Are N97 Owners being "Blagged"?I

I think i really am at the end of my tether.
Having had four replacement N97's i was kind of hoping that v.20 may be the saving grace,in allowing me to own a phone that works.
Nokia knew that certain "Sites" were running countdown's, towards the official launch of v.20.To the best of my knowledge,Nokia made no attempt to refute or deny this.
Surprise, surprise, the software, was "Pulled", and everyone is in the dark.
The N97 should never have been released in it's current guise,v.20 should have been the standard, yet Nokia remain tight lipped, refusing to confirm the official release date.
Nokia know full well, that this software, may settle a lot of owners, but evidently give not one toss, about us consumers.
I wish i had never got my N97, but am stuck with it.
I will never, never, buy a Nokia phone again.

I agree with gnytemare in wishing you good luck. Unlike gnytemare I won't decide what the "...nature of what this site SHOULD be...". In this context, I'll just quote what it says at the top of the Nokia Support Discussions page "These boards are primarily for user-to-user interaction". So thanks for the user interaction, OP.
Like many others, I sympathise with your feelings. After all the discussions surrounding the technical deficiencies with the N97, my lasting dissatisfaction is with Nokia, the company.
I've paid my £500 for the phone too, and I'm fortunate not to have had to return it 4 times, as many others have had to. So I'm living with it. Ok, I'm too scared to use the camera in case I scratch the lens. And I can't trust the GPS (if I watch the screen too much while I'm driving, to make sure I compensate for thge "lag", I'll probably drive off the road). But I've bought an external bluetooth GPS, which works fine. So that's ok then, isn't it?
I've had my N97 since the UK launch day, June 26th, and it's never worked properly. But it's adequate (verging on poor, considering the price tag).

Nice words. So what exactly has Nokia actually said? They've not said anything to me. Have they said anything to you, OP? This is the source of many people's frustration - they've not actually siad anything to their customers.
Delboyg informed us that "...Nokia have admitted the problems with the scratched camera lens and GPS antenna, to there credit they are offering to fix those issues". Really? They've not admitted anything to me, or offered me anything. Where exactly is this admission and offer?
I HAVE seen, in a forum somewhere, an alleged discussion, or something similar, where Nokia is reported to have said something of this kind to a member of that forum. Has there been a public statement somewhere by Nokia, which I've missed? Please let me know where I can find it, as I'd like to print it off so that I can take it into a Nokia Care Point / Centre, or whatever, and claim my free repair.
Oh no wait, I already did that. I went into the (claimed) Nokia Care Centre in Solihull, where I was refused access to any of the "engineers". A shop salesman spoke to them (by telephone) on my behalf about these 2 well known N97 faults. This Nokia "admission" was news to them, and I had to explain to them, via the salesman on the phone , what the claimed remedy for these 2 faults was, as reported in that other forum. Then the salesman was kind enough to print off for me, the form on the supportarea of the Nokia website. He also invited me to post the phone to Nokia at Thetford for their attention, as any non-cosmetic repairs were beyond their abilities.
And so it goes on...
Since all my recent experiences with Nokia / Ovi involving their hardware, software, websites, and now customer support, have been ineffectual, frustrating, and stressful, I find it difficult to do anything other than sympathise and agree with the OP.
Gnytemare further informed us that "...Apple, Blackberry and possibly ALL the other smartphones have been through the same troubles.....their approach may be different, but they still have the same probs.". Really? Is that supposed to excuse Nokia for this N97?
I've had my N95 since Nov 2006. Function by function, the N97 doesn't really do anything the N95 doesn't already do. It just does it all more easily, or attempts to. Nokia have had 3 years to develop the N95 into the N97. The others quoted by gnytemare have been playing catchup. There's no excuse for this poor performance by Nokia. And even less excuse for them, like Horation Nelson, to place their telescope to their blind eye and say "Ships? I see no ships.", or "Defects? I see no defects".
It's taken 3 1/2 months for them to (allegedly) admit any defects.
Are they really that stupid? Or that clever?

  • I have two albums (RCA Sweeny Todd 2 discs set and RCA Into the Woods 1 disc) where the songs are listed as being on the same album on the list view, but do not group together on the iPod, so the songs can't play consecutively, or in the proper order.

    UPDATE: This behavior (to an extent) still happens when "Repeat Album" is off. Instead of an infinite loop, it goes through all the tracks on the album (unsuccessfully) and kicks me out to the Album overview screen. Going back to list of Albums and tapping the Album again brings up "No Content: You can download music from the iTunes Store" but that screen immediately kicks me back to list of Albums.
    So I am just even more confused now.

  • Purchases made on my ipod touch are no longer being transferred to the Mac...but yet they are showing up in "grey" in the purchased list on the Mac.  Any clues as to what is going on?

    What used to work just fine, is no longer working...
    Within the last 2 days, song purchases that were made on my ipod Touch are no longer being transferred when the ipod synchs up.  The strange thing is that the songs appear in iTunes --> Store -- Purchased list, but are greyed out.  They play just fine on the ipod...but aren't making it back to the Mac.
    I have tried right clicking on the ipod when it appears in iTunes and selecting "Transfer purchases", but that doesn't seem to work either.
    Any clues as to what is going on?

    One other very important piece of information I forgot to include...the purchases were made prior the iOS update.  So the sequence of events went like this:
    1) ipod Touch with previous iOS (4.0 I think)
    2) purchases made
    3) ipod connected and iTunes prompts for iOS update
    4) iOS upgraded to 5.0
    5) Now the purchases seem to be stranded on the ipod Touch

    OK - here is what I've done in the past.  As I want to be able to save my photos on  a DVD that can be read by both a PC and a Mac, I am burning them in Finder.  I start by downloading into IPhoto.  I'll flag and edit the ones I want to print or post to the web.  After that I want to take all the keepers and move them from IPhoto to various files I create in the document  section of Finder.  I've done it both ways in the past, copy and paste or just drag over, all the files would transfer over.  Now there may be dozens of pictures that do not move over - very random, in one case there were only 6 photos and the 3 vertical ones did not copy over.
    I'm wondering if this is a software issue or if there is just too much data being moved around.  FYI there are 2 Nikon cameras I use and the files from both do this.

    Open Activity monitor in Utilities, go to the CPU tab>All Processes, and note any process that would appear to be related to importing photos, such as iPhoto, and use Force Quit. This may only be a temporary fix, as it may start all over again when you reboot. If that happens, we need to do some more investigating.
    Also, close all open Applications, then open Terminal in Utilities and copy/paste and hit return, then post the output of this command.
    lsof -l +L -R -V | grep /

    Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    From your post, I cannot quite tell if you did all of this, in exactly this way. Hence, with a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
    KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
    KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
    If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
    KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
    With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
    See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.

  • ISE 1.3 MyDevices Portal issue: You are not owner of this device

    Hello there,
    I'm facing an issue with MyDevices portal. 
    The BYOD On-Boarding registration works pretty good, and the users get access to the network as they have to do.
    However, when the user accesses the MyDevices portal, some registered devices (which already have access to the network) is showed as in "Pending" state. But it I dont think it could not be an issue because the users can connect any time and get access to the network normally.
    The problem is: when the user tries to edit or change the state of the device (mark as Lost, Stolen or Delete), they get the error message "You are not owner of this device; it belongs to someone els. Contact the help desk if you need assistance".
    P.S.: the users are allways facing this error message, despite the device is in pending or registered state.
    Does someone has faced a problem like this, or have an idea to help me solve it?

    I've tried to reproduce the problem in my lab environment, however every thing have worked perfectely. So I'm guessing if this issue is not regarding the ISE implemented in a Distributed Deployment. Because the real implementation I'm working is a Distribuited Deployment and the LAB I tested is a Standalone.
    So, for the next steps I'll replicate the tests to a Distributede deployment.

    Yes. If your default account for notes is Yahoo, they should be saved somewhere in yahoo. Usually I think it's just a folder titled "notes". At least that's how my gmail is.

    I am facing the below error very frequently which is causing the disabling the "Enable connects"on the respective application. It is not happening for all the scheduled processes, just BETWEEN the last cube build or first cube build of the day.
    In Essbase.log server logs observered as below:

    Is it possible that you've issued the command: alter application disable connects ;
    That would cause MaxL to send back that message.
    Per the docs:
    Prevent any user with a permission lower than Application Managers from making connections to the databases that require the databases to be started. This includes starting the databases or performing the ESSCMD SELECT command on the databases.     Is it possible that you issue that command and then try to do things with a username that doesn't have App Manager or higher rights?
