  • Are the Wifi problems fixed yet?

    Hey,
Im from the UK and currently holidaying in the US. I really want an I-pad, and am thinking about getting one whilst im out here, but am very concerned about the wi-fi issues and having problems returning the Ipad to stores in the UK since it isnt out yet.
So, have apple sorted out the issues with the wireless connection as i think its probably going to be the deciding factor on whether i buy or not.
    Thank you,

    Greetings,
Although there are some people having various issues with their WiFi, I am not one of them, nor are the folks in our users group - the nearly 200 of them that have iPads, so far.
I have taken my iPad to many locations that have WiFi and have yet to experience any abnormal issues with connectivity, throughput, staying connected, etc.
I, and nearly all of the folks in our Mac Users Group use the Apple Extreme Base Stations, at home, and at work we use Aruba, or Juniper WiFi equipment.
None of us use that junky stuff like a lot of ISPs give out, or Linksys, D-Link, etc - most of the other home type network stuff. I do have a high end Netgear, that I use as an extender at one location, and have no problems with it, thus far.
Most of us in our users group are IT professionals, of one sort or another, so I wouldn't expect us to have very many issues, except if they were for hardware reasons. At this point, I don't see any, or we would be having issues, at least some of us. We just had a meeting last night, and I brought this up in the meeting, and the response was that they were having nothing out of the ordinary - just the usual stuff you'd expect with WiFi, from time to time.
I haven't used my iPad in an area where they are having issues - actually I'm not sure where to go looking. Maybe I can find some folks with the cheap, to low grade routers, and give it a go. I was just in McDonalds, and it worked well, but I don't expect Mickey Ds to use cheap stuff. It worked at the airport yesterday, but I was only connected a half an hour or so.
I also frequent Starbucks every workday morning, and have shown the iPad off each day since I got it on that wonderful Saturday. Since that time, over a dozen other folks have gotten one, and every one seems to be happy. I see most of them almost every day at Starbucks, or a couple times a week.
This little device has been a Godsend for me - I use it with my Exchange Mail, my MobileMe mail, I depend on the Calendar, Address Book, use it for note taking, and access ing my files via AirShare, and a couple of other file access methods. It's a damned fine business tool, and was the chief reason I bought it in the first place.
Nope, I see no problems here, on my end, but I do see people on these forums complaining about various issues - some are ridiculous, to almost a non-issue, and others are self inflicted.
I would expect an update at some point in time to help folks with the lower end equipment, and those with poor setups, configs, knowledge, etc
At any rate, I'm enjoying the heck out of mine for business and pleasure - now if I could just get the College to pay for it..........
    Good Luck All,
    M.

  • My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

    Hello Douglas,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the built-in iSight camera on your MacBook Pro.  I recommend the following steps for this issue:
Important: Follow these instructions in order. Test the camera between steps to see if the issue is resolved.
    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • ICal Problem with Mobile Account/Home and where are the calendars stored

I am using MacMinis in an office with my MacPro SnowLeopard Server running LDAP with NetworkHome accounts. Almost everything works except this ical is driving me nuts.
The problem is iCals don't sync with the NetworkHome. When I look in usr/library/calendars a new calendar appears there but it won't sync on to a different machine.
What is even more frusterating, if I disconnect the server so I am just logging in locally, I can delete all the calanders in usr/library/calendars, but when I log back in the calendars just re-appear. So where else is ical storing calendar information?
    thanks
    jake

where else is ical storing calendar information?
in a folder in usr/library/syncservices/local. You will have to look in the clientname.txt file in each of the folders to find which one is for iCal.

  • Embedded Google Calendar problem(FIXED)

I found the problem. It was a problem with the calendar itself (The calender I edit, not the embedded version) I just had to set it so the calendar was shared.

I read your other post and I may have to second the opinion of the other poster that we may need to see more.  It does not mean that something is wrong with the code you posted from Google, but if there is another error in your code, it could cause their code to not function properly.  If you cannot post your code for whatever reason, please be sure to run your page through the validator ( http://validator.w3.org/ ) and ensure there are no coding errors.  With that said:
When I am in design view on Dreamweaver it appears as a gray box. When I am in live view it works perfectly.
This is an expected behavior.  You are pulling content from an external source.  Until you turn on live view, or preview in a browser to make the internet connection to grab the page, there is nothing DW can show you.
Also when I go into live view 2 new codes appear on the bar on the top, obviously they are for the calendar.
I do not understand what you are saying here at all.  Can you post a screenshot?
In a browser (I have only tested with Internet Explorer since it is all we have at school) the page appears fine except where the calendar should be. that box just appears white (or maybe clear, the background is white)
Hard to say here again without knowing more.  IE version always helps because of quirks in different versions (prior to 9).  But it could be a firewall issue or it could be the damn Google bug that seems to never be fixed ( see this Google thread if that sounds like your problem - http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/maps/thread?tid=7e6c7959493cd6cd&hl=en ).

  • In Mountain Lion - where are the calendar files stored?

My wife synced her calendars with icloud and google calendar and wiped out her events. I have backups on a HD and Time Machine but I do not know where the calendar files are stored in ML.
I previous OS's I would look in Application Support but that does not seem to work in ML.
Where can I find these calendar files stored.
    Thank you

They are in ~/Library/Calendars, where the '~' represents the user's home folder. The problem is that that Library folder is invisible now. You can easily access it by holding down the option key and choosing Library from the Finder's Go menu.

  • What are the known problems of the nano

I'm going to get a new Ipod soon. I don't know whether to get the nano or the 5th generation Ipod. From what I'm reading the nano has a lot of problems. I'm really leaning toward the nano though. I just like how it's smaller and sleek look. I don't want a big bulky mp3 player in my pocket. I want it to feel like there's nothing in there. But after reading a lot I'm really reconsidering. Are these known problems (songs are not being fully played, freezing, problems turning off and others I'm not aware of) really common? Should I get the 5th generation instead? Money isn't the issue, its the quality and realiability I'm worried about.

Scooby I just want to tell you that you dont have to worry anything about the Nano. If you do research on the internet on the Nano only problem you will find is the scratching. Now for the other problems, those are the ppl that actually got a faulty one and all of them are posting so it seems that all the Nano's are faulty when it was just few 100 ppl that reviewed and posted. So this is what to do.
Just either order from Apple or buy one. But PLEASE PLEASE DON'T OPEN IT UNTIL YOU GET A CASE!! TRUST ME NO MATTER HOW CAREFUL YOU'LL BE, YOU WILL SCRATCH IT!! So buy a quality protective case.

  • Tracking down which unindexed foreign keys are the biggets problem

I joined a new project recently. I checked prod and our biggest bottleneck is unindexed foreign keys. It is high enough that I can see that it is causing problems. So I ran a query and got a list of all the unindexed foreign keys. Unfortunately there are about 80 of them. This application was inherited. The last team lost the project and I think one of the issues is with an off the shelf application (which we can't get rid of).
I really don't like the idea of adding 80 indexes in a big rollout. It is too big of a change to do at once. It is also hard to measure whether those indexes may cause other problems. So what I would like to do is take my Enqueue waits for unindexed foreign keys and somehow figure out which unindexed foreign keys are causing us the biggest problem. With this many there is a strong possibility that some of these tables are having their parents hit more than others and some of these tables are blocking other sessions more than others.
any suggestions on how to do this? It doesn't need to be exact. However, Id like to propose adding indexes that will give us the biggest bang for the buck.
I am not sure how to take my system wide enqueue/deque waits down to particular tables being hit with DML that cause locking on child tables that in turn cause other sessions to be blocked.

The type of query you need would be something like:
    select
            blocking_session, current_obj#, substr(to_char(p1,'xxxxxxxx'),-1), count(*)
    from
            v$active_session_history
    where
event like 'enq: TM - contention'
    and     session_state = 'WAITING'
and     sample_time between sysdate - 1/24 and sysdate
    group by
            blocking_session, current_obj#, substr(to_char(p1,'xxxxxxxx'),-1)
/The counts would give you relative time for blocking due to each "current_obj#" - which you'd have to look up against object_id.
I've also broken this down by blocking_session_id, and the lock mode (which ought to be 4 or 5) - 4 would SUGGEST simple parent/child collisions, 5 would SUGGEST that the probem could be exacerbated by "on delete cascade" constraints.

  • Are the shared libs fixed in 815?

The client lib (libclntsh.so) in 8.0.5 was broken. It's missing
the symbol slpmprodstab located in ~/lib/scorept.o. So, you
can't even connect. It's easy enough to fix (link scorept.o into

It's not broken. From note 68151.1:
In release 8.0, it was decided that a lot more oracle products
would be linked to the client shared library, libclntsh.so.
In doing this it was realised that the symbol slpmprodstab
was resolved differently for each product and so could not
be included in the shared library. On platforms where this
practice has been adopted (e.g. Solaris) extra, product
specific, object modules have to be included to resolve this
    symbol. Peter Hatch (guest) wrote:

  • Is the curves problem fixed?

I abandoned lightroom 4 when the curves problem was identified.
Is the curves problem really fixed in lightroom 4.1?
I have many images that I have modified in lightroom 3.6 with extreme curve adjustments. Will these images import correctly into lightroom 4.1

Hello Victoria, Thank you for your reply. I am looking forward to importing my catelog to Lightroom 4.1. This however poses another question. When I open LR4.1 it appears to use the same catelog as my LR3.6.
When I import my LR 3.6 catelog to LR4.1 will it convert the existing 3.6 catelog or make a new LR4.1 catelog?
If I wish to continuing having 3.6 available after converting to 4.1 Will different catelogs be maintained?
How do I import my entire 3.6 catelog if I did not do it when LR4.0 was originally installed?
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Are the replacement Heatsinks fixing people's Random Shutdown problems?

Is the replacement heatsink (the shorter one) still the method of choice from Apple for fixing Random Shutdown problems?
Is it working for people who've had it done recently?

Does this max out the CPU?
Yes. People who advocate this are testing to see if it's possible to induce a "random" shut down.
Why would anyone want to do that?
Good question. I've seen two reasons put forward: (a) It's better to make it happen now yourself rather let it strike out of the blue at some later date (and if running this test doesn't induce RSDs you can feel confident that your computer is probably immune); (b) If you take your MacBook to an Apple Store it could be useful for demonstrating to an Apple "genius" that your computer has the problem, especially if your shutdowns are infrequent.

I've had my ipod touch from Nov 2011, and just recently I have noticed the ipod touch home button is getting stuck and that I have to push the button hard for it to work. Sometimes it works with a slight touch. I put assistive touch on so that if i have any problems I can get an easy fix out of it.
