  • HT203792 Are there specific settings for the iphone microphone?

I often sound muffled to others when using my iPhone.  I understand that there are specific settings on the iphone to cover or mask background noise.  Is it possible that I have this setting on and that is why I often sound muffled when holding the iphone between my ear and shoulder and not speaking directly into the microphone?

    Hey there hondafan53,
It sounds like your microphone makes you sound muffled to people you talk to on the phone. For that issue, I would use the troubleshooting in the following article:
If your voice is too faint or sounds unclear using iPhone, or iPod touch
    Test the microphone
To find out if there is an issue with the microphone itself—and not the app you're using or your cellular connection—test the microphone with the built-in Voice Memos app. Speak into the microphone and then play back the recording. You should be able to hear your voice clearly.
    Fix common issues
Follow these steps, testing after each with Voice Memos.
Unplug anything plugged into the headset jack.
If you're on a call and holding your phone next to your ear, speak into the microphone and make sure you don't block it with your fingers or shoulder.
If you're using a screen protector or case that covers the microphone, remove it. Clear any debris from the microphones.
    Restart your device.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
If you've tried these steps and people still can't hear you well on calls, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Are there specific numbers on an iPod to identify it?

What I mean, is are there any iPod specific numbers, that are only on that iPod? I would like to know, incase my iPod were to get stolen, or lost at school, so I can prove its mine.
Thanks for the help in advance!

The serial number of the iPod (unique to each iPod) is etched into the casing on the back of it. In addition, the serial number can be found by going into Settings/General/About>Serial Number.
However, if you were to lose it, how exactly would you go about finding your particular one? You are unlikely to be allowed to interrogate people at random, and even if you have grounds for suspicion about someone, it may prove very difficult to examine their iPod so closely. Would your school allow it?
These discussion pages are littered with posts from people who have lost their iPods or had them stolen, frequently from school. We never read about anyone getting one back.
So my advice (which you are perfectly free to ignore) is to take enough care of your iPod to ensure that it doesn't get stolen or that you don't lose it. If you are likely to have to leave the iPod unattended, don't take it to school.

  • Is there no hope for my ipod touch if it won't even turn on or get recognized by my computer?

I cannot get my ipod touch to turn on.  The computer doesn't recognize it.  I have tried all the reset options.  I have tried plugging directly into the wall with a wall charger.  I have updated my itunes!!!  There is no water damage.  HELP.  It is very frustrating to spend that amount of money and only get about a year and a half of use???

    Have you tried another cable?
After charging it for awhile see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Next see if DFU mode will do it.

  • Are there any differences to an iPod touch bought in the USA that in the UK, Are there any differences to an iPod touch bought in the USA that in the UK

If i was to buy an iPod touch in the USA are there any differences to one bought in the UK?

I'm not sure that's correct Illaass.
Unless the volume restriction (on EU iPods) has recently also been introduced worldwide, then an iPod bought anywhere inside the EU (European Union) - which includes the UK, has the maximum volume limited, compared to an iPod bought outside the EU, such as the USA.
Note that I'm not referring to the Volume Limit feature in the Settings/Music menu (which both a USA and UK iPod Touch have), but the absolute maximum possible output of the iPod.
Our glorious leaders at "EU headquarters" decided some years ago to protect our delicate little ears from harm by capping the output of EU sold iPods and since then - well, you can guess the rest, it's boring.
To some people, this difference is very important, so drhill may want to take this into consideration. The "limit" of an EU model cannot be over-ridden, although if buying one in the USA (as drhill indicates he/she may do), you can of course limit the volume to the lower EU level using the Settings/Music>Volume Limit feature.

  • What are the real requirements for an ipod touch to download Itunes-U?

I recently downloaded the newest form of Itunes and have IOS 6-something-or-another, and i can't download Itunes U to my ipod touch. When i try, the error message says " The app, "Itunes U", was not installed on the ipod because it requires a newer version of ipod software". Does anyone have any ideas? I find myself being frustrated because apple said the basic requirement was anything above IOS 5. Thank You

You can use the iTunes U app on iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch with iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5.2 or later.
You must have an iTunes Store account to download content from the iTunes U catalog.
From here >   iTunes U: Frequently asked questions
    Try reseetting your iPod.
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Then try iTunes U.

  • Is there a irefox for the IPod Touch 4th. Generation? Which one? Thanks, Paul Forgues

I bought the new IPod Touch 4th Gen the other day and I would like to use firefox on it. Safari comes on it. I could download Firefox as an app? Thanks, Paul Forgues

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices

  • Is there a warranty for refurbished iPod touch 5th generation?

I was thinking of getting a refurbished iPod touch 5th generation, but I want to know if they still come with a waranty or not.

    Guaranteed Apple quality.
Before we put a refurbished Mac, iPod, iPad, or Apple TV up for sale in Special Deals, it undergoes a rigorous refurbishment process to make sure it’s up to Apple’s tough quality standards. We back it with our standard one-year limited warranty. And you have the option of purchasing an AppleCare Protection Plan for it.

  • Is there any hope for my ipod touch .. tried to update. clicked restore and now the message i receive is The ippod "iPod" could not be resored. An error has occured (1)   could someone please help

what does error (1) mean... not able to restore iPod touch... please help

Usually indicates a hardware failure. Try restoring again, on a different computer if you can. And use Recovery Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808. If that fails then it is nearly certainly a hardware issue as I said.

  • Are there specific reasons for choosing Oracle A/S 10g OVER IBM Websphere ?

Our company runs a number of Oracle applications and currently supports both the IBM Websphere and Oracle
10g A/S application servers. We use Oracle A/S to run Oracle Forms/Reports, as
well as to interface from Oracle Advanced Queues (A/Q) to the outside world
(with JMS over A/Q). The idea being floated is to use Oracle A/S only for our
Forms/Reports server and IBM Websphere for everything else. Is there any
    downside to this ?
Is there anything Oracle A/S can do that IBM Websphere cannot ?
Would any features of Oracle A/Q not be accessible when using WebSphere ?
We are also planning to use Oracle Workflow. Would there be any advantages to using Oracle A/S over Websphere ?

'Fraid I'm not experienced in running Oracle products with Websphere but I'd have thought that the most obvious reason to use OAS would be that (theoretically at least!) AQ and Oracle Workflow should be better integrated into OAS and also recieve better support from Oracle if you are using OAS as your apps server rather than another vendor's product. The risk is that you might get into a situation where something doesn't work and Oracle say it's Websphere, phone IBM and IBM say it's AQ - phone Oracle.

  • I bought a mic for my ipod touch 2nd gen and the mic works yet when its plugged in the speakers dont work, meaning i cant hear, so skype and other similar apps are un-useable, is there a way in which the mic and speakers will both work together?

I bought a mic for my ipod touch 2nd gen and the mic works yet when its plugged in the speakers dont work, meaning i cant hear, so skype and other similar apps are un-useable, is there a way in which the mic and speakers will both work together?

Looking at the details for this mic, it appears that the app has to have the option to use the internal specak when a mic is plugged into the headphone jack. Specifically:
NOTE: When MityMic is plugged into your iPod/iPhone you won’t be able to use the onboard speaker for sound output. You must remove the MityMic then play back your recordings. (The Skype app has an option to enable the onboard speaker even when the mic is plugged in, so you could use MityMic for placing Skype calls. However most other apps do not have this function.)

  • Are there flip cases for iPod Touch?  If so, which would you recommend?

I'm in the market for an iPod Touch. I'd like to get a case/cover for it that would function the way the flip cover did on the SONY Clie SJ33 or the Palm T3 worked... much like the communicators on Star Trek!
Does anyone make such an accessory? Are there certain ones you would recommend?

Well, I've received my brand new IPT and still don't have a case!
I've researched the cases suggested here (thanks for the tips!) and scores more (far too many). I cannot seem to find a flip case WITHOUT a magnet! And given what I've read in threads here, I really don't want to risk a several hundred dollar device with a magnetic clasp case. I realize that lots of folks use them without problems, but I keep finding posts from people who have real issues!
And strangely, the Apple Store carries most of the Marware cases EXCEPT FOR THE FLIP CASE (the one I was leaning towards), which is their only case with magnets! Is Apple trying to tell us something?
(I wish I had just bought the Belkin Folio case when it was free after rebate on Black Friday from Amazon!)
As a temporary fix, I've put some thin clear vinyl wrap around the IPT (left over from trials years ago with my Palms) and will jerry rig something with my Palm T3 flip cover-- it's perfectly sized and right form factor! A Palm iPod Touch!
I'm now debating a combo of Power Support Air Jacket with the Marware Flip Vue. And simply gambling on the magnetic clasp problem!
Any thoughts? Reactions? Am I way off base for worrying about the magnets?

Due to poor broadband speed -less than 1/2 meg- updates for my IPod touch are scheduled to take up to 9 hours!.  The system usually time out.  Is there some other way to recieve update?

    Try here:
iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
Near the top of the page it says how to select what you downloaded.  Make sure you download the right update for your model iPod.  They are different.
