Are USB audio interface issues on iMac Haswell resolved?

HI,
i just ordered a 27 inch iMac, maxed out with a 1TB SSD.
I noticed the imac doesn't have an audio in jack and figured i'd shop for a good USB Audio Interface.
But then i came across all these USB audio interface issues on the new iMac.
This is incredible to me because iMacs are often used by creative people and lots of musicians.
For me audio is VERY important. I record music and i record sound for animation and video.
Apple thus far seemed to be avoiding the topics and issues at hand.
Are the USB audio issues resolved? What was resolved? What was the problem (Maverick? Fusion Drive)?
Is it wise to choose for a Thunderbolt Interface? Which one?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Especcialy since it seems such a wide spread problem.
Thanx

doubt it would be a general issue
usb is a universal serial bus it always require a driver for anything
and the driver of one external audio device would act different then the driver from another external audio device
so it would be very unlikely that an external audio card using a cirrus logic audio chip would cause the same issues with the imac as one with a realtek or soundblaster audio chip
not that there could not be issues with all of them but not likely that they would suffer from the same issue

  • USB Audio Interface Issue

In my home setup, I'm using a USB-powered Focusrite 2i2 audio interface with my 2010 Macbook Air (it connects to a pair of powered Rokit studio monitors). If I have the 2i2 selected as my Output Device, things are generally fine, but as soon as my machine stops sending an audio signal - say, when an album stops playing - I lose sound altogether, from all my apps. If I try to play another track in iTunes, the button will change from Play to Pause, but the music won't start playing  and the timer just stays on 0:00. I've found that quitting and restarting both iTunes and Chrome generally brings it back - a full reboot is rarely necessary - but I'm hoping there's a way I can maintain the connection. (My best guess is that the interface enters some kind of "sleep" state, but that's onlyh a guess.)
    Any ideas?

  • L305SD-S5874 Audio recording issues to USB Audio Interface

I am hearing snaps and pops recording audio through a USB audio interface attached to my laptop.I am using an external Hard Disk connected to a card buss e sata interface. Audio plays fine but snaps and pops are heard when
recording or even when an input channel is selected but idle.I have the latest drivers installed.People in other forums are saying that these problems  are due to my using a " cheap" laptop with poor IRQ sharing implementation in the chipset. Is anyone using a similar computer this way with no problems ? I have recorded audio for years to much less powered computers with good results.

Sounds like you're listening to the same source (the X6) being played twice.
Could be you are hearing  MIDI thru playback as well as Logic's "Software Monitoring" you must also be enabling a MIDI track for recording. If you unhook the MIDI connection from the X6 does the hollow sound go away.
What Audio interface are you using? The other possibility is your Audio Interface has "Direct Monitoring" this allows you to monitor the audio inputs before it goes into the computer. Having Logic's Software Monitoring enable along with Direct Monitoring would also produce the hollow sound.
I suggest the thorough reading of the manual so you understand what all the preferences do. Most of the time it is better to read and understand/experiment on your own. It's one thing to be shown something another to figure it out for yourself.
Here's a Link to all of the Preferences/Audio settings.

  • Will Garageband on an IMAC with OS 10.7 work with a  Tascam us-600 USB audio interface

I need a USB audio interface to read in DAT tapes from a Tascam DA20 recorder. I want to use the S/PDIF digital output from the recorder.  Has anyone used the Tascam US-600 with the IMAC and Garageband?  Any other recommendations for a USB interface that will accommodate S/PDIF as well as XLR Mic inputs for under $200?

    Been there, done that.
I can select the device (US-144), but I do not get any choice for the output channel. The default is to go the analog channel ( channels 1 and 2).
However - I did find a workaround. There is an opensource package called Soundflower:
    http://code.google.com/p/soundflower/
    From the description:
"Soundflower is a MacOS system extension that allows applications to pass audio to other applications. Soundflower is easy to use, it simply presents itself as an audio device, allowing any audio application to send and receive audio with no other support needed."
This allows me to set the output channel for garage band (and any other app, e.g. itunes) to the digital S/PDIF output.
It would be nice if this functionality was built in to Mac OS X...

  • ? on Using which format of Audio Interface with a Imac i3

    Hi,
I have been reading and reading about this topic. My (R.I.P.) eMac has been replaced by a very nice and fast Intel i3 Imac with FW800 and plenty of USB 2.0 and SP/Dif (even)
Fortunately most all of any music gear that needed driver or firmware updates for Snow Leopard had them available, but my Tascam US-120 (USB 1.1) does not so have been looking at USB 2.0 (though its amazing how many USB 1.1 USB Audio Interfaces are still be produced and at $$$ prices. Firewire Audio Interfaces are at FW 400 and with a Firewire 800 port on the back of the iMac appears ? that a interface cable is the required or ? only way to use a Firewire interface 1) I want to make sure I am understanding this correctly, and 2) is this safe ? to do 3) I am getting a FW 800 Extrenal Hard Drive so that is a match, 7200RPM,
I do plug in to the Interface (or did) at times 2 microphones XLR type (to put mic's on a amplifier) , a Electric Guitar , or a Acoutsic Electric Guitar in to the interface or record it with a mic's, I have a MIDI Keyoard that has MIDI in-out as well as USB in, and also plugged two power monotors(Linear Flat Speakers) in to the out puts of the previous Audio Interface.
Last Question I reviewed the bit/kHz of the USB 1.1 interfaces and they range from 16 bit//48 kHz,24bit 44.1kHz, to 24bit 48kHz to 24bit 96kHz (on a USB 1.1 connection from the particular USB audio Interfaces when you find a USB 2.0 modem the max bit rate is 24 and the kHz (ranges from 96 kHz to 192 kHz) I am not a electronics genius
but have recorded music in to computers for over 6+ years and the Resolution rates of the USB 1.1 do not make sense to me (I realize that MP3 (being compressed) and CD quality recordings are only so high but..
I am going to (later) update to Ilife 11 with Garageband 11' which can record up to the 24 bit range so that is a consideration as well
The FW 400 resolution rates in the chart I have are a minimum of 24 bit and kHZ range of 96 kHz to 192 kHz . and in theory USB 2.0 is a bit faster at 480 mbs versus FW 400
at 400 mbs and from what I have learned USB 1.1 is slowest, I guess I am missing something, over thinking this or. Just want to do it safely, and get all of the inputs and out puts I need (I can even use the SP/Dif that comes on alot of Audio Interfaces, The AES Audio Engineers Society just wrapped up a convention and have been looking at their site and new product releases.
Any Input would be greatly appreciated and I wish I could write less and explain more!

If you can stretch your budget (quite a bit actually, but you can find deals on the net) I can't recommend the RME Fireface 800 models enough. Lots of I/O, never EVER had a crash, and the drivers and tools are rock solid. RME also makes a FF400 which has less I/O, but also costs less. The sound is steller, and it has no discernable noise. These are Firewire interfaces, but they just camme out with one that also talks USB.

  • Audio error with garageband and external usb audio interface

I am using Garageband 2.0.3. under ios 8.0.2 on my iPad 3 and via camera adapter a USB audio interface Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 or a Presonus iTwo.
When I start Garageband, it works well, the audio interfaces are recognized and I can record a track.
As soon as I switch from instrumtent to track view, the audio path is completely disturbed and all I can hear is some noise from the speaker.
Then I have to unplug the usb cable and plug it in again. Then audio works until I switch back to the instrument menu.
When I use the headphone output only there is no problem with Garageband and everything works fine.
Other applications audio applications don't show any error with each of the two audio interfaces.
Any feedback is very much appreciated, thanks.
    Harald

I have this exact issue.  However, I tried the Loopy app after after GB crashed and received an error message saying that core audio is not available.  Rebooting resolves but the problem repeats.  Any suggestions as to fixes?  Btw; I have no such problem with Ipad 2 and ios 7.

  • USB Audio Interface Mystery

I have an HP Envy TouchSmart m7.  Purchased it with Win 8 and upgraded to Win 8.1 update 1 (with August 2014 update).
No issues with the exception of a USB device.  I normally have not used any USB devices - no USB keyboard, no USB printer, etc.. I have used a USB mouse once in a blue moon - but I do use a USB audio interface for my MIDI keyboard regularly.
It works fine until I connect a cable from any of the outputs to a mixer or amp.  Within minutes, I hear a click and my audio driver stops responding as if the device rebooted - I'm assuming because of a USB power or data drop-out.  I've replaced my audio interface, tried different power sources, different locations, all types of surge strips, modified power settings, replaced mixers, upgraded my BIOS, checked Windows updates, been talking with the maker of my audio interface (who even sent me custom drivers) and talking with the makers of my music software - all of them are at wits end saying to simply use another computer.
Help - help and help!  I cannot perform with my audio interface not working.  I have to connect it in order to hear sound.  Everything seems to point to hardware on my laptop.  Any ideas or fixes for this laptop?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello,
AS I stated earlier - the maker of the problematic device (which has a solid reputation) has sent me new drivers that aren't widely available although the drivers seemed and still seem solid and I've never mentioned nor had an issue with latency.  Although you said I didn't mention updating any of the drivers, I may have inferred it by saying I installed any and all Windows updates which included drivers.
I have worked with PC's for 20 years, building, supporting, programming, etc.. I have seen a plethora of problems that run the gamut of easy to very complex and even to unexplainable - which I usually don't accept.. lol.  This laptop runs smooth and I've tuned it up as my main music machine but this issue runs pretty deep and on the surface I can't see a driver issue, no latency issues and no updates pending for anything.  What has my curiousity and perhaps I've not been as detailed as I shoud have been but that this problem does NOT occur and may never have  occurred if I only used headphones.  It only happens when a cable - any cable - is plugged up from my audio device to another device like a mixer or amp.
That's why I explored grouding issues, electrical possibilities etc.  This may be a complex combination of several factors.  Maybe a USB issue, along with a driver and/or even a deep OS issue along with grounding?
Thanks for the link to Windows 8 Tuning Tips for Audio processing but honestly, I had already performed these modifications way before I found that article and read it even before you posted the link.  But thanks for being thorough.
I'd actually be happy if I had to address some clicking or popping - but a complete failure when only cables are connected?  What can I do in the cabling to prevent surges?  I hate to purchase expensive equipment to troubleshoot this, find a surge issue only to have to purchase another laptop, audio interface or something.  Throwing more money at it for only troubleshooting purposes doesn't seem pleasant to me.
I have blue screen logs, memory dump files, etc which have been handed over to Focusrite and still nothing.  I'd like to install Win 10 on it to see if this reoccurs or drop back to Win 7.  I don't know what to do,,,  my first audio interface device to fulfill my dreams of playing live performances and I hit this.. Agh!!!
Frustrated but still willing to troubleshoot,
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Live Capture with a camera via firewire and usb audio interface

I am trying to do a live capture through Final Cut 7.
I want the video feed through the firewire from my HVX200 and the audio feed from a 4 channel usb audio interface (Alesis iO4).
When I have both audio and video input coming in from the HVX200, the live capture works fine.
However, when I change the audio input so that it is coming from the usb audio interface, final cut has an error message saying "Video is not available."
During the preview, I see the video clearly and am getting levels from the iO4.
But when I try to capture, I get the error message.
Is it a processor issue (I've attached my specs below) with problems handling 2 separate inputs?
I'm not quite sure what the problem is.
    Any input is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi MtD,
Yes I am changing the Capture preset to iO4.  Once that happens, it lets me run both the camera and the iO4 into the laptop but then an error message pops up the moment I try to capture it.
I was only trying to use 3 out of the 4 channels of the iO4.
    Thanks!

    Pancenter,
Thanks for the response, but I do not have a midi interface. I am using a midi to usb connector cable, thus bypassing the need for a Midi interface.
The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Tristan
    Tristan...
This is what you have, correct?
    http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
    This from Alesis..
"The AudioLink Series USB cable receives and outputs MIDI signal thanks to its internal interface. The USB-MIDI Cable connects plug-and-play to your Mac or PC for an all-in-one USB-MIDI solution."
Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

  • USB Audio Interface not working anymore

I have a Presonus Audiobox USB Audio Interface. Worked perfectly until I updated to Mavericks, now I get a screeching noise when used and the sound switches to the built in Mac sound.
So then I reboot and it does it again. The Audio box doesnt have any software since its a plug and play. Any help?

  • No input using usb audio interface

I recently bought a Tascam US-1641 USB Audio Interface that Im running with logic studio 8. I'm not getting any audio coming through when recording. I have selected the item in preferences but im not getting any input or output.
anyone had similar problems or know where i might have made a stupid error.

    Hi
Firstly, sorry for not being able to help as I share the same problem.
I've recently bought a novation nio 2/4 audio interface for logic pro 8.
I have the same problem with getting sound from it. What are you trying to record e.g. instrument?
I also have a usb midi keyboard that I plugged straight in and got sound through logic straight away so I don't know why the audio interface should be much different.
Please let me know if you happen to stumble across an answer as it is driving me crazy!

  • Recording Skype using Soundflower and usb audio interface as aggregate

I want to record Skype calls.
I installed Soundflower and Audacity records Skype far side audio fine when Soundflower is selected as the input. However, I want to record far side audio PLUS my microphone that runs through my Focusrite Forte usb audio interface (Audacity records my mic just fine with Forte selected as the input).
So I created an aggregate input device in OS 10.9 consisting of the Forte and Soundflower inputs. When I test out the aggregate audio input in the Mac audio settings, I see soundbars from both devices. However, when I choose the aggregate device as the input in Audacity, only the Forte device is recorded (not Skype).
Any ideas as to why only one of the two devices in the aggregate input is being recorded by Audacity?
Did I set up the aggregate incorrectly?
    Many thanks!
