Are the CD based learning courses provided by sun really worth it?

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to know whether the following course was worth pursuing and whether or not it gives you hands on training? (setting you tasks to do after each step etc)
http://uk.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CDJ-275-SE6.xml
My main concern was, I didnt want to sign up to something that just chucks theory after theory at you, was hoping more for a bit of theory, a few excercises so you are confident to start creating projects after your course.
I'm hoping someone has some experience in the following course and could give a good insight?
Thanks

The course is good, but it's not a confidence builder. Get a personal attitude coach for that.
It will teach you skills, but no language course will teach you how to run an entire project. Take project management training, architecture training, and design training for that.

  • What are the steps to remove SMS Provider traces from a server

    Hi,
My client's environment is set up with a standalone primary site. They decided to install a second SMS Provider on a site system also running the Reprting Services Point to provide redundancy in the case the SMS Provider on the primary site
    would go down.
They experienced a problem with the server running the second SMS Provider and it went down for about a day. The behavior for SCCM console users was to get an error message preventing them to connect to SCCM; they had to close the console and re-launch it
so it would randomly connect to the SMS provider on the primary site successfully. When a SMS provider is down, it seems the console won't redirect itself automatcally to another provider when trying to connect.
Since it was causing some frustration because console users had to launch it several times before they could connect, someone removed the second SMS Provider using the Site Maintenance wizard on the primary site. The thing is the wizard ran while the second
SMS Provider was down, it removed traces of this SMS Provider from the site configuration, but couldn't remove the actual SMS Provider files and registry entries since the server was down.
Now, only one SMS Provider is active on the primary site server, but we have orphaned SMS Provider files and registry keys on the site system server. Is there a way to remove them cleanly? The site system is still running the Reporting Services Point, so
we cannot remove everything related to SCCM.
Now we prefer to keep a single SMS Provider on the primary site server, since SCCM is not consider critical to the business anyway, and to avoid this issue in the future.
My guess would be to reinstall the SMS Provider from the Site Maintenance wizard and remove it after, but I just want to have feedback from people who might have deal with it in the past.
    Tnx for help
    Patrick

    Hi,
Could you install the SMS Provider from the Site Maintenance wizard while SMS Provider files and registry entries are still there? Please have a look on the thread below, although it is for sccm 2007.

  • What are the fft based algorithms DIAdem is using?

Greetings!  I am relatively new to DIAdem and am trying to find some basic information about how DIAdem is performing some calculations, specifically the FFT based functions.  The DIAdem help does not cover in depth what I would like to know and I cannot find anything on NI's website or these boards (yet) that does.  I did find one post that discussed the algorithms used in DIAdem Crash Analysis (originating from the NHTSA?) that gave a very good discussion, but this is specific to Crash.  Is there a similar paper for the algorithms within DIAdem?  Yes, I have run the same data through both DIAdem and an app we currently use and the results are very close, but this anecdotal evidence is not enough to satisfy the folks I work for.  Can someone point me in the correct direction?  Thanks!

    Hi,
DIAdem is using several different FFT algorithms, depending on the version of DIAdem and the mathematical function. The basic FFT, witch is calculating the real/imaginary part out of the time signal, is well defined. Each algorithm gives almost the same result. There are only very small differences on the last bits of the float values. The basic FFT algorithm is usually not very large. It is easy to use different functions or libraries depending on the needs. The results have to be the same in all cases.
DIAdem 10.2 is using a new algorithm which is able to do FFT calculations with any number of values, not just the power of two. This algorithm is also used in other NI-products like LabVIEW. A large afford is going into the quality and speed of this algorithm because not only the simple FFT but also a number of additional functions like the sound and vibration toolkit for LabVIEW is depending on this.
The difficult part, when it comes to comparison between DIAdem and other FFT calculations, is always the large number of options. You need to know the number of values, sampling frequency, window function, window correction and the averaging. You can calculate peak, rms or power spectrum and so on. Depending on the options, you can get very different but still correct results.
Crash is much more a question of standards. Starting with sampling frequencies and ending with precise defined algorithms to get a result like the HIC-value witch has to be reproducible and comparable between cars from different vendors all over the world.
As soon as you start to do real world FFT calculations there are so many options and possible ways do get the results you need, that it is impossible to discuss all of them in a documentation of a Software like DIAdem. You could write a series of books about this.
If you have specific questions about the FFT results, you can give it a try and ask on this forum.

  • What are the query types,Objects CRM provides for third party

What are the query types,Objects provided by the CRM so that it can be called by third party for integartion pupose.

First, that statement - and those materials - refer to the "legacy" StreamInsight query/adapter model. They do not refer to how things work with the Reactive model introduced in version 2.1. Specifically, it talks about Dynamic Query Composition (DQC).
You cannot use a deployed Observable in another instance of StreamInsight. You may be able to use them across applications in the same instance - off the top of my head, I'm not sure. I'm getting ready to get on a plane but will take a look at it later.
Typically, however, applications act as containers (comparable to .NET AppDomains) so I don't think that you'd be able to do this easily. That said, the code and assemblies
can be reused across multiple instances/applications. You would have separate instances of the classes involved but you would be able to reuse the query logic. That's a common use case.
Can you be more specific about your use case and what you are trying to accomplish here? It's possible that there are alternative ways to do what you are trying to do.

  • What are the requirements for Learning SAP WAS 2004s?

    Hello all,
I came thru from different streams like started my career as a DB2 Developer and next worked as ETL developer on DataStage EX next I jumped to IBM SOA and there I learned the SOA stack and again shifted to SAP's ESA and worked for middle ware tool XI 3.0 for 10 months.
Up to now I didn't have stability. Till now with my analysis and got to know that in future the entire scope is for Infrastructure and Business Intelligence side.
So I opted for Infrastructure side SAP WAS.
Can any body explain how the path should be implemented to stabilize in this WAS area.
As I want to be geek in OS and DB abstraction?
As I want to be  good programmer in Java?
As I want to be an exposure on ABAP?
As I have to be familiar with normal Administration knowledge?
    Any more things...!!
also explain about how the difference between old legacy SAP BASIS and WAS 2004s.
Can some techiee, pl take it into hand and explain in-detail.

    Hi,
    Check things like

  • Where are the updates for Flash CS5, CS5.5?  really?

Why are these small upates now full versions requiring hundreds of dollars to upgrade?  I understand when software makes large improvmenets to upgrade, but
CS5 should be able to support the new AIR 2.5 or 2.6 systems through a simple update.  These items don't seem like major feature improvements, but more like simple updates to the AIR 2.0 publisher that is already there?  In fact they were in the labs.  same with the iphone packager... these are small updates and extrensions to our CS5 package.
In fact, I see several discussions showing people how to hack and upgrade that on their own.  I'm confused...  I'm also not stupid, and know why there is new releases from companies, I do it as well with my software, but does anyone else feel that CS3, 4, 5, 5.5, + there is such slow improvements...
I  personally feel that those who spend $2500 dollars on a piece of software should get some kind of support and longevity out of the software, such as the one above.  Nothing wrong with having new design features in CS 5.5, but basic publishing upgrades to stay current with your flash player that we as developers are trying to support,  seem like should be a courtesy more than anything.
I'm done venting, but I'm sure I'm not alone...

  • What are the functionalities provided by SAP ECC 6.0 (Logistics Execution) for inward and outward transportation?

The Transportation Module provides a very detailed functionality to capture & control the transportation both inward and outward. However there is a set of transaction codes in SAP ECC 6.0 which may provide some functionality on transportation.
Can Logistics Execution provide some basic control in the absence of Transportation Module? Also what are the advantages Transportation Management module provides over Logistics Execution in SAP ECC 6.0?

    Hello Prasad,
For ESS and MSS you do not require special data from the backend side, If a person has master data maintained in PA30, He can see his personal details in ESS, For that employee should maintain the Portal user id in Infotype 0105 , subtyp0001.
With that userid he can able to enter the portal and maintain his details. Same is the case for MSS , Manager should have maintained 0105 subtype 0001. and he can see the details of his employees in MSS application.
For ESS you need to have Portal
    SAP_ESS
    PCUI_GP
    BP for ESS
You can check the following link :

about the compatibility of Support Packages..
All the above mentioned package should be deployed on Eneterprise Portal.
You can search on various blogs also about this information.

    Hi,
There are various differences between the two.
    1. SQL Server is only Windows, but Oracle runs on almost all Platforms.
    2. You can have multiple databases in SQL Server, but Oracle provides you only one database per instance.Given that the very term 'database' has s different meaning in the two products, this "difference" is absolutely meaningless.
    3. SQL Server provides T-SQL for writing programs, whereas Oracle provides PL/SQLWhich means what? Both products have a procedural programming language. They named them differently, and the languages are not interchangeable. Means nothing in comparing the features/strengths/weaknesses/suitability to purpose.
    4. Backup types in both are the same. (Except Oracle provides an additional backup called Logical Backup.)You make that sound like "Logical Backup" is something more than it is. It is nothing more than an export of the data and metadata. Many experts don't even consider it a backup. I'm sure SQL Server provides the same functionality though they probably call it by some other name.
    5. Both provide High Availability.Well, I guess they both have a suite of features they refer to as "High Availability". But what does that really mean? The devil is in the details. Remember, the two products don't even agree on what constitutes a "database".
    6. Both come in various distributions.???

If you are going for an Implementation, you can try SQL Server Express Edition and Oracle XE which are free to use.
Then you can choose whichever is comfortable for your needs.
    Thanks.

  • What are the differences between US and EU?

    Hello,
I'm thinking about buying a MBP 15 inch 2,6 GHz but I'm not sure if I should buy it in the EU or US. The US has a much lower price then in the EU but I heard that the voltage differs. Though this problem is easily solved I wondered what other differences there might be to protect myself from unpleasant surprises. Please reply and tell what you think I should do and what differences there are.
the price differs about 800 dollars, so I really want to consider buying in the US. but I don't know the problems that come with it. I live in the Netherlands by the way.

    {quote:title=Davinovic wrote:}I heard that the voltage differs.{quote}
AC voltage in the US is different from Europe (~110 v ~240v).
In terms of power, the MBP itself is the same everywhere. It takes DC current supplied by the external MagSafe Power Adapter. The Power Adapter is designed to take AC voltage input in the US and EU but is shipped with modular physical plugs suitable for the country in which it is intended to be sold. So if you buy a UK model, you get plugs to fit UK power outlets. In the US you get US plugs. Even though the plugs for the power adapter are modular, I've never seen them for sale separately (that doesn't mean they aren't). A new Magsafe Power Adapater is ridiculously expensive, one of mine packed in recently and I was shocked by the £58 price tag.
As someone else pointed out, the difference in physical keyboard is the most significant physical difference. If you regularly type in a language other than US English, you are likely to be used to a different keyboard layout. You will be able to type all the characters with various modifier keys but it will be awkward in comparison to having a keyboard designed for your language if one is available. I use British English and find a US keyboard annoying even though the differences are minor. If I primarily typed in a language that uses lots of accents (e.g. French), I'm sure that I wouldn't put up with it.
As others have pointed out, by the time you factor in local US sales taxes and import duty, the price advantage doesn't seem so significant but of course that is for you to judge.
Enjoy your new computer no matter where you choose to buy it.

  • What are the pre-requisites for learning OA Framework?

    Hi,
Im new to oaf,can any body help on this
What are the pre-requisites for learning OA Framework?
    Karthik

In order to develop any OAF Application you need to know few concepts before doing any kind of development. The concepts are basically the Business Components for Java(BC4J) components.
    They are:
    Application Module(AM)
    Entity Object(EO)
    View Object(VO)
    Association Object(AO)
    View Link(VL)
Now let us see the description of each component.
    Application Module:
Application Modules serve as a containers for related BC4J components. The pages are related by participating in the same task. It also defines the logical data model and business methods needed. They provide the transaction context and also used for establishing database connection. AM’s can be nested to provide more complex AM’s.
    Entity Object:
EO encapsulates the business logic and rules.EO’s are used for Inserting,Updating and Deleting data. This is used for validating across the applications. We can also link to other EO’s and create a Association object.
    View Object:
View object encapsulates the database query. It is used for selecting data. It provides iteration over a query result set.VO’s are primarily based on Eo’s. It can be used on multiple EO’s if the UI is for update. It provides a single point of contact for getting and setting entity object values. It can be linked together to form View Links.
    Association Object:
An association object is created where we link EO’s. For example take the search page where we link the same EO to form a association between the manager and employee. Every employee should have a manager associated. But if it President then no there is no manager associated. This is a perfect example to understand the AO.
    View Link:
A view link is an active link between view links. A view link can be created by providing the source and destination views and source and destination attributes. There are two modes of View link operation that can be performed. A document and Master/Detail operation.

    Hi..
Can any one suggest me what all the pre req's that i need to learn so that i can learn XI. I am new to this field, so can any one suggest me how to start?
    thank you.
    kishore karnati

    Kishore
If you know basic concepts of Java, ABAP and XML it would be a added advantage to learn and understand XI very quickly.
As you may XI is SAP's middleware solution, providing integration capabilities for SAP and non-SAP solutions alike. It is becoming increasingly important in any SAP implementation, mostly because it makes integration to SAP systems easy to implement. Also, SAP's newer solutions like SRM and MDM use XI's capabilities natively.
SO if you are interested in working with XI, that is agood thing. It is quite different from EP though, because EP is very user and front-end oriented, whereas a good XI implementation is invisible to the end-users.
An certification is a good thing to have, and XI is no different. But as in any other SAP solution, the certification is no substitute for hands-on experience on XI... which is what you must get as soon as you can.
