Are pressure transducers linear?

I'm using a Spectramed/Statham P23XL pressure transducer with a Gould (13-6615-50) signal conditioner. I can get 0-2.5V out the back of the SC to map to 0-100mmHg, but outputs below 20mmHg are inaccurate/near zero. How do I get these lower level readings; or do I need to account for some non-linearity - if so how?

The performance that you see is fairly typical of many types of pressure transducers. The deflection of the metal diaphram can not be made to be exactly linear across the entire range of operation. The manufacturer will typically specify a single slope that has been determined at the full scale output level. It is a sound practice to try to limit the use of a transducer to the 40-80% range to avoid the necessity of a complicated calibration procedure. If you wish to use the entire range of the sensor, you will need to perform a detailed ( 4th or 5th) order calibration with an emphasis on the lower 20% of the pressure range.

  • Changed Pressure transducers with 0-5Vdc from the old 0-10. PVis way off!

    Im a newby with labiew as of last week. I was tasked to change the range of new pressure transducers that were recently installed in our lab application. I am currently running 6.1 with Fp-PS-4 , FP-1601 , FP-AI-112 , and FP-RTD-124 Hardware. We are changing over from Omegadyne model PX02C1-015AV to swagelok's S-model, output 0-5, Supply V dc= 10-30 V. The pinout on the connector has already been changed and tested. I also changed the range on the points of change to 0-5 and the pv is reading way off. Im sure there is a scale in a block diagram chart somewhere, but I cannot locate it. Can anyone point to any areas where I may make these changes to correct this problem?

    You might check the Channel Configuration settings in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). Under Remote Systems, expand the I/O modules underneath your 1601. Once you click on the I/O module that you are reading your transducer on, you'll see in the window to the right a Channel Configuration tab. Here, you can check the Data Configuration setting for the input Range. Make sure this is set to the expected signal range from your sensor.

  • Need help getting DPX101 pressure transducers to read correctly in labview

    hello, i previously posted about some resource errors i was getting,
    but i fixed that and now i am simply having trouble getting the
    correct through labview.
    basically i have no experience with labview, and for this project one
    of my professors handed me a box with stuff in it and said here you go
    good luck, so i've been learning everything from scratch.
    the way the system is laid out is I have an SCC2345 (tan box) with i
    believe a PWR02 in it.
    There are 4 modules, 2xSCCTC02 and 1 SCCAI01 and 1 SCCAI02. I have
    familarized myself with the specs of these modules, and the SCCTC02 is
    self explanatory, but the SCCAI0Xs have the following specs.
    SCC-AI01
    Input Range: +/- 42V
    Output Range: +/- 8.4V
    Gain: 0.2
    SCC-AI02
    Input Range: +/- 20V
    Output Range: +/- 10V
    Gain: 0.5
    There are 3 pressure transducers, all Omega DPX101, of the following
    pressures: 5000psi, 500psi, 250psi. Each of these is wired into their
    own Omega ACC-PS1 power supply.
    The ACC-PS1 has the following specs:
    ACC-PS1
    Excitation Voltage: 18V
    Excitation Current: 2mA
    Voltage Gain: 1 +/- 2%
    Output Signal FS Peak: 10V
    Input Power: 2 9V Battery
    The system is laid out as exactly shown here:

    Using a DAQ assistant, i have it acquire all 5 values at 1000 times
    per second and then it updates it to a text file every 100ms.
    The pressure sensors each came with calibration sheets and these had a
    sensitivity value, and i thought the sensitivity was the "scaling"
    value used in the DAQ Assist (5000psi = 1.1mv/psi, 500psi = 10.30 mv/
    psi, 250psi = 19.90mv/psi). I entered in these values and i ran some
    tests and i was getting a value of 18.6 from labview when a pressure
    of 1000psi was applied to the 5000psi sensor. how do i get this to
    output 1000 for when 1000psi is applied?
    Also, the pressure transducers have a "bias voltage" listed on the
    calibration sheets, 8.2 V. Would this have an impact also?
    any ideas on what i should do?
    is my problem clear enough?

  • Setting up DAQ system for testing (using pressure transducer, linear position sensor and strain gauges)

    Hello,
    I like to get your suggestion in setting up the DAQ system. I am very beginner in this issue.
    These SCXI listed below are what we have in the laboratory. I will use DAQ card 6062E.
    SCXI 1000
    SCXI 1520
    SCXI 1140
    SCXI 1142
    SCXI 1305 , 1302 , 1300
    SCXI 1122
    SCXI 1100
    I will use linear position sensor in my experiment. But I'm not sure which SCXI shoud I connect to this sensor.
    This sensor gives 4-20mA output. it requires +13 to +28Vdc excitation.
    I will use pressure transducer (strain gauge type) which gives 100mV output and requires 10Vdc supply.
    I will use strain gauges 350 ohm.
    Regarding to the number of channels used in my experiment, I will use 1 channel of pressure transducer, 1 channel of linear position sensor and 3 or 4 strain gauges.
    Could you please suggest me which SCXI should be used with pressure transducer, linear position sensor and strain gauges.
    Now I'm thinking to use SCXI 1520 with strain gauges and pressure transducer. Is that ok?
    But I'm not so sure on the linear position sensor which gives current output.
    And regarding to sampling rate, I like to get minimum of 60-70 KS/s for pressure transducer. And around 1KS/s for linear position sensor and 1KS/s for each channel of strain gauge are enough. Can I archieve these sampling rate from the available SCXI modules mentioned before? I attached the datasheet of pressure transducer and linear position sensor for you. Please see attached files.
    I'm reallly look forward for your suggestion.

    Hi Ganchai,
    I would recommend the 1520 with a 1314 terminal block for connecting your pressure transducer and strain gauge. It is designed for excitation, bridge completion and has many other features to fit these applications. For your linear position sensor, try using the 1100 module with an additional precision shunt resistor. For example, our 1308 terminal block has built in 249Ohm shunt resistors for taking current inputs for your 1100. These connections should give you the readings you would like.
    As far as sampling rate goes, you should be fine with your requirements. Good luck and I hope you are succesful.

  • Connecting Multiple Omega PX209 (Pressure Transducers) to NI 9205

    I am trying to connect 4 Omega PX209-030G5V pressure transducers to my NI 9205 module and read data through the DAQ Assistant VI.  I cannot figure out how to wire the transducer correctly.  The specs sheet for the transducers is at http://www.omega.com/ppt/pptsc.asp?ref=PX209_PX219. So far I can't get the hardware to talk to the VI.  I know the rest of my configuration is working because I have a set of thermocouples wired through another module and the VI is detecting those.  I think what I need help with most is understanding which wires should go where, suggestions on how to get four wires into COM or AI SENSE if needed, and how to work the DAQ Assistant for a pressure transducer.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Are you using the 9205 in differential or single ended configuration?
    Regardless, the sensor needs an external power supply in the range of 7 to 35VDC it looks like from your specs.
    The positive of this supply will connect to Pin 1 (red)
    The common of this supply will go to AI- if differential, or COM if single ended. It also goes to Pin 2 (black) of the sensor.
    The output of the sensor is Pin 3, white, this goes to AI+ if differential, else AI if single ended.
    0psi will ouput 0V, 30psi should output 5V. Thus 1 volt per 6 psi.
    Can't help with DAQ Assistant, I have never used it. You could possibly try the test panels in MAX to verify your connections/signals.

  • VI help for pressure transducers

    Hey all-
    I am completely new to LabView, and I've been struggling to teach myself though it to get the results I'm looking for recorded.  I'm hoping someone could take a few minutes and lend me a helping hand.
    I need (what I'm assuming is) a very simple VI that will read and record pressures from my two pressure transducers on screen and save out to an excel file so I can work with the data.  I have two Omega pressure transducers, one is a P209X (reads 0-30PSI) and the other is a P309X (reads 0-3000 PSI).  Both have a 0-5V output.
    I've set up a crude VI that I can read the voltage outputs from my two transducers, but I'm not sure how to get it converted to PSI.  I'd prefer a numeric LCD type number display rather than a line graph for both pressures so i can set my pressures, and then cycle the system and record the data. 
    I'm using LabView 2013 with a USB-6216, and have the P309x on A0 and the P209X on A1.
    I'm basically recording input pressure and output pressure on either side of a regulator.
    I certainly appreciate any help.

    Thanks for the help.  I'm trying to incorporate your Vi but am having troubles.  As I mentioned, I'm very new to LV, and can't stumble my way around.  Can you modify the VI i've attached to get what I'm looking for?  Then I can duplicate it for the other PDX.  I can't seem to get mine set up like yours, and I'm spending useless hours trying to figure it out.
    I've scaled my transducers in NI Max, though I don't know how to tie them into LV.  What do I need to do?  Sorry for the trouble.

  • Use Zoom area for basic (linear) animation -- A-ha moment!

    No question here; and, sorry if you already know this; but, had to share...
    I've been lamenting that I couldn't -- easily -- get things to move around within a given slide in Captivate.  It's easy enough to have things fade in and out using transitions; and, to use Flash (assuming you have access to that) to create and importing your own animations.
    But, wouldn't it be nice to have, say, an image be on the screen and have it move from one place to another, and be able to watch it move? And to do it relatively easily?
    Well, I had an A-ha! moment today -- creative use of the Zoom area.
    Place 2 instances of "imageA" on the slide, at the desired start and stop locations.  Let's call them imageA-start and imageA-stop
    Insert a Zoom Area. 
    Modify the zoom area's properties (by double-clicking on both the start and destination areas) so that:
    Start Area: 
    Set the frame width to 0 (so you don't seen any outlines as the image moves across the screen)
    Use "no transition"
    Destination Area:
    Set frame width to 0
    Click on "Select image..." and navigate to/select imageA again.  This will fill the zoom area's destination area with imageA, which is what you will see "zoom" across the slide
    Ensure that both the zoom area's start and destination panes are the same size as imageA-start and -stop, respectively. 
    Place the zoom area's start pane on top of imageA's start location
    Place the zoom area's destination pane on top of imageA's stop location
    Adjust the time line to that they go:  ImageA-Start|zoom area|imageA-stop --- butting up right next to each other. May need to have the zoom area overlap imageA-stop by a tenth of a second.
    Preview it and you should see your imageA slide across the screen more-or-less seamlessly.  You'll probably find you need to tweak the size of imageA-stop and/or zoom's destination area.  The latter's size properties include an untweakable margin between the destination area's borders and the inserted image
    You can even get a bit more creative:  make imageA-stop be a bit bigger than imageA-start, and just be sure that the destination area is the same size.
    You can adjust the slider in the middle of the zoom area to tweak how quickly the image will zoom.
    So, this will allow you to slide an image across the screen.  Limited to linear movement and maybe not so sexy -- but, better than what I could do yesterday (without going to Flash, that is)!

    I've done that as well in a similar fashion. Just use the insert image function of the zoom area without inserting the image actually on the slide as an Image object. Ensure both the zoom area and zoom destination are sized identically (easily done by selecting both and using the sizing options on the context menu)
    I'm guessing by saying you may only zoom linearly you meant in a straight line from point A to point B. This is true in that you can't define a "motion path" as you can in Flash. (I know enough about Flash to be dangerous). What that seems to infer though is that perhaps you may only move horizontally from right to left or left to right. But the points may also be diagonal or wherever you need them.

  • Convert Voltage to Pressure

    I am using a PMD-1208LS device from measurment computing and have all the drivers installed, I am unable to use the MAX program to detect any devices for DAQ, however, I can use the VI's supplied with the device so I can get an analog input reading from my pressure transducers. I need to know how to convert my input into a usable number (i.e. Inches of Water) on my graph and display. I have a 24VDC power supply operating the transducers, and the transducers are 0-5VDC output.

    To do the convertion from a sensor voltage to pressure I some times use the lpolynoimical interpolation vi... I attach an example of a sensor 0.5v - 4-5v to 0-150psi.
    I too use the same vi when the sensor isn't linear, some temperature sensor that I'm using result to have a very nonlinear curve, so I simply charge the input and output
    points on the array tables and works perfectly.
    I don't know if this is the best way to do it...but it works for me

  • Link functions are not working correctly

    I am have a number of links on my page and I am using the a;link, a:hover and a:visited commands but I am getting strange results. First of all my css is on a separate style sheet. What I am trying to do is have all my links in gray text both when before and after being visited and I want the text to change to red and underline when I hover over the link. My results are that in live view the links all seem to work ok except for my HOME link at the bottom of the page where it does not change color and does not underline. When I view in browser the results are worse. None of the links change when I hover over them excepts for the DOWNLOAD link. Also note that I have 4 columns of unordered lists about the footer which also does not work either. Here is the source and css code. Thanks for your help.

    When you use the link pseudclass in your css it has to be expressed in the correct order.

  • How can I configure NI PCI 6221 and DAQ SCB-68 for pressure sensors?

    everybody,
    I am using the measuring board (NI PCI 6221) and DAQ
    SCB-68 for the data acquisition.
    With the DAQ-Assistant I created AI for the voltage of
    pressure sensors. In a big indicator panel from this DAQ-Assistant I see the
    voltage for both sensors in the correct size. But if I set sensors in the
    blockdiagramm to control the signals for sensor one I get a wrong voltage size
    and for sensor 2 nothing.
    How can I configure this data acquisition equipment to
    get the correct signals?

    I do not know the type of sensor you are using. But pressure transducers may have a very low output voltage(in the mVolt range). They also need an excitation voltage.     1 Instrumentation Amplifier as a preamp
    2 filterstage
    3 Final amp and output buffer
    (you may combine stage 2 and 3)
    Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
    (Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

  • Simple pressure transducer

    Hi
       Does anyone have a simple pressure transducer vi with offset null built into code. I am fairly new to labview and most examples I have seen are way to complex for me to figure out what is going on.  Is it better to use DAQmx or DAQ assistant?  I have two pressure transducer (omegadyne-10V excitation) hooked up to a SCXI-1327 TB with a 1121 module. I wrote a program to convert mV to pressure using linear scale but that's all I know how to do at this point! And I want to know how to read both tranducers.  Thanks!

    The DAQ Assistant is built off of the DAQmx driver and is typically a good tool for basic tasks but can fall short when doing advanced configurations. In your particular case, you will need to use the individual DAQmx VIs to perform your task. I was able to find the the following Example, Load Cell Data Acquisition with Null Offset and Shunt Calibration, searching the online community. Keep in mind you will need to make some modifications to make the example applicable for you. You will need to change the scaling appropriately, excitation and shunt calibration.

  • Pressure Measurement!

    Hi All,
    I am a new user of LabView, and I am not familiar with it. Here are some questions that I am facing:
    1. I am wondering how can I generate a VI which can measure 10 readings from 10 pressure transducers range from 4-20mA (0-250psia) corrsponding to different time.
    2. How can I create a text file (Excel file) to collect the pressure vs. time when the experience is running?

    Thanks for your reply. Actually what my professor and I are trying to do is to record the ten different pressure transducers located at different places along our simulated water distribution system as time goes by. Thus, we are expected to get whole bunch of pressure data sets with respect to time, and we want to import those pressure and time data sets into a text file (excel). 
    Thanks for recommending me to take the LabView training course. I took the course a week ago with my professor, but it didn't really tell how can we set up the pressure VI in our situation. If you don't mind sharing your thought with us and showing us how to set it up, that will be owesome.

  • Creating a Pressure - Volume Diagram for an air compressor. Please Help!

    I'm fairly new to Labview and desperately need some help. 
    My hardware:
    cDAQ-9172 with a NI 9233 module in slot 1 and a NI 9411 module in slot 5.  I am using 3 ICP type pressure transducers hooked up to the 9233 that is measuring pressure.  Transducer 1, 2, and 3.  Hooked to the 9411 is a rotary encoder.  It is set up to measure 360 derees, and has a z index once per revolution that will be set to top dead center with a cylinder on an air compressor.
    My software: Labview 8.2.1
    What I need: 
    First task:
    I have psi transducer 1 and 2 set up on the cylinder head.  1 on the intake side and 2 on the exhasut side.  I need to graph both pressures over 360 degrees crankshaft rotation (0 degrees or z through 360).  The only data I need to see and save to a file is the two pressures graphed over 0-360 degrees crankshaft rotation.
    X=0 (z) through 360 degrees on the encoder 
    Y=two pressures 
    Second Task:
    I need to graph pressure transducer 3 over the cylinder volume for 360 degrees. 
    X= Pressure 3
    Y= Piston Volume
    Apparantly for this task I would have to enter the piston diameter and the stroke to calculate the volume.

    Set the coder to trigger the A/D sample aquisition from the pressure transducers. You do this by configuring the aquisition to be triggered by an external clock source; the new DAQ wizards take you through how to set this up and connect the hardware with pretty diagrams.
    You will now get a sample for every angle event from the coder, of course what happens inbetween is anyones guess but hey-ho its the same for any discrete sampling system!!! ... you can always do some runs with pseudo continous logging if you are nervous. All you then need to do is set up the start count from the index pulse and you have angle versus presssure related to TDC... Of course it won't go round smoothly and may well go backwards a bit as well !

  • Using TEDS as storage for precision standards instead of transducers

    My company makes and calibrates precision resistance, capacitance and inductance standards. These are not transducers, yet they posess calibration data that would benefit from 'internal storage'. Some data could event be represented as a polynomial or a table (capac vs. freq; resistance vs. temp)
    Is there a standard like TEDS for 'source' components; or could TEDS be used to create a built-in datasheet? (Call it "SEEDS", Standards Equipped with Electronic Data Sheet ;-) .

    As of now, if there is such a standard, I am unaware of it. However, there may be a way to do something like this using TEDS. The IEEE 1451.4 (TEDS) standard does include an optional calibration section where different types of calibration data can be stored. So you may be able to utilize TEDS to store information about the resistors/capacitors/inductors. However, National Instruments software does not currently read in the calibration information and automatically process it.
    Something else that could be considered is that along with the calibration section there is a user data section in TEDS format that allows the placement of ASCII data.
    Also, with NI-DAQ 7.2, you have the ability to read in a bitstream from a TEDS sensor. So it is also possibl
    e to develop your own format and read in the binary information and process it using LabVIEW. However, you would have to understand IEEE 1451.4, and how to write in the proper checksums, and then create your own TEDS sensor, but I do believe it is possible.

  • Stroke thumbnail view in brush presets panel in CS5 doesn't represent pressure sensitivity

    Greeting.
    Have just installed the CS5 package. Unlike it was in PS CS2, that I loved very much, I can't see whether the brushes are pressure sensitive or not in the brush presets panel of the new PS CS5 version. See the image please.
    Any option that I overlooked?
    It's a PS CS5 64 Bit version at XP64. NVidia drivers are fresh. Enough memory and processing power.

    Thanks Noel. That thread was a big help. I used the last person's suggestion and so far it has corrected the problem:
    "We are running the latest driver  (6.1.6-7) and can confirm the fix you are mentioning - rolling back to  the earlier driver (6.1.5-3) fixes the issue.  However, along the way we  also found a more interesting solution - loading a set of preferences  from an older driver seems to also resolve the issue!
    We  used the Wacom file utility to clear our preferences on a machine  running the older driver (6.1.5-3), then saved out our default set of  preferences.
    On another station, after confirming an  account had the issue on the latest driver (6.1.6-7), we proceeded to  load the preferences we'd saved out of the older driver.  Presto!  The  problem vanished.  We can replicate this by bringing back the issue if  we go back to the default prefs in 6.1.6-7.
    Thought i'd share in case this is helpful for any of you.
    For  us, it's a much easier fix than having to redo wacom drivers (and  perhaps have other issues!) across multiple academic comptuer  laboratories mid-semester.
