Are people still using forums in company intranets

I'm designing an intarnet suite for a company and they want to present last forum messages on the HP, isn't it dated and I should offer them using yammer or is it still a valid solution for company discussions these days?

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a forum website in SharePoint.
Per my knowledge, SharePoint 2013 has several social features, such as Community Sites provide forums for knowledge sharing and discussion, Newsfeed shows items from other users in reverse chronological order and SharePoint’s search feature has also been
improved to take advantage of the new social capabilities.
As for the question of whether to use Yammer or SharePoint 2013 social features, here is how I answer this question for my own customers:
If your company restricts the use of any cloud-based platform or technologies, use      SharePoint 2013 social features.
If your company does not restrict the use of the cloud, use Yammer.

  • Are people still using Safari 1.0?

    I'm trying to find out approximate usage figures for Safari 1.0. I have a CSS bug on my website that occurs in Safari 1.0 which is apparently fixed in 1.2. Mac users are important, but not that common, on my site and I'm wondering what proportion of Safari users are still using 1.0.

    It would probably be the same as the proportion of people still using Mac OS X 10.2.x, give or take due to alternative browser usage. If you could pull up statistics on Mac OS X's install base, that might give you some idea. Sorry, I know it's not very helpful.

  • Why are people still using a browser that wants to censor any views with which it does not agree?

    Mozilla drives out its CEO because he contributed $1000 to support a particular law in 2008 . Then it claims it values diversity. We all know that censors like Mozilla have NO place on the Internet --so PLEASE BOYCOTT MOZILLA --please fight for what little freedom we still have to hold differing views.

    Hi FirstAmendment,
    Thank you for contacting Mozilla about this issue and taking the time to share your thoughts.
    The decision to step down was made by Brendan. Since the moment Brendan was appointed, free and open discussion has come from a diverse spectrum of viewpoints. Mozilla is an organization that believes in openness and that no one should be persecuted for the beliefs they hold, no matter what those beliefs are. We believe in unconditional freedom and openness. That's why we support rights for everyone.
    As this is the Firefox support forum I can only help with questions related to the specific product. If you need more info about Mozilla's CEO you can check the resources below:

  • If using wi-fi are you still using part of $15 att plan?

    If using wi-fi are you still using part of $15 att plan?

    No.  You would be using wi-fi.
    the $15 plan is for AT&T's cellular data network.
    Visual Voicemail, however, does use cellular network.

  • Are people still finding Disk Warrior useful?

    I am getting various problems on my dual G4 system with Final Cut 5.0.4. Some spinning beach balls and some "unexpectedly quits". I am working away through various fixes of the standard variety (permissions, prefs, reinstalls etc) and was wondering if anyone is still using disk warrior. I have an old version disk lying around so will need to upgrade and was wondering if it is still worth having since I know there have been many changes in both OSx and FCP since the old days of 10.2 and OS9 when I used Disk Warrior often.
    Best regards,
    Paul

    Using Disk Warrior after moving large amounts of data on or off of a drive is a good idea to prevent trouble. It's also a good idea to use it as a part of your monthly maintenance routine.
    Several of us have had this argument in this forum before, but I absolutely believe in preventative maintenance of drives in order to avoid trouble and possible data loss.
    Disk Warrior is primarily a preventative maintenance tool designed to help you correct any directory problems long before they can cause data loss. That is how I recommend its use.
    Yes, Disk Warrior can sometimes resurrect a "crashed" volume by reconstructing its directories.
    But to my mind the idea is to avoid this problem by running Disk Warrior often enough that it fixes small directory problems before they become big ones.

  • Memory mapped files Are they still used.

    To System  programmers.
    In some of my old code David used memory mapped files in handling huge sets of random points.  The code reads in the whole file and then sets flags similar to an async process.  The filemapping handles memory instead of using mallocs.  the
    data maybe stored on the heap or in hte global stack.  I went back to Viusal Studio 6 and tried to take out the code as the standard c++ handles a full file read as a char buffer as a void * structure.  I found some valloc data types and
    then found the newer filemapping routines in VS2013. Plus an explanation of global stack and heap.
    Are software developers using file mapping or are they using say vectors to form stl structures.

    Here is some typical code in the old C.  This is close to the code I used in Visual studio 6.  I need to put this in vs2013 under c++ or C++ 11/14.  I have guessed the file handle open and size code.
    main{
    int fsize, numRecords;
    Point *allPoints;
     fsize = readAllFile(name, &allPoints);
    numRecords = fsize/ sizeof(Point);
    for (i=0; i < numRecords:; I++)  printf("rec %d values x %.3f\n", i, allPoints[i].x);
    int
    readAllFile(char*name, void **addr){
    file *fh;
    int fsize;
    openf(fh, name);
    fsize = getfilesize(fh);
    *addr = malloc(sizeof(char)*fsize);
    fclose(fh);
    return fsize;
    This is the boilerplate for the file reads.  Even tried this with text files and parsing the text records.  Instead of the mallocs you suggest vector and the scheme of the code remains the same.
    For a lidar file the xyz records have grown from 10,000 in the 1990's to 1,000,000 points in the mid 2000's.  For this size file 24 M bytes are allocated in one hit.  The whole of the Gold Coast in terms of lidar points in 2003 was 110 million
    points.  It could be more.
    Where is the data stored in the Malloc, Vector or memory Mapped file.  What is good and bad practice.
    Cheers

  • How are people monitoring this forum?

    I've stopped regularly checking everything out here. I used to get a digest a few times a day and quickly scan everything. Now there doesn't seem to be anyway to get a digest and I don't seem to have the motivation to check the board very often. Just wondering how other people are handling it.

    MICHAEL! Hey...it has been a while.
    Yeah, I miss the digests too, but now I just visit the site and...well...read everything. How I find the time, I have no clue.
    And the automated e-mail notifications no longer include the responses in the forum...then tell you to go and read it yourself.
    sigh.
    And reputations are still gone.
    double sigh.

  • Are Apple still using two different SSD drives?

    Hi Everyone
    I am in the process of sorting out an order for a 13" MacBook Air but I have just found out that it would appear that Apple are using two different suppliers for their SSD drives. Alot of the posts about this subject seems to be from a few months a go, and I wondered if anyone has heard anymore info if this is still the case, or if Apple has now switched to one supplier?
    Thanks for any help you can offer

    yes as of three weeks ago, i checked some of the New release diplayed MBA 11 & 13 and they had the old ones in them. TS

  • Are people still having trouble with iPhone/HP Laptops?

    Since I've had my Envy I've had no end of trouble with getting it and the iPhone to play nice. Any my search continues. So far, I have updated every bios, reinstalled Windows 7/iTunes many times, have restored the iPhone far more times than I care to remember and I am STILL having troubles with this thing. Having got through the Syncing issues with the PM55 chipset and iPhone I can now sync with my laptop. However all is not well as it would seem that I cannot sync my photo's. It doesn't matter if I have 0gb, 15gb or 30gb free, iTunes is telling me that there is not enough memory available. This error seems like an old one and there is even some info in the Apple KB but after following all that I still can't get it to sync my photo's.
    Some info on my setup:
    HP Envy 15 (all the latest drivers installed, bios F.24) Core i7-820, 8gb ram etc.
    iPhone 32gb, ver 3.1.3
    iTunes (whatever the latest one is)
    I should add that I can sync my iPhone with an identical install of intunes on my vintage Quad core desktop PC, but as I use my Laptop a lot more (and have all my media, email, and contacts etc on it) I would prefer to sync to it.
    Is there anything that I can do? Its very frustrating to have blown $4k on this equipment and it doesn't work...

    Well I tried deleting the photocache but alas, no luck. I also tried syncing with just the photo's enabled, and it worked! So then I enabled my other media and that copied across too! I thought I was on a bit of a roll here, but now whenever I try and sync it will do one of 3 things:
    iTunes will crash.
    iTunes will indicate that there is not enough memory on the device (+9GB free)
    iTunes will remove the iPhone from the sidebar (and my computer/disk management) even though it will continue to charge.
    Interesting point to note is that it works fine (cable/iphone/itunes/media library) on my desktop and macbook. Still really disappointed that I cannot get these two to cooperate. Also still haven't got any contacts from outlook but that may not be related?

  • Are you still using 32bit Scout Packages?

    We are thinking about reducing our testing efforts for the Eclipse Neon release in the area of 32bit platforms to simple smoke tests.
    In order to verify if this approach is feasible we would appreciate your feedback in case you would need 32bit support for the foreseeable future.
    Remark: As long as Eclipse is distributing 32bit packages on eclipse.org/downloads Scout will also be shipped in its 32bit format. The target of our question currently is on how much we can reduce the associated testing in the future.

    Server side we are using the 64bit version. Client side we are currently using the 32bit version but there is no reason (other than the effort needed to make the changes) why we couldn't switch to 64 bit on the client side as well.

  • Hr tag in HTML, are they still used.....?

    It seems you can create the same effect by using certain css styles, just wondering is it advisable to use them...?
    Are they compatible in dreamweaver...?

    I cant see any reason why not.
    http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_hr.asp states:
    "The hr element can be used to separate content in an HTML page."
    http://www.w3schools.com/html5/tag_hr.asp says:
    "The <hr> tag inserts a horizontal rule, which should define a thematic change  in the content."
    Seems like there's a slight change in emphasis in the purpose but in HTML 4 XHTML and HTML 5 the element is valid and has a purpose.

  • Are people still updating Iphone 3G's to the latest update?

    Itunes is suggesting I need to update my Iphone to the latest software. I know there were several problems with this and was checking here to see what most folks are doing to optimize performance.
    thanks
    Mike~

    My 3Gs has been running iOS 4.1 since the day it came out - not a single problem at all (running 4.1 (8B117)).
    opps, I saw "3G's" as "3Gs", sorry (I blame old eyes and dirty glasses)

  • What code editor/environment are people using?

    Not having used LUA before, I am wondering what is recommend when it comes to writing, editing and debugging LUA scripts?
    Are people just using a basic text editor like Notepad or are there some better tools out there?

    @Sean,
    Haven't developed a web engine before so hadn't thought about that issue.
    Alternative for you - modify your new script, or write another script instead, to allow the released and development versions of a gallery to run in parallel. Either add something into the development version's galleryInfo.lrweb file and strip it out before compiling, or add something in before compiling.
    e.g. the former option would look like this
    Dev galleryInfo.lrweb file would include:
    title = "Web Sample (Dev)",
    id = "com.adobe.lightroom.wpg.templates.sdk.luawebsample.dev",
    Source for compiled galleryInfo.lrweb file would include:
    title = "Web Sample",
    id = "com.adobe.lightroom.wpg.templates.sdk.luawebsample",
    I'm guessing that would be enough to allow LR2 to distinguish between the two versions, and you to know whether you were using the released version of the one still in development. Adding a sed call to your script should easily be able to make this change for you.
    This is a bit of a kludge but should work.

  • After deleting photos, memory in my iPad is still used. WHY?

    When connecting my iPad mini to iTunes on my MacBook Air it shows that I have 2489 pictures on the iPad and am using 28.4 GB for all those pictures. When I open the Photos app on my iPad it shows that I do not have ANY pictures on the iPad, which would be correct, as I have deleted them all. So why are they still using up all that memory? How can I clear the memory to make it available again? BTW, My iPad Settings>General>About agrees with iTunes. It shows that I have 2452 pix (why not 2489 as above?), and am using 28.4 GB for them. So again, HOW CAN I CLEAR THE UNUSED MEMORY, or get rid of the pix if they are indeed still hiding somewhere on my iPad?
    My iPad mini is running iOS 8.1.1
    Thanks for any help....

    Hi, Tahunga,
    May be you need to do a comprehensive first.
    Firstly, be aware that the phone can sometimes take a while to update free space after deleting large items. I have often wondered whether iOS is making the user experience a bit 'nicer' by reporting the item deleted instantly, while doing the actual deleting in the background. Or perhaps its just the time taken to update databases used to record/report used/free space. In any case, try giving it a few minutes (maybe an hour) and see if its 'settled down'.
    Next up, in the Photos app, check the albums 'tab'. Is the camera roll reporting entirely empty? Are there any other albums?
    Finally, plug the iPad into your computer, and open up an app like Apple's Image Capture or whatever you use on Windows/Mac/Linux to import photos from a camera. Check that there's actually no photos in the 'camera' that is your iPad. After clearing out my pad, I found a bunch of small, unreadable movie files and a few photos left over in this app. I don't know how or why, given the iPhone wasn't showing them, but they were clearly taking up space. You may have somehow ended up with a lot of these.

  • TS3230 Is iPhotophotocast 7.0 still useful for OS X 10.9.2?

    I find the Safari plugin iphotophotocast 7.0 in my browse . It haven't been changed since I first setup my computer in OS 10.6 lion.
    So does the ones called SharePoint.
    Are them still useful in OS X 10.9.2?

    I know that I am way after the event for this post, but just a note to point out this article from Apple Support suggests you should NOT delete iPhotoPhotocast.plugin from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/, in case anyone else tripped over this discussion, and was contemplating doing so.
