    You don't need to start a new thread to continue a conversation, you can just tack onto the original one. The settings I referred you to are for the Blackberry, since that's the device which is not receiving mail: anything which is working can be left alone.

  • Are these temps ok? (Core i7) (MSI Pro-E)

    Hello folks, before I started doing some light OC, I wanted to make sure that my system was stable at stock settings, without any after market cooling devices.
    My h/w specification goes like this:
    CPU - Core i7 920 D0 Stepping 2.67 GHz
    Motherboard - MSI Pro-E
    RAM- Corsair 6 Gb kit 1333 MHz
    Video card- Nvidia 9500 GT 1 Gb
    Hard drives- WD 500 Gb X 2
    Operating system- Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit
    PSU- Corsair VX450W
    I ran Mprime (the linux port of Prime95) for an hour without any issues. The temperatures were as follows:
    Idle: CPU: 25-26
            IOH: 64
    Load: CPU: 84
              IOH: 77
    I know that IOH temps are high at idle, but am getting an Antec Spot Cool fan to fix that. (thanks to the informative discussions on the forums)
    However what I want to know is that at full load, isn't the CPU temp too high ? My system didn't crash, but since I am new to this subject, please let me know what you think. Also, since it has been mentioned in the forums in threads regarding the high IOH temps that a lot of after market coolers leave little room for cooling of the heatsink...which brand/model/type of an after market CPU cooler according to you folks should I go for ?
    Also, is there a possibility of slightly OCing the system, say up to 3 GHz, with the stock cooler, or should I start saving for a good CPU cooler ?

    Quote from: Aaron on 11-February-10, 12:28:13
    84 at stock?  Something wrong there.  Shouldn't even be going over the 50s.  Make sure you installed the CPU cooler correctly.  If you reinstall it and the temperatures are the same, then the chipset heatsink is making little/obscured contact and needs to be reinstalled.  A fresh blob of TIM on the chipset wouldn't hurt either.  (Doing both the CPU and chipset coolers would not hurt one bit.)
    I still don't know why MSI's IOH temperatures are still so high.  It's been months now and they still have this inconvenience/issue.
    Thanks a lot for the information. I have re-checked and the CPU cooler is installed fine, is fixed tight. I will try your other suggestions as soon as I get the thermal compounds. Sidenote- Arctic Silver Ceramique should be fine, right ?
    Quote from: HU16E
    IOH is ok, but if you feel adventurous, new TIM & adding a nylon washer between the stock washer & spring should help. The Antec Spot Cool is a great temp reducer. All my rigs run a Zalman 9900. One reason I like it on an X58 rig, is because it gives a little passive air onto the IOH similar to the stock cooler. smile
    Added: Once you get that high CPU at load figured out, you should be able to run the stock cooler up to around 3.5-3.6 with no problem.
    Thanks HU16E, your posts on the other thread (on high IOH temps) have also been useful. I will look into buying the Zalman 9900, thanks for the info.
    I hope I haven't done any damage to the CPU by running that stress test for an hour. (n00b query: why didn't my system shutdown at such high temperature ?)

  • What are theses files for?

    I recently backed up my iTunes music to an external hard drive. I'm getting rid of my old desktop PC and bought a PC laptop. I had (on the old desktop PC) all the music stored under documents>my music.
    When I went to sort through the "My Music" folder, that holds all my iTunes music... I found music seperate of a file named "iTunes." Why is this?
    Files named:iTunes Library (date).itl I see it says iTunes Database file but what does .itl mean? Do I need that file? I understand it holds data but is it old data I don't need or data that will be useful when I transfered my music to the new computer?
    What are the "iTunes Library Extras.itdb" and "iTunes Music Library.xml?"
    The reason I'm asking these questions has to do with the fact that I am getting so many duplicates into my new iTunes library.

    Yes you need them. The ITL file holds all the organizational information about your library, including playlist and rating information.
    Your iTunes library can reference music in any accessible location. It is not necessary for the tracks to be in your iTunes Music folder, although having them there does offer a few advantages.
    If you are getting duplicates, it is possible that you have set iTunes to make copies in the iTunes Music folder, and you still have an original outside that folder. Is that what is happening?

  • Are these normal for a 2 year old macbook pro battery?

    I am wondering if the numbers I am getting on my macbook pro are normal for the battery. It's over 2 years old, going to be 3 this summer, and I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT drop in the battery health since January... I was in the high 80% range in January, but now I am down 10% at least from then. These are the numbers I am getting from my mac:
    Charge Information:
      Charge remaining (mAh):          3512
      Fully charged:          Yes
      Charging:          No
      Full charge capacity (mAh):          3512
      Health Information:
      Cycle count:          68
      Condition:          Normal
      Battery Installed:          Yes
      Amperage (mA):          147
      Voltage (mV):          12451
    If anyone could give me some insight, that would be great. An Apple tech guy told me when I called about a different issue that my numbers sounded normal (that was over a month ago when I was still in the 80% range) but now I am beginning to think that it's not normal at all.

    Welp! I am now getting this:
    Charge Information:
      Charge remaining (mAh):          3490
      Fully charged:          No
      Charging:          Yes
      Full charge capacity (mAh):          3490
      Health Information:
      Cycle count:          68
      Condition:          Check Battery
      Battery Installed:          Yes
      Amperage (mA):          25
      Voltage (mV):          12376
    So I am guessing my battery is finally going kablewy. Calling apple tomorrow about this and getting an appointment set up to take it in. It needs more repairs then just a simple battery check.

  • What are these pins for?

    These four pins are located under the cover for my X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Champion Series' front panel I/O unit. I was wondering what they're used for.

    According to this link it's from way back in the days when CD-ROMs had SPDIF connectors. From other stuff I've read CD-ROMs used differnt voltage (0-5v) from AV SPDIF (-0.5-+0.5v) so you can't just wire a coax connector to the two pins that make up input even if you knew what they were which you never will because Creative is keeping is a secret. They should stop advertising it in their specs matrix tho since they refuse to explain what its for.

  • Who are these discussions for?  Seems like a good place for Verizon to figure out who is mad.

    I need/want answers to how to STOP being treated (for the most part, there ARE exceptions).  If needed how to end my contract without going through the ringer and see what other "actions" others are doing.
    Thank you.

    AZSALUKI,
    But, they continue to tell me that i need to pay the fee, because I signed a "contract".  Over the past couple of years, they have replaced phone after phone, etc. and only said sorry.  In fact, I just got off the phone with them, and their offer was to ship me out another phone.  That is the problem.  So, THEY in fact have NOT fulfilled THEIR end of the contract.  Thus, I should be able to leave WITHOUT paying them.....  Correct?
    Onceagain, I am looking to "the group" as to how "we" are going to handle the problem.
    Oh, by the way, I did offer up another solution for them this morning.  Have a person from the store come to my location (all of 2 miles), and they said "no".  So, they are NOT working with me.
    So, please enlighten me.

  • What are these buttons for?

    What are does the green yellow and red buttons do on each Window?
    This is really confusing me....

    The red X should quit the application if it is the main window (and there are no other windows for that app open).
    That's not how Macs work. With a few exceptions, when you close the last window for a program, the program is not quit - it remains running.
    That's been the Mac 'way' for a long, long time, and was very useful when Multi-Finder first appeared in OS 5 (in the late 80's). With older, slow machines it made quite a difference in speed to keep the program running even when it was not in use. Today's machines are a lot faster, but there is still a noticeable difference between switching to an already-running app and opening a new document for it (or just double-clicking one of its documents) versus waiting for the program to reload before it can be used again.

  • What are these drivers for?

    On the MSI driver disc, when I go into the browse disc section their is a icon the says nvidia display drivers, what are those for if I already got my ATI drivers installed.
    Is this driver suppose to be installed?

    BobbyDRZA,
    The reason they send you the MSI CD is so you have a place to put your drink so you do not end up staining your desk. (They make excellent coasters.)

  • Stumped in a space invader tutorial: why are these code for?

    EDIT: Hi thanks to those who viewed my post and attempted to help. I found the answer, it's called double buffering.
    Anyway if you guys want to make additional infos or add something feel free to do so. Because I don't fully understand what's going on. (like what kind of graphic does getGraphics() return?)
    Thanks again!
    Hi, I'm following a tutorial about creating a space invaders game and it doesn't really explain much the objects and methods.
    Here's what I've done so far:
    import java.awt.Canvas;
    import java.awt.event.WindowAdapter;
    import java.awt.event.WindowEvent;
    import java.awt.Dimension;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.net.URL;
    import java.util.HashMap;
    import javax.imageio.ImageIO;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    public class Invaders extends Canvas{
         static final int WIDTH = 800;
         static final int HEIGHT = 600;
         static final int SPEED = 10;
         HashMap sprites;
         int posX, posY, vX;
         BufferedImage buffer;
         Invaders(){
              sprites = new HashMap();
              posX = WIDTH/2;
              posY = HEIGHT/2;
              vX = 2;
              buffer = new BufferedImage(WIDTH,HEIGHT,BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
              JFrame ventana = new JFrame("Space Invaders");
              JPanel panel = (JPanel)ventana.getContentPane();
              setBounds(0, 0, WIDTH, HEIGHT);
              panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(WIDTH,HEIGHT));
              panel.setLayout(null);
              panel.add(this);
              ventana.setBounds(0, 0, WIDTH, HEIGHT);
              ventana.setVisible(true);
              ventana.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter(){@Override
              public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {

                        Thread.sleep(SPEED);
                   } catch (InterruptedException e) {

         public static void main(String[] args) {
              // TODO Auto-generated method stub
              Invaders inv = new Invaders();
              inv.game();
    }I tried reading the Java API but I don't get what it's saying for these:
    buffer = new BufferedImage(WIDTH,HEIGHT,BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB); //what is the meaning of TYPE_INT_RGB?
    ventana.setIgnoreRepaint(true); //why ignore repaint?
    public void paintWorld() {
    Graphics g = buffer.getGraphics();
    g.setColor(getBackground());
    g.fillRect(0,0,getWidth(),getHeight());
    g.drawImage(getSprite("bicho.gif"), posX, posY,this);
    getGraphics().drawImage(buffer,0,0,this); //why add this line?
    }and lastly:
          public void game() {
            while (isVisible()) {
             updateWorld();
             paintWorld();
             paint(getGraphics()); //why call paint here?
             try {
                Thread.sleep(SPEED);
             } catch (InterruptedException e) {}
         }I understand the rest of the code, it's just the parts that I've mentoined that I can't really understand.
    I'd appreciate any help. Thanks! :)
