Are older crash logs saved someplace?

My older model MacBook Pro has been crashing quite frequently (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo runming OS X 10.6.8).
I took it into the Apple store today and they said the culprit is my failing hard drive.  It's not my original hard drive as I had a larger one installed some time ago.  I did not have it installed at an Apple store but rather at an authorized third party store.
The Genius Bar employtee today told me that if it's within a year of purchase, that third party store will most likely replace it under warranty.  Unfortunately I am not currently in the city where this store is but I will call them today to see when it was that I purchased the drive.  If it's been over a year, I want to tell them that these crashes did not start today but several months ago.  Hopefully with that evidence, we can go by the date of the first crashes as opposed to today's date as perhaps that will fall within the 12 month rule.
However, when I look in the CrashReporter or DiagnosticReport folders in the Library and Logs folders, I'm only finding the most recent crashes.  Are older crashed saved and accessable someplace else?
Thank you!!

The /LIbrary/Logs/CrashReporter logs will be removed from the filesystem after 60 days if periodic daily runs. I'm not sure what manages the DiagnosticReports logs- more than likely the app that generates the reports. Your own Library/Logs folder might contain some info.

Were are the "error Logs" saved to.  My Lookout 6.0 system crashed last night for no appearent reason, other than the building A/C unit went out and the room became very hot.  The PC that is running Lookout was still operating and the call-out system running on it notified me that Lookout was down.  I started the system back up with no problems.

    Hello,
The only place where you can see what happen would be in the Event Viewer from your Windows computer.  Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and you will see in there the Event Viewers.  Hope this helps

If photos are saved they go to the Camera Roll in the Photos App.

  • Are crash logs copied back to iPhone during a Restore?

Are the crash logs that are copied to Itunes when you sync your iPhone copied back to the phone during a restore?
I was restoring my iPhone 5S as new and could swear some old crash logs were put back onto it.

Select the ones you want again via the apps tab when your phone is plugged in.

  • Are crash logs frequent with 1.1.4 firmware?

Every time I sync with iTunes (Mac), it downloads a number of crash logs. Most involve a process called "mediaserverd" and look like this, followed by a list of active processes:
    Incident Identifier: B6086C0C-EAD2-44AF-8360-87C9A0F0879E
    CrashReporter Key: 9400c58c24a430271f8cb30b0ac5a95f4e3994ec

    26066944 bytes wired
    Memory status: 33
    About to jettison: mediaserverd
Has anyone else seen something like this? Is this normal? I just restored my iPhone to 1.1.4 firmware about 2 days ago, so I don't think a restore will fix this.

    odysseus,
The first time you synced an iPhone that contained crash logs with your computer, you were asked if you would like to submit crash logs for that iPhone to Apple.
If you clicked "Yes" to that, the crash logs are not only synced to your computer, but also uploaded to Apple to be reviewed by our engineers.
    Hope this helps,

  • Adobe bridge crashes when saving illustrator files

    Hi there,
We are developing custom connector using Adobe Drive SDK for our DAM system, the integration with CS was working fine, we recently updated Adobe Drive to 4.2, and we are encountering bridge crashes when saving illustrator file. It didn't happen with older version(4.0.2) of Adobe Drive, not sure why. I pin point the part that causing the issue: in our custom connector, we have READ_XMP_METADATA capability which we need to display the thumbnails and previews, and in the ftp sample connector, this capablity is not included originally, so the issue does not happen, but if I add this capabilty, the crash issue happens as well. If we exclude this capablity from our connector, this crash issue doesn't happen.
We noticed this only happens when saving illustrator file, not photoshop or indesign, and it seems that only in illustrator, when save, and the bridge has the current file folder showing, we are seeing there are twice folder refreshes, and usually it will crash after the second time. In photoshop and indesign, we don't see folder refreshes. If switch to other folder, the crash won't happen. We tested on both windows and Mac, on Mac, this seems happen less often. Another thing we noticed is in debug mode, or we have many debug logging turned on, the crash happens less often, if it is deployed with no debug logging, the crash happens almost everytime. So we are guessing it might be some synchronization problem.
Could you please advice what's the cause of this issue?
    Thanks,
    Katherine

    Has it ever worked?
What kind of files are they and where do you save them?
Is a printer connected, set up and turned ON?
Have you already tried resetting the preferences?
Generally it's not a good idea to just save old files, because then some artwork may be automatically flattened. Illustrator will save the file to the old version file-format and if you used new features in-between, those cannot stay live in the old version file format.

  • WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT now crashing when saving new file

I have Microsoft Office 2004 WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT, which were working just fine for several days on 10.5.1. (all updates are current). Now, every time I try to save a new document, all 3 apps crash, with the following thing in common in the crash log:
    0xb80ec881 gettimeofday_wrapper + 37593
This doesn't happen when opening an existing file, and saving changes to it. Note: A few days ago, I ran Disk Utility to do a permissions repair for another issue - could this have caused this issue?
    Any ideas???

I just fixed my own issue, based on a posting I saw in one of the other discussions. I did the same thing, by downloading the standalone update and then installing. After the required restart, everything worked fine!!! It seems like there was definitely a problem with the version that was installed via Software Update.

  • FrameMaker crashes when saving a file as XML

    Hello -
I am encountering a problem saving a .fm file as a .xml file. I have saved many .fm files as .xml files in the past with no issues. However, lately FM crashes with a "serious error" on certain files when I try the same save process. My initial thought was that the file was somehow corrupted, but this morning I ran into this scenario: I have 3 FM licenses in my office, I was trying to save a .fm file as .xml and FM kept crashing. So I had another co-worker try to save the exact same file as a .xml file and it WORKED!?!?!?!
We all were using FM 11, but I have since installed FM 12 thinking that version 12 wouldnt have the same problem, but the same issue is happening with both versions of FM. I read that FM has issues when working across a network so I have tried it both ways, across the network and locally and the same issue occurs.
Again, this problem occurs occasionally on various files - not every file, but as previously mentioned I was able to successfully save a file on a different machine that I could not save on my machine. I have the most recent log file that was generated after a crash:
[*** LOG FILE REMOVED BY MODERATOR***]
Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

    An update -
So FM now appears to crash "sometimes" when saving as an xml file AND when saving the file in general. I have 3 machine with FramMaker installed, first with version 11 now with version 12. These 3 machines are all identical as far as SW running on them, etc... I have been unable to detect a pattern as to when FM will crash thus far. Sometimes it will crash when I try to save the file as an .xml file and sometimes it will save just fine. I have resorted to marking up the document a little at a time, saving the file, then trying to save as an XML file. It will work sometimes and other times it will crash. Sometimes it crashes when trying to save the .fm file other times it works; sometimes it will crash when I try to save the .fm file as a .xml file, other times it will work. About the only thing in common that I have found thus far is the fact that it happens with the same file over and over again; meaning that if I have a pool of 12 files that I need to load into FM and markup, 11 of the 12 files may work just fine and the 12 file will not - it will crash FM at some point in the markup/saving process every time. One might guess that the original file is somehow corrupt and that may be, but at this point I am not sure how I prove that is the case as FM seems to load it in just fine and I can save it right off the bat just fine. Does anyone know how I can prove that the structured file i receive initially is corrupt when it loads into FM fine? If we were causing some issue with the import of our modified EDD then why dont we have the same issue with the other 11 files in the batch as they all are using the same EDD?
I have sent my most recent log files to adobe tech support this morning. I have tried saving files on shared drives as well as on local drives. I have tried the same process on the other workstations with the same results.
Does anyone have ideas on how I can isolate a problem with the source file (structured doc) or on why FM is crashing when I perform these actions?
    Thanks,
    Gavin (Ryan)

  • How can I diagnose an intermittent crash when saving in Photoshop CS5 in Windows 7 (64bit)?

    Hello,
I have been experiencing an intermittent crash of Photoshop CS5 in Windows 7 when saving. I cannot effectively reproduce the problem and am having difficulty diagnosing the cause of the it. I have updated Photoshop to 12.0.4.0 and still experience the crash. Can someone offer advice as to how to resolve this issue? It is troublesome since I lose all my work without any means of recovery when it happens.
    Hardware:
    AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz
    8GB RAM
    AMD Radeon HD 5450
    Software:
Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)
    Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 x64
    Thanks in advance.

    Hunt,
Thanks for the advice. Here is what I have done so far which has not alleviated the crashes while saving:
Only run the application as administrator
    Clear the preferences file
Disabled virus checking on files I am using
Disabled virus checking on file writes (just in case the above was not enough)

  • MS Word Crashes after saving document

I'm using MS Office 2011. After upgrading my Macbook Pro to OS X 10.9.4, my Microsoft Word (version 14.4.3) crashes after saving a Word document. I've tried using Word in Safe Boot and the same crashing happens after two or three saves to the Word document I'm working on. I've also tried emptying the AutoRecovery folder, and moving the files "com.microsoft.Word.plist" and "Normal" to the desktop. All to no avail. Word still crashes after two or three saves to the document. Please help! It's so frustrating to lose the changes I'm making in a document due to Word crashing after saving.

First test in a new User to verify that Office is now working correctly in another User. Log into Guest User or create a new User in System Preferences.
If the problem goes away, the problem is in your User's account.
If the problem exists in the new User.... you need to reinstall Office.
Be sure to fully update after reinstalling.
Be sure you have your CD Key for activation.
Updaters have to be applied in order. Depending on what version installer you have, there are only two combo updaters that you might need.
(If you have an early installer you'll first need to update to 14.1.0)
Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Service Pack 1 (14.1.0)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17198
(Later installers installed 14.2 or higher.)
Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.4.3 Update (requires 14.1.0 or newer)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=43378
    Install Basics
Not only should Safari be quit but all browsers and hidden Microsoft processes like the Microsoft Database daemon and SyncServicesAgent. To disable these applications:
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
Log in and hold down the Shift key (this disables all startup items including the hidden ones)
Restart after installing 14.1.0 and again after installing 14.4.3
Note for the MAU and MERP updaters you do NOT have to restart after updating. These are found in the root Library:
    /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/
    Why Restart?
The Restart after updater will force a file that stores the version info to update. This should happen automatically but sometimes it doesn't. The next updater will fail and you will have to re-install Office. The restart is a quick step that will save time in the long term.

  • Submitting crash logs to Adobe?

I have a project I'm doing in Flash Pro CS6 and Flash Builder and FP has begun crashing rather frequently. The issue seems related to saving in Flash Builder. Anyway it's generated several bug reports, and it always says to submit them to Adobe, but I can't find a way to do so.
The bug report form here https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
    1. Hasn't worked for months (delivery failed)
    2. Doesn't have an attachment method

I posted a story about what happened when I called Adobe, and how incredibly stupid and incompetent the Adobe support person was, and that post was deleted. Is Adobe trying to censor me for pointing out their terrible technical support and the fact that their system is designed to prevent you from getting access to support?
There is a file submission form they will tell you to submit bugs at if you create a support ticket, but it only accepts image files and .txt files. The crash logs generated by Flash Pro are .mdmp dump files that can't be submitted on that form. The technical support representative told me to paste a crash log into Microsoft Paint and save it as a JPEG. No matter how many times I told her that didn't make any sense and didn't work, she kept insisting that was right until I demanded to speak to someone else.
For future reference, you have to call technical support and ask for the email address to actually submit a crash log.

  • Latest update, photoshop crashes when saving

Ever since the latest security update, my photoshop crashes when saving a file?? Usually 100% of the time, but on occasion it's OK with a really small file.(??)

    Hi Susanbombay,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The10.4.6 update changed the AFP specification. PhotoShop CS2 uses the older OS9 spec.Does this happen when you're saving to an AFP mounted volume?
There are a couple of ways to sort this out.
    1. save to your desktop and copy the files to the server.
    2. roll back the AFP version to the one used in 10.4.5.
(contact off forum & I'll send the files to you)

  • Applications crash when saving, opening, printing...

I am having a lot of trouble using Quark 7.3 on my Mac. When working from the server I open a file, work on it for a while, apple-S to save and it crashes - not saving where I'm up to. This happens with several files, some older than others which worked fine last week and some created today. Also happens when I go to print the file. Has also happened a few times when I open a file and put the cursor where I want to type and it crashes.
Sometimes a Quark file I open does not have the images brought in (grey box with error text in its place) and the text is jargon, extra spaces, words missing, etc.
Here is a small part of one of the bug reports:
    Command: QuarkXPress
    Path: /Applications/QuarkXPress 7.3/QuarkXPress.app/Contents/MacOS/QuarkXPress
    Parent: WindowServer [62]
    Version: 7.3.0 (7.3.0)
    PID: 238
    Thread: 0
    Exception: EXCBADINSTRUCTION (0x0002)
    Code[0]: 0x00000002
    Code[1]: 0x04540004
    Thread 0 Crashed:
    0 Xerces-c-xc 0x04540004 fgUniCharsTable + 46896
    1 com.quark.QuarkXPress 0x00199ce0 OEContent::DetachStory(unsigned char) + 212
This problem also occurs with Adobe Acrobat, when I arrow through the pdf document and it crashes - old and new documents.
Also, I have tried pulling the Quark document from the server and onto my Desktop and working on it from there - the problem still occurs and crashes. Have submitted reports to Quark & Apple with no response.
My mac/work is suffering the most, although my colleagues are also having similar crashing problems on occasion.
I am wasting a huge amount of time having to redo work. How can I rectify this problem? Is it memory? The server? Dodgy fonts/files? Please HELP!
Server holds approx 950GB, but has 70GB space.
My HD holds 76GB, and has 15GB space.

Your server is using more than 90% of its drive capacity, which can in itself, cause all kinds of problems. You might want to run Preferential Treatment to see if you have any corruption there, but your best solution will likely come from Quark.

  • Edge Crashes when saving

My project consistently crashes when I try to save
Ive had an 'Out of Memory' popup before but now it just crashes while saving.
Ive managed to copy the report I get, its here:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ue65x5lg638y6x6/Edge_Animate_crash.rtf
Is there anything in there thats glaringly obvious what Im doing wrong? Could I have too many elements/symbols? None of my file sizes are crazy big - all below 1MB.
    Many thanks
    Tom

    Thank you Elaine!
Ive saved the entire project here:
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gn449d30c0ltyjc/1zsKgalUK_
Please open Ipsos_top_cities_5.an This is the latest version that I was having problems saving - you'll see in the Archive folder some older versions if you wanted to look.
My theory is the problem stems from the complexity of my symbols. I have been creating symbols from loose elements whilst inside a parent symbol - Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I should be creating child symbols on the stage and then creating a parent symbol out of a collection of them.
In the meantime I have been creating all my symbols in separate project files with the idea that I will export them and place into my master project file when they are all complete.
If you have any other workflow do's and dont's that would be great!
    Thanks
    Tom
