Are Orange UK supplied iPads sim locked?

Basically, as the subject says, I am looking to get an iPad from Orange UK on contract, but I want to know if they are sim locked?
I have asked in the store and they don't seem to know, can anyone enlighten me?
Cheers

I don't know if Orange contract iPads are locked or not, but I would like to know as well. I don't know whether to get my iPad from Orange on a contract, or to buy it outright and get a cheaper data plan.
I did ask at the 3 Store about their contract iPads. I was told that their iPads are locked to 3 within the UK and won't accept other UK networks' SIM cards, but that they will accept foreign SIM cards when used abroad. I thought that sounded strange, but the store manager got their training manual out and that's the info they were given. Is that even possible?

  • Why won't Orange activate my iPad SIM

I ordered an iPad 2 3G with an Orange SIM card from the Apple Online Store. I've called Orange customer support line 3 times now as instructed by the book that came with the SIM card . Each time they have told me they can't do this and that Apple has to do it. I've called Apple and they say that they never do this and that it is up to Orange to activate my SIM. The Orange booklet that came with the SIM card does not mention calling Apple, only calling Orange.
I just want to pay someone some money to get 3G data on my iPad!

  • HT201328 Phone legit. Unlocked through Orange, email received but yet still says SIM LOCKED

    Hi all,
As the title states, I legitamtely asked for my phone (4S) to be unlocked, of which I received the e-mail from orange/EE stating:-
    Procedure
1)Insert a non-Orange 3G SIM card. This must be a network provider who also supplies the iphone/ipad.
    2)Switch ON the handset.
3)Connect to iTunes using USB cable
4)Use the “restore” option within iTunes (located at the bottom of iTunes not the top)
5)The handset may then display: USB cable and iTunes icon.
    6)Disconnect from USB then re-connect
    7)Synchronise device with iTunes
8)Once synchronised a message will appear on iTunes stating “Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked” If using IOS5 this message will not show
9)Follow on screen set up instructions to enable new carrier settings
I followed this procedure to the letter but yet it still states the SIM is locked - The phone has never been Jailbroken or illegally unlocked etc.
    Any help much appreciated.
    TIA
    Hitch.

Thanks for the replies so far,
It's really grinding me down as I have just moved countries from the UK and recieved the e-mail from EE nearly 30 days ago so I would have thought the process would have been complete by now.
My internet connection is not great and I cannot ring orange/EE due to SIM still not working.
Really starting to annoy me, I will defo not be returning to Orange upon my eventual return to the UK!
    TIA
    Hitch.

  • Is my ipad 2 locked after putting in a sim card

Bought an ipad 2 from apple and last year put in a ee sim pay as you go. Now want to sell the ipad  will it be locked now

If you mean locked to EE then no. iPads  are not and should not get locked to a carrier.
If you mean Activation locked then if you have iOS 7 yes.

  • What are the 'sim lock' laws? Seriously.

I really can't find any up-to-date info on the sim lock laws or if there are any. Supposedly late last year there was a law put into place where service providers are required to give you the unlock code if requested.
AT&T did this for me without hesitation but Verizon basically told me to bugger off. I thought it was due to my not having a contract but they just kept claiming that they either didn't know what I was on about or that they were not able to find the information or that they just didn't have the ability to do it. I just want to be able to call them and quote something real of what the law says. My understanding (confirmed by AT&T rep) is each service provider can supply unlock codes for ONLY their branded phones, but everyone is reqiured to do so when asked. I thought.

Nah, you thought wrong, sorry. At least there is no federal law in the US to that effect, perhaps some one or two states have passed something like that although I don't remember it -- and I do sorta keep up with stuff like this.
Anyway. Correct, a carrier 'may' give you the unlock code for a device bought from them. If they want to. If you have service with them. If your account is in good standing. If you've been a customer for 90 days. Different carriers in the US have different polices, the above is/was ATT's and Tmobile's.
Verizon has in the past provided unlock codes to customers of good standing and if asked, when buying a device at full price, off-contract. I don't think that has changed.
If you need a device unlocked inexpensively from a reputable vendor, I'll recommend BlackBerry Unlocks to you. I'll vouch for them, and I think you'll be pleased.

  • 3 Sim lock in the UK with orange SIM?

I have bought my iphone 4 with Hutchinson ( 3 ) in the UK a few months ago as SIM locked. Now it turns out it is working with my orange UK SIM. Is that normal, does the 3 SIM lock include orange or did they give me an unlocked phone by accident?

    Thanks for that

  • How do I know if my iPad is locked to a carrier .  We had a three sim in it but want to sell without the sim and have been asked if it is locked to a carrier.

How do I know if my iPad is locked to a carrier. I bought it from apple and bought a three sim. I've taken it out and I'm selling iPad cause I have new ipad2. Does this mean the old one is locked to three network or will any micro sim work .

Thanks for reply.  I bought it from apple store and bought sim off them just as pay as you go, not on a pay monthly plan.  Haven't used it since it ran out, only use wi fi but because I'm selling the old one somebody has asked if its locked, I just thought somebody might be able to tell me but thanks anyway.

  • IPad sim card locked and I can't unlock my own device after I had to restore it to factory settings, due to technical issues.

I recently restored my iPad to its factory settings, and upon restart the iPad sim card was locked and the device was asking for a PUK code. I have no idea what to do next. Can someone please help me? I've had my iPad for over 3 years now, and I am lost! I am sure I can figure this out without having to call any service provider, because the iPad should work on just wifi alone, I never had it set up for 3G even though it is an available option on my device.
Thank you to anyone who can help!

All you can do is connect the iPod to a computer and try to get the music off using a third-party program like the free iFunBox. However, if the iPod's screen says disable or when you connect the iPod to a computer with iTunes it asks for the passcode to be entered on the iPod and you can't do that you will not be able to get anything off the iPod unless a data recovery company can do that.

Since this is a carrier issue, we are probably not going to be able to help you. You are paying for this service, so be assertive when you call customer service.

My iPad is locked on O2 as it says this on the about bit in setting. I tried putting my O2 SIM card in my iPad but it says SIM card not valid. I got this iPad 4 second hand from a friend. I don't know why my iPad won't accept this sim as this is the Carrier for this iPad. Could someone possibly help me.

  • Are ipad 4 locked

ist the ipad 4 locked or can I buy an att ipad and change sim to a verizon and use it

You will need to try to restore your iDevice from the same computer that you most recently synced to.
    Read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If you can't do the restore then you will need to try Recovery Mode.

I am planning to buy ipad 2 wifi   3g verizon carrier, will be taking it to india need to know if the same can be used with the local providers there or would the ipad be locked and restricted only to verizon

I'm fairly sure the Verizon CDMA iPad 2 had no GSM sim slot. So it won't work with any other carrier except Verizon.
As far as the AT&T version goes, it should technically work but will not support 4G/LTE cellular bands.
Given iPad 2's are no longer being sold, I doubt any  that could be bought would have a warranty still. Or have at most very little of it left.
Why an iPad 2?  its now 3 generations behind the current one.
Perhaps an iPad 4 would be a better choice.

  • Ipad auto lock

Why doesn't my ipad auto lock when using some apps?

Some apps work in both landscape and portrait mode, so requires using the iPad side switch to lock to that orientation. If this is what you mean, as you have given little info to what you ate experiencing.
If you are using the iPad side switch to lock to the page orientation and this does not work, you need to go into settings tap general and then tap Lock rotation. When you cihoose Lock Rotation, toggle the screen-rotation switch on the side of the iPad to expose the orange dot, and your iPad will stay in either landscape or portrait.

  • UK SIM locked?

Is this product sim locked in the UK If i was to buy from Amazon or Nokia direct? Or am I free to put any worldwide data sim into it?
Because in the US if you buy it full price without a contract its locked to the AT&T network!!!!
And not all US ones have been successfully unlocked.
    TIA

Ok, I'm not a specialist on this subject, it is all rather confusing, but after some digging, this is what I have ascertained.
The US Best Buy version of the Nokia Booklet appears to come with an Option GTM382W, which as listed by the sites covers: Built-in 3G modem (data calls only): WCDMA 850/1900/2100
The UK version, based upon the Nokia's website and band coverage, appears to be an Option GTM382E, which covers: WCDMA 900/2100 or 800-850/900/2100? (Unless the UK version has a completely different manufacturers card installed)  Any UK nokia Booklet owners, we would appreciate your input if you can look in Device manager at your 3G modem card.
The details of the different Option GTM382 cards is as follows:
    Specifications
. Multi-bands variants (bands with Rx diversity are underlined)
    › GTM382W (MO 0402): 850 / 1900 / 2100 MHz
    › GTM382E (MO 0401): 900 / 2100 MHz
    . Power Class 3 (+24 dBm)
    . HSUPA mode: 2 Mbps: category 5,
    (upgradeable to 5.76Mbps: Category 6)
    . HSDPA modes:
    › HSDPA 1.8: Categories 1-4, 11 and 12
    › HSDPA 3.6: Categories 5 and 6
    › HSDPA 7.2: Category 7 and 8
. Equalization and Rx Diversity at the same time
. UMTS: 384 Kbps operation in downlink, 384 Kbps in uplink
    HSUPA / HSDPA / UMTSAWS (MO 0407): 850 / 1900 / 2100 / AWS MHz
    . Circuit-switched data: 64, 14.4 and 9.6 Kbps
    . 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
    . GSM Power Class 4 (2W) for 850 / 900 bands, GSM
    . Power Class 1 (1W) for 1800 / 1900 bands
    . EDGE class E2 (+27 dBm in 850 / 900 bands, +26 dBm in
    1800 / 1900 bands)
. GPRS / EDGE Multislot Class 12 (4 slots Rx, 4 slots Tx)
    . GPRS / EDGE Class B Type 1 MT
    . GPRS CS1-CS4; EDGE MCS1-MCS9
    . Circuit-switched data: 14.4 and 9.6 Kbps
Upon further investigation on the Ofcom website, UK phone providers transmit on the following frequencies:
    UK CELLULAR FREQUENCY RANGES
    GSM 900 Frequency Range:
    Mobile transmit (BTx) 880 - 915 MHz
    Base transmit (MTx) 925 - 960 MHz
    GSM 1800 Frequency Range:
    Mobile transmit (BTx) 1710 - 1785 MHz
    Base transmit (MTx) 1805 - 1880 MHz
    Third-Generation (3G) Frequency Range:
    Base transmit (BTx) 2110 - 2170 MHz
    Mobile transmit (MTx) 1920 - 1980 MHz
BTx / MTx In TDD (Time Division Duplex) 1900 - 1920 MHz
The bottom line is that all 3G frequency ranges in the UK are within the 1900 and 2100 range, both of which are covered by the US version of the Nokia Booklet, and importantly all the GTM 382 cards, regardless of models, cover all the slower GPRS/EDGE bands.
If you look at the spec on the Option GTM382W card, which is in the US version of the Booklet, it quotes  "And thanks to triple-band 3G and quad-band 2G support, the GTM382 can be used anywhere in the world."
    Here is the link: http://www.option.com/en/products/products/modules/gtm382w/
And to confirm that the US version has a GTM382W, if you open the AT&T Connection Manager
and click on Tools, Diagnostics, Mobile Info..it lists the modem model as GTM382W.
You are probably now as confused as I am, if not more - but to reiterate, I've got no probs with 3G on Vodafone UK, and have also tried my daughters Orange SIM, which works perfectly also.  Bear in mind I have unlocked the modem and enabled all bands with dc-unlocker.
