Are PDF resumes scanable for keywords

Just heard in a webinar, not to send resume as a PDF since they can not be scanned for key words by employer. Is this correct? My resume was created in Insesign saved as Interactive PDF with links to URLs.

If you can "search" it... it can be scanned. Generally ANY PDF created from a text document can be searched and scanned, because it contains "renderable text" or text that can be copied and pasted.  If you take a paper resume and scan it as an image (jpg or bmp), it has no readable or renderable text and cannot be searched or scanned.

  • PDF Portfolio Search for keywords

    Hello all,
I am trying to find out how you can search a pdf portfolio for keywords that I have added into pdf documents.
I have added the keywords through the document properties window.
It seems odd to be able to add keywords if you can't search for them - any help greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Matt

Thanks, what a bummer . I was hoping for a fix or a freeware solution :P.
Is there a way to notify Apple about this? Keywords seem poorly designed, or at least not thought through, compared to other programs.

  • I have ca. 30 pdf documents I need to search for keywords; how can I do on my MAC?

I have ca. 30 pdf documents I need to search for keywords; when I open these documents in Adobe Reader on my MAC, it shows a Search tool; however, when I search for keywords I know are in the document, none are found.  How can I do a keyword search?

Do you know if the text has been OCR recognised? Are the original documents "scans"?
An easy way to find out, if you can select an individual word or letter? If you are selecting a whole block of text then the document will need to be put through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software first to enable you to keyword search.

  • Searching For Keywords embedded in metadata tags of PDF files

We have a large number of Adobe Acrobat PDF files that were converted from paper documents a number of years ago that we would like to store in OCS Content Services. They were bitmap imaged, so they are not OCR-readable.
We had already embedded keywords in the metadata tag fields associated with the PDF file, but the Ultrasearch Engine in OCS does not appear to "see" them. Is there anyway to tune Ultrasearch so that it can search these fields?
    Thanks!

it calls for me to print out the line that the keyword is on. Is there an easy way to change what i already have to implement that or should i start from scratch again?Well, I haven't taken the time to read all your code to see exactly what you are doing, but it does look a little to complicated to me. I think I would simply read one line at a time from the file and search that line for keywords. This [url http://javaalmanac.com/egs/java.io/ReadLinesFromFile.html]link shows the general structure.

    Hi joannep59572680,
The terms haven't changed recently. ExportPDF subscriptions renew annually, unless your turn off Auto Renewal before your renewal date.
Do you have a specific concern about your subscription?

If you have Adobe Acrobat (not Adobe Reader) the program can perform an OCR on the document you acquired.
In the past I used ABBYY FineReader

    Hi howardw93055634,
Please tell me where you are seeing this error message. It's not one that I'm familiar with as being related to Acrobat or Reader. Is it coming from your online fax service, or does it appear when you try to open the PDF file that you received in Acrobat or Reader?

  • How to make pdf's searchable for all words for multiple documents?

I scan hundreds of documents every week at work. These documents are mostly field invoices for industrial work. I have been saving them with the most important/most searched information as the file name so I can search that information from anywhere in my computer and easily find it. As the work we are doing and our customers are becoming more complex I am needing to search for documents by keywords that just would not be efficient to include all into the file name. I have tried OCR to no avail. After doing OCR on many many files, I will try to search for a word that is right in front of me and it says zero found. My ideal: to be able to search my computer from my desktop for a keyword (like I can with word or excel dosuments), and have all pdf's containing that keyword to populate. I have been working on this for far too long and am not finding the solution, so before I set out to find a new program instead of Adobe I'm hoping there is something out there I just don't know about yet. I have googled this issue til my fingertips are bruised and it always brings me back to: Use OCR! Not only hasn't  it found any pdf using keywords (unless I have that specific document open), half of my files it gives me an error message stating those files can not be rendered OCR. The whole point of what I'm trying to do is to ensure I find EVERY SINGLE document that would have the keyword.
    Please help! Thank you!!

So, park the PDFs that hold those scanner output images of text.
Now, using Acrobat Pro  create an Action to OCR these PDF files and save.
Having been OCR'd these PDFs can have a Catalog index of the collection (built with Acrobat Pro).
Using the Catalog index you can use advanced search (the includes Boolean search).
    Be well...

    HI Carol,
Thanks for writing. It looks like you had selected your work experience to be visible to the public, so this is why it was visible online. Now I see that you have your work experience listed as private (other than what you have on your profile), so this should no longer be the case. Let me know if you're still seeing this searh result and what exact google term you searched for it to come up.
    Thanks, talk to you soon!

  • PDF or HTML for mobile Technical Documentation and Newsletters

    Hi,
I've been reviewing the pros and cons for PDF and HTML for mobile technical documentation and newsletters and wanted to get your honest thoughts on this.
    Here's the scenario:
I need to create  mobile technical documenation and newsletters that are interactive, i.e. video, commenting/annotating, links, forms, etc.
Given how the mobile publishing market is rapidly evolving, what is the most practical format, (with minimum format issues) to use for both short term and long term?  PDF or HTML?  Why?
Based on your choice, which format would you use for non-interactive documents that offers the most creative options and usability?  Why?
    Paul

Hyper Text Markup Language ( HTML ) is going to work better.  Mainly because the way mobile is setup, the interface has to conform to the device and with the other elements coded into the interface, HTML is far better.  You keep referring to usability, so even in non-interactive scenarios in mobile documentation, you're better off using HTML.

  • What are the best practies for naming symbols (spaces OK,etc.)?

What are the best practices for symbol naming for ease, flexibility, & to avoid "gatchas" down the road?
Does it make any difference if one includes spaces in the names of symbols?  Are there any widely followed conventions for naming them like using camelCase or underscores?
    Thanks!

    Hi Gina D 3333,
Best-practice file-naming conventions for PDF files are the same as for any other file. I found this article on Apple's website that contains some useful pointers to consider when you're naming files that will be used on multiple platforms: OS X: Cross-platform filename best practices and conventions
    I hope this helps!

    Srinivasan-
For creating a Generic extractor based on a FM, you first of all need to know what is going to be your structure.. i.e. what all fields you need to pull from what all tables. A functional consultant may help you identify the exact DB tables.
Once you know them, hand over the requirement and the pdf mentioned by Krishna to the ABAP guy, he would be able to take this up further.
Also decide 1st whether you would be using a full load or delta. There is a slight difference in the way they are built.
Let me know how it goes.

  • Since installing Mavericks on my MacBook Pro, I have many (not all) documents that cannot be opened in either Pages '09 or Pages 5.  They show on my doc lists, but are greyed out so I can't try to change extensions or anything else.  Some are PDFs.

Since installing Mavericks on my MacBook Pro, I have many documents, but not all, that cannot be opened in either Pages 5 or in Pages '09.  The names show in my document lists, but are greyed out.  They do not show any extensions, but I'm sure at seast some of them are PDFs.  As I cannot open them, I am unable to try to experiment with any solutions - I am not tech savvy, but can sometimes fix things by trial and error.  I have no issues with sharing documents as I have no other devices.  I just want to be able to open my saved documents!  Also, the documents I can open have to be persistently coaxed to open to a point that it is extremely aggravating.  I am not so happy with this recent "upgrade."  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You use Finder to find stuff. It is what you use to look at where your files are kept and to rename, move or trash them. If you double click on a file in Finder it finds the right software to open it for you.
To open particular files you use the right software for each type. Usually, but not always, the software that made the file.
Pages opens files ending in .pages. Also .txt, .rtf, and doc.
Pages 5 is the latest (but certainly not the greatest) version of Pages. It has trouble opening all sorts of files including the older Pages '09 files but it will still do it.
Unfortunately Apple has chosen for Pages 5 to also save its files as exactly the same file extension .pages despite it being a different format that can not be opened by the older Pages '09.
As we all know Apple is wise and great beyond belief and would not do something that on the face of it looks extraordinarily stupid and shortsighted. Therefore we know that it must be our fault and we are not holding the software right. Because we are bad users, we must be punished, by either having to use Pages 5 or jump through hoops to avoid using Pages 5.
If you have installed Pages 5 any .pages file (old or new) will be opened by Pages 5. If you then save the file, Pages 5 will change the file format. So don't open your files with Pages 5 and don't save them if you do.
To stop Pages 5 opening and resaving your old files, you need to drag it to the trash and empty it.
When it is no longer around to annoy you, you can go back to using Pages 09.

  • Cannot embed pdfs in MS Word doc which are PDF Version 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x) [This is associated with Adobe Reader 9]. Getting 'program not installed' error.

Cannot embed pdfs in Word doc which are PDF Version 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x) [This is associated with Adobe Reader 9]. Getting 'program not installed' error.
Pdfs with other versions are okay:
Tested successfully with Adobe Pro 9 (Version 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)), Reader X (Version 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x)) and XI (Version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x))
Also cannot open embedded pdfs which have been embedded with this version (getting a similar error).
Importantly I have removed/disabled all security options in Adobe Reader, following numerous internet suggestions from Adobe and elsewhere. This does not fix the problem.
Currently the work around is to re-save the pdf with something other than Adobe Reader 9 (so the version updates), but we would prefer not to do this for all the old pdfs we have.
    Thank you,
    Louise.

Could you please email me the document on which you are seeing this issue at [email protected] ?
