Are Sky telling me the truth

I have been waiting for almost a month for my fibre broadband to be connected.  Sky are telling me that it is due to a capacity issue at my exchange, fair enough, but that it is Openreach who seem to be dragging their feet to resolve the issue.  My local exchange is Hatfield, Doncaster.  Does anyone know, especially anyone within BT, whether Sky are being honest or just fobbing me off again.  I have to say that if they are fobbing me off they can kiss goodbye to over 15 years of me being a customer.

From your results FTTC broadband is available from a BTWholesale provider (such as BT Retail with their FTTC BT Infinity Service) however as Range B is estimated 22.4 to 10.7 mbps due to your distance from your DSLAM cabinet, BT Retail may offer you their sub 15mbps FTTC fibre broadband called Faster Unlimited Broadband instead of their BT Infinity broadband.
Technically their isn't a difference in how FTTC BTInfinity and Faster Unlimited Broadband is dilieverd to the property, just that Faster Unlimited Broadband is specially for those who are estimated under 15mbps for FTTC.

    Lion is Not compatible with PPC (Power PC) based software, such as your older version of PhotoShop.  Your choices are you can either upgrade to the newer version of PhotoShop, or you can backup your data and apps, erase your harddrive and reinstall Snow Leopard.

    Older Macs with a single Harddrive would simply expand OS management on the drive, and I think I understand the new Fusion Drive to do just that, but how do I get this product that I spent a great deal of money on to be more than a pretty screen?

    OS X manages ram and when you run out, it create swapfiles to extend your ram on the HDD (Hard Disk Drive). The OS itself, takes about 16 gig of space and that too resides on the HDD.  Your 16 gig of RAM is really a temporary space that holds things from the HDD so the processor can work on them.  There is no design flaw between your ram and HDD.  Something else is going on and there are a lot of smart people here to help you figure out what that "something else" is.
    I would do three things.  First I would create a backup, backups are important.  Second, I would reboot into recovery and repair my HDD.  Lastly while still booted in recovery I would repair permissions.
    Can you capture a screen shot of the exact error you are getting?

    Now im sure there might be grounds for a complaint on BT's part, but are they aware of the picture SKy are painting on their "Accounts cancellation" line of their service?
    I cancelled my sky account a few days ago and after having to endure a 20 minute phone call while the person on the end (desperately) tried to keep me with sky, the following was mentioned which are just untrue.
    Firstly they mentioned I wouldnt get any programs that I watch at the moment such as Kids, LOST (finished), 24 etc... when I stated I could get them (while an older series) they stated how this was not true. THey also didnt seem to be able to grasp that 80% of what we watched was on Freeview channels (hence why we want to stop sky!)
    The icing on the cake was that I would not get certain channels, now as I stated to them BT Vision is not that sort of TV, something they couldnt understand.. lol
    To top it all, the person then stated, I would loose the ability to record my TV programs if I got BT Vision, now you and I all know, BT Vision "is" a pvr which allows recording of Ondemand and Freeview content. It was at this point I threatend to report them for lieing and misselling.
    there must be something BT can do about this, as I am sure its encouraging (misinformed) people already set on leaving sky to think twice and remain with them..

    I agree and I am about to ditch sky as I have had nothing but trouble with them. For Years and years they have took my money and there has been no real alternative to sky. Here are a couple of reasons for me wanting to go elsewhere. I even have BT vision and sky at the same time at the moment.
    They sent me a flyer offering multiroom for £5 for a year which all in all is very good. I phoned up and ordered and multiroom was setup (we already had the additional box), I confirmed that it was £5 a month for the year.
    My bill arrived and I was charged £10, quick call to sort this out I thought. Anyway to cut a long story short I was called a liar and told that was not an offer available and anyway there was nothing on my account. I was not happy as I could prove nothing as the flyer had gone
    A few weeks later my wife came across it so at my expense and time I photocopied it and set it in, they then gave me 6 months instead of 12 for £5 and no apology which is not a surprise.
    I have also been previously without broadband to 4 weeks as I was told my equipment was faulty, every time I called I had to go through their basic checks!!! I've spent 20+ years in electronics and comms (I have a rough idea!!!) Eventually they agreed to get BT out and bill me if it was my end. Surprise, the fault was with their equipment in the exchange!
    To top it all I paused the F1 yesterday and went to unpause 15mins in (ok I missed nothing!) and they digibox just reset itself!!! This has happened 8 or 9 times now as well as losing all the programmes when the box gets upset and a full reset is required. Only once or twice a year but what is the point of having a box to record stuff that you need to wipe to get it to work again!!!
    Sky are in my opinion don't not see customer service as something that should be even considered as a priority. Have some of the worst technical support I have ever seen (I have to say though that there are a few good ones!) but in general poor to very poor.
    So on to BT, I hope that the sky sports package is good as I want this and I'm happy to pay around £20 a month even if it was more than I pay sky. I hope they make a good package for any new HD content in the future as I do like sky's HD just skys arrogant attitude of we have the best and no one is close will hopefully be their downfall as I'm sure lots of people are looking to BT and the likes to provide a real alternative. Now its 50% of the way there but getting better so keep going.

    There is no Flash Player for the iPad. I don't know what you downloaded, but if it was from the iTunes Store, it wasn't Flash Player. If you search this or the Using iPad forum for "flash", you'll find a number of suggestions as to alternatives to Flash Player, such as Puffin, but whether any will work with the card site you wish to use I can't say; none of the solutions work with all sites.

    I've a problem I've never come across before and it's how to permanently delete files on a usb flash key? I've just migrated from using Windows for 15 years onto Apple iMac and had been deleting files easily and permanently from the key on Windows without any hassle and thought I'd done the same on my iMac but seemingly they're still there as the tele is showing them when key is plugged in, BUT they can not be seen on iMac. I wondered why the key wouldn't take anymore files after, what I thought was, deletion and now I know why-imac hasn't deleted them!
    I've actually gone into Disk Utility and formatted the key in it's usual FAT32 format to finally delete the files.  Anyone any ideas as to why this happens and how to solve this please?

    In addition to what Drew wrote, remember the Mac has a data fork and a resource fork.
    Here is an old thread but a nice recap by Dr. Smoke
    ._Files
    Note that the ._file files you note are the resource forks of Mac files you copied to the drive from your Mac, and these are only visible when you use the Flash drive on a PC. These are normal and indicate the Flash drive is already formatted for Windows.
    When you copy or save a file from a Mac OS X system to a Windows shared volume or a Windows-formatted disk, the Mac creates two files: the data fork (xxx) and the resource fork (._xxx). This is called Apple Double Format and is normal. The resource fork contains additional data about the file that is exclusive to the Mac that cannot be saved otherwise on Windows-formatted disks. This is new with Mac OS X, as documented in Mac OS X: Apple Double Format Creates File Name With the Prefix '._'.
    The resource fork files (._xxx) are necessary if you want to copy the file back to the Mac and retain the metadata. The resource forks of files are invisible when they are used on the Mac: the Mac OS Extended file system (aka HFS Plus or HFS+) uses forked files, with a file having both data and resource forks.
    You can delete the resource forks on the Windows disk if and only if you don't care about losing the resource fork information should you copy them back to the Mac, such as comments, image preview icon, etc. Some Mac applications use the resource fork data, so deleting the resource fork can be problematic if you copy the file back to the Mac. Likewise moving the file while not also moving its associated resource fork when using the data on a PC can result in problems when using some files again on the Mac.
    You can't prevent the resource forks from being created if you copy or save files from the Mac to the Windows share or Windows-formatted disk via Finder.

    I lately found out this software available that says; using that, anyone can spy on us by just knowing our skype ID... Is that possible? I saw it when I was just moving around in YouTube. And with all these comments people saying it's really working. I didn't try to download it and find the truth coz I felt its not a good idea as it can affect my computer or my own skype account....

    I think that those software that you mentioned could actually do harm in your computer, rather than to do what they claim they can do.  Those programs that claim that can hack Skype calls are most likely fake software and most likely contain viruses/malware/spyware or similar elements.
    People/parties who promote such software also make use of fake social media accounts to put comments saying that their software actually work (which is a very common practice of scammers).  
    and you made the right choice on not to download those programs in your computer.  Who knows what damage they could do in your computer system/accounts.

I bought it via my Iphone 4S.  When I turn on itunes on my Mac Notebook 2004 (IOS X 10.4.11) I can see the album as a purchase but it is not listed in my library music nor can I add it to my Itouch 2nd generation.  Do you know why?  I can access the songs on my iphone but nowhere else.

    They will only be on your computer's iTunes if you put them there. If you are in a country where you can re-download music then they should show under the Purchased Link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes. If they don't show there then you can connect your phone to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over.

    I have tried this process thrice not able to solve this problem ......unchecking allow multiple ..i don t think matters as this is provisioning to org ...n what i am telling is the list from which u select the resources to be provisioned --that list shows duplicate resource object names at a time..Each time I import an xml the number of same resource object names being displayed in the list increases ...So If I have imported three workflows then (say Resorce Object AD) appears thrice in the list. I have not given the resource objects same name in all the workflows for this to happen

  • Adobe acrobat pro 9 keeps telling me "the serial number I entered is not valid"

    I recently had my macbook pro logic board fail and had to purchase a new macbook pro (expensive reinvestment after only 3 years but that's another story).
    Anyway, all of my cs4 upsell products loaded just fine, except adobe acrobat pro 9 keeps telling me "the serial number I entered is not valid." After contacting adobe thru chat several times, here is the info I got back: my serial number IS valid, I still can activate 3 more times (deactivation was not an issue in this case), the final answer was  the cs1 server (my previous version before cs4) is no longer available which basically renders my version of acrobat unusable. Is that really the case? Now that I have a new computer I can't use that software any longer it was working fine on my old laptop? Why did all the other software load okay? Did I miss something or is buying another upgrade neccessary?
    ps: using Macbook Pro with MacOS X.8.5

    Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver are all working just fine. I haven't needed any other apps yet since the reinstall. Install actually worked fine too for Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 but when I try to open anything in it I get the Software Setup Screen and it wants me to enter the serial number for the product, when I do it says the serial number is invalid. I included a screen shot below with the serial number removed so you can see. In chatting with adobe, my rep said it is a valid number (obviously since it worked fine on my other apps), but the server for CS1 is no longer available and since I have an upsell from CS1 they cannot offer me support and to take my question to the forum board, so here I am.

    Are there benefits to the Blackmagic Intensity Pro for HDV capture ? 
    I have a Sony HDR-FX1 that records in HDV 1440 x 1080 
    I have already captured the footage to miniDV tape. 
    Can the intensity card get the full 1920 x 1080 video ? 
    I now use Premiere to capture my video and my HDV is in mpeg2 and my SD is in DV type 2 AVI 
    What format does the intensity card capture at ? 
    Are there other ways to capture that would make the footage better. 
    From what I have read allot of people have had problems with these cards. 
    Im just looking for the best way to get the footage off my camera with the best resolution.

    I have posted this before in the PC Buying Guide (post #23 and later), but have a look at this diagram:
    The problem is that once recorded to tape, the material is compressed to MPEG and there is no way to get the data back, that were lost during compression. The only thing you achieve is that you lose device control, lose all timecode information, lose all metadata like date and timestamp and exposure data and lose the capability of scene detection. There are no gains to compensate the losses.
    Compare it to a glass of orange juice, that was made by heavily compressing oranges. How do you think you can reconstruct the original oranges that the juice came from? Were there 4 large oranges or 6 small ones or a mixture? Were they light colored or were they dark or a mixture of light and dark?
    BlackMagic in their marketing may lead you to believe otherwise, but the truth is they can only guess at how many oranges were used, their size and color. It is nothing more than a guess.

    I've downloaded from the App Store the newest version of The Sims 3, however both iTunes and my iPhone 3GS are still telling me I have one update to download, and it's the same application. I tried re-downloading/syncing, yet it keeps telling me the same app needs to be downloaded. I've tried downloading through iTunes, and through the iPhone itself (connected to a WiFi network as the app is over 10MB).
    This happened a little bit ago, when it was telling me there was an update for Evernote, and once downloaded and synced, it kept informing me of this update.
    Is there an issue at the moment somewhere? Have I run into some sort of bug that should be reported? Is there a fix/workaround?

    Both my wife and I have had same issues recently. When I first noticed it, it was the same time frame that they made changes to the AppStore (read about in blogs about how some changes upset developers as they changed how apps are listed) and since then, it seems to happen often. I just have to install again and eventually it stops saying I need the same app.
    Sort of wonder if they made yet another mistake with an update.

    and confirm. Test. If the sites still don't work, they're incompatible with Safari. Use another browser, such as Firefox, to access them.
