Are their any graphics cards supported above gtx 690

So I am starting school and I wanted to make sure the laptop I buy is supported fully. I was looking at the list of supported graphics cards for After Effects and i noticed that the 700s and 800s are not listed. I am thinking it may be that the list is just out of date (I hope)

a simple Google search brings up the official list:

Any other cards may or may not work for GPU accelerated effects in AE using the Ray-traced rendering system, but this rendering engine is obsolete and will not be undergoing any further development.
A better list to look at are the Mercury playback supported cards for Premiere Pro.

I would make my choice from this list.

The above gentlemen are correct, and there is absolutely no need for a "certified" card they both work fine you may have to add the proper name of the card to the Adobe "cuda_supported_cards.txt file". Take a look at our Premiere Pro BenchMark PPBM5 and see many non-certified nVidia cards on the list

the graphics performance on my new 2.8 imac is slower than the 2.33 i bought 11 months ago.
I dont get this. if your trying to save money then at least use the last generation graphics chip vs installing a new poor performer like the 2600?

HI there I have core 2quad 6600 processor of 2.4ghz, and intel classic series fb33 motherboard, with only onboard video ram shared with physical ram of 2gb.
I want to install cs5 on 64bit OS and upgrade total ram to 8 gb without buying any graphic cards(right now). Qn is will I be able to edit avchd videos? will the
mercury engine still be enabled? I know its kinda "no budget, want all qn" Right now I dont wanna buy a card as am plannin to buy new system later..

Yes, of course, you are correct, Harm. I was over-simplifying.
I Took the OP's "enabled" to really mean "accelerated", and in that sense, it will not work as without the necessary graphics card there will be no acceleration.
I can certainly support your third paragraph, having just moved from a four-year-old system with a quad 3 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM and a hacked 460 GTX graphics card, to a Sandy Bridge E system with a 3930 CPU, 32 GB of RAM but the same graphics card and HDD set up (for the moment). Your oft stated "molasses in winter" describes my old system pretty well from my present viewpoint!
The old system coped with the fairly gentle HDV, provided I kept the number of assets down, but threw a hissy fit if I tried 1920 HD, even with the Matrox (I know, I know!) I-frame codec.

You would be better off upgrading along my path - motherboard and processor first, using as much as you can of your old system for now, as this allows much better scope for future upgrading.

Premiere will use just about any graphics card to write to the screen so you may see what you are doing
For hardware MPE you must use a specific nVidia card... or a non-supported nVidia card with a small hack

The NVIDIA should work with the PCI-E 1.1 bus that your PC has in it. You might want to search this forum for NVIDIA 650 compatibility issues.

I've installed DirextX 9c on my pc.
I'm training on the Java3d libraries, but I got a problem, with my first example:

Have you tried updating your OpenGL version? Java 3D may need that for somethings that DirectX can't give...?

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!!!!!!! I have eight (8) of the ThinkCenter M57 6072 HDU running BIOS 2RKT64AUS. I have E8400s in a couple of them @ 3.0 GHz from the stock E7200 2.66GHz. Paid $65 each of the M57s at an online goverment surplus site. The machines are used by our kids for general homework and League of Legends, Warcraft, etc. The onboard graphics would not run these games. Purchased a ASUS Radeon HD 5450 Silent 1GB DDR3 64BIT PCI-E DVI-I HDMI HDCP Passive Low Profile Video Card for about $35. ***FAILED TO POST***. Purchased a VGA GIGABYTE|GV-N640D5-1GL RTL (NewEgg or NCIX) and it installed, posted, booted, and graphically scored 7.1 on Windows Experience Index and over 1300 on Perfomance Test 8.0 from Passmark Software. Card cost $100 (not on sale) Also purchased a pair of non-matching GT630s (~$65-100) and a GT610 (~$55) to try along with the GT640 but when they all came I started with the GT640 and never looked back. RMAd the others and bought six(6) more GT640s; only six(6) because I killed one of the motherboards updating the BIOS with the E8400 installed!! Only Flash with the correct CPU in I guess. I also intalled a ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 Channel PCI Sound Card 24BIT Dolby Digital DTS 105DB SNR W/ Headphone AMP for $35 and it went in the available PCI slot and now these machines rip and scream. The slowest part of these machines is the memory and the HDD. Easy to put in a nice SSD if someone wanted. And I might experiment with the E8400 machines with some faster memory. I was wondering if there are any sound cards that have the best driver support for ArchLinux? I currently own a Creative Labs X-FI Platinum Edition. The main reason I like the Platinum is that has an interface you can plug MIDI and Audio ports into. It seems to me, however, that Creative is the worst company to support Linux drivers. If anyone has any opinions, please feel free to comment. According to all my research, ALSA sound drivers are the most supportive for sound. Am I also correct in this assumption?

I just bought the ASUS Geforce GTX 750ti STRIX OC Edition (without external power connector).
After I installed it, I wont get past the HP welcome screen. It gives one beep 3 times, and then 1 and 2 short before the screen turns black.
My computer is:
HP P7-1072sc
(I have installed a 500w power supply.)
Running on windows 7
Anyone have any ideas?

There is a BIOS update posted for you PC but I don't think that it will solve your problem. You might want to install it and see if anything changes.
You may have to RMA the graphics card back to ASUS. ASUS may be able to flash the BIOS on the card to make it work or replace it with a different graphics card that will work.
Many of the NVIDIA GTX 750 graphics cards are enabled for a full UEFI BIOS PC and your PC is not at that level.

Will any SB card support gameport in VIS

I know that Microsoft stopped supporting gameport in VISTA. They do not want to do such a easy work, but they have written driver called "Unsuported gameport" with digital signature and hardware compatibility punch :-/
But what's my problem. I have a lot quite expensi've gaming devices. Unfortunately they are:
Microsoft Sidewinder gamepad (gameport version) - 4x .. my best gamepads ever (profi arcade shooting games)
Microsoft Sidewinder Racing Wheel (gameport)
I have not find any working gameport->USB converter (I have tried even 3 !!!), so my preffered devices do not work in VISTA. But when they were sold in shops, there were slogans like "undestructible, lifetime, rubust..." And now Thrash
So I need to know, if there is any chance that any SB will have working driver for gameport in VISTA

What type of footage are you editing?
Just because Premiere Elements doesn't fully utilize your graphics card doesn't mean it's not a good editor for you. In most cases, Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements are such efficient editors that they don't need to access your graphics card in order to perform very efficiently.
So don't confuse "doesn't support" your graphics card with "doesn't work" with your graphics card. I have a very high end graphics card on my computer, which comes in very handy when I'm editing motion graphics with After Effects and HitFilm. But, for video editing, Premiere Elements works terrific without needing to take advantage of my system's advanced graphics capabilities.
So what kind of footage are you editing and what is it that you need your photo and video editors to do that they're not doing?
