Are there any known conflicts?

Hi
I have a FireMax External enclosure with two drives in it that are RAIDed togehter (as a mirror)
It plugs in to the back of the tower into a Firewire 800 port.
By itself its fine, the computer recognizes it etc however when I plug in my camcorder into one of the remaining firewire 400 ports things go wrong.
for instance,
- Final Cut Pro will not load
- I movie will not recognise the camera etc.
- If I "Eject" the drive and shut it off, there is no issue. I can capture to disks 1 or 2 internally but I want to capture to the external drives because they have more space.
The enclosure is new and the camcorder is new as well. (within a few days)They just dont want to work together.
is there some setting that might be causing this conflict?
have you heard of any precedence for this?
anything you can think of might be helpful.

for some reason my specs dident make it to the post - hopefuly they will this time (I can see them on my side listed as "other details")
ok, the first time I captured the clips, it was with a rented Canon XL2. They all appeared to capture correctly but while editing, I realised that some clips were missing.
When I checked the original digitalized footage, I found that some of the clips must have become corupt as they would not play in QuickTime.
By this time the XL2 went back to the rental shop, so I tried my home camera to recapture - but then I find out that there is something wrong with my FW port on my camera!
I went through the list, checked the cables (even bought a new cable) but nothing worked.
Then I thought it was the Mac so I tried a pc, with sevearl different programs to try to capture the footage but nothing doing - none of the programs would see the camera.
So I took the camera to a computer shop and likewise, found that none of their machines would see the camera either.
SO...I bought a new camera specifically for this job. Its a Canon ZR 800 -- [the tape loads from the bottom which ***** cause if you have it on a tripod, you need to take it off the TP AND unscrew the TP mount just to change the tape! - I hope they can fix my "old camera".]
Anyway, by itself, the ZR 800 talks to both FCP as well as I-Movie -- but NOT if the FireMax Drive is present.
And yes, I tried daisy chaining them togehter -- camera to the FireMax (@400) to the rear the G5 (800 port)
and I tried individually as well - FM to the 800 and the camera to one of the 400 ports.
and I know that the ports are working cause you can plug the external drive into any of them and the G5 will see the drive.
There is only conflict when they are togehter.
One guy mentioned to me that there is a special "power bus" that the FM can plug into? Does that make sense? Its already plugged into its own power source.
As it is, I have to capture to drive 2, then copy to external, then clean up drive 2.
