Are sub events within events possible?

I briefly searched and did not find anyone asking the exact same question.
I am wondering if there is a way to make sub-events within events. I am not a fan of using the folders very much, and it seems like this should be possible in events, it fits the whole concept of "events"
For example:
Main Event: California Trip
SubEvent: Disneyland
SubEvent: Beach
SubEvent: Winery
Basically, I love using events, but I don't want an event with 500 pictures in it covering a whole week trip. On the other hand, things get extremely cluttered if you have 7 individual events on your main event page for one trip. I have 300 events, and lots of those are trips broken into 5-10 events.
If this is not possible, I sure hope someone in software development is thinking about it... : )

Yes it is possible to make folders within other folders. Select a Folder then go File -> New Folder or drag a folder to another one.
These are my categories:
Have you considered using Keywords for these categories?
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums exensively. I title the pics broadly.
I keyword on a
Who
What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 25k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
File -> New Smart Album
set it to 'All"
title contains Seattle
keyword is mountain
keyword is snow
rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
New Smart Album
Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
Keywording takes time to set up, there's no doubt about it. I use Keyword Manager as it's much more powerful than the inbuilt system, and adds the possibility of nested keywords. So, for instance, if I add John to a photo it also adds 'Family'. Now I can add many keywords to a pic quickly.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • How do i sort events within events on iPhoto

    I have a lot of events that have to do with one main event in iPhoto. I wanted to make one big event that I would click to then open all the specific event folders within it, is there any I can do this?

    There is one drawback with huge events. I found that iPhoto and Aperture are a bit slower, if the event size is larger than about 1000 photos. Scrolling the event will take a long time, and smart albums based on that event will take longer to load, because iPhoto will have to search more photos. I prefer to use smart albums and keywords to group related photos and keep the events small - one shoot- one event. The added advantage is, that sorting the events by date will give meaningful results. If an event has photos from several years, the event date does not make much sense for sorting the events.

  • Is it possible to have an event within an event?

    I have an event named for my niece, and I have all the pictures of her in it. I'm wondering if it's possible to have events within events, so I can just have 1 event with her name, then when you click on it, sub-events named things like "Christmas" "Thanksgiving" etc.?

    no - events are time based and can not be nested - use albums and smart albums which can be placed in folders and folders can be placed in folders for that kind of organization - Europe folder containing France and Italy folders each containing cities as an example
    Events are just a very basic and inflexible organization for people to start with - albums, folders, keywords and ratings are where the power is

  • Can we create a sub Event within the main Event in iPhoto?

    I would like to reduce the amount of Events I have showing in iPhoto, to one Event for one catogory and then create sub events within this main Event.
    For example.
    Create 'Holidays' for Main Event
    Then various sub Events within 'Holidays' showing destinations for each holiday with the photos.

  • Is it possible to call event within even in Java

    I want to call Mouse Move event in Mouse dragg event, is it possible. Could you please give reference on how to do that.

    The simplistic answer: Yes, if you only want to use some "bland" code in the mouseMoved() method. But I'm not sure how the MouseEvent is set up differently between the two. I would bet that the getPoint() function has useful data in it.
    addMouseMotionListener(new MouseMotionAdapter() {
    @Override
    public void mouseDragged ( MouseEvent e ) {
    this.mouseMoved(e);
    e.consume ();
    @Override
    public void mouseMoved ( MouseEvent e ) {
    mousePos = e.getPoint();
    });

  • Grouping photos within events

    I want to group my photos within Events. So for example I want to create an Events sorted by year of activity and then within that Event group the photos by "sub Event" like "Holiday to Somewhere". So when I search I can find all photos from 2015 in one Event and then look for activities during the year.
    I do not want to combine currently seperate Events by date into one as this is too large to work with.
    I have looked at creating an Album named by year but again from what I can see this then ungroups photos and they appear in the Album as individual photos.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Cheers

    Not possible.
    That's exactly what Albums are for:
    Create a folder called 2015
    Create Albums from the various happenings during 2015, drag them to the folder.
    Click on the folder: see all the images from 2015, click on the albums to see only the specific events.
    I have looked at creating an Album named by year but again from what I can see this then ungroups photos and they appear in the Album as individual photos.
    Sorry but I don't understand what you mean by that.

  • Determine index of array within event structure

    I am doing some testing with dynamically registered events.  For these testing purposes, I have 2 separate arrays of boolean references hooked up to the dynamic input terminal.  The event structure is executing like I expect it to.  The only problem is that I want to know the index within the array for the event that triggered the value change event.  I would have thought I could use the CtlRef node to determine this, but instead it returns a reference to the actual boolean control that triggered the event.
    I could write a subroutine that searches for the label of the boolean that triggered the event within the arrays, but that is not efficient or good practice.
    So for instance, if I click on Boolean 2, I'd want the event structure to know it was array #1, index 1.  If I click on Boolean 6, I'd want the event structure to know it was array #2, index 2.
    Is this possible?

    That is a very good idea.  The caption is good to use for the label you show to the user.  You can change it to show different things, even programmatically, such as if you need to make your application more international and have it display controls in different languages to different users.  It lets you use longer or more descriptive names, without having those long names eat up block diagram space.
    Another thing I've done is take the control reference and search for it among the array of control ireference.  Search 1-D array will give you the index of the control within the array.  Then I can use that index and apply it to a different array and index out a value from that.  It could be a name, or perhaps a numeric value I use as a multiplier or something like that.  Just make sure there is a one to one correlation between the references in the array and whatever is the other array you are getting additional data from.  For what you have drawn now, it could be a little bit complicated because you actually have two different 1-D arrays of references.  But if you concatenated those arrays together, you'd have a single 1-D array you can search.

  • Events within Albums/Folders - the missing layer?

    Just installed iLife '08 today excited about all the new goodies but I have a feeling that there is something missing with events. Sure it is cool that all those pictures are now grouped within an event, but is it not a miss given that events and albums do not interact with one another at all?
    I mean I'd love to do this (please tell me if I'm doing something wrong):
    ALBUMS
    ALBUM > Birthdays
    EVENT > Stan Birthday 2005
    EVENT > Cartman Birthday 2006
    EVENT > Kenny Birthday 2007
    ALBUM > Family
    EVENT > Japan Vacation
    EVENT > Family BBQ
    etc. etc.
    Essentially have a folder / album structure around the events, instead of having them both as they are now, mutually exclusive from one another
    Thoughts? How is everyone else organizing their pictures with events / albums / folders?

    +What if you want to import photos from different sources from the same event but want to maintain the "rolls?"+
    I have not tried that yet. Good question about the different sources. I'll have to check that.
    In any event (har har) if they come up as separate Events once imported, you could then combine them as one Event. Then use an Albums to differentiate the source.
    Or you could keep them as separate Events and label them differently but put them all into one Album.
    There are no sub-hierarchies to Events. No sub-Events. No more Rolls. Rolls were set up based on when imported, rarely a matter of concern. When you had a "shoot" is the real advantage of Events, and far more photographic—how it is done professionally. The overflow of digital images these days almost mandates a more professional workflow. Aperture uses this system called Stacks that are very similar, except with a timeframe of minutes.
    Go back to my workflow example and you'll notice that Events are used to make it easier at getting the good from the many. I would suggest you keep each source as a separate Event, get the "picks" from each Event and put those into a Birthday Album. You can use comments to label which photo came from which source, and if exporting, the new IPTC standards in iPhoto 8 will even append these to the photo's data fork.

  • How do I schedule an event within an already scheduled event ?

    I have a business trip coming up for a few days, which I scheduled on my iCal. In the middle of the trip, I have a couple of meetings that I wanted to schedule in as well.
    Uh oh, every time I click on the highlighted dates of travel to create a new event, I find that I can't add anything else during that time. The only thing that comes up is my travel and I am blocked from adding an event within the event, as it were.

    Banktank,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    If you are not being allowed to add/change/edit an event, it indicates that you have an uneditible (Birthday or Subscribed) calendar selected in the CALENDAR Sources pane of the iCal window. Just click on the appropriate calendar to make the change.

  • Color coding events within a single calendar

    I need to color code different types of definable events within a single calendar, a feature I have with my old Now Up to Date calendar, but I'm trying to switch over to the Apple calendar.   I understand different calendars will themselves show up as different colors, but this is not what I need.
    Is there a way to do this? If not, is there a  3rd party calendar that is sync-able to multiple devices  that has this feature?
    I'm currently running  OS 10.8.5 on an iMac, 10.1 on a Macbook Air, and OSX 7 on an iPad. I'm waiting to upgrade all to the most recent OS when I am sure I won't need my old versions of software..
    Thanks!

    The color codes are simply a different color for each new calendar you add. I have a mobile me account and it added a few new calendars and each calendar has it's own color so when you view them all it will show you the specific calendar color in which the event is from.

  • Non-gui/swing event in java possible ?

    Dear Members :
    Is it possible in java to raise and catch business events, as is possible in other languages, I know.
    For instance - when I create a vehicle instance, that will trigger an event which will add that vehicle to vehicle_list(List) - something like that ? I am aware of Observer/Observable, but that is only if the source changes.
    Could someone please explain with syntax if that's possible, I mean, tackling any kind of business events in java ?
    Thanks in advance
    Atanu

    There is no out of the box event model... and be careful how you phrase these things... and in you are pedantic enough the pattern reveals itself.
    What notifies the sales people that a new car is ready? It's not the Car itself is it? How about the factory? You're getting warmer... Who else does the factory tell? Maybe the tax man?
    Yeah... Observe/r/able was a good first thought.
    And... You might want to look into the Spring framework... I think you're groping for AOP.
    Cheers. Keith.

  • I want to identify those photos which are not included in events so I can process them

    I want to identify those photos which are not included in the Events folder so I can begin to process these photo which remain

    Sorry but your post makes no sense
    Please identify the versions of iPhoto and of the OS that yu have and exactly what yoru problem is
    There are no photos in iPhoto that are not in an event - iPhoto works on a library basis and every photo in the iPhoto library is visible in an event and in photos view - there are no photos that are not in both
    If you are seing something different then either you are looking in the incorrect place or you have a corrupted database - but to help you you need to provide details and symptons
    Your example is simply not possible
    Lets say I have 100 pictures in my iPhoto program but only two Events.  In one Event, I have 20 pictures.  In the other Event, I have 30 pictures.
    All 100 photos are in an event and all 100 photos will show in photos view

  • What are the internal table events

    hi experts
    can u help me for this

    Hi ramesh,
    There are basically internal table events are as below...
    at first / endat
    at last / endat
    at new / endat
    at end of / endat
    sum
    on change of / endon
    Use the at first and at last statements to perform processing during the first or last loop pass of an internal table.
    Use the at new and at end of statements to detect a change in a column from one loop pass to the next. These statements enable you to execute code at the beginning and end of a group of records.
    Use the sum statement to calculate totals for the rows of a control level.
    Another statement you can use to perform control break processing is on change of. It behaves in a manner similar to at new.
    on change of differs from at new in the following respects:
    It can be used in any loop construct, not just loop at. For example, it can be used within select and endselect, do and enddo, or while and endwhile, as well as inside get events.
    A single on change of can be triggered by a change within one or more fields named after of and separated by or. These fields can be elementary fields or field strings. If you are within a loop, these fields do not have to belong to the loop.
    When used within a loop, a change in a field to the left of the control level does not trigger a control break.
    When used within a loop, fields to the right still contain their original values; they are not changed to contain zeros or asterisks.
    You can use else between on change of and endon.
    You can use it with loop at it where . . ..
    You can use sum with on change of. It sums all numeric fields except the one(s) named after of.
    Any values changed within on change of remain changed after endon. The contents of the header line are not restored as they are for at and endat.
    <b>Reward Points if it useful....</b>
    Thanks and Regards

  • Moving photos within events

    How do I MOVE photos within events?

    You can't.
    Events are automatic organisation based strictly on date and time. Manual sorting is not available. Put another way, Events are a very basic organisation for those who don't want to think about it.
    Use Albums instead. They are much more flexible and include Manual Sorting. You can create an Album of an event simply by dragging the Event to the Album heading in the iPhoto Window. Albums simply reference photos in the Library and so involve no duplication - they take up no extra disk space.
