Are Oracle going to build a Webutil library for ADF ?

Hi,
We have a customer who has a forms app that uses Webutil to interact with many things such as the registry, DLL's etc.
One obstacle we have in trying to sell a rewrite in ADF to them is the lack of Webutil-type functionality in ADF. If Oracle developed a Webutil library for ADF we would be able to sell the product much easier.
Do any of you Oracle guys know if it is on the cards ?
cheers

Hi,
Would you explain what "Forms is already on the page" mean? Thanks.
This means that if you want to integrate Forms with ADF and Forms is embedded as an Applet on an ADF page
BTW: There should be a mechanism that would allow ADF to have trusted access to client machines.
ADF has nothing to do with this. In general HTML based content cannot access the client desktop except for file uploads for security reasons. If browser vendors could agree on a standard that allows signed JavaScript to perform trusted client access then this could be solved. However, signed JavaScript is only supported by Netscape browsers and is not available anywhere else. In Java Applets, like Forms uses it, the Applet sources are signed - as there is a standard for this - allowing Java to access the client.
Webutil was a significant breakthrough for Forms.
Yes. It is a corner stone that bridged the functionality gap between client server and web based forms
I'm currently slogging through various ADF tutorials. the documentation is ALL OVER THE PLACE. I'm struggling with trying to find a way gain access to the current application instance that would give me access to active view objects. The ADF documentation is PAINFULLY opaque on this issue for this newbie.
Forms had 2 developer guides to the time we printed manuals (a basic introduction and an advanced manual). Adding the Graphics guide and the Reports guise, all in all the documentation was provided in 4 books. ADF and the related technologies are way more complex for a beginner, but once understood also more powerful than Forms. The main documentation - surprise surpise - is provided in 4 books. The ADF developer guide, the Web developer guide, the desktop integration guide and the mobile development guide. As a beginner, the first two guides is what you need - start with the ADF developer guide.

Related documentation, which is runtime specific, is then provided in the FMW documentation

  • CDs imported to iTunes are no longer showing up in my library

I imported several CDs to my iTunes library a while ago and it all worked fine, they showed up both on my computer and on my devices. Recently however, all of the songs I imported (over the course of several years) have disappeared. Any suggestions on where to find them? A lot of these are songs I listen to a lot and I don't know where all the CDs are since they've been in my library for so long so I would really like to have them back.

Are you going to ever get flash player for the iphone

If you are getting your hopes up because of Jobs' retirement, I wouldn't. The major problem is that Adobe is unable to get the crap they call Flash to work with iOS and his retirement isn't going to have any effect on making it better for Adboe.

  • I am trying to help my mother build her iTunes library.  I want to transfer files from my iTunes to hers.  I have tried HomeSharing, but the "Show/Import" menu buttons are nowhere to be seen on either of our computers.  We have PCs, not MacBooks.

I want to import some of my iTunes files to my mother's iTunes account so she doesn't have to pay again to get them.  We are going on a trip soon, and she wanted some movies to watch on here iPad.  Some of the movies, I already have.  I can't seem to do anything.  Homesharing has been useless, because while her iTunes can 'see' my iTunes and vice versa, the magic "Show" and more importantly the magic "Import" buttons are nowhere to be seen. How in the **** am I supposed to share my files if I can't import them to her library for her?  I have seen many solutions for people using iTunes on a MacBook, but we don't have MacBooks in our house.  I have a Samsung laptop and Mom has a Gateway laptop, and both operate on Windows 7.  Seriously.  This should not be impossible, but right now, it seems that way.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Will iTunes allow me to do this? I'm not really all that familiar with Windows computers. I have recently had to move to a PC because my $3000 macBook Pro died one month after the warranty was up. How could I get iTunes to accept media from another computer?

  • When slides are updated within a MS Sharepoint slide library, how can you force an alert with the updated slide version going to users who have previous slide versions on their hard drive?

How can you hardcode/force that when a slide within a slide library (in Sharepoint 2010) is updated, that an alert is sent to the user who downloaded the slide to their hard drive so that they may replace the outdated slide with the recently
updated slide. There is a tic box option to set when downloading slides from a sharepoint slide library into power point that ensures alerts are sent when the presentation is opened allowing for replacement of the slide. But, it is an option. How can that
be hardcoded are forced on all slide library users who download slides from the shrepoint library into power point? Is there a workflow that can be written in Sharepoint or an option in power point to do this? Please advise. Thanks.

    Two things to check:
Add the network folder location as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings and then see if the videos will play.
If the first suggestion doesn't work, get in touch with your network admin dudes and find out if FLV files are disabled from working over the network from that location.  Many times unless a given file format is enabled on a network, the server assumes it's not desirable and won't serve it.

  • Designer Vs. Oracle Data warehouse builder

    Dear all,
Currently I'm responsible of building a Data warehousing project using Oracle database. I'm trying to decide on a tool for modelling my datawarehouse. I have two options:
    1) Designer: we have some experience with this tool and we are using it for our main OLTP application.
    2) Oracle Data Warehouse builder: we are using this to design our ETL processes.
I want to get some advice on whether the OWB is capable of modelling my datawarehouse and of doing a retrofit action. also, I try to standardize on the tools that are using in the Data Warehouse department (currently we are using only OWB).
I will appreciate for any other advice to help in my selection process.
    Best Regards,
    Bilal

    Hi,
In my experience this choice depends on the implementation of the datawarehouse. If you are building a "pure" Kimball style dimensional data warehouse you should be able to do this using OWB. I have architected such a DW in the past using only OWB, so I am speaking from experience.
If on the other hand you are planning to implement an Inmon style CIF, if your requirements includes an operational data store (ODS), or if you for any other reason anticipate that you are going to be doing a lot of ER modeling, then I would not recommend using the current release of OWB for modelling. (Note however that there are significant improvements to the modelling capabilities in the Paris release of OWB, so this may change in the future)
The advantage of improved maintainability when using a single tools needs to be weighted against the improved functionality if you choose a combination of the two. In the "two tool" scenario strict development and deployment routines need to be enforced to avoid that the model in Designer comes out of sync with the metadata in OWB. (Consider the effect of a developer making a change to a table definition in OWB and deploying it directly to the database without updating the model in Designer.)
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder or Oracle Template Builder

HI - can anyone confirm if Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder is going to be the replacement for the Oracle Template Builder? I've been using the template builder quite successfully over the past couple of weeks, and I thought I would give the assembly builder a go, and my impression is that it is utter rubbish.
It doesn't have even half of the functionality of the old template builder, and if Oracle are going to use this as the only template deployment tool for Oracle VM it would be a huge dissapointment.
    Edited by: 858127 on May 11, 2011 5:38 AM

The Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder (OVAB) product is not a replacement for the Oracle Template Builder (OTB) tool. They both have different purposes.
OTB can be used to create a VM template with any arbitrary set of packages you want installed along with the linux distribution. But, once you create a VM instance from that template, you have to manually configure the contents of that template.
Alternatively, OVAB creates a specialized VM template that is constructed and configured to run a single instance of a particular product component that you have selected to be packaged into that appliance. Currently the list of supported products include WebLogic Server, Coherence, HTTP Server, and Database. The differentiation between OVAB and OTB is that as part of creating the VM template, OVAB extracts properties specific to the product that's packaged into that template, and then allows for those properties to be dynamically specified and automatically configured when that VM template is instantiated.
So OVAB and OTB are created with different uses in mind. OVAB is specialized for creating appliances containing specific products, while OTB is intended for creating VM templates containing arbitrary s/w packages.

  • How to build a shared library (dll) of a VI to be called by VC++

    hi All,
How should I build a shared library ( dll ) using LabVIEW so that the desired output from LabVIEW can be returned to the main program that runs in VC++ ?
I'm currently working in a project that uses the PXI 1042 & DMM, AWG, FGEN, SCOPE, RFSG, RFSA etc.
The VC++ programmers dont want the LabVIEW front-end to be visible when called into VC++, in the sense they don't want LV to be another front-end, as the entire software is designed using VC++. It is enough if I simply pass the final values of measurement to them for display purpose.
So, they've asked me if it is possible in LabVIEW to provide the VIs as dlls instead of exes.
Since I've seen the feasibility of building a EXE or a DLL in LV, I've replied positively to them.
In another of my project, I'm using dlls built in VC++ for hardware drive interaction parts in my LabVIEW project.
Likewise, what are the methodologies that I should follow when building a Dll in LV ?
I tried with a simple VI, wherein it returns a value of addtion of 2 elements & I passed it thro' the connector pane correctly.
When I called the same dll in LV itself & configured it correctly by specifying the correct return type & I/O, then also it did not run properly.
I could not understand what was going.
So experts pls help me out by some simple examples or related links.
    Regards & Thanks,
    Partha.

I am trying to move my library and playlists to a new computer by burning to CD's. However, I followed the directions by going to File and then Library - then they said to go to burn CD(s) - I DO NOT have that option for some reason. How do I do this? I have done the library sharing thing but I am getting rid of my primary computer and am afraid I will lose the library.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

  • Upgrading to iPhoto '08 - what's going wrong with my iphoto Library

    Hi,
I would appreciate your advice/knowledge on this problem.
==> Short Description of my problem:
I can't recover the keywords associated with my pictures. I am asked to import my pictures although I choose to open my previous iPhoto Library after converting to iPhoto 08.
    ==> What I did:
    1. I recently upgraded my mac to Leopard, and then to iPhoto'08. When opening for the 1st time iPhoto '08, I selected my iPhoto Library (as I held the option key while opening iPhoto).
    2. I then get the message: “The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library.” I clicked on the "Upgrade" button
    3. My Mac then loaded/created ALL my previous albums and smart albums (including the most recent ones). It loaded pictures up to April 2005. BUT then, it prompted me with the following message : "5584 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that are not a part of this photo library. Would you like to import them?". I was surprised to get this message, as I read that the upgrade should run smoothly.
    4. I made two tests, following this prompt. First, I answered "YES". I ended with a 24.5 GB iPhoto Library (instead of my previous 12.64 GB library). Then, while repeating steps 2&3, I answered No. I then decided to import manually my missing pictures, and ended up with a 14,4 GB (surprisingly, I got events called originals that contained same pictures than other created events). I have repeated the steps 2 to 4 from a new user account, but got the same results.
    5. None of these solutions are satisfactory as I had assigned keywords to my 5000+ photo. What is going wrong? Here is the content of my iPhoto Library (before conversion), if this is of any help:
In my iPhoto Library Oct 23, 2007:
    folder 2000 Oct 18, 2007
    folder 2004 Feb 13, 2005
    folder 2005 Jan 29, 2006
    folder 2006 Jan 7, 2007
    folder 2007 Oct 23, 2007
    AlbumData.xml Apr 17, 2005
    folder Album Nov 11, 2007
    Dir.data Apr 9, 2005
iPod Photo cache Nov 11, 2006
    iPhoto.db Apr 17, 2005
    Library.iPhoto Apr 9, 2005
    Thumb32.data Apr 9, 2005
    Thumb64.data Apr 9, 2005
    ThumbJPG Apr 9, 2005
This library is an external-drive backup copy of my HD photo library (that no longer exists).
    ==> What to do next?
    1. How to check if my keywords information is still present in my original iPhoto library? Is there any solution to get back my photo with their keywords?
    2. Manage my iPhoto library with a smaller quantity of pictures, to ease backup and conversion. I have understood that iPhoto Libray Manager is a convenient free software to merge/de-merge libraries. Is that correct?
    Thanks for your help,
    Nicolas

    NicoSou
This sounds to me like your v5 library is corrupted.
Try using the rebuild command from iPhoto Library Manager to recreate the library - it won't get everything, but should get albums and keywords. Read the iPhoto Library Manager Help for more details.

  • ITunes keeps creating a new iTunes Library instead of going to my actual iTunes Library on my external drive.

    My old computer died.
Luckily, my iTunes library is stored on an external drive.
My new machine is Windows 8 and my old machine was Vista, but I don't think that should cause any problem.
When I run iTunes, it comes up like a fresh install on a new machine... every time. By default, it creates an iTunes folder in my local drive and as such, has no music in and is a 100% blank slate.
When I point it to my external drive, and then import the library, it does it. All my music shows up -- after a long time, but it all shows up.
If I shut down iTunes or reboot, everything goes back to zero again.
The most disturbing thing about this is that I can't back up properly, because -- although in Preferences it's pointed at my external drive -- it's backing up my iPhone 5 to the local drive in Windows.
Any idea what's going on here?
I've gone through this process 5 times already and it's always the same.

There are two main components to the iTunes library. The media folder which you can adjust via Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and the database file iTunes Library.itl which is normally found in <User's Music>\iTunes. You can choose or create a new iTunes library by holding down shift as you launch iTunes.
In some cases third party software can interfere with the way iTunes updates its files meaning that either iTunes forgets the previously chosen location, or that the active database is deleted. AVG anti-virus and Sony VIAO Entertainment Platform typically interfere with the database. McAfee has been implicated in the corruption of iTunesPrefs.plist.
See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for more details on how you might recover after the library vanishes.
You may get some improvment by hosting your entire library on the external drive not just the media. E.g. Create a library at X:\iTunes where X: is the drive letter, then move the media into X:\iTunes\iTunes Media before adding it to the library. This will make it easier to backup the library to a second drive and move it between computers when the time comes.

  • What is the best way to re-build an iphoto library with 10,000+ images?

The iphoto built in library rebuild function does not find the 10,000 photos that are in my originals and data folders. Why not? Also, If I use the Fat Cat software to build a new library will it it create 10,000 new files?
I eventually want to remove these files from my computer all together, but I want to organize them first.
These photos used to be in iphoto, but when I upgraded to Mountain Lion my iphoto library kind of emptied itself.
Honestly, I would skip putting these 10,000 photos back into iphoto and simply put them on an external if finding the files in the iphoto library "folder" wasn't so complicated. It's not nesessary for me to store all of my photos on my laptop hard drive, but I'm an artists and a documentor so i would like to keep them.
Thanks for any and all advice!!!
I've been reading lots of threads on here and the information is soooo good and helpful. At least now I have some idea of how iphoto works where a few days ago it felt like magic!

    Yes, move them:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Do you think iphoto's normal rebuild function might work when I'm telling it to look for my externally located library?
Impossible to say, but worth a try. If not then:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

    TD
