Are there any recommended image optimization settings?

While trying to optimize images for my website ( http://gameboilers.com/ ) I used a tool named 'RIOT', but I am not confortable with that since I am a Photoshop user and likes utilize its potential to the fullest. I tried different preferences while saving processed images, but wasn't satisfied with the result. Can anyone tell me about some recommended settings that I can use to optimize images using photoshop CS5 ?

Hi
You can use Save For Web... option from File menu.
As for me, I usually use JPG file format with quality of 60 for photos and GIF formats for drawings and logos. GIF provide better lossles compressiob but can save 256 colors only.
PNG is best option if you need transparency.

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • I have Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4, Quickbooks Pro 2010, Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac, Operating in Windows 7.  Are there any recommendations for running Quickbooks Pro 2010?

I have Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4, Quickbooks Pro 2010, Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac, Operating in Windows 7.  Quicbooks Pro 2010 is not responding or opening currently. Quickbooks does not support Parallels anymore.  I hear Apple Bootcamp is an opton.  Are there any recommendations for running Quickbooks Pro 2010 on Mac?

QuickBooks Pro 2010 for Mac is not supported in Lion. QB Pro 2011 will work, but I just got an email today that 2011 will not be updated to work in Mountain Lion. QB Pro 2012 will be updated for ML.
Be aware that the Mac version of QuickBooks is shamefully lacking in features compared to the Windows version. I do use the Mac version, but it has more features than I need for a small business, so it doesn't affect me. No one knows why Intuit seems to hate Mac users, but they show it every day.
If QB Pro 2012 for Mac can be downloaded as a demo, I would strongly suggest testing with it before making a final decision. You will be able to import the Windows data, but possibly not all of it, depending on the Windows version features you use.
Boot Camp allows you to install Windows on its own, bootable partition. When you boot to it, you are of course running Windows in every sense of the word. Just on Mac hardware rather than typical PC gear. Your Windows version of QB will work there without issue. The problem is having to boot back and forth between Windows and OS X, depending on what software it is you need to use at the time.

  • Are there any recommendations for virus checking/removal programs for the Mac?

Is there any recommendations for virus checking/removal programs for the iMac and MacBrook Pro running OS 10.6.7?

as has been said, you need no AV on your Mac. more info here: Mac Virus/Malware Info.
if, however, you exchange files with windows users on a regular basis, you might want to install ClamXav lest you pass an infected file on without realizing it.

  • Are there any Tools for changing settings of the PMU?

    Hello everybody,
does anyone know a tool to access PMU-Settings?
As the manual says, my PowerBook does only recharge my battery when it is below 95%. I would like to change that, so charging will commence only below 20% or so.
With 95% I always have to remove my battery when on AC to prevent it being reloaded 4 or 5 times a day from e.g. 80% up.
I would just like to save charging cycles and by that extend battery life.
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Andreas

    Hi Andreas --
I'm not aware of any way to alter the re-charge settings of your PowerBook's Power Management Unit (or any other of its settings).
However, in light of your stated concern about "saving charging cycles," I don't think you have anything to be worried about.
Here's an excerpt from Apple's Lithium Ion Battery support page concerning the definition of a battery's "charging cycle:"
Charge Cycle. Using and recharging 100% of battery capacity equals one full charge cycle.
A charge cycle means using all of the battery’s power, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a single charge. For instance, you could listen to your iPod for a few hours one day, using half its power, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two, so you may take several days to complete a cycle. Each time you complete a charge cycle, it diminishes battery capacity slightly, but you can put both notebook and iPod batteries through many charge cycles before they will only hold 80% of original battery capacity. As with other rechargeable batteries, you may eventually need to replace your battery.
My read of the above is that a charge cycle doesn't occur every time you recharge your battery, but rather every time you use all of your battery's power. So, it's of no moment whether your battery recharges once a day or five times a day, the critical issue is how much of the battery's power has been used on a cumulative basis.

  • Are there any recommended group policies to consider for users consuming SharePoint?

Hi - we are close to going live with a  new SharePoint 2013 farm and the question of GPOs has come up. Havn't seen any best practice or recommendations about this so was wondering if anyone in the community has any views?
    Cheers
    J

The major group policy settings that you should engage with your NOS managers involve security settings: service account security settings, network storage security settings and local security settings.  if you do not build your knowledge of these interactions,
you may encounter highly arcane and deeply perplexing performance issues and even failures that appear to have no immediate cause that you can quickly point to and resolve.
    Service Account Security Settings
All service accounts used in your farm should be domain service accounts.
Some of these accounts must have read permission to read the properties of all other service accounts.  Such accounts include: farm service account, user profile service account, SQL server agent account (the account you assign to run your SQL server),
and the workflow manager 1.0 service account.
For example, if you will be creating SQL Server backup maintenance plans, you must give the the SQL Server service account the permission to read the domain account that you logged in as to create these maintenance plans.  I discuss this more
    here.
    Network Storage Security Settings
The search service account needs RW permission to the network folder you use to store farm backups (the backups created either through CA or via PowerShell).  If it does not have this, a backup performed through CA or via PowerShell will succeed in
everything except the Search portion.  This was not the case for 2010.  Why the search service account now needs to touch a backup folder is completely beyond me.  But there you have it. I discuss this more
    here.
    Local Security Policy
The Search Service accounts must have these local security policy user rights assignments or your search service performance will deteriorate markedly: Adjust memory quotas for a process, Impersonate a client after authentication and Replace a process
    level token.
Likewise, be sure to assign these user rights assignments to the farm service account: Allow log on locally, Adjust memory quotas for a process, Impersonate a client after authentication, Log on as a batch job, Log on as a service and Replace a
    process level token.
More of these assignments are discussed
    here.
Your GPO is likely pushed out on a regular basis (eg, every half hour), so, it may overwrite any settings changes implemented by an installer or configuration wizard.  Not configuring these settings correctly can lead to highly arcane and perplexing
problems, manifested in error messages that do not provide real troubleshooting assistance.  The problem is that Microsoft has not documented these various security settings needed by SharePoint service accounts and processes down to the level discussed
here and as noted above.  This is also one of the reasons I believe why Microsoft strongly recommends that you perform all installation and subsequent configuration using the SharePoint Setup User Administrator account (eg, spAdmin): this account
is used to configure a wide variety of registry entries and folders and is granted the permission to edit these as necessary.  Your administrator account may not be.
Another area for GPO attention involves firewalls.  For example, you need to make sure that the Windows Firewall on your SQL Server instance(s) has appropriate rules configured to allow inbound and outbound traffic.

  • Are there any recommended tutorials on custom Exceptions?

I am interested in writing my own custom Exceptions for my code, but I don't know where to begin. There doesn't seem to be such a tutorial on the Sun site, so recommendations on where to go would be very helpful. Thanks.

Digital Tutors has some good stuff

But you need to register an account for both of them.  Lots of titles out there if you look though.
The Bert Monroy titles on Lynda.com are also very good, but a slightly different style.  More illustration that digital painting.  Take a look at his huge Times Square graphic to see what he does.  Zoom way way in to see the incredibly detail

Loads of of tips and tricks in Steve Caplin's 'How to Cheat in Photoshop', and even better '100% Photoshop'.
Good luck and have fun.  By far the most enjoyable way to use Photoshop in my opinion.

  • Are there any additional audio imput controls other than settings ?

I am having issues with an USB microphone, and unless I turn the settings (in audio imput ) all the way down to about 2%, I get distortion from the mic being too sensitive ( and have to place it several feet away from the source)
Are there any other controls I can use to reduce the volume IN, in addition to the slide adjustment in the Sound Imput box ? is there a Gain adjustment ?
    thanks

Depending on the device, you probably are not going to see any input gain control options in either System Prefs > Sound or Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup. There might be some app that comes with the USB mic that will have some additional options, but I have not had much luck with these apps from the audio device manufacturers, nor with the drivers that come with them. If you are using the USB mic for input for a recording app like Logic, then there are gain controls there.
It's way easier to just use an audio output mic and a USB interface or mixer, which is why the vast majority of professional sound recording people don't use USB microphones.
I use a pretty cheap (less than 100 bucks) interface, which actually has a gain knob right on it.

I have posted this annoying Robles to bugreport.apple.com. Hope I can get locution (although Apple normally will not respond):
On a software name Appfresh, it alerted me to update my MBPr 15 inches running latest OSX 10.8.2, with Chinese Word List Update 1.2. When I clicked on Software Pdate, app Store return No update available.
My system have Chinese Word List Update 1.0 installed, and on October 5, 2012, Chinese Word List Update 1.1 was released by Apple, as alerted through AppFresh. However, this update never get updated on m system. I have to manually download chinesewordlistupdate.pkg from reviews.cnet.com/macfixit and install it manually. By doing so, I have Chinese Word List Update 1.1 on my system.
The same problem occurred again today on November 5, 2012, where Chinese Word List Update is released by Apple. again, it fail to update from Software Update menu.
    Can you please:
    1. Explain why this problem occurred. This is so annoying.
    2. Advise me how can I get this Chinese Word List Date to update to version 1.2. Can you please send me the chinesewordlistupdate.pkg for version 1,2 so that I can manually install it on my system?
    3. How can I prevent similar problem with he subsequent version?
Why Apple don't make this update standard as other update?
Support please. Thank for response in advance

  • Are there any way to recover the deleted images form iPhone 4

    hello guy's
are there any way to recover the deleted images form iPhone 4
note : i haven't make any copy of the photo in my pc so i relay need for them
    plz help

The Camera Roll is for temporary storage as with any other digital camera. Although photos in the Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process, photos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer ASAP. If you didn't sync your iPhone with iTunes since these photos were captured by your iPhone and the photos in the Camera Roll weren't imported by your computer, the photos are gone.
Depending on how wealthy you are, you can contact a data recovery service to see if they can recover deleted photos from an iPhone's flash drive, but you will pay an arm and a leg for this. Such a data recovery service is not cheap and with no guarantee the data will be recoverable.

What happened that you lost them?
If you have synced recently you could restore the iPhone and it will restore the camera roll to it's state at the time of that sync.

  • Using Airplay with AppleTV to share my MacBook Pro desktop is very unstable since upgrading to Yosemite, are there any settings I need to reconfigure?

I used to use desktop sharing from my Macbook Pro (Late 2011, Intel Core i5) to watch videos on my TV. Since upgrading to Yosemite the stream has been unwatchable. Both visual and audio latency problems are very common. As streaming from my iOS devices is fine, I'm pretty sure it's not my WiFi setup. Has anyone had similar problems? Are there any settings I need to change to improve Airplay from Yosemite?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Are there any settings in the options (or anywhere else) that I can use to set up an auto confirm and resend without having to manually click the 'resend' butto

    There is a certain website I use that I refresh frequently. Every time I do I get a pop up message labeled ‘Confirm’ with a question mark in it that says;
“To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier."
It only seems to be a problem with this one particular site. Are there any settings in the options (or anywhere else) that I can use to set up an auto confirm and resend without having to manually click the ‘resend’ button in the pop up window?

    Hi cor-el, Thanks for responding;
I am accustomed to seeing this type of pop up on occasion and understand why they are necessary to prevent duplicating orders, payments, etc. I am not using a back button, I wanted to use an auto-refresh app to search for reservation openings on a certain web site and can not because this pop up requires me to manually push a button every time the page refreshes. I am resending the same information every time (a date range) via the POST form, so, was hoping there was a way to either disable, override, or set up and auto response so I can use the auto-refresh app. Your description of how to avoid the pop up didn't entirely make sense to me, but If I have to do a bunch of manual steps in between each refresh attempt it doesn't matter because I'm no better off.

I have two facetime users, both connecting to our enterprise wireless network (Cisco WCS) and they can't make a facetime connection from IPAD to IPAD.  Are there any apple protocols or other settings that need to be enabled on WCS?  There is no firewall inbetween the two connections, as this is all on our internal network.
Both devices can connect to the network, but when they try to talk to each other they can't make the connection.
    Thanks.

If anyone ever comes across this and has the same issue, here's what I did to fix it:
My Linksys router has a Network Mode setting, and I had to change it from "Mixed" to "Wireless-G only".  (I would've used N but one of the NICs in my house is too old to support it.)  Anyway, after making this change, Facetime works fine on the phone.  Hope this helps someone else!
