Are the dimensions of a 2014 macbook air the same as the 2012 model?

I want to buy a full body protector for my 2014 macbook air  but the only one advertised on a particular website I'm looking is for the 2012 model. Will it fit?

Can the RAM be upgraded in a 2014 macbook air?

The MBA officially has never been upgradeable - what you buy is what you get forever. Until the 2012 or 2013 model (I forget which) 3rd party SSDs were available but since then even 3rd party SSDs haven't appeared.
    Through 2012:

The internal camera on my macbook air stopped working. The camera is non available in settings also. Please help.

Check if it is a hardware issue. If it is take the MBA to an Apple dealer.
Apple menu / About the Mac / More Info / System Report.
On the left, under Hardware, click on USB. The right side will show the USB Device Tree. Check to verify the camera is listed. Should be called Built-in iSight. If it is not listed, take the computer in for a full diagnosis.
If the camera is listed, click on Launch Pad then click on Photo Booth. Do you see anything?

  • How reliable is the 2014 MacBook Air and its PCle Flash storage?

I'm planning on buying one from my local Best Buy, but I don't know how reliable it really is. I love the idea of having all day battery life, which is a huge plus for me, and the thinnest of it is simply amazing. I did heard that it has some sort of SSD, which I'm assuming it's PCle flash storage, that makes things so much faster. I don't know anything about them, so correct me if I'm wrong. But is the SSDs reliable? just don't want to get something that's going to be a paperweight in a year. I was expecting to keep mine for, let's say, 3 or more years, which is what I usually do with my notebooks.
Anyway, long story short, is the MacBook Air durable, and worth the investment?

That's good. So, in other words, the early-2014 MacBook Air model - with PCle flash storage and a Haswell processor - is a good notebook that should last me a very long time (with proper care)? I'm going to college soon, and I was planning on sticking with this notebook for 4-8 year - for college work, and every day (casual) use. I heard MacBook Airs, or any MacBook with a SSD, are extremely reliable, but I don't know if that's true.
I never bought a MacBook  so please forgive me if my questions are annoying.

  • The u, j, m and 7 keys on the keyboard are not functioning properly on my macbook air. Please Help!

The u, j, m and 7 keys on the keyboard are not functioning properly on my macbook air. In its place are a random assortment of keys (Ex - u = "eqrw" or "IOUY"). This randomly happened when logging back in after sleep mode. No liquid damage at all. Please help!

OK, I fixed the problem by doing a SMC (System Management Controller) reset as follows:
    1. Powered off my MacBook and removed everything connected except for the power chord.
    2. When powered off, I held "Shift" + "ctrl" + "Option" + "Power button" for 5 seconds or so until the little light on the front started to blink rapidly.
    3. Powered up my Mac, which took a little longer than usual to start and tested the "missing" keys which now works perfectly again.
Just added another couple of years usage with my aging mac :-)

    Hi perriejunn!
They might actually be the same Apple ID. When you have an email and use it to log into iCloud it will create an iCloud alias for you. I have an @live.no appleID, which also has an @iCloud.com alias that are otherwise identical.
If you log into applied.apple.com with the @gmail.com account you should see the @iCloud.com as an "alternate" email address.
You might also have created a new iCloud account/Apple ID when you used iCloud the first time. Then this @iCloud.com will not be connected to you @gmail.com address or any other mail addresses. You can then log out of that Apple ID at Settings>iCloud and log in with this @gmail.com Apple ID and sync contacts.

  • 2014 Macbook Air + guitar overdubs

    Hello,
I am tempted to purchase the new 2014 Macbook Air (11-inch).
My question: will the machine be able to handle multitrack recording in Garageband?
Obviously disk space will be an issue, but that is ok. And obviously the 8GB ram upgrade would be beneficial, and a guitar > USB cable would be needed. But will I be able to have a few tracks of midi drums, and then create multiple guitar overdubs with low latency?
Or will the Macbook Air struggle with the work load?
I went to an Apple store yesterday and asked the question but the genius said the 1.4ghz processor would struggle and I should consider an i7 iMac!
If the Macbook Air can't handle it I'll just continue using my old PC which can. But I really want to make the jump to OS X if possible, because I love my iPhone and iPad.
    Many thanks for your help.

Webroot is the likely culprit.    Most antivirus software slows down Macs.   In general good safe computing practices are sufficient to prevent viruses.  No peer2peer software.  No opening of attachments from unknown sources.     No opening of attachments that have extensions that Macs can execute (.exes are harmless unless Windows is on the Mac).   If you must have anti-virus ClamAV or Sophos are better.
Ask the authors of Webroot how to completely remove their software so you aren't left with lingering effects.

  • Audition CS5.5 not working on 2014 MacBook Air

    Greetings!
Just upgraded computers (from a 2008 MacBook) to a 2014 MacBook Air (13", Early 2014).  I had Audition CS5.5 on my old Mac so I deactivated it, installed it on the new Air and activated it.  Everything seemed to install smoothly, but when I open the program and open an audio file, it just doesn't work, plain and simple.  I hit play and nothing happens. I try with the spacebar and nothing happens.  The play button lights up, but nothing plays.  I can add effects to tracks and see that changes are being made in the waveforms, but can't listen back.  Even after making changes, I cannot save those changes.
    The specifics:
    13" MacBook Air (Early 2014)
    1.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Running OSX Yosemite (10.10.3, same as my old MacBook with no issues)
As for Audition, it's CS5.5.  There don't appear to be any updates available.  I know that I can upgrade to CS6 and I have no problem paying the upgrade charge, but will only do so if I know for a fact that the issue will be resolved.  And honestly, unless there are earth-shattering updates, I'm perfectly happy with 5.5.
So there it is.  Anyone have any ideas what the issue could be?  I've done some searching, but can't seem to find anyone with the exact issue I'm having.  Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    Thanks ryclark!
I checked the audio settings and all appeared to be right. Just to be safe, I re-selected the correct options.  The right drivers were also installed, but again, I re-selected it just to be sure.  And viola!  It worked!
Very strange.  So essentially I changed nothing, but not it works.  Can't thank you enough for the speedy response!

  • 2014 Macbook Air running slow?

My 2014 Macbook Air seems to be running a little slower since updating, I have a lot of memory available and I haven’t downloaded anything from the web. I’ve also done the resets and emptying cache in Chrome and all that, it started running faster after that. I don’t know if its just chrome or the whole system.

  • Handoff not working between iPad Mini Retina and 2014 Macbook Air

So, I've upgraded to Yosemite today on my 2014 Macbook Air and have updated to iOS 8.0.2 on my iPad Mini Retina.
Both are on the same wifi network. Both have bluetooth enabled and are paired.
Both have handoff enabled on them.
With all that, I cannot for the life of me get handoff/continuity to work between them. I've reset both machines and reset network settings on the iPad but still no joy.
    Am I missing something?
PS I don't have an iPhone, but I'm assuming it should work between an MBA and iPad?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello JMC1989,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like there is a problem with handoff. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • How can I automatically "retract" all windows from my Thunderbolt display back to my MacBook Air when I disconnect the display, esp if the Thunderbolt is the desktop with the white menu bar?

I am in and out of my office with my MacBook Air.  I would like to set it up so when I plug in my Thunderbolt display in the office, the Thunderbolt display has my desktop, menu bar and the open windows.  If I set the Thunderbolt display to mirror by MacBook Air it adjusts to the lower resolution of the MacBook Air, which is a waste of a cool monitor.  I can set it up as an extended desktop and drag the white menu bar to the Thunderbolt display so it displays my desktop but if I then disconnect my MacBook Air, the menu bar is absent and all the windows that were seen on that display are absent, as if it I was still attached to the larger display.  The only way around this is to go to Thunderbolt display preferences, drag the white menu bar back to the smaller display and manually drag all windows to the smaller display before disconnecting.  Doing this multiple times per day is a real pain.  Is there a way to set my MacBook Air to recognize when it is attached to the Thunderbolt display and automatically my desktop and all open windows to it and then do the same process in reverse when I unhook it?

It's definitely not supposed to work like that...when you plug the display in, it should just turn on and adjust your displays.  It works like that on my MBP.  Kind of a silly question, but do you have the MagSafe from the display plugged in your MBAir too?  Thats a requirement.  Beyond that, it should "just work."
Not sure if there is some setting to enable...i haven't seen it.  Call to support?

  • I just purchased a macbook air, and because of the limited memory (256 gb) and my HUGE music library, I need aomne form of external storage.  i am considering either using iCloud for iTunes, or purchasing an external hard drive.  suggestions or opinions?

hi!  just purchased a macbook air, and because of the limited storage (256 gb) and my massive music library, I am going to find an alternative storage method.  I am debating between an external hard drive and utilizing iCloud. icloud makes me a little nervous....having my entire library in "the cloud" and deleted off of my desktop - do most of you who use icloud for music and photos have a backup on external hard drive anyway? So....iCloud vs. external hard drive for storage.  Thoughts?  opinions?  thanks!

iTunes Match allows you to put 25,000 songs in the Cloud. At present it isn't possible to add more storage but I wouldn be surprised if that isn't an option offered in the future. With iTunes Match you allow Apple to match your songs (purchased from Apple, ripped from your own CDs are purchased elsewhere). When Apple cannot match a song a copy of yours is uploaded.
Once the match process is complete (for my 24,000+ collection it took a couple days) the fun begins. Since my MBA can't hanle all my music, I use iTunes Match to download a small selection of my music every couple of weeks. My music remains in the cloud even when I delete them from my computer and if I have WiFi accesss I can get new songs. It is a great service and much more convenient than keeping your MBA's music on an external drive.

  • How do i access the email folder on my macbook air?

how do i access the email folder on my macbook air?

OS X doesn't really encourage users to tamper with that folder.  Instead, the idea is to use your email application to keep your mail data in order.
What are you trying to do?

No computer can do a thing without using memory. 1.5 GB is very little. It's normal.
3 or so hours from a full charge may also be normal, for what you are doing. As batteries age, they don't last as long on a full charge as they did when they were new. All batteries eventually wear out, and are easily replaceable.
