• I upgraded to Mt. Lion and now I have duplicates in notes and contacts on my iPhone 3gs. Is this a sync issue? I have 4 e-mail accounts and the iCloud is one of them.

Maybe my title says to much. I have multple contacts, notes, sometimes just two, sometimes 14. I upgraded to Mt. Lion and that may be an issue or maybe syncing is the issue. It is making me crazy/er! I have 4 e-mail contact lists and that may be part of the issue with e-mail but why duplicate notes? I am stumped. Please give your thoughts for a solution. I have deleted the duplicates from iPhone (3gs, iMac, and iPad2).
Thanks,
Jim

I forgot to say that the duplicate entries return after I have deleted them. Strange to me is why do some contacts show up as many as 14 times. I am suspecting that there could be an issue with iCloud or iTunes. Truly a mystery to me for now.

• Problem-Solution: Help! I'm seeing my iCloud account two or more times in Notes and Contacts!

Problem: Help! I’m seeing my iCloud account two or more times in Notes and Contacts!
Solution:
Open [System Preferences] >
Open [iCloud] >
Uncheck [Contacts] for each duplicate iCloud you see in Contacts. ex. My iCloud Account is listed three times = uncheck Contacts twice. The checkbox next to Contacts will fill back in again automatically.
Uncheck [Notes] for each duplicate iCloud account you see in Notes. (same instructions for Contacts; repeat the steps for each duplicate account)
Why is this happening?
It has to do with iCloud Keychain. If you set up iCloud keychain on more than one Mac, it appears to duplicate the iCloud account in each respective application once per Mac. (ex. 2 Macs = 1 Duplicate). The good news is that the above fix appears to be permanent and does not reoccur.

Minor addition:
I’m setting up a new Mac—how can I avoid this?
Turn on iCloud in System Preferences (SP)
When asked if you wish to set up Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Find my Mac, et al., uncheck all boxes, and click Next.
Check the “Keychain” box first, then check all other boxes except Contacts and Notes.
Within a few minutes, these boxes will check themselves.

itunes could not sync contacts to the iphone because the contacts are in use by the i phone....  hi i always get this messega when i plug my phone in to the iphone is there anyone have any idea how to fix my phone thank u

Am I'm the only one with this issue?
As I investigate the crash logs it appears that the contacts db is corrupted and that is what is killing the phone, contacts, and mail etc settings.
I have my contacts backed up several places so I'm not worried about losing them.
Anyone know how to wipe or recreate the contacts db on the phone via an attached PC?

• How do i transfer my contacts, messages, notes and calendars between my iphones?

How do i transfer my contacts, messages, notes and calendars between my iphones?

Hi,
Contacts, Notes and Calendars can be done through iCloud or iTunes.
Messages tend not to be transferable.
However If you have linked your iPhone Number with an Apple ID in Messages AND start from a  position of no message ("history", old Messages) on the phones then the iMessages service will sync subsequent iMessages  (only the iMessages)
iMessages are the ones that go to other iPhones, or iPads or some iPod Touches or the Messages beta on some Lion computers.
Plain SMS messages to other type of Phone or apps are not synced.

We have three iPhones but one Apple ID because I pay for the acct whenever we buy Apps or music.  However, it's frustrating that when we share iCloud it merges our notes and contacts even if we say "DO NOT MERGE."  I've also lost my notes but could not recover them even if I did a restore.

You can share the same iTunes ID on all your devices and still have different iCloud accounts with different IDs on them.  The ID you use for iTunes does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.
If you want to migrate your devices to separate accounts, on the devices that will be moving save any photo stream photos to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.  Also email any synced notes to yourself so you can recreate them in the new account.  Finally, if you are syncing any iWork documents with iCloud, go to the iWork app settings and turn off iCloud syncing.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.
Once the phones are all on separate accounts you can  then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want from each account.

Hello evanfromvic
If you have a back up in iTunes, you can restore from that back up. The article below will assist with getting that backup restored.

• Sync Error Message: "iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone...."

This just started today:
"iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone "My Phone" because an error occured while merging data"
Info:
I'm running iTunes 9 and 4.0.1 on my iPhone which is a 3GS. They sync with Google Contacts. I did just install a group contact app called ABCLite (fyi, have no idea if this is related).
I use my contacts a LOT on both the phone and the computer so I really need them to sync! Help!!!
Jenn

Hi,
same here - or similar: Installed latest iOS4 and only group in my contacts comes up.
Data do not seem to be lost (phew:-) because when I ring a number, the phone still displays who it is, so the data are there somewhere.
Any help much appreciated.

• Exchange notes and contacts not working on yosemite

After installing yosemite my contacts and notes are not working, I click on them to be incuded and it automatically unclicks them. Please help

You can tell what account they are in by opening Contacts, tapping Groups, then selecting your non-iCloud groups one at a time to see the contacts that belong to each non-iCloud account.
Let's assume that they are scattered across multiple iCloud accounts as you stated.  To get them all in iCloud, do the following:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (they will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup to your phone.  (You'll need to get the "Pro" version if you have more than 500 contacts that you need to copy to iCloud.)  Use this to backup the remaining contacts on your phone (from the other accounts) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section), set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap each of the other accounts that you are syncing contacts with (such as Gmail) and turn off contacts syncing.  This will prevent having duplicates when you re-import them from the backup your made earlier.
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the other accounts back to your phone.  They should be in iCloud, and as a result, will sync to your other devices.

• TS1702 Disappearing notes and contacts

My current problem is that I have lost 3 notes from my notepad that I use daily to keep records and lists. One of these records was important and it has simply disappeared. Everyone in my home insists they did not delete them. I have iCloud turned off for this app, but it still updates to the two iPads in my home. So I can't recover my list from those. I'm thinking of hooking it up to my iMac and trying to recover them from my last sync, but Im not sure if I should.
I have also lost contact information in the past. The contact either disappears entirely, or a new one gets added in without the information I put in for the original contact. I also have iCloud turned off for contacts.
I have updated my iPhone to ios6 recently.
did you ask here for some advice on how to back up? we would advise you not to make back-up into your memory card but through PC suite or Ovi Suite.
No, I didn't. The website clearly stated that I can make a backup to memory card, so that's exactly what I did. I have no Microsoft Windows, nor Mac. I went to a Nokia service point and asked them to upgrade the firmware.
is your memory card from Nokia? if not, that's why the back-up failed.
I don't remember as it is 2 years ago that I purchased the phone, including the memory card, in the same Nokia shop where I did the 'upgrade'. Never had any problems with the card though, and loaded already tons of documents, recordings and pictures on the card, and yes, there is enough space left for a backup. Also, I am able to load the backup file to my laptop, open it in a hex editor and actually partially see the content of some SMS messages, so the backup itself seems to have succeeded. Also there were no error messages indicating any problem. Also, your answer implies that the notes and contacts *should* have been saved on the card, although they are not retrieved during 'recovery' of the backup, so there is still hope for recovery I think, as I still have the backup file. Actually, the shop had a problem upgrading the software. They reported to me that the upgrade failed at the end of uploading it to the phone, so they put back v6.14.something. Might that be one of the possible reasons the recovery of the backup has failed? Or are pple @ Nokia really so d*mb that they didn't include backing up the contacts and notes, assuming that 'everybody nowadays has microsoft windows', which simply isn't true and an unfair assumption, as backups and recoveries from it should be possible without having to purchase equipment and programs from third parties.

• ITunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because an error occurred

When I connect my iPhone to my iMac (OSX version 10.6.6), and open iTunes and select "sync" - everything syncs (my Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, books, Photos and Calendars). However, I get an error message popping up saying: "iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because an error occurred while merging data".
I have unchecked the contacts button in iTunes and then sync works fine.
I have deleted all my contact in my Address Book on my iMac and tried to sync. Again, same error message as above.
I have not tried to restore the iPhone as I am worried to loose my contacts saved on my iPhone.
Who know how to solve this problem? Thanks

Hi Charlotte
I had the same problem for one year now and it affected my contacts, then later my calendar.
I followed the Apple troubleshooting guides and finally managed to make it work again.
First try the following guide:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting contact and calendar syncing via USB on Window
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1692
For me I noticed that after I updated ITunes to latest version (using the full uninstall from the last point of the guide above, section "Reinstall Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes"), I could sync with another Windows user account (on another computer actually)
Since I wanted my own account to sync again, I then used the advanced troubleshooting guide:
Advanced troubleshooting for Sync Services on Windows with Microsoft Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2010
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2776
In my case the point 4 in this guide helped, but since I had no MobileMe, I just killed the OS process SyncServer.exe, then renamed the SyncServices folder to SyncServices.old and restarted the PC.
You should try all the steps in both guides in the order mentioned, to see which one can help, I don't advise you to start directly with a step in a guide
Good luck

• Why have my notes and contacts been deleted and my applications won't launch

I tried using my iPad mini today but both my notes and contacts have been deleted and my applications either won't launch at all or launch for a few minutes and then shutdown. I also tried to download another app which said had been downloaded but I couldn't find it anywhere, the same thing happened with another app I downloaded. It was working fine yesterday and I haven't updated it or done anything out of the ordinary since then. What's wrong?

There are some simple troubleshooting steps you can take.
Be sure you drive is not overly full. Rule of thumb would be over 85%.
Create a new User go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair this with the The 10.6.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
