Are plug-ins applied in the recorded audio file with GB2?

I have a very basic question and I think I know the answer but I just want to have a confirmation. I am using the ChannelStrip plug-in from Metric Halo, which is great by the way, I am wondering if the process is applied directly in the audio file when I am recording a track or if it will only be when I export the track to iTunes? For example when you process a file with a software like PEAK you must indicate that you want the plug in to be applied to the audio file unless it will leave the original audio file unchanged.
Thanks in advance!

If I can remember rightly, a sound recordist friend of mine had one of these units and there was a problem importing the audio from it into pro-tools and avid. I do remember though it was a firmware update that eventually fixed it.
Also does this thing record dual stereo channels onto one .wav file, or two seperate .wavs?

  • Are plug-ins downloaded from the web safe?

Macworld newsletter just sent out an article about the most useful Safari plug-ins (http://lm.macworld.com/t/1158383/7026212/108592/0/). How do you know if it is safe to install a plug-in that sounds very useful but has been downloaded from the web?

    Hi Mike --
The only extension I've heard of having problems is Safari AdBlock, which I did not
on that list. I would trust MacWorld about 90% of the time. You can always delete them
if they don't work out. I would also trust their site for downloading.
    Hope this helps.

  • Share a playlist (the actual audio files) with a friend

I made a playlist that includes songs purchased on iTunes and from other places (datpiff, cd). I want to give the playlist to a friend who doesn't have a CD player. How do I do it? Can I save the audio files to a thumb drive? Will he be able to play the tracks? Or should I save to a cloud application like dropbox and invite him to share the folder? Any suggestions would be so helpful. This is the first mixtape I've made in the post-cd era!

Since these are iTunes purchases that implies they are copyright.  Sharing them is illegal and we're not allowed to assist with illegal activities on the forum, sorry.

  • I can't find a plug in that i downloaded and put in the library/audio file when I'm in garage band

I can't find a plug in that i downloaded and put in the library/audio file when I'm in garage band?

In GarageBand 10.0 and GarageBand '11 are the plugins (Audio Units) installed in
    /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/
What is the GarageBand version? Not all plug-ins are compatible with the newest version GarageBand 10.0
The version number is shown in the "About panel" in the main menu bar: GarageBand > About GarageBand
If you are having the newest GarageBand 10.0, the Audio Units will show in the panel in the Smart Controls of the Track you selected.
Scroll the "Info" pane down all the way or enlarge the Smart Controls pane by dragging the dividing line to the track area upward, until you see theAudio Unit Brick.
Most panes in GarageBand 10.0 can be scrolled.  If you do not see the scroll bars, they will appear automatically, when yous start scrolling. Or enable them permanently in the System Preferences > General > Scroll Bars. This is useful, as long as you do not know yet, which panes have hidden items that will need scrolling, to make them visible.
The Smart Controls need to be enabled in GarageBand Preferences >Audio Midi.
Some Audio Unit plug-ins will no longer work, since the new GarageBand 10.0 is a 64-bit only application; the 32-bit plug-ins are incompatible.

  • Where else are Plug ins stored and throwing things away

    Hello All,
Last year I had purchase Dot Pixels and i installed it in the Applications>AE>Plugins folder.  I got an email to upgrade to the lates version.  It warned to remove the old version before installing the new one, which I did.  However, with the new version the computer did the installation.  Unfortunately, its not working properly, its showing up as a trial version, so I would like to remove it, but its not in the Plug ins folder like the old one was, and when I "Search" for it nothing shows up.  When I type in Dot Pixel in the Effects and  Preset panel, its located in a folder named RowByte.
Where is it located so that I can trash it.
Since I cleaning tihs out and I love throwing away things to reclaim disk space, I noticed  in my HD>Library>Application Support folder a Final Cut Pro and a Final Cut Pro System Support folder, I dont use Final Cut, don't intend to use Final Cut and I don't know where or how Final Cut got to be anywhere on my machine, is it ok that I trash them and any other applications that I do not use and have folders in there.?
    Thank You in Advance
on a Mac os 10.6.8  using AE from the CS4 suite

    There are plug-ins that get installed in the Library>Application Support> Adobe> Common> Plug-ins folder.
I wouldn't mess with the Final Cut folders. They contain things like apple codecs for ProRez and Apple Intrmediate. They are good for you....

  • Why do external editors i.e. nik plug-ins disappear from the Edit in menu?

Time and time again , after creating external editors in the Edit in menu,  they disappear.  I've had this happen in LR3 and now in LR4.  Does anyone know of this?

    daikambu65 wrote:
Corky, I just tried the path you suggested. I moved the files up one level from LIbrary>Application Assistants>Aperture>Plug Ins>Edit to the Plug Ins folder. It worked.
I can now start the NIK plugins either from the pull-down meny under photo in the Menu Bar, or by right-clicking my mouse.
A slight change of subject. I've got the 200-page book, Exploring Aperture. Also have the downloaded .pdf  file of the same book. How is it that, on the Apple Support webpage, they have a .pdf book for Aperture 3.4 that is 800-pages? Did anyone else notice that?
Good to hear you got it working.
The 'Exploring Aperture' is the book that came with Aperture 3 in the retail box (in downloadable form). It goes along with the Sample library that was on the install disc and was designed to walk new users through the basics of the program.
The 800+ page PDF is the actual user's manual which describes all aspects of Aperture 3.4 in detail (although there may be some omissions here and there due to updates since 3.4). I read the original version of the user's manual when it was Aperture 3.0 and it is very informative (especially if you like that kind of reading - which I do).
If you do read through and understand the user's manual PDF, then you will know the program well. You can use the Exploring Aperture book but there will be references to the sample library which you won't have unless you have the retail install disc.
Note - there are books you can buy, but none of them really cover Aperture 3.4.x (a couple were updated for Aperture 3.3, but some significant changes were made that - IMHO - don't make buying those books of more value than just reading the user's manual). It took me about a week of reading each evening to complete it.

  • How do make sure the only audio files in my "Audio Files" folder are what are currently used in my project?

I noticed my hard drive space was getting suspiciously low...
After doing a little digging I realized that every single audio file (even the ones i have deleted segments for in my projects' arrange windows) are being saved in every one of my projects' "Audio Files" folders.
One 4 minute song (comprised of 3 guitars, 1 bass, Midi drums, and a syth) has a cooresponding "Audio Files" folder containing over 1,600 Wav files and is consuming 3.0 + Gigs of hard drive space FROM THAT SONG ALONE!
It seems as if every take i have ever recorded (even If it is no longer represented in my projects's arrange windows) remains saved in these "Audio Files" folders.
Is there a setting/method to ensure what STAYS on my hard drive is only what is being used in the projects? There seems to be no logical reason for keeping every mistake that is otherwise deleted in the overall projects.
there must be... because hand-weeding out every file it too daunting a task to be feasible.....
    THANKS!

    Hi
When you delete a recorded region from the Arrange, Logic gives you an option to 'delete' or 'keep' the underlying audio file. You must've chosen to keep, or you have only been deleting regions which only refer to part of the file, so the whole audio file is still being 'used'.
One method of cleaning up is to go to the Audio Bin, choose Edit:Select Unused, and then Delete.
If you (really) want to tidy up further, you could use the Optimise Files function Audio Bin:Audio Files (but I'd suggest that you read up on that function in the manual to fully understand what it will do).

  • Where did the "record audio from speakerphone" option go in Connect 8??

When I went to start a recording today in Connect 8, I noticed that the "record audio  from speakerphone" option is missing on the pop-up where you enter your  recording name and description.  Where did this option go?  This is how  we record all of our meetings where we do not have integrated audio  (usually due to using an operator assisted line.)  I did double-check my flash settings and made sure the meeting had access to the microphone.

Connect 8 records all audio from the Phone if that was used, or VOIP or via Universal Voice. It picks up all audio in the meeting.
If you have associated a universal voice audio profile with the meeting, choose Audio > Join Audio Conference.
    Choose Meeting > Record Meeting.
In the Record Meeting dialog box, enter a name and summary for the meeting recording.
A recording icon (red circle) appears in the menu bar to indicate that the meeting is being recorded.

  • Can editors using Mountain Lion check the Device Input Gain slider in the Record Audio tool is working?

Please see this thread for full details.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21134725#21134725
It appears that for some people, upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 kills the Device Input Gain slider functionality in the Record Audio tool.
    Could you post your findings?

Thanks Luis, it looks as though it is quite widespread, if not universal.
As you can see in the link above, booting back into Snow Leopard 10.6.8 completely restores the functionality for me, so it looks as though it's ML that kills it.
    I've sent a feedback to FCP X.

  • HT201066 How can I split a long recording audio file into multiple audio files?

    Hi,
How can I split a long recording audio file into multiple audio files?
With Windows I was using Nero software, which is not available for Mac. Is there any similar app for free for Mac?
    Thanks!

    Hello ingiorgio
You can import the track into GarageBand and then split the tracks there. Once that it is done you can highlight the ruler section and then share the song to iTunes to get them separated out.

  • Cleaning up audio files with the eax clean

    hi gang]
i was recording 78 records before and i was useing the eax clean up to clean them up.after i use the clean up im not sure that clean up did anything.it doesnt save the new clean up as a new file.how do i
no if it cleaned anything?also it says you have to use it with the creative media organizer-how do i do
    that?is there a procedure?thanks
    coonsanders

Creative MediaSource can realtime clean up your noisy audio. So, you can connect your records into the line-in of your sound card and then enable MediaSource to do a li've clean up of the line-in.
If your have noisy audio files, you can also use MediaSource to do a li've clean up of the noisy audio files as the files are played via MediaSource.
However, MediaSource does not save the "cleaned" audio. One trick to use What U Hear recording to record the cleaned audio.

  • Using The Same Audio Files On Multiple Platforms

When I import new audio into logic - often it will say that is creating wave forms for the display.
Q: I notice that the audio files on disk do not show an altered modified date - so where are these wave form displays being saved - on the audio file or inside the logic song?
Q: I am interested in possibly going back and forth between logic and Pro tools LE - and at different times using the same audio files for both platforms. Assuming I am not doing any destructive editing - is it OK to use the same set of files for both platforms - or do I need to make duplicates (I'd rather not)? Also, how does this wave form display get dealt with by going back and forth between the two platforms?

A: the waveform overlays are stored in separate,
temporary files - *.ovm files or something, but my
memory is fuzzy on that for now. The original audio
files are not modified in any way.
Hmmm... I've wondererd about this, too, and as best I can tell, Logic DOES modify the original files.
I just imported some stereo interleaved AIF files into a project (with "copy external audio files to project folder" disabled), and I couldn't see any evidence of waveform creation--a disk search by date revealed nothing looking like waveform overviews, and there were no modifications to the AIF file dates.
So... the next time I imported some AIF files, I checked the file sizes before the import...
Sure enough, the files got bigger by about 100K after being imported into a Logic session, even though the file's timestamps were not changed.
Looks like maybe Logic does write the waveforms into the files themselves ?
On a related note, the manual suggests that it's possible to change the "copy external audio files to project folder" setting after creating a project, but I haven't found this anywhere other than File->New... anyone know ?
    Thanks!
