Are my iMessages stored on Apple servers?

I ask this because an important thread of iMessages disappeared on phone.
It seems like they would have to be stored on Apple servers, because when I originally set up Messages on my Mac, my iPhone messages automatically appeared on my computer. In fact, the important iMessages are still visible on my Mac.

Yes.  If the conversation isn't on your phone, you can try turning iMessage off, then back on.  Your conversations should reappear when you sign back in.

  • How long are IPhone messages stored on Apple Servers?

    Thought I read somewhere it's 30 days.

If you have visual voicemail messages available, turn on Airplane mode and try accessing a message.
You will see an error message that reads - Visual Voicemail is currently unavailable, with a Call Voicemail selection below.
If you don't have cellular reception, you won't have access to visual voicemail messages which are stored on AT&T servers and made available on the iPhone via AT&T servers only. They are not stored locally on the iPhone.
    You are incorrect.
I have 4 Visual Voicemail messages on my iPhone right now, I can see them in the list when I go to the voice mail area. With the iPhone in Airplane mode, yes the is a button to call voicemail, but the 4 messages that I have on my phone are still listed and can still be played as they are ON MY iPHONE. What you cannot do is get any new messages as clearly there is no network available.
So as I originally stated, once you have received notification that you have a visual voicemail message on your iPhone, that means that the actual message has been downloaded to your iPhone as an audio file, which you can then play regardless of if you have a mobile / data service or not.
This is how visual voicemail operates, it is how you can see who they are from and play them in any order, because they are on the phone and you are NOT contacting the server to listen to them.
It is also why deleted messages can be undeleted, as they are just moved to a 'deleted' area on the phone. Once the network service gets confirmation that the visual voicemail message has been successfully received by the iPhone it is removed from their systems and does not exist anywhere but on the iPhone.

  • Are imessages stored on apple server and how to delete

are imessages stored on an apple server,
if so , how would i permanently delete these ?
i could not find an imessage help guide on the apple website
    thanks

    Hi,
    It remains unclear.
If for instance you Mac is Off line and you have an iPhone iMessages conversation then when the Mac and Messages is turned On the Conversation will sync - even if you have deleted parts (individual IMs) on the iPhone or even an iPad.
In this case "Sync" seems to be "Display on All Devices"  rather than a full on "Copy what I do with this on All Devices"
However adding a new iPhone to be used with the same Apple ID does not transfer/sync all recent iMessages to that iPhone.
The iMessages are not part of the iCloud web page.  In fact the Apple ID used does not have to be an iCloud one.
There seems to be no other contact with the server other than "registering" and Apple ID and the Logging and then syncing/Displaying of iMessages.

  • Where are Inbox emails stored in Apple Mail?

I accidentally erased all the emails in my inbox in Apple Mail.  However, a week before I did this, I backed up my hard drive (cloned it w/ Super Duper) to an external hard drive (called BackUp).  When I boot up in BackUp, I can find my older 'inbox' emails in Mail.  They are intact on this second HD.
I have not been able to import them using the Mail import function - mostly because I cannot find the Inbox folder (see below).  I tried booting up in Backup, and using this path I got down to the folder where I thought the emails were stored:  Library/Mail/POP-(my em address)/Inbox/Messages.  I then copied the Messages folder, mailed it to myself and booted up on the internal hard drive.  After retrieving the Messages folder from my email (which I thought contained the Inbox messages) I swapped it for the Messages folder on the internal hard drive.  This did not change a thing.
So where are the Inbox messages stored?  Or, is there an easier way to import my inbox emails from the BackUp hard drive?
Of course, I can simply forward each message via email from the BackUp drive and retrieve them in the internal drive, but then I lose subjects and the sender's name at the top of the email.
I'm using OS 10.6.8 on an intel iMac.

Thanks for your reply.  You suggested some other avenues for me to pursue - namely, treat the emails as files....
Since the BackUp hard drive is bootable, if I have my iMac running on its internal HD, I cannot drag anything from the BackUp HD to the internal hard drive.  I tried this: - while on the internal HD, i clicked on the mounted icon for BackUp, went to applications, clicked on mail, and Mail opened - but the Inbox that I saw was the relatively empty inbox that is on the internal drive.  True, I did get a second Mail icon on the Dock with its light illuminated, but I cannot open the Mail program with the BackUp Hard Drive files.
I did try booting up to BackUp, I located the files in the Inbox folder that correspond to the emails in the Inbox, copied them to a new email and sent the .emlx files to myself.  Logged back onto the internal drive, opened the email to myself, dragged the attachments (all those .emlx files) to the Inbox messages folder, and closed everything and reopened Mail.  None of the emails that I copied showed up in the inbox - yet if i go to the Inbox messages folder, find the appropriate file and click on it, up comes the email that I want to appear in Mail's Inbox.

Is it possible that the person who sent the message to your phone sent it to your phone # instead?  Try sending a message to your phone via the email address and see if it shows up on the iPad.

Is it possible to differentiate between all the devices? Can I fix this problem?

    I recommend that you
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.

Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on both your iPhone and your iPad to make sure that the following are all true:
    (1) you have selected the same Apple ID on both devices,
    (2) you have the same entries checked under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" on both devices,
    (3) you have the same entry checked under "Start new conversations from:" on both devices,
    and
    (4) that the entry checked in #3 is one of those checked in #2 on both devices.
When you say it has affected your iCloud account, what effect has it had?

i changed my apple id password are my imessages still there and can they be viewed without the new password?

If you want to change your iCloud ID or password on your phone go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated information.  Note: this only deletes the account and any synced data from your phone, not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing accounts it will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.

  • Which Apple servers are used for authentification?

    Hello.
I use iPad in corporate network via WiFi.
Network is secured by  gateway, which stands as a proxy for any inside/outside traffic.
I have an issue - while using AppStore on iPad, after pressing Install button on any application, I got error message:
'Couldn't connect to Store. Unable to setup secure connection to server. Check time settings' (the message is in Russian, so it's not 100% accurate translation).
The issue is solved very easy - if I would press Install while I'm on GSM network internet (3G), app is starting to download. Then I presson app to pause, turn on WiFi and press app to continue - voila, it's downloaded with no problems. So the issuer is narrowed only to failed authentification via gateway, because downloading itself is going OK.
Admins have to add iTunes servers to white list in order to provide working authentification, but couldn't finf exact list of what Apple servers' IP / domain names to add. Does anybody have this info?

  • Apple Servers versus PC Servers -  Who wins?

    Hi
I'm starting a new business and have almost decided to use Mac in the office. One question remains though - servers!
To-date I have only used Mac at home on a stand alone basis. I've only ever used PC's in work and although not 100% sure why I've always seemed to suffer with server problems and down time. While I realise the clear advantages of a stand alone Mac over PC, can the same be said for Apple Servers and if so why?
    Thanks

    Hi Tod
Thanks so much for the response.
The reason for my approach is that we are a repro company, so initially we will have a couple of G5's for the designers, and then either Powerbooks or MiniMacs for the 5-6 other people. There are also going to be at least 2-3 RIPs which take the images from the server and output them to the big printers.
I am planning to use centralised apps, ie Mail and FileMaker Pro Server with the Creative Pro pack as this will give us all the workflow and CRM we need I think. I have also seen that this will link to QuickBooks for accounting, so that should take care of that. There is also a product called MYOB which is accounting for Mac, which also looks good - but I don't think there is any filemaker interaction. All the client files and images will be stored centrally, only other things like Photoshop will be locally installed. I am also hoping to create a desktop image on the server which I can drop on to the MAC for when I need to (re)install it.
The reason for looking at a cluster scenario is that it would be completely scalable, expecially as there will be some big files goind around and a lot of ripping to big colour output machines. Using a centralised storage component would also give us complete scalability.
So, basically rather than having one server for network services/printing/admin, one for mail, one for filemaker etc - I thought that this would be a better way to share processing resources.
I really am trying to avoid having to use windows anywhere!
The LAN infrastructure will hopefully be built on Cisco 3750's which will give 1gb to the desktop and will also provide layer 3 vlaning so we can seperate the "chatter" between the RIP's/admin/dtp desktops.
PHEW! I know this is going to cost a bit, but the plan is to do it right now. We have set an expectation to ourselves that we don't want to have to invest for 3 years (preferably 5) in new hardware except for new hires, but a 2 node cluster will easily give us room for 20 people without even a license upgrade.
The one remaning thought is how we are going to deal with ISDN. Clients may still want to transmit files via this method and I am VERY nevous about putting ISDN directly on the network. I think we may have to buy another maching and create a DMZ on the firewall and have that as a drop box and then viruscheck then connect via RDP to move files manually over to the main server. We could always use this same server as an FTP server and Mail relay too - so it would make best use of having to buy another server.
Anyway - that's us.. your comments always appreciated.

  • IMessage only recognize Apple ID / Email but not phone number. Why?

I have a small problem with the iMessage. My phone only recognize and auto detect the apple ID but not the phone number who are available for iMessage. Does anyone experienced the same problem?
These print screen below is 2 examples from my contact who actually available for the iMessage with their phone number.

i think i have found a fix for this its worked for me so its worth a try. You will need the other persons phone to do this.
    1) Delete the contact from your phone.
    2) On your phone go to Settings > Messages then tap receive at, it it has your Apple ID e-mail address at the top tap that and sign out this will remove your e-mail address from iMessage leaving just your phone number.
    3) Go back to Message settings turn off iMessage.
    4) Turn off your phone and back on.
    5) Go back to Settings > Messages and turn back on iMessage it will then reactivate iMessage
    Now for your friends phone
    1) Go to yourself on your friends contact list and remove your e-mail address if they have it saved.
    2) Go to Settings > Messages then tap receive at, if it has their Apple ID e-mail address at the top tap that and sign out removing their e-mail address.
    3) Go back to Message settings turn off iMessage.
    4) Turn off their phone and turn it back on
    5) Go back to Settings > Messages and turn back on iMessage
once reactivated on both phones follow these steps.
    1) Send a message from your friends phone to yours
    2) On your phone the message should come through and will have your friends mobile number at the top
    3) Reply to your friends message.
    4) Save your friends phone number as a contact again leaving the the country code (i.e UK country code +44)
    5) Delete the message between you and your friend on your phone then compose a new message and and select your friends number and it should automatically send as a iMessage send the message then go back to your contacts remove the Country code from the number and from there on then the iMessage will detect that persons phone number as a iMessage compatible device.
This has worked for me and 3 other of my friends who where having the same problem with a number of their contacts, it seems the error is more to do with your friends phone, when activating iMessage for the first time it automatically defaults to the Apple ID and in some cases causing the phone number not to register correctly with the Apple servers this step by step removes the e-mail and reactivates nothing but the phone number with the iMessage servers.
    Hope This Helps.
