Are these temps ok? (Core i7) (MSI Pro-E)

Hello folks, before I started doing some light OC, I wanted to make sure that my system was stable at stock settings, without any after market cooling devices.
My h/w specification goes like this:
CPU - Core i7 920 D0 Stepping 2.67 GHz
Motherboard - MSI Pro-E
RAM- Corsair 6 Gb kit 1333 MHz
Video card- Nvidia 9500 GT 1 Gb
Hard drives- WD 500 Gb X 2
Operating system- Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit
PSU- Corsair VX450W
I ran Mprime (the linux port of Prime95) for an hour without any issues. The temperatures were as follows:
Idle: CPU: 25-26
        IOH: 64
Load: CPU: 84
          IOH: 77
I know that IOH temps are high at idle, but am getting an Antec Spot Cool fan to fix that. (thanks to the informative discussions on the forums)
However what I want to know is that at full load, isn't the CPU temp too high ? My system didn't crash, but since I am new to this subject, please let me know what you think. Also, since it has been mentioned in the forums in threads regarding the high IOH temps that a lot of after market coolers leave little room for cooling of the heatsink...which brand/model/type of an after market CPU cooler according to you folks should I go for ?
Also, is there a possibility of slightly OCing the system, say up to 3 GHz, with the stock cooler, or should I start saving for a good CPU cooler ?

84 at stock?  Something wrong there.  Shouldn't even be going over the 50s.  Make sure you installed the CPU cooler correctly.  If you reinstall it and the temperatures are the same, then the chipset heatsink is making little/obscured contact and needs to be reinstalled.  A fresh blob of TIM on the chipset wouldn't hurt either.  (Doing both the CPU and chipset coolers would not hurt one bit.)
I still don't know why MSI's IOH temperatures are still so high.  It's been months now and they still have this inconvenience/issue.
Thanks a lot for the information. I have re-checked and the CPU cooler is installed fine, is fixed tight. I will try your other suggestions as soon as I get the thermal compounds. Sidenote- Arctic Silver Ceramique should be fine, right ?

IOH is ok, but if you feel adventurous, new TIM & adding a nylon washer between the stock washer & spring should help. The Antec Spot Cool is a great temp reducer. All my rigs run a Zalman 9900. One reason I like it on an X58 rig, is because it gives a little passive air onto the IOH similar to the stock cooler. smile
Added: Once you get that high CPU at load figured out, you should be able to run the stock cooler up to around 3.5-3.6 with no problem.
Thanks HU16E, your posts on the other thread (on high IOH temps) have also been useful. I will look into buying the Zalman 9900, thanks for the info.
I hope I haven't done any damage to the CPU by running that stress test for an hour. (n00b query: why didn't my system shutdown at such high temperature ?)

None are perfect, for the simple reason that all laptops are handicapped.
The best looks to be the 3 GB 555M. None of these cards are on the supported list, so you must try to hack them. Hacking is not difficult but there are no guarantees it will work and we have not yet seen results from these cards.

I still have an Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 2.66 that was introduced August 7, 2006. I currently have 4 of the following Seagate internal hard drives installed: ST3750640AS SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.10 - HARD DRIVE - 750 GB - INTERNAL - 3.5" - SATA-300 - 7200 RPM - BUFFER: 16 MB
I want to know if these hard drives will work in this computer: Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive. This computer is powered by two 2.66 GHz dual core Intel Xeon 5150 processors.
The old drives were purchased from NewEgg and I want to purchase the new ones from there also. Are these 2TB drives compatible in my computer?
    Thanks,

    SATA is SATA.
Apple introduced GPT (GUID) years ago to support 2TB and larger (default partition scheme).
SATA III is also backward compatible with SATA II (otherwise, who would Seagate have to sell to?)
The only issues have been with green drives, using green version for RAID or for performance purposes.

You don't need to start a new thread to continue a conversation, you can just tack onto the original one. The settings I referred you to are for the Blackberry, since that's the device which is not receiving mail: anything which is working can be left alone.

All has been installed. Those are there in case you need to do a reinstall. Unlike most Windows based hardware vendors these days. Apple still ships software you might need in case a drive fails. Even in the case of the new MacBook Air, Apple ships the software on a flash drive.

  • What are these DR$TEMP % tables and can they be deleted?

We are generating PL/SQL using ODMr and then periodically running the model in batch mode. Out of 26,542 objects in the DMUSER1 schema, 25,574 are DR$TEMP% tables. Should the process be cleaning itself up or is this supposed to be a manual process? Is the cleanup documented somewhere?
    Thanks

    Hi Doug,
The only DR$ tables/indexes built are the ones generated by the Build,Apply and Test Activities. I confirmed that they are deleted in ODMr 10.2.0.3. As I noted earlier, there was a bug in ODMr 10.2.0.2 which would lead to leakage when deleting Activities. You will have DR$ table around for existing Activities, so do not delete these without validating they are no longer part of an existing Activity.
You can track down the DR$ objects associated to an Activity by viewing the text step in the activity and finding the table generated for the text data. This table will have a text index created on it. The name of that text index is used as a base name for several tables which Oracle text utilizes.
Again, all of these are deleted when you delete an Activity with ODMr 10.2.0.3.
    Thanks, Mark

All Mac Pro's ever made have shipped with gigabit ethernet.  The last non-gigabit tower desktop Apple made was the very first generation PowerMac G4's back in 1999.
Similarly, all Time Capsules have been gigabit ethernet as well - never been one that was not.

  • Scratches on the back of my MacBook Pro, are these from where they machined the aluminium or was this a worker at the factory being careless?

There are lots of uniform scratches that are evenly spaced on on the back of my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), are these from where they machined the aluminium or was this a worker at the factory being careless? They are pretty light scratches and sometimes not visible, has anyone got the same on their laptop?
    Thanks in advance!

There's no way to know the reason why they are there, but it looks like a human mistake.
You have 14 days to return your Mac if you bought it from Apple, so do it and get a new one. This is what you should do if you have any problem

  • What are these high temperatures?

    Hello,
I recently build a new pc. The problem is that some temperatures are t0o high. I am worried.
Temperatures after playing Unreal Tournament 3 for 25 minutes with a room temperature of 21 Celsius.
Temperatures after playing Unreal Tournament 3 for 20 minutes with a room temparture of 27 Celsius.
There are 2 temperatures sensors which are bothering me. In Hwmonitor they are called TMPIN0 and TMPIN2. The bios system temperature is equal as TMPIN2. After some research i think it is the northbridge.
But what is TMPIN0? AIDA64 says it is the CPU. But that doesn't seem right because the temperature of TMPIN0 is higher than the CPU-cores and CPU-package.
The bios says the CPU temperature is equal as the CPU-cores and CPU-package which are  displayed in HWmonitor and AIDA64.
When i going to stress my CPU, then the TMPIN0 temperature  is not rising.
But when i stress my GPU, then the TMPIN0 temperature is rising. The TMPIN2(nortbridge?)  is also rising since the northbridge is located close to the graphics-card.
Is 70 Degrees Celsius for the northbridge too high?
I found the “Maximium Case Temperature” for the Intel H61 Chipset: 111 Celsius.
But what is the “Maximium Case Temperature”? Has it to do something with Tcase?
I also found the Tcase and Tjmax for the Z68 chipset. The TCase for the set is 104°C and the Tjmax is 108°C.
As much as i can find, The H61 and Z68 are both 65 nm and have a max TDP of 6.1W. They are the same series. Is this also the case with the Tcase and Tjmax?
But what is TMPIN0 for a sensor?
My bios is showing only 2 temperatures: The cpu and the System Temperature. (Nortbridge Intel H61)
Should i be worried about the temperatures?
    My system:
    Intel pentium G860 Boxed
    MSI-H61MA-E35 (B3) Intel H61 chipset
    8GB ram, 2 dimms
    Seageate Barracuda 7200 1TB
    Fractial Design Core 1000
    Antel vp350P
    AMD Radeon HD4850
(Sorry for bad english. It isn´t my first language.)
(And for some reason i cannot post links... Get error: Sorry, you are not allowed to post external links.)

    Ok, i flashed the bios.
I saw that the system temperature(TMPIN2) was now 30C instead of 60. (chipset temps)
But TMPIN0 was just the same.
So i thought to run a few bad-scenario tests. i tested with a closed case without casefans with a room temperature of 19C.
I only tested with furmark because only when i use my graphiccard, TMPIN0 and TMPIN2 would raise to high temps.
Furmark only uses one CPU core.
    This were the results:
As you can see TMPIN0/T1 reaches 120C, and my CPU downclocks again.
I located the sensor for TMPIN0, i think. I removed the sidepanel and placed a system fan directly under the videocard on the fintek chip. left tot the board.
The temperature dropped from 70C to 60C under furmark load. Other places and the results were less.
I also contacted MSI support. And they say that usually there is a temp sensor located close to the wintek chip. He also refered to the new betabios and said that the temps stayed that high, i should rma my board. And he closed my question thread.
quite stupid to place a sensor close to a pcie 16x slot, where people usually put hot gpu's. And the strange thing is that the temp of TMPIN0/T1 goes a lot higher than the graphic-card.
I touched almost the whole motherboard, but nothing is hot. and the hot air can't be hotter than 82.5C(GPU temp) So why does TMPIN0/T1 raise that much?
I am going to order new casefans. Hoping they make a diference.
When i have the casefans and it is summer (30C). I think the casefans doesn't do much help then. I had more pc''s, they could easily get into a case without casefans especially at a room temperature of 19C at full load with hot graphic-card.
Why whould a CPU downclocks when a sensor under the PCIE slot get too hot? Why o WHY?!?!? it has nothing to do with the CPU itself! Even with IntelBurnTest the cpu stays below 60C and won't downclock.
It has to be a false reading, nothing gets too hot. Very annoying. I think the sensor is broken or something, when it reach a certain temperature it just keeps raising. it even kept raising  like 10 seconds after i quit furmark, and stayed for 20 seconds on 116/120C. it was 110 when i quit furmark. And if it is so important for msi to drop the cpu speed if TMPIN0/T1 Goes over 100C then lists this sensor to the bios temps and in msi controlcenter because they show not this temperature as of right now.
And i am not alone in this, atleast 2 more people have exact the same problem as me.

What temps are you seeing in control center?
    and this:
They reporting the same temps as in HWmonitor and hwinfo. Actually Control Center only reports 2 temps: CPU temp and system temp.

Apparently this is a known issue and a beta me7 bios has been released.

    1.Fix System Temp issue
Also, I got a response about the cpu compatibiltiy. All new boards shipments of that mobo are shipped with 2.1 and will apparently work with the sb cpu. (Like the z77 apparently, this chipset, the sb cpu and me 8 can co-exist w/o problem) That being said, flash to the .139 which is me7 then if the problem doesn't go away, hold your breath and try 2.1. We can give you a file to flash back to me7 if you need to do so.
About 2.1, i can't find nothing in the changelog about a fix for system-temperature. And i read that people couldn't boot anymore after they updated to ME8, they need an Ivy Bridge to boot. Well if that happens i can't flash back to ME7 since i don't have a Ivy Bridge. And the new beta bios has more fixes than 2.1
And xmad, after all these temp issues i feel like your avatar.

Both, but primarily the GPU will generate the most heat, either way, heat is a killer no matter how you look at it. Even if it is warm to the touch, that does not mean it's harmless. If it's warmer than the component manufacturer specs indicate, it shortens the life. As to the rate in which heat above a certain range actually shortens the life is better left to an electronics engineer or a spec sheet.
Do not overclock in 2d mode it's not necessary.
Probably not an issue if you have good cooling in your case and the ambient room temp is respectable.
If you want to overclock, let the 3d detect set it initially and then take the overall speed and reduce it by 5% or so. You may not notice failure right away if your eye is not trained to see the problems. So it's best to be conservative if you are not an experienced overclocker.
