Are the recommended color setting still these??

OK- I took the jump and downloaded the Beta version of LR3!! I had my old version set to:
Export to PS as TIFF
Color space: Adobe 98
Bit depth 16
resolution 300
I took these from Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom 1. Are these still the best setting to use? I have PS CS2 set to Adobe 98, as well as my camera. But if something has changed that I don't know about, I can always change it all!
Thanks

You should also see a ppRGB setting in PS, but that really doesn't matter. What you do is to set up the preferences in such a way that when you hit "Edit in Photoshop" it uses a ppRGB 16-bit tiff. In LR 2 this is done in the "external editing" tab. I don't remember whether the preference was in a different place in LR 1. CS2 should be set up in its color settings (edit menu I think) to always respect embedded profiles.
And how in the world would I set it to be one thing back and forth between LR and PS and another when I export? I don't see an option to export it from either LR or PS in a different format then it is worked in.
In LR, when you do an export (this is done from the File menu -> export), you get a whole list of options for file format, sizing the image, etc. In the File settings part, choose jpeg and sRGB for the color space. This will give you a jpeg in sRGB regardless of the source of the image. If you want to go to sRGB in Photoshop CS 2, you first need to convert to the sRGB profile in the Edit menu -> convert to profile.  Then you use Save As or Save for Web and Devices. In CS2 Photoshop was not smart enough yet to do the conversion for you in Save for Web and Devices.
Are there people that you can hire to come out and set all of this up for you??
I'm sure there are, but I've never met one. Unfortunately, knowledge about color spaces, file formats, etc. is sort of basic necessary knowledge just like knowledge of the characteristic behavior of different film stock and such was necessary in the analog age. One thing to think about is to go to a digital photography class at a community college or such or do a workshop on Lightroom somewhere. They often will have all this in their curriculum. There are also lots of free Lightroom training videos on Adobe TV (google for it) that deal with these things.

Select the text, and open the Appearance palette (Come on guys, text highlight is irrelevant, it happens to objects too says the OP), and see what's listed there.  For a simple text object, there should only be a line item "Type", followed by "Characters", and when double-clicked the Characters line item expands to tell you the stroke and fill color.  For a basic object, there should be a fill and/or stroke.
What happens sometimes, is that you end up adding extra strokes/fills to objects or text, and the appearance palette is where that will be noted.  Especially when you are dealing with groups, and/or picking up a color with the eyedropper, you may inadvertently be adding a fill or stroke on top of something.  You can drag those unwanted thingies from the Appearance palette into its own little trash can.

We will customize a very detailed reply, but
    (a) What are the properties of your source media?
    (b) What did you or the program set as the project preset to match the properties of the source media?
    (c) What specific requirements do you have for this H.264.mov export file?
File size can be a compromise between bitrate, file size, and quality.

Are the Kuler color schemes and individual colors associated with pantone codes?
How do you find the pantone reference for a color in a color scheme?

    Hi Monika,
What is the reason that it is possible to search for (explore) color themes from within the Color Themes panel in InDesign and Photoshop, but not in Illustrator? Seems a bit odd…

  • Why are the primary colors located on the vectorscope where they are?

It seems that things would be simpler if one of the primary colors were at the top, bottom, left, or right of the vectorscope. Why is that not the case, and why are the primary colors located on the vectorscope where they are?

Probably really only because of tradition based on the way analog vectorscopes drew the trace.
Notice that red is farther out in an analog system, but smaller allowances in digital systems.

  • Where are the Gradient color presets in CS6?

    Hi,
I've gone from CS4 to CS6 and when using the Gradient tool, there used to be a properties box that you could open with a whole list of preset color gradients to choose from, i used to use the 'Black - White' one all the time, which kinda blurred the edges, made a transparent gradient and allowed, for want of a better word, montages to be created easily, but now this function seems to have gone. Is it hiding somewhere that I don't know about? Or alternatively, can someone advise me on how to get the same effect that the Black White Preset used to give me?
    Thanks a lot
    Jules

Yeah, those gradients are gone in CS6. On the one hand, most of them were pretty cheesy; on the other hand, it's a bit surprising they took away those presets but still didn't offer users a simple way to save gradients.
One way that you can save gradients is as Styles. As an experiment, I actually did this one day for the classic Fireworks gradients. Once created, styles can be saved as a library, where you can call on them from within any FW document.
Another way to quickly create a black and white gradient is by setting the fill and/or stroke colors, which are the basis of gradients. You can reset the default fill and stroke colors within the Tools panel. However, this can be tricky, at times, depending on what objects are selected and what type of fill they already have; it can be easy to accidentally apply a stroke to an object this way. Alternatively, if Stroke is set to None, then setting Fill to Black will result in a black and white gradient when you switch to a gradient Fill type.

  • All screendumps are the same color in PS, but from Internet browser

    Hi,
I know this has come up a thousand times before, and I thought I finally got the basics covered. I've been reading up on several webpages explaining all this, but it's confusing me even more as I think it should work.
Try to follow me on this:
I recently upgraded my pc, added a nice HP LP2475w monitor to the mix, and bought a ColorSpider for calibration.
This all works fine and the calibrated profile is loaded every time I start up my Vista pc. You can see the colors slightly shifting as the profile becomes active.
I work with the basic sRGB ICE61966-2.1 profile in PS CS4, but what I noticed is that any screendump, from any app is fine when pasted into PS.
But colors from any screendump from a internet browser, for instance a bright orange in the browser (IE8/FF3.5) becomes a dull brownish-orange in PS.
    So,
The first confusing thing is that opening the saved .psd file in -say- XNView will show the 'original' colors from the browser.
The second strange thing is that the saved .psd file will show exactly the same colors in Bridge as in PS.
The annoying thing is that I cannot sample accurate colors from a screengrab dumped in PS, unless I change the color profile of the file to 'monitor color' (Spider profile).
But changing color profiles away from the sRGB one is bad as all webpages state.
Also, what is -again- confusing, if I save the file with "Save for Web & Devices" the colors 'pop right back' with the preview set to "Monitor Color". Even without the "convert to sRGB" checkbox checked.
Somewhere in this copy/pasting/saving there's some oddball CM going on that I just don't understand for screendumps from the browser.
I hope all this makes sense to someone, as it isn't for me and it's driving me nuts right now as I cannot use anything from screendumps out of an internet browser.
cheers for any directions in this,
    rob

Thanks for the additional information. I still have more questions than answers, however, except to say that the behaviors you see are almost certainly the  expected consequences of comparing managed and unmanaged color apps.  I am not clear what you are comapring to what, and what your final output wants to be compared to and where (web, other PS users, print,..).  Firefox 3.5 can be color managed, but it is not simply on or off. You have to specify if it is on for all rendered images or only tagged images and you also have to choose your rendering intent. Finally, you should make sure that FF is finding your monitor profile and if it is not to specify its path explicitly. This is especially important in your case since your new monitor is considered (by some) wide gamut, meaning larger departure from typical monitors (sRGB- like).
Here is a statement from your original post that I do not understand:
"but what I noticed is that any screendump, from any app is fine when pasted into PS. But colors from any screendump from a internet browser, for instance a bright orange in the browser (IE8/FF3.5) becomes a dull brownish-orange in PS."
This seems to be  a separate  problem unless I am missing something - I could use another coffee today.
If a screedump from any app is fine, then saying the screen dump from one app (your browser) is not fine, is inconsistent. A screendump should be simply a set of numbers, not a file and it will be considered and untagged image and  any such image should render in Photoshop  the same whether it came from a spreadsheet app or from some website you are viewing with your browser. That is, any differences between the original image on the screen and how it looks in Photoshop should be independent of the app from which the screenshot came.
I know you have a real workflow issue, though I am not sure exactly what you want. Probably need two coffees !

  • What are the recommended optimum import settings for pictures into FCP

I'm using FCS 7.0 and about to start a project / slideshow with about 700-900 pictures. The images are currently slides but will be converted into digital images. What would be the recommended settings / format to have the pictures converted into digital images for Final Cut? Also, any advice on the sequence / timeline settings as well would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Look at this first...it's designed for stills...and when you're done you can export it for use in FCP

  • What are the recommended steps to upgrade from CF7 to CF8

I have read all of the documentation for how to upgrade from
CF 7.02 to CF 8. Well there is actually only one blurb in all of
    the CF docs.
"Upgrade installation You can upgrade from ColdFusion MX,
ColdFusion MX 6.1, and ColdFusion MX 7. When upgrading from
ColdFusion MX, ColdFusion MX 6.1, or ColdFusion MX 7, the installer
preserves the existing settings and installs in a new directory,
automatically assigning ports that do not conflict with the
    existing installation."
OK that sounds simple enough, so i went ahead and installed
it. Well it did not work, now I am stuck somewhere between 7 and 8.
My basic step, as I can best recall at 1:00AM.
    * Select Multi server Configuration
    * Select install path, I used D:\JRun4
    * This is where my existing cf7 install was located
    * installer told me port 8300 was being used so it gave me
    port 8306 instead
    * Selected d: for ColdFusion8DotNetService install path
    * Select Passwords for admin and rds
    * installed cf
    * received error after install
    (Adobe_ColdFusion_8_InstallLog.log)
    ANT Script Error:
    Status: ERROR
Additional Notes: ERROR - jrun.xmlUnable to remove existing
    file D:\JRun4\bin\jrun.exe
    * rebooted
    * can't login to cfadmin at port 8306
    * tried to login to cfadmin at port 8300, everythin works
    * it appears the cf7 services are still running,
    * didn't notice any new cf8 services, excpet the dotnet
    stuff
    Any assistance would be appriciated.

Essentially CF comes with the updates that will become JRun 4
    Updater 7
integrated into it. (The beta of Updater 7 is under way).

Use the CAR file, XML file formats have changed between
    versions.

What you are describing is a simultaneous update of JRun and
    CF. For
just an update of CF you need to redeploy the CF EAR file as
    described
in the JRun manual. For just an update of JRun you have to
    wait until
updater 7 is released (or join the beta and file bugs if you
    don't like
    the procedure).
    > Another possible option would be to update JRUN with the
    latest release,
The latest release is only updater 6.

    the JRUN console and

Use a CAR file for that.
    > This seems possible to do it this way but does not seem
    as clean at all.
In place upgrades are never clean. In my book, an upgrade
    means
    rebuilding from scratch.

Do you have the recommend value of "Parameter Sets Controlling IPC Resources"
    for Tuxedo8(32-bits) on Sun Solaris8.0 (64-bits) ?

    Hi Asgorath,
Unfortunately I do not have an answer for you but I
am experiencing the identical problem on a HP
Proliant BL25p Blade Server. Here is my hardware
    config:
CPU - Dual Opteron 2.6 Single Core
    Memory - 16gb
Controller - HP Smart Array 6i
    Logical drives - 1 (2x72gb RAID1+0)
I have tried the same things as you and I still get
intermittant boots. Power on and off does not always
work as the system still hangs. It's totally hit or
miss. Once it soes boot it seems to work fine. I have
also installed the latest Solaris 10 for x86 Patch
Cluster in hopes that some of the kernal patches
would fix the problem. So far no luck as the system
continues to hang...HARD!! HP was out to my site
today and the Eng. is going back to the group that
qualified Solaris10 on the HP Blades and see if they
have any input. If I receive anything back I will
post it here. I know this post is late and if you
have resolved please post your fix.Hi doc42755,
I have not come up with a solution as of yet, if I do come up with a solution i will most certainly post it here.
However, if you find the solution could you let us know in this thread aswell.

  • 4.6C to ERP6.0 Upgrade - what are the recommendations for Unicode and Java

    Hi All,
    Forgive such a basic question.
We are just beginning to look at our ERP6.0 upgrade and am unclear whether we should convert to unicode at the same time, and also what are the uses for the Java stack.
    Unicode?
We are a single language Latin-1 site so don't need Unicode. However will it become mandatory eventually? Are we better, if we have the opportunity now, just to convert. Also I believe the Java stack is only Unicode. Does ASCII ABAP and Java Unicode complicate things?
    Java?
Will we need it? We are proposing a technical upgrade from our 4.6c Javaless environment. Where does Java come in to play in ERP6.0? Doesn't it increase greatly the iSeries HW requirements? (I'm looking at a 2 way 550 at the moment)
Look forward to hearing your views.
    Regards
    Steve

    Hi Stephen,
at the moment, in a latin-1 environment Unicode is for old customers not a requrirement. This might change in 5-10 years ...
Java: No problem at all with ASCII (in latin-1 environments)
=> there is no need for you, but you could go for it. We did several Unicode conversions already and these Latin-1 conversions are pretty easy and simple especially on iSeries, because of the special InPlace Unicode Conversion.
... but this can be done at any time ...
