Are there any uses for a 4th. Gen AirPort Extreme that I am replacing with the 5th. Gen.?

I have been using an AirPort Extreme 4th. Gen. with an Airport Express as an extender to increase the range in my home. I am now upgrading to a 5th. Gen. Extreme in hopes of increasing my wifi download speeds. I'm told in numerous articles and posts that the 5th. gen is much more powerful and faster. I'm wondering what use I can find for my 4th. gen extreme. Can it also be used as another extender ( I read both yes and no to this question) or is there some other useful function that it could perform, or should I just give it to one of my kids to use in their home?

I have read the various articles that you linked and will try the new extended configuration using my old 4th gen as soon as my new 5th gen extreme arrives from Apple. I may also try using the express as well by going off in a somewhat different direction on the upstairs floor where the primary base unit is connected to the cable modem. My original reason for upgrading to the new 5th gen was not because the range and signal strength were inadequate, but rather to try and get some improvement in the wireless download speeds from the 4th gen extreme and the extended express. My Mac using an Ethernet connection from the extreme was delivering download speeds of 49 to 50 Mbs all the time, while the wireless download speeds to my new iPad or my iPhone 5 were only about 15Mbs coming from the extreme and 7-8 Mbs if I was downloading through the express. I have been reading lots of comments on this subject for over a year now, with many others experiencing the same problem, but Apple never really acknowledging that there was even an issue. The only solution seemed to be that people who upgraded to the 5th gen. we're getting much better performance across all performance issues. Here's hoping for success in the next few days. Ok, thanks for the clarification. I assume that Pixus has provided you with a modem that provided an Ethernet connection to your 3rd Gen AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) ... correct? If so, then anytime you change networking hardware, it is a good idea to completely recycle power on all of the networking components.
Please try the following:
Power-down the Pixus modem, AEBSn, and computer(s); leave them powered off for at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it sufficient time to initialize.
Power-up the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes or until its status light is a solid green. (Note: It may continue to flash amber. This is ok, as it may just require some additional configuration settings, like wireless security to attend to.)
Power-up the computer(s).
Network clients connected to the AEBSn, either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the Pixus modem. Please post back your results.

Are there any tools for optimizing placement of Airport Base Station

I have both a Airport Extreme B/G and a Airport Extreme N unit. I also have several Airport Express units on the network. Does any one know of any tools (Hardware or Software) that can be used to identify the best physical placement of Airport Units in a multi-story building. I need to find where the connections are breaking down and where the dead spots are located. My network works but has random problems and now that I have an Apple TV the problem is worse. If I cluster everything together in one room it works like it should. Once I place the units where I need them it breaks down.
There must be some tools that are available that can assist in the physical placement issue.

You can use something like AP Grapher to determine where wireless network coverage is working well.

Background -
My original Airport Extreme Base Station failed (would not connect to the modem). I purchased a similar, if not identical base station on eBay. Unfortunately, the purchased base station apparently was used in a password protected network. For what it is worth, my son gave me a Netgear wireless router, but it leaves a lot to be desired. For one thing, I use to keep the cable modem in the basement along with the Airport base station, with a printer connected to the USB port. The Netgear device does not have a USB port and also requires that the computer (in this case, the eMac) used to set up the network be connected to one of the ethernet ports. This meant I had to move the cable modem and router into my bedroom, a very undesirable situation. It then occurred to me that the original Airport base station Wi-Fi function might still work, and tested this hypothesis and sure enough, the Wi-Fi function does indeed work I currently have both base stations powered on, with my printer connected to the original. Both base stations appear under my Network icon, but neither Airport Utility 5.4.2 or Airport Administrator Utility 4.2 see either base station. I can select the original base station as my network, connect to the printer or even my other computers, but as soon as I try to select the new one, it asks for the password. I would like to somehow reset this base station and then redefine the network name and encryption.

I would suggest that you perform a "soft" reset on the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) that you just got from eBay. This type of reset will temporarily (5 minutes) disable both the base station and wireless security passwords so that you can access it with the AIrPort Utility to make the necessary changes.

I have installed the Beta drivers from Native Intsruments' website, but I'm starting to wonder if there's something else going on. I am running an Audio 4 DJ with my 13" Macbook Pro that has a 2.90GHz i7 and 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM. I have been scouring the NI forums, but I think it may be best to turn to the Apple community on this one. Can anyone help? By the way, I just converted from an older Dell laptop to my nice, new Mac so I am still getting new to Lion and how it is laid out.

I'm using a Remote Object to connect to my server
(pyAMF/Django). I'm getting stuck with the creation of Value Object
Classes. It doesn't seem very DRY to have a class on my server
representing the data model and then have to recreate that class
and all its properties in my Flex app.
Are there any shortcuts for creating client side VOs from
server side data?
I was thinking about declaring an empty VO class in Flex, and
then dynamically assigning/casting my Proxy object to that class.
It seems like that approach may cause problems for the Flex
compiler though.
Any hints?

I have exactly the same problem. The device was my favorite computer until 8.1.1. Now it runs s-l-o-w-l-y, requires endless reboots.
To improve the performamce, I have tried these:
1.Go to Setting->General->Accessibility->Reduce Motion. Turn on.
2.Reset iPad device settings using Setting->General->Reset->Reset All Settings. Its increase iPad performance little better.
3.Hold the sleep/wake button and home button upto 8 seconds. This will turn off your iPad. Then turn on iPad. Wait few moments. Do the same thing twice to solve this issue.
Solution 3 worked for me. And, I always recommend you to backup your iPad first before any action to avoid any data loss.

QuickBooks Pro 2010 for Mac is not supported in Lion. QB Pro 2011 will work, but I just got an email today that 2011 will not be updated to work in Mountain Lion. QB Pro 2012 will be updated for ML.
Be aware that the Mac version of QuickBooks is shamefully lacking in features compared to the Windows version. I do use the Mac version, but it has more features than I need for a small business, so it doesn't affect me. No one knows why Intuit seems to hate Mac users, but they show it every day.
If QB Pro 2012 for Mac can be downloaded as a demo, I would strongly suggest testing with it before making a final decision. You will be able to import the Windows data, but possibly not all of it, depending on the Windows version features you use.
Boot Camp allows you to install Windows on its own, bootable partition. When you boot to it, you are of course running Windows in every sense of the word. Just on Mac hardware rather than typical PC gear. Your Windows version of QB will work there without issue. The problem is having to boot back and forth between Windows and OS X, depending on what software it is you need to use at the time.
