You will need a fix for IE6 and below, but apart from that
give it a go,
its much better than gifs.

  • Dvd subtitles are transparent

When I play a dvd on my laptop, the subtitles are transparent. I can barely see them.
I downloaded another program to play dvd's and had the same problem with the subtitles. So I'm assuming this is a setting.
I put the dvd in my G5 and was able to see nice white titles. Both computer (G4 & G5) have the same OS, and the same version of "dvd player". The only difference is I have QT version 7 on the computer with the problem, and version 6 on the computer that shows the subtitles.
Does anyone know if this is a setting in Quicktime?
    Any advise would be appreciated.

  • How can I convert an .eps created in AI to a transparent .png

The logo I created in AI is beautiful.  I would like an equally beautiful transparent .png for use on my website.  Is this possible?

    Reddafodil,
    Remember to tick Transparency.
I would like an equally beautiful transparent .png
Then you should use (at least) PNG24, and certainly not GIF which only has a very limited number of colours; PNG24 has many more than PNG8.

  • Using a transparent png as watermark?

I have a scanned pdf file that needs a transparent png placed over the majority of the content. Is there any way to do this since acrobat doesn't support pngs? Is there any software that would allow this?

    Adam,
Have seen this happen often. Here are some things you can do to try to improve the watermark results.
    1. Instead of using the "scale" option in the filter, make a copy of the watermark source image at exactly the size you want it to be on the final video image, and then import it into the filter pre-sized. The "scale" option may produce undesirable results in certain circumstances, even when you are scaling the watermark DOWN as you are in your example.
    2. Same for opacity. Bake the opacity into the watermark before you import it into the filter.
    3. For a traditional mono-style translucent "glass bug" look, if the creative requirements allow, make the primary watermark color white, and place a 1 or 2 pixel solid black stroke around it. Set the opacity of the white layer very low, perhaps 25%, and set the opacity of the black stroke higher, say 35%. Save a PNG copy, and then import into the watermark filter. Obviously, change this as you see fit or as required by the project. (Also, opacity ramps on the white area can give you really cool results.) Your opacity numbers will vary of course, depending on what you're doing, but that's a starting point to play with.
    4. Use simple artwork and block fonts for the watermark. Specifically, font serifs fall apart under heavy compression a lot quicker than a block font or blocky artwork.
At the very least, the source of your problem is likely the in-filter scaling. If you can avoid that, you'll probably be much happier with the results. Of course, this is just from our experience, and your mileage may vary. There's a lot of ways to skin the watermark cat.

  • Strange lines appear around transparent PNG's when document PDF'ed

    Hi
I have inserted some transparent PNG images into my Pages document, and they look fine on my screen, and they also look fine when I export to PDF and view in Preview.
However, if I view the PDF in Acrobat (or send it to a Non-Mac user and they view it in Acrobat), there are thin lines around many of the PNG images, which make them look ugly and sloppy, and very un-Mac-Like! Any ideas why these lines are appearing and how to prevent them?

    Hi logree
    Welcome to the forum.
My guess is that it is showing just the edge of the masked background used to hide the alpha channel background of the .png.
This happens I think, because the postscript mask may be centred on the outside rows of pixels in Acrobat, with half the pixels still being revealed.
You can try masking in Pages' instead:
    +Menu > Format > Instant Alpha+
or try a Photoshop file with transparent background, to see if that eliminates the problem.

  • Export to PDF causes fringing around transparent PNGs only in Acrobat

If I export to PDF from Keynote '09 using the "Best" setting, I'm getting black fringing around solid elements in a transparent PNG that was placed in the original keynote doc. This fringing does not occur when the PDF is viewed in Preview. Any suggestions on how to remove the fringing?
    Example is here: http://i.imgur.com/3QXGf.jpg
Thanks in advance for the help.

Perhaps my explanation of why this is a problem wasn't clear. The type of PDF links that Pages creates are, quite reasonably, set to highlight when clicked (there are a variety of options in PDF for the visual action of a clicked link; highlight is best for user feedback. In an ideal world, when the user clicks a link in a PDF, you want the a highlight box to appear over the text of the link - exactly over it, not too large, not too small.
Because Pages creates two links for each internal hyperlink, but the user will click only one of them in the PDF (whether in Preview or Acrobat), the highlight is almost guaranteed to be wrong for every click. If the user clicks the top link, only the top two-thirds of the text will highlight, and if the user clicks the bottom link, there will be a weird highlight either on the bottom third of the text or underneath it. It's inconsistent, but in most cases, it's wrong.
Obviously, this is only cosmetic, but it's the kind of mistake that hurts usability and detracts from the user experience, and as far as I can tell, there's absolutely no reason for it, making it a bug.
    cheers... -Adam

  • Bug when saving transparent png

I just saved a few pngs with transparent backgrounds and somehow the icons for those new images are being merged or overlaid with previously saved jpgs in my photo stream. When I open them, I see the picture I expect so there's no damage occurring, just funky icons. When I viewed the same images from the photo stream on my iPhone 4 and AppleTV2, the same behavior occurred with those transparent png files as well.

    Hi Ignacio,
Well I sort of owe you guys an apology as it appears to be an iPad/iOS issue actually. Apparently I've never tried sending a transparent png to either my iPhone or iPad until learning/using Photoshop Touch (which I'm really enjoying btw).
But to answer your questions anyway, I was opening them on my iPad/iPhone in the Photos app and on my AppleTV in the Photostream there.
I made a quick transparent png from my Photoshop CS3 as well as downloading one from a Google search, all which had the same overlapping results.
I grabbed a screen shot for you, and blurred out the icons of images I think you'd rather not see  ;-). Weird thing though too, which also points to this being an Apple issue, is that by accident, my first image, I saved as a png but with the background layer unlocked (being layer zero) and when I dragged it into this email, it overlaid the picture over the body of the email so that the black areas where transparent. So I dragged it out, resaved as a jpg but now I can't repeat the problem with the png, as I was going to create a screen shot of that for you as well. Either way, the icons on my desktop behave as normal and the images all open as normal. They all just get goofed up when displaying them in iOS as icons before actually opening the pictures.
So in this capture, there are six images with overlapping icons where the intended transparent png is on top of some random image pulled from the photostream.
    Thanks again,
    Eric

  • How do I paste transparent png's

If I copy a transparent PNG image from any web browser on a mac, I can paste said image into illustrator without it losing its transparency, while trying the same on my PC results in the transparent areas of the image turning black... How does one avoid this?
    (running illustrator CC 2014)

Are forum users usually this bitter? I really don't understand how using this workflow would be stupid, as you so eloquently put it. You don't know what I'm working on nor how, and it does surprise me that you don't see how it could be time saving... But I don't really mean to discuss process quality or speeds.
Anyone else? If I can do it on a mac, I should be able to do it on a pc as well!

  • Transparency not working on smartshape button filled with transparent (PNG) image.

I'm using Captivate 8 and have had no problems so far importing PNG images with transparent backgrounds.....that is until I try and make a smartshape button and import a transparent PNG image as the background.
It displays fine on screen, but whenever I preview it or publish, the white background of the image/button displays. Is this a known Captivate 8 limitation?
Sorry if this is a repeated question....I've tried trawling through the forums and all I can see is to try different file formats for the images, such as GIF or BMP, which I've tried and nothing works.
    Any advice or suggestions?

If it is a button, what is inserted for Rollover and Down state? I just recreated a shape button, with three different images for the states. All are in one PS-file as layers which I imported into Captivate. I kept Stretched checked in this case, because I know there is sometimes a slight change in size between states. Here are screenshots of Up, Rollover and Down state. The stroke was set to 0 for the shape, but to prevent all color contamination I also set stroke to the color of the background (light grey). In the first (Up) image you can clearly see where the stroke is due to truncation of the Question mark.
Seems only possibility is in the creation of the PNG's? What was your work flow?

  • Creating transparent PNG

Is it possible to produce a panel image with a transparent background? Reading the image, replacing the background color with transparent in the color table then writing back out does not work.

    > Is it possible to produce a panel image with a transparent background?
    > Reading the image, replacing the background color with transparent in
    > the color table then writing back out does not work.
The transparent color is really just a LV concept. It is a symbolic
color that makes sense to many panel areas, but in a color table, it
looks just like black, or dark dark blue.
If you want to place a png on the panel, use the clipboard or
Edit>Import Image. If you want the png to have transparency, most paint
packages that produce pngs will have the notion of a mask or an alpha
channel. Make the mask or alpha channel to specify which portions of
the image are opaque, which are transparent, and which are translucent,
and associate it with the image
    and save as a png.
If you are trying to save out a png with a mask, there are a number of
additional image icons in LV7, including one that applies a color
masking operation. You might want to try to use the mask icon and wire
the output to the png writer.

You don't have a valid DOCTYPE, see this:
    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.triforcetechs.com%2F
it explains quite well what you need.
Also, no <html> but you have </html>
I suggest fixing this and posting back as there are a number
    of
    possibilities causing problems.

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • How do I add a second layer mask to turn more areas transparent?

I can't get this to work, and I haven't been able to find a post specifically for this question.  I applied a layer mask to a photograph to take out part of the background, that is, make it transparent.  I would like to add several more masks to make more areas transparent.  But when I add a second mask, it hides the first one, and the first one hides it. If I turn off either level, and I can see the transparent portion for the other level, but when both layers are visible, all of the transparent sections are covered.
It seems to be there ought to be a simple way to do this.  Perhaps it is possible to combine all the selected transparency layers into one mask?
Thanks for any help you can give.
    Best -- Cat

Thanks, Scott!  I'm not exactly sure how to use groups, but this is a good reason to figure it out.
I also figured out a kludgy way to do it.  I make transparent the part of one layer that is blocking the transparency of the others.  As long as I don't have a lot of layers do to that way, it works okay.  It's a pain, though.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Can we select a particular area in the browser using Flex?

    Hi All,
Is it possible to select particular area of the flex
application in the browser using Flex and generate that area into a
image when an button is clicked?
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance

Yes, you should google Flex screenshot bitmap, there are a
number of examples. As far as 'selecting' one of the examples may
show this, but you can just use a Canvas or similar for the box
drawing (set background transparent, and just use the borders, and
resize the canvas on mouse events). Otherwise you can do the
Graphics sorite drawing by hand or use something like Degrafa for
fancier, or look up quasimodo marching ants for an animated
