  • Finding the Serial Number for AppleCare Protection Plan

I am trying to register my Laptop to the Protection Plan, but I can`t find the serial number. When I do, do I type everything? I thought I found it, but they say its not valid. Can someone please give me an example to me? Thank you very much!!

It is unlikely that the Serial appearing in System Preferences is wrong. Could I suggest you make absolutely certain that you are quoting it correctly.
Could I also suggest that you make the registration and buy the Apple Care by phone. You may have to actually transmit the money other than by quoting a card number. In any case you have a human to keep you right on the serial. The first step is to make sure that the serial is correct.
You can print out Sys Prefs. However it is a big file especially the section on the Applications and Extensions. I would suggest you display the first section with the serial> select the text>copy text to clipboard> paste into a fresh Text Edit document. You can then print that out to post to Apple if need be, send it by email or whatever.

Just so you know this was posted in the Apple TV section. To answer your question, it is not possible to extend beyond the 2 years

I was hesitant to purchase this protection plan at first about $70, but the customer service agent reassured me that there were no deductables and thats why I bought into it. But now that I look around on the support site, I see that it says that there are up to two incidents covered for a service fee of $49. Did I really get duped?

If the issue is a manufacturing defect, there is no cost to have the device replaced.
If the issue is a result of user damage (like a cracked screen) and you have AppleCare+ Apple will replace the device for the minimal fee of $49.  They will do this up to two times during the timeframe of the protection plan.
If the issue is the result of user damage and you do not have AppleCare+ then the Out of Warranty replacement cost is $199 for the 4S.
No, you were not duped, you were simply not completely informed.  Whether that was a result of them not sharing all the information or you only hearing what you wanted, no one here knows.

Since the only thing needed in that box is the small piece of paper with the (very long) registration code on it (usually found inside the booklet), see if that is actually there and, if it is, call Apple at 800-275-2273 and ask to be transferred to the Applecare department. Here is the link to the Applecare plan - just in case you may need it, see the fax numbers listed under para. 9 (Cancellation).

I need to modify an incorrect mailing address on my AppleCare Protection Plan certificate. After I registered a new product with AppleCare I realised that I'd entered the wrong postal address during the registration process and now I need to update my details to show my correct address. I've been trying for several hours to find a way to modify my address on the AppleCare site, with no success. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Why Apple sent an Certificate of AppleCare Protection Plan for iPad 3 by Post after 4months after I bought the products?

Ironically, many have said the exact opposite (service was quick, easy, painless, etc.)

  • My AppleCare protection plan wont register. I enter the number given and the correct serial number for my macbook but it wont work.

I have entered the correct registration number for protection plan and the correct serail number but it fails. I am outside calling hours (as I dont have protectionplan lol) and am eager to get it up and running.

Call AppleCare during regular hours and they'll register it for you. In the meantime, there is nothing for you to "get up and running" except your computer, and you don't need to register AppleCare to do that.

  • Does anyone know the difference between the Applecare Warranty for the Macbook Pro and the Applecare Protection Plan Auto Enroll 607-8192-B APP FOR MacBook

Does anyone know the difference between the Applecare Warranty for the Macbook Pro and the Applecare Protection Plan Auto Enroll 607-8192-B APP FOR MacBook

AFAIK, the difference is that the auto-enroll occurs automatically when you purchase the device and you will have to disburse the cost right there and then. Whereas the other comes in a box, can be purchased separately later and you must manually enroll your device into the system to activate the additional protection. This must occur before the base one year warranty is over.
So, if you don't want to pay up at the moment you buy the computer, you can wait up to say 11 months and buy the AppleCare warranty extension later. Just be sure to complete the enrollment BEFORE the base warranty is over, else Apple will not honor the extension (all in the fine print). This applies to all devices that offer an AppleCare option: notebooks, desktops, iStuff, etc.

Do note that the Safeware Insurance is NOT AppleCare, though it may be worthwhile in its own way. If you call Apple and tell them you purchased it, they will not be able to help you.
    Best of luck.
Nor did I imply that it did.
Of course they won't if their coverage has expired as the op will in August!

  • Can I get Applecare Protection Plan even after the expiry of my base warranty of one year ?

I have just completed one year of my base warranty for my Macbook Pro 15'. I am thinking of going for Applecare Protection Plan however while checing online I realized that I can do that only when my base warranty is still in effect. Now as I have run out off that Can I still go for Applecare Protection Plan and is it really worth.

If your one year warranty has expired, then sorry you can't buy another 2 more years.
AppleCare certainly was worth it on my last MBP, it went in for a hard drive, optical drive replacement.
If you backup well, you should be able to take care of yourself.

  • Lost Applecare protection plan?

    Hey guys,
Almost a year ago, my brother bought my Macbook Pro, and picked up an AppleCare Protection Plan a few days later. I apparently lost the documentation before I was able to register, and just now my MacBook Pro is starting to act up.
    1) First of all, is it even possible to purchase AppleCare without giving my Serial Number or anything else that ties it to my computer?
    2) Am I basically screwed out of my AppleCare since it was bought separately at a date I'm not sure about, never registered, and I can't find the documentation?
This is really important to me, and my warranty ends the end of the 5th, so any help at all would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    - Keith

Nope it's not registered, which is what I thought. But is it really possible to buy AppleCare without giving any identifiable information as to what it protects?
An AppleCare Protection Plan for a MacBook (or iPod or iPhone or Mac Pro tower or display) is a stand alone product. It is sold in many places just like any box of software. It's up to you to open the box and enroll the product using the serial number. When you purchase an APP you do not need to provide a serial number. The purchase is not the transaction that enrolls the plan for your product. If you never used the enrollment number in your box to apply to the serial number of your product over the phone (or online or by mailing in the enrollment card), then your product can't be covered.
If you buy your computer at an Apple retail store and purchase an APP at the same time then they will ask you for your contact information when you pay and they can enroll it for you right then and there. But, if the product and the APP are purchased separately, they're not tied together until you go through the enrollment step.
If you have a receipt for the Mac and a receipt for the purchase of the AppleCare Protection Plan, you can call AppleCare Support (in the US at 1-800-APL-CARE), there will be an option to talk to someone about AppleCare itself rather than "technical support". A person there can probably contact an AppleCare specialist you can fax your receipts and the enrollment number and they MAY be able to enroll your computer. If you don't have both receipts and the enrollment number, they won't be able to help you.
If you really don't have the original AppleCare Protection Plan information, I'd suggest you buy a second copy and enroll it with the new number. If you find your original plan's information later, you can resell it to someone else who can use the enrollment number to apply to their Mac's serial number.
