Are these unnecessary files/folders?  (When saving a premiere project)

Using Premiere Pro CS3 on Windows 7.
When saving a project, I'm always left with the actual file ( a .prproj file) and then some folders which also contain files.  The folders created are called "Media Cache Files" "Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files" "Adobe Premiere Pro Auto-Save" and "Encoded Files".  Now I know the original .prproj file is NEEDED, but what about the excess stuff?  I need to free up some space on my comp but don't want to ruin the project in case I need to edit it in the future.  Thank you!

Well, I have multiple projects and it's unlikely I will have to recreate all of them, and very unlikely I'll have to recreate all of them at the SAME time.  So can I (temporarily at least, since they'll be recreated) delete those folders?  Will there be any down side besides having to wait for them to load again once I reload the project?  Does this go for all 4 folders I mentioned or just some...?

  • Ghosted "Include Linked Files" box when saving artwork?

Why will Illustrator CS5 not allow me to check the "Include Linked Files" box when saving my artwork as AI or EPS?

When you placed the files into you AI file did you use the Place command from the File menu and have the Link box checked or did you use copy/paste? If you used the latter then the files are embedded. The Include Linked Files will also embed the files and make them non-linked. I don't know if that is what you are after. This is real non-intuitive.

  • Where are the iWeb file(s?) saved?

    Hi,
When I'm working on a site and then press cmd+S (File>Save), where are the iWeb file(s?) saved?
I'm looking for those files which I need to backup in case my harddisk would crash some day...
    Thanks!

They're in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/, where ~ is the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.

  • Indesign CS4 "forgets" file name when saving as Postcript file.

Like the title says Indesign CS4 "forgets" file name when saving as Postcript file.
    Example:
I open up indesign CS4 and open up a file called "test5". Then I go to the print menu and save it as a postscript file. Once the save as dialog box comes up it wont say "test5" but it uses whatever file name I used last time I created a PDF.
I want indesign to recognize that when I create a postscript file that I want it to be named the same way as my file that is open at that moment. Changing the file name every time is not bad when they are called "test5" etc but here at this company we use super long file names and it's a pain to change it every time.
Funny thing: Some machines here do it the way in the example but other machines will do it the correct way by using the same name in the save as box.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? If something is not clear just ask!

How about this - it's a workaround, I can't change ID or your system.
I'm big on EXACT filenames also, case and space sensative. Do a "Save As" before printing - the file name should be correct and highlighted, ctrl+c copy, escape/cancel the Save As. Paste in the filename during the Save as Postscript File.

  • Look at your iphoto 'page'. On the left is a margin running vertically down the page and within that margin are shown your files/folders - e.g 'events', I can't get that margin contents back

    Look at your iphoto 'page'.
On the left is a margin running vertically down the page and within that margin are shown your files/folders - e.g 'events', 'last 12 months', 'anniversary' etc etc.
Now visualize the 'page' but WITHOUT the margin and the entries in it. It just disappeared while I was editing photos.
I've tried all the 'File', 'Edit', 'View', 'Share' 'Window' & 'Help' options, but no success.
There is no apparent way of calling up onto the screen any photos, folders etc. because I can't get the margin and its contents back onto the iphoto page.
I've tried restoring the page from my backup, where it is all perfect, but that didn't work.
    Help please!

Move your cursor to the extreme left hand side of the iPhoto Window until it turns into a '+' and then click and drag right.

  • How do you turn off the "Update Template Files" dialog when saving a template in Dreamweaver?

As the title states I'd like to not have to see the "Update Template Files" dialog when saving a template.  I'm not sure what its purpose is other than to annoy as it does not seem to do anything  -- selecting update, don't update, any combination of files and or hitting escape appears not to make any difference wrt wheter it updates the pages or not (it does every time).
    Any help will be appreciated.

The "more like this" window gave me the answers.  No current ability to turn off.  I've submitted a request to add this feature.

  • Changing file type when saving doesn't work

How can I fix the problem where, if I change file type when saving, eg from tiff to jpg, the 'jpg' suffix is not appended in the save window? It remains as tiff. This has only started happening recently.

I have a G5 iSight running OSX 10.4.11 with all the latest upgrades. The problem is about a week old.
Yesterday I did a clean install of everything (not because of this problem) which I'm sure would have cleared the problem. But I was playing around with importing all my old PS and InDesign settings via copying the old preference files (and others), and the tiff/jpeg problem has reappeared. Seems to me like one of the files I copied, contains the problem. I suspect the only way out of this is to reload PS. But I was hoping it might be as simple as deleting a certain preference file.

  • Played with files/folders when trying to add 2nd library all messed up now.

I know there are many threads on this subject. First when I got my new laptop I transfered my library. It worked but the folder listings looked different/odd to me. Now husband decided he wanted a nano and I tried to add 2nd library to my laptop. I think I followed the directions but apparently did not. I also tried to move and drag some files/folders together because I have so many folders. There are multiple itunes, itunes music, ipod ?files/folders. I have the same problem as others ! shows up when I tried to play any songs. Find in other location. I found them but then what do I do? I barely know computer basics so any help needs to be very, very basic. How should I proceed? How should my folders look? Music-> iTunes->iPod-> Album Artwork->iTunes-> iTunes music etc. If I can't get itunes to work should I delete all music from computer and remove itunes and start over? Frankly I do not know why they don't have a video to follow to help computer stupid people like me. By the number of posts you would think hey make videos to cover these problems. My iPod 80GB is fine with everything present. I have been good about keeping back ups on disks. My music library contains only 140 music purchases and has a total of 900 songs, album artwork, and 25 photos. Any help would be great there is a lot of stress in the house about this subject. Thank you all for your time.

Mind if I wait around and see if you get an answer, cibt?
I can't fathom the iTs way of doing things - but not quite doing things. Are files Windows files of are they iTs? What job does the .itl file have? Is iTs just a series of pointers to (real) Windows files?
Can files be moved around Windows folders and be recognised by iTs, or is iTs a file manager too?
It's a dog's breakfast to me. Too clever by half. An entire system within another entire system. I'll be waiting..

  • Why are unwanted vi files produced when building executable?

I'm using LabVIEW 9, and when I build an executable, it creates 3 unwanted folders containing a number of .vi files that I don't want to have.  The 3 unwanted folders that are automatically created are:
    NI_HTML, NI_report, and NI_Standard Report
Why are these folders with numerous .vi files created automatically, and where is the option to exclude these when building the .exe?  Ok thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I assume this is a executable build description is created in LabVIEW 8.6 (or earlier), look in your LabVIEW 2009 build settings, there should be an option 'Use LabVIEW 8.x build layout'  (or something similar), this is probably checked, please uncheck.

  • An issue whereby Photoshop .PSD files disappear when saved to a network file share

It has been reported and reproduced by Support, an issue whereby Photoshop .PSD files disappear when they’re saved to a network file share.
Upon initial investigations Support have observed the following behaviour when saving a Photoshop file.
The document is initially saved as a new file on the file share.
The original  .PSD file is deleted on the file share.
The newly created file is renamed to the same name as the original file.
An issue often arises when steps 1 and 2 complete however step 3 fails. When a file is reported by users as having disappeared, the new file created in step 1 can be renamed from  .00_ to the original *.PSD file name on the server as the *.00_ files are normally hidden by the desktop operating system. This allows people to see and open the file from both PC’s and MAC’s using AFP and SMB protocols.
A related issue often reported by users is that they receive an error message “Could not save as” when trying to save a .PSD file. Troubleshooting the issue confirms that the user is able to save the file if they perform a “Save As” operation in Photoshop.
From the reported problems and observations there is clearly an issue with how Photoshop performs a file save operation further exacerbated by the fact the process doesn’t fail safely.

Sounds like you're hitting one of the known MacOS filesystem bugs - worst when working with SMB volumes.
Apple knows about this, and we are pursuing workarounds to the OS bugs.
Yeah, if you value your files, don't save directly to servers, especially on MacOS.

  • What are these old files?

I am going through old folders and found several of the following:
Cache folder containing Timeline Movie Data.plist, Timeline Movie.mov
    Media folder containing Clip 01.dv,
What are these files and can they ever be used to recreate some old project? Should I just delete?
    Thanks.

Cache folder containing Timeline Movie Data.plist, Timeline Movie.mov
    Media folder containing Clip 01.dv,
These look as though they are or were associated with iMovie HD 6.
The Media folder containing Clip01.dv will be original source material, which you say you do not want to delete.
This media will most likely have been imported from a DV tape camcorder ( or an analogue to digital converter).
Do you still have the old version of iMovie  ? (iMovie HD 6, if I am correct).
If you no longer have the version of iMovie that generated your above files, but have a later version that you wish to use this .dv media in, then you may well be able to import it into the later version.
I would be curious to see if you can also import the "Timeline Movie .mov" into a later version of iMovie.
If the Timeline Movie.mov had still been within the iMovie HD 6 project then you can carry out this import into say iMovie versions 8 and 9 (iMovie 09 and 11) and most probably iMovie ver. 10 (iMovie 13).Try it anyway.

  • What are these MSP files?

When I go to the FTP site for the Reader 10.0.1 update, I see these files
    AdbeRdrUpd1001_Tier1.msp
    AdbeRdrUpd1001_Tier2.msp
    AdbeRdrUpd1001_Tier3.msp
    AdbeRdrUpd1001_Tier4.msp
What are these files?  Previously there was always just one multilingual update available.

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/888/cpsid_88814.html#main_Tiers has some details which might be of help. To summarize, the 10.0.1 patches have been released targeting specific language tiers.

  • Files corrupt when saved as Jpeg.

Recently I have been creating invitations in illustrator but when I save them as a JPEG file it says file corrupted when I try to upload them for printing. How can I fix this without creating an entirely new invitation?

Why are you saving as jpeg for print out of Illustrator? Work in CMYK and save as pdf.
Working in CMYK means that, provided your monitor is calibrated correctly, what you see is what you get.
You may be in for an unpleasant surprise if you work in those nice, bright RGB colours and they come out all dull and muddy when printed.
Pdf means that vector art remains as vector art. It is bad Latin to pixellate things when you don’t need to.

  • Saving attachments on Snow leopard mail loses file extension when saving over an existing document

Saving attachments on Snow leopard mail loses the file extension when clicking on an existing file to copy the name. Is there something I can switch on in the preferences to fix this?

I work for a publishing company where our clients send their copy to us in Word documents. We might have several versions sent to us before the final version comes in.
It is instances like this where we want to overwrite a document on the server with the most up-to-date version (which is usually named differently to the original file). We really don't want to clutter the folder with lots of different revisions. The quick way to do this is to click on the document we are replacing (this copies the document name). Previous versions of OSX Mail used to keep the file extension but Snow Leopard seems to remove it.
It's annoying as there is no particular logic to this. We just have to manually type ".doc" at the end of the document.
Incidentally, this happens with any attachment file type.

  • Ultrabeat loses track of samples when saved within a Project???

Why is it that when I save a project with all my custom samples loaded into the Ultrabeat, I have to manually re-find them once it comes time for me to open the saved project?
    Example:
    - I'm working on a project, many instances of the Ultrabeat, many wav samples loaded into a blank 'sample player' patch.
    - I save the project, making sure that all samples are to be saved in their respective folders along with the project.
    - I go and open the project folders, double checking that the samples are indeed saved. Yep - they are.
    - I Send the project file and folder out to my laptop to work on it on the go.
    - I Recheck the files.
    - I load up the project file, all normal samples load, yet the Ultrabeat comes up with a search window and tells me to find EACH. INDIVIDUAL. HIT. Which are located DIRECTLY in the folder that Logic itself saved them in. No tampering. No modifications.
    - Then I spend the next hour manually finding the samples out of the SAME folder...
You'd think that if I saved a project, along with all files associated with it, and Logic put them in a specific destination folder, that it MIGHT know where to go and find them once it comes time to reopen the project.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Any ideas?
    If not, WAKE UP APPLE.

That's exactly what I do already, so there is no reason why it should be having a hard time finding the files.
And, as I mentioned earlier, I double check to make sure that the files were actually copied before I transfer the project and included project folders. Also, when it comes time for Ultrabeat to lose track of the samples, each and every one of them are in the exact same Ultrabeat Samples folder that was created by Logic itself.
Again, There is no reason why Logic shouldn't just be able to find the files that it itself put into a specific folder within the project file.
