it was the active profile). The custom profile I wanted was not listed, but I was able to choose 'Other' and navigate to it. (my custom profiles show up in Colorsync). Great! I thought. But when I chose my custom profile, it remained hidden in the device's (pro 3800) profile list. The blue dot does not show up next to any profile now, but I assume it is being used... I can tell by clicking on the old profile and looking at the string.
So how do I get my custom profiles to show up under my pro3800's list of usable icc's??? And how do I find/manage them from the desktop (Finder)?

+If these aren't in /Library sub folders they could be in /Users/yourname/Library sub folder (depends if they were installed for a single user or all users)+
SHAZAM!! You solved it for me. When you told me to check the directories before, I was already in Users/yourname/etc. I didn't realize there was another Library at the System level. The profiles were there, glaring at me like they'd been there the whole time. Imagine that.
All the subfolders you mentioned were in there respective places too.
But that brings up another question... One always leads to another, right?
Why do I have three 'Library' folders that all have Colorsync folders with different profiles in them???
I've got one at StartUpDrive/Library/subfolders
another at StartUpDrive/System/Library/subfolders
and a third at StartUpDrive/username/Library, though this one hasn't been modified since 2004. Can I delete it?
Thanks a ton

  • Problem using custom color profiles in Camera Raw

    Dear Adobe Community,
I've created a custom color profile using the DNG profile editor, and I've been able to open that custom .dcp file in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) through Adobe Bridge.  However, when I apply the color profile to the same image, I do not get the same results as I get with the profile editor.  When I open the "corrected" RAW file in Adobe Photoshop, the colors are the same wrong colors that I have in Bridge, am I missing something here?

    Yes, you're missing something.
Camera profiles are meant to account for different spectral distribution in different light sources, which is something else than different color temperatures. You still have to make all the normal adjustments, like white balancing, to get the image right.

Ah, ok, camera profiles.  They should go to Macintosh HD / Users / [your username] / Library / Application Support / Adobe / CameraRaw / CameraProfiles /

  • How do I get a custom color profile into a PDF?

I have a client who provided a custom color profile for a CMYK file.
I worked on Photoshop CS5.1 images and made sure the profile is embedded.
I placed these Photoshop images into an Illustrator CS5.1 template and made sure the profile is embedded.
I need to create a hires PDF with the Press Quality settings from the Illustrator file.
I have been doing a Save As to PDF from Illustrator, which seems to work.
OK, that's when my troubles start.... When I go into Acrobat Pro X v10.0.0 nothing indicates my profile is there.
I even have the profile loaded into Acrobat.
The client seems to want the Paper Simulation to show their profile, but the profile does not even come up in the list when I look for it. It seems to default to RGB even though this is a CMYK file.
I messed this up once already, and I need to get it right this time.
The client is in Germany and they sound very angry when they don't get the proper files.

  • Custom Color Profiles

With the wonderful creation of X-Rite's Color Checker Passport and their software integration with Lightroom, I find myself creating profiles for lots of different lighting scenarios.  I would really like the ability to delineate between a "global" color profile such as the Adobe Standard or "built-in" ones that come with Lightroom, and a "local" profile.  "Local" profiles would have all of the same metadata as the global ones, but would reside or be associated with a particular folder (which I associate with a client *job*).
When viewing that particular LR folder or *Job*, the local profiles associated with that folder would be shown in the custom color profile drop-down combo box.  This would keep the color profile drop-down box from being polluted by many color profiles that get created (in my case) daily.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add this ability!

    Hey WIll,
Yeah, that's a pretty great idea.

  • Can't delete custom color profile

I created a custom color profile and now it won't let me delete it, the delete option is grayed out. I have looked in the colorsync profile folder and it isn't there either. Does anyone know how to delete it?
    Message was edited by: Chad3405

    Chad,
Open your Color Sync Utility, and find the profile in question. Once highlighted, it will show the path for that profile under "Profile Information:". Follow that path, and you can delete it from there, though it will probably ask for an administrator password. That should be it.
    Hope this helps,

  • Where does Photoshop CS5 pull custom color profiles from?

Photoshop CS5 is not seeing my new custom color profiles for my scanner when i try to "Assign profile" or "Convert profile". it sees my old profiles that I used in CS4. i have made sure to copy the profiles the following directories:
    /System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
    /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
    myuseraccount/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
where else does CS5 pull color profiles from? By the way, those old color profiles DO NOT exist in the above directories. your help is greatly appreciated.
    I am running Photoshop CS5 12.0.1 x32 on mac os x 10.6.4.

In all honesty, I've never had occasion to think about any such "reconciliation".  I've never re-named a profile's file name in the Finder, and in the few cases where I've run into a discrepancy there, I just make it a point to remember the internal name and forget about the other one.

  • Custom color profiles not showing as available in InDesign CC

This is a college graphic design lab environment with iMacs running 10.9.4 and the CC versions of Adobe programs
We have a variety of custom color profiles for our specific printers and media.  They're located in a special folder and an alias of that folder is located in /Library/Colorsync/profiles.  The profiles in that folder do not show up  as available for selection in InDesign CC.  They did before the upgrade to the CC version.  They do show up in Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5 and Illustrator CC.  Is this a known InDesign flaw?  Any ideas for a fix... preferably one that doesn't involve moving the profiles?
    Thanks
    Bob Smith

I had the same issue when playing with my Xerox Phaser 6110 profiled with colormunki. All software except Aperture (3.0.3) recognized the profile (Color Sync, Print dialog, Preview soft-proffing, even LR 3b2). I too tried all possible locations and none worked.
Then I opened the profile in ColorSync, and edited (Profiles -> Xerox... -> Open ->'desc' tag) Ascii and unicode descriptions to read aaa.icc and did a Save As aaa.icc and there it was, available in Aperture, too.
To my great disappointment the soft-proof feature in Aperture seems to be broken for some monitor/printer profile combinations, and is compatibly broken for printing from Aperture. What happens is the resulting image is way too degraded, even beyond the (admittedly crappy) photo printing capabilities of this printer.
IOW printing the same JPG via Preview and/or soft-proofing with the printer's profile yields way more consistent results. Totally unacceptable for a €200 piece of software.

  • Discard custom color profiles?

What happens to a dng file's appearance if you delete the custom color profile it was using?

    Why is that?
You can't remove profile, but you can change it to whatever you want in the same way as described.
By the way, all DNG files created by Adobe software DO contain embedded profile in any case.
Well, if you really want to, you can delete embedded profile using exiftool

  • How to create custom color profile in OSX?

I started thinking about this after downloading the program "f.lux", which changes the color temperature of your screen depending on the time of day. It seems the program accomplishes this by adjusting your display calibration. Some controls for this already exist (you can tinker with them in preferences>display>color) but they can't be calibrated beyond minor changes to gamma and color tempterature. In f.lux they have a "darkroom mode", which is this amazing red-on-black high-contrast effect perfectly suited for use in a darkroom. I feel like a high-contrast monochrome display could come in handy, but I want more control over the brightness and color than what this app offers. I don't see anything like that in the usual preferences, but I do see a host of various color profiles (apple rgb, adobe rgb, PAL, Pantone, and whatever else...). How do I create a completely custom profile, or edit one that exists? Where are these files stored on my computer? Are there workarounds, or any third-party apps for changing my display settings?
    All help is greatly appreciated.

  • PE7 Vista: Cannot see custom color profiles?

The custom profiles I have installed do not appear in the profile selection drop down menu.
I have checked the c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color directory and the profiles are located there.
I have used these profiles to print on XP using Photoshop CS3 (so I don't think the profiles are corrupted in any way).
The Color Management dialog in the Control Panel can see the profiles and allows me to associate them with my printer (Canon SELPHY 760).
I also have a custom scanner profile that cannot be seen.
I have set the PE7 color management settings to "allow me to choose". (although this only seems to modify the work space profile, it does not seem printer related, but just in case).
    Thank you for any help!

You may have encountered a buglet in PSE 7 in which the Print window is perfectly positioned to obscure the scroll bar for the list of profiles. Try moving the Print window to the left a little:

  • Why are printer managed color prints different from Photoshop managed color prints using the same color profile?.

I'm using Photoshop 13.0.1, Windows 7, to print images using custom color profiles made with an XRite colorimeter.  However, when I print the image using Printer Manages Color, it is not the same as Photoshop Manages the colors and selecting the Canon ICC profile that (Canon 7200 MP2) that is the same as the printer managed settings.  Why are these prints not the same if the same color profile is being accessed??

    Hi WA Veghe,
    >First: DO synchronize, makes sure you have the same profile settings and color mange settings.
I don't seem to be able to synchronize between CS4 (Photoshop) and CS3 (Indesign).
It seems I have to do without synchronizing..
    >I do not seem to find HOW you are diplaying images on you screen: with Soft proofing?
What happens if you soft proof in Photoshop and InDesign on screen: View > Proof colors. Do you proof with the same profiles, both simulate paper and black on?
I can simulate Proof Colors (working CMYK), but not simulate Paper, both in Indesign and Photoshop.
Problem is: SAME settings in Photoshop and Indesign BUT the image displayed in Photoshop is brighter and more saturated.
So which image should I correct after?
    thanks for all help

  • Color profiles on LCD

I've been trying to set a custom color profile for my macbook pro LCD display from Adorama. I downloaded the icc and it shows up in color sync utility but I can't get it to select on the system preferences>displays selection screen. Does anyone know how I can select it to run on the display. THanks

If you are just needing a more pleasant viewing experience, try manually calibrating:
Open System Preferences > Displays > Color > "Calibrate..."
Then place a check on "Expert Mode". Follow through the assistant.
When prompted about "Select target gama", I recommend 2.2.
On the page "Select a target white point", uncheck "Use native white point", and move the slider until you are happy. 5000 will produce a very yellow hue, while 9000 will produce a very blue hue. Find a happy median.
    Continue and finish the assistant.
    Hope this helps.

  • Color Profile Settings

    Hi Everyone,
I am a graphic designer and do a mix of web / print work. I am ashamed to say it but i've never really messed around with color profiles as i've always been afraid to mess things up, so i always kept everything on default settings in photoshop.
I recently bought a new monitor, a Samsung S24SA850. Out of the box I could tell the colors were off right away. I do not own a monitor calibration tool so I tried setting the adjustments on the monitor as best as I could but I was sort of disapointed still. After posting in some forums asking for help someone else who had the same monitor was kind enough to provide me with their color profile which was obtained using a professional calibration tool. After applying this profile in windows 7's "Color Management" application I finaly was satisfied with the colors on my screen.
After a while I realized that when doing work in photoshop and looking at the results in my web browser, the colors were not exactly the same... I opened the "Color Settings" panel in photoshop and saw that I was using the "North America General Purpose 2" setting which I assume is the default, with the RGB working space set to "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" , when I clicked on the drop down to show what the other RGB option were I could see my monitor's custom color profile there so i selected it and saw that the colors in my document changed and it actually reflects the colors that I see in windows or my browser.
I wonder if doing this change can be bad in some way though ? I notice that the setting changed from "North America General Purpose 2" to "Custom" and that because i selected my monitor's custom profile in the working space RGB drop down that now in the "Color Management Policies" options the RGB drop down was set to "OFF" instead of "Preserve Embedded Profiles" which was previously selected before, and I cannot select that option anymore because it is greyed out.
Also when creating a new document in photoshop i notice there is an "advanced" zone, where I can choose a color profile, right now I set it to "dont color manage this document" but am again wondering if this is a mistake...
Basically, I'd really appreciate if anyone could tell me exactly what needs to be changed or if i should change anything at all ? should I go back to the default North America General Purpose 2 settings even though the colors dont look exactly the same as when i view the artwork in other programs/windows/browser ?
    Thanks,

    Rasta_Cook wrote:
Wait, you mean that i shouldnt use the monitor's custom color profile EVEN in window's "color management" application ?
Well, in your case you should, because you got the profile from somewhere else. But a calibrator will do it automatically - and from that point you don't touch it. Especially not in PS color settings.
If the profile works, by all means use it. But a calibrator may not be as expensive as you think, and will get you a better result. Windows just assigns sRGB by default.
then I can take screenshots and paste them and the color always remain the same
Screenshots is actually one of those special cases I mentioned above. To get it to match, first assign the monitor profile and then convert to sRGB.
The basic principle here is that if the document profile is the same as the monitor profile, color management is disabled because no conversion happens and the document RGB values are sent unchanged to the display. Then everything will match - but it won't be right. With a good monitor profile you can trust Photoshop.
