Are wifi problems connected to 3G settings?

My iPad intermittently disconnects from my home wireless Hub/modem.
I have noticed that the problem does not occur when 'cellular data' is turned off!
Are others experiencing the same odd behaviou?
Regards

There are many different iterations of the wifi issues. Some may be tied to interference from other sources, but I have seen no direct tie-in with 3G in these threads.
Additionally, many of the wifi issues are on wifi-only ipads, so that eliminates the 3G connection as a source of interferance in those cases.
My first ipad was Wifi-only and it had wifi issues.

  • Wifi problem - connection stalls. MSI GE620DX

    Hi,
Bought this laptop May 2011. OS Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Centrino Wireless-N 130 wifi adapter (from Windows device manager).
I have had the same Wifi problem from the beginning. The Wifi connection stalls every 5-20 seconds or so. The wifi stays connected but basically it is just like it is losing packets for some seconds. Like if I'm streaming a video (Internet or LAN, the exactly same thing) with VLC, the video starts to play nicely but after 5-10 seconds it starts to skip frames and stops for 1-4 seconds and then continues again. (But Youtube for example usually works better, because it buffers the video and can handle these network errors.)
Other services behave exactly similarly, like file transfer. It is relatively slow to begin with but also varies in speed. If I transfer from another computer in the same LAN (other computer with wired connection) the speed is about 600-700 kB/s. Web browsing sometimes needs a refresh on the browser to get the page to load. I tried pinging my router, results were: Sent = 2730, Received = 2589, Lost = 141.  Round trip fastest = 1 ms, slowest = 2407 ms, average = 7 ms.
So, you understand this is quite frustrating at times.
I initially thought the problem is just some incompability with my router and this MSI laptop Wifi. But I now have experience with four different networks in four different locations and the results are always very similar. So I am quite sure the fault is with the MSI. With wired connection there's no problems at all but that is not always possible and basically the Wifi should just work.
I have tried different driver version but absolutely no difference. The latest driver was just updated from Windows Update and no difference in performance. I have also tried to let both the Intel PROSet/Wireless software and Windows to manage the Wifi connections, but again, no difference what so ever.
    I'm kinda thinking it's a hardware problem.
Any advice or should I just contact MSI for repairs? Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Buluunee!
After your advice I decided to once again reinstall, starting by uninstalling the driver and also Proset. Once uninstalled both, I just installed the driver (or actually Windows found it automatically, altough I thought I had removed it). Now, without the Proset, this seems to be working!
There was something odd happening after a reboot, wifi connected but didn't get IP address. Another device worked fine on the same network. I had an extra router and this is working nicely even after some shutdowns. So, it seems this was after all a softaware problem.

  • Wifi problem connecting

After almost 2 years - now have problem connecting my macbook pro with my home wifi from comcast - appears to work with outside networks -  all my other apple devices have no problem - 3 iphones, 2 ipads, another macbook pro - apple says its comcast issue - had router swapped out - problem remains

If it's a single-band (2.4GHz) router, try setting the router channel to 11. I don't know why, but it just seems to be the channel that all devices use simply.

  • C3 wifi problem (connect to wlan but internet not ...

    Hi!
I bought mi Nokia C3 last week.
I dont have "internet plan" from my operator, so I must use only wifi (in my office) when I need enter to OVI store.
The problem is: the phone detect the wlan and I can connect to it, but when I try to enter to OVI store, (for example)... Connecction Fail...
    please, any idea? any help?
comments are welcomed (sorry for my english, I am from India).
    thanks!
    prak

Hey there, You english is just fine very nice!
You are having issues because the OVI store app is trying to use the mobile network to connect to the web, That could be because it is set as the default connection in all apps. If you go in to connectivity settings in the phone you should be able set the default Access point in all apps. Or at least change it so the phone will ask you what APN you would like to use to connect.
"Freedom is the only way, yeah!"

  • Problem connecting Nokia C3 to home wireless route...

    Good day, Nokia!
I recently bought a Nokia C3-00 WiFi phone but I can't seem to browse my home wireless connection with it. The phone can detect and connect with the wireless network successfully but when I open my mobile browser, it can't load websites, saying "Service not available."
However, I can connect and browse the internet through other WiFi hotspots, just not my home connection. The router I'm using is LP-8616. It's an AP router, if that helps. Unfortunately, there's no firmware upgrade for this router anymore.
I've read all the threads about this problem here and all over the internet but still nothing works for me. Hope you or somebody here could help me to finally solve this problem. More Power!

Allsolution from another post, see /t5/Cseries/C3-wifi-problem-connect-to-wlan-but-internet-not-work/m-p/950115#M14517. Found out how to solve the problem of connecting via WLAN in the following way (the phone was able to connect to the Internet only through the GSM provider network):
Step 1: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal Settings> Add> Web or Streaming or any other (Just add, needs no other settings)
Step 2: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Default config. settings (choose MyWeb, Personal Settings or the name created at step 1)
Step 3: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal settings (delete the field created in step 1) then go to Menu> Settings> Configuration> Preferred access point (choose one of the available options)
Now you can open your browser and try to connect. It should ask what method you choose (WLAN or Access Point Preferred)
If your phone does not want to be connected via the GSM provider network, the user can manually enter settings for defining an Access Point (Step 4)
Step 4: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal Settings> Add> Access Point (check with GSM provider for account settings)
Step 5: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Preferred access point (select the field you created earlier)
I know that what I wrote above may seem like science fiction for a user who is not accustomed to butoneasca phone and non-stop, but I assure you that the operation should take no longer than 5 minutes.

  • Problems connecting IOS devices with new Comcast wireless cable modem?

Just installed a new cable modem from Comcast, it is their new high speed unit manufactured by Cisco. of the three IOS devices I've tried, all running currently the OS , are having problems connecting with  the error "Unable to join the network " Home-XXXX" if you keep asking it may connect but I have to be persistant.  My Devices are iPad 4 g Retna with 30pin connection, an iTouch ,latest model with camers, and current iPad mini. is it me or the modem?

You have probably already solved this issue, but I would hide the comcast wifi network (dont broadcast ssid) and make the password very hard. Make sure that put it on channel that does not conflict with your Airport Extream.
Connect the Comcast modem/router to the airport extream's wan port with an ethernet cable.
Comcast usually ships the DHCP enabled. Use the comcast DHCP server for your airport.
Configure the airport extream to "create a network" set the network to "bridge mode".
Name your network, broadcast the ssid all on the airport. Now all your devices will connect everytime. Use can use the Comcast "private" wireless network for maintenance, etc.
    Just some thoughts... good luck

  • "There was a problem connecting to the server "Bill's Time Capsule".

Many times a day I receive a small message saying "There was a problem connecting to the server "Bill's Time Capsule".  I've also had problems with my computer not recognizing that two of my wireless HP printers are turned on.  These problems have occurred since I downloaded OS X Yosemite (10.10.2).
Are these problems connected?  How do I solve them?

Yosemite is poor.. it has poor networking and poor TM.. and is buggy all round. Although I am surprised if the issues started at 10.10.2.. I would have thought just continued unabated.
Anyhow reset the AE to factory and redo the setup.
Please use all names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Passwords the same 8-20 mixed case and numbers.. whereas names can be even shorter.
Ensure IPv6 in the computer is set to link local only for whatever network you use.. be it wireless or ethernet.. eg wireless.
And if the TC is bridged.. then try and keep its IP from drifting.. this can be a bit difficult. Need to set dhcp reservations on the main router. If the TC is main router this is not going to be a problem.

  • We are on holiday in Mexico. Our iPad has no problem connecting to the Internet through a subscription WiFi network. But, both of our laptops can not with the same password. What can we try?

We are on holiday in Mexico. Our iPad2 has no problem connecting to the Internet through our hotel's subscription WiFi network. But, both of our macbookpros can not with the same password. What can we try?
We can join the network, but can not access the Internet. The password is correct. We have tried network assistant and diagnostics, restarting the laptops, re-joining the network. Our iPhone 4s also works all the time.
Same location. Signal strength is good.

Since I couldn't figure out a way to edit our original post, here's another potential clue.
Our laptops, when in System Preferences>Network, say "WiFi has the self-assigned IP address of XXXXXXXXX and will not be able to connect to the Internet".
Strangely, my six year old MBP running OS 10.6.8 accessed the Internet straight away, just by opening Safari to my home page. My wife's six month old MBP running OS 10.7.2 could not.

  • HT4623 update to ios 6.1.1 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet, when I am connected to my Wifi. Do I need to adjust some settings?

Update to IOS 6.1.1 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the Internet when using home Wifi and verifing connectivity by using Safari to surf net and viewing wifi setting. Do setting need to be adjusted?

This is what worked for me: Double tap your home button to bring up the programs running in the back ground, press and hold so they show the red close option and close all programs.  After that shut your iphone down and power back on.  Immediately go to General>Software Update and it should work.  Good Luck

  • Lenovo G505 Wifi Problems - Limited Connection, No Connection, and Dropped Connections

Some forum members have reported a variety of Wifi issues with their G505 laptops. Their reports range from showing "Connection is limited", to Wifi connections dropping repeatedly, to being unable to make a Wifi connection at all. I combined multiple threads in order to assist forum members with troubleshooting solutions.
If your G505 was upgraded to Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and then lost connectivity, or you recently purchased a G505 running Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and are unable to connect, try following the instructions posted by Vikramsbox to restore the connection through the Lenovo Communications Utility.
For non-Windows 8.0 or 8.1 users, start troubleshooting with the basics:
The most recent WLAN, BIOS, and Power Management drivers from Lenovo can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g505-no...
It is also good practice to verify your Wifi is activated by following the instructions from Neokenchi.
Check Power Management settings to ensure your laptop isn't turning off the Wifi as noted by Dannyk1.
Check to see that Airplane Mode is set to OFF by following the instructions provided by Shiv_K.
After trying those steps, if you still experience a Wifi issue with your G505, other troubleshooting steps have been noted in this thread. This includes a whitelist of accepted replacement WLAN cards posted by Topmahof and a 3rd party driver which resolved wifi issues for Miila and Jessemck125. Please note that while Lenovo does not support 3rd part drivers, it may be an option to consider if your laptop is out of warranty and none of the suggestions in the thread resolve the issue.

First is to update your Atheros/Broadcom driver for your G505 here:http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/wlan117w8.exe
From what I understand, the situation is that you get limited connectivity while your other devices that are connected to the router gets uninterrupted internet access.
After updating your drivers, you can try to flush your DNS cache by copy and pasting this code to your notepad and saving it as FlushDNS.bat
    @Echo on
    pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
    attrib -h -s -r hosts
    echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
    attrib +r +h +s hosts
    popd
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /flushdns
    netsh winsock reset all
    netsh int ip reset all
    shutdown -r -t 1
    del %0
Note that this will restart your computer so make sure to save your session first.
Here's the link that explains the benefit of flushing DNS: http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/144365-network-posting-tips.html
Hope this resolves your random "limited connectivity" problem.

  • I am having problems connecting to my home wifi with my iphone4s

Over the past couple of weeks I have experienced a problem connecting to my home wifi service (Sky) with my iphone4s although my laptop connects fine. My phone also picks up the wifi at my place of work. At home when in close proximity to the router (netgear) on the phone the network name appears in the wifi settings but on the wifi networks page it does not get a tick against the name (wheel just keeps revolving). I have taken it back to the retailer (Vodaphone) and they recommend it be sent back to Apple (Liverpool or Manchester) as they consider it a hardware fault. I will be without the phone for probably 1-2 weeks and I use it within my working environment regularly.
    Has any one any ideas?
    jd
ps. If I go down the route of 'forget this Network' will I need to do any resets on the router as I cant find the username and password when I enter my IP address for the router.

  • IPhone can't connect to my wifi, can connect to others. My other devices are fine. Basic T-shooting steps fail.

Sorry for the repeat post but I want to get more help with this.
Prior to problem: All devices surfing wirelessly on Airport Express.
Replaced Airport Express with Time Capsule.
Problem: Wife's iPhone4 (5.1.1) can not surf on wifi provided by my time capsule. All my other devices (iMac, Mac Air, iPad and my iPhone) can. Wife's iPhone can surf on an unsecure network somewhere nearby in my apartment complex. (Which to me, rules out a hardware problem).
Steps taken: Tapped iPhone wifi On/Off multiple times with no change. "Forget this network" multiple times with no change. Reset iPhone Network Settings multiple times with no change. Restored iPhone using iTunes as New iPhone once with no change. (Since doing that, I have restored with back up of iPhone settings and data.) Powered Time Capsule on/off several times with no change. Turned wireless security off with no change. Security is back on. It is WPA 2 Personal with a lengthy password. I'm not getting the "incorrect password" msg. Renewed lease multiple times with no change.
Other indications: 3G is in upper left. Status wheel is spinning next to my network's name. On the initial "Settings" window, my network name is shown (as if it were connected. But tapping it and going to the "wifi networks" window shows the list of available networks with the status wheel spinning next to mine.) Tapping the blue arrow on my network name leads to the window that has "forget this network" at the top, and a list of blank fields: IP address, subnet mask, router and so on. DHCP is chosen, HTTP proxy is OFF. Sometimes, the top two fields (ip address and subnet mask) have values filled in, but the rest of the fields don't.
On my Time Capsule, as seen via Airport Utility (V5.5.3), 3 devices are shown as connected. Clicking this provides a listing. My wife's iPhone wi-fi address is listed. It's "rate" however is 1. My imac is 216 and my iphone is 65. BTW, iOS devices drop off the list when they go to sleep. No big deal there.
Back to Airport Utility, in the summary tab... status is normal, version is 7.6.1, wireless mode is "create a wireless network", security is "wpa/wpa2 personal", channel is 149 auto and 1 auto (I tried changing 1 to 11 with no change), connect using "ethernet" and finally my IP address begings with 76. 76.xxx.xxx.xxx
Moving to the "Wireless" tab of Airport utility... wireless mode is "create a wireless network", radio mode is auto, radio ch. selection is auto, wireless security is wpa/wpa2 personal, "remember password in keychain" is checked.   Now Clicking on the "wireless network options" button..... 5ghz is not checked, country is USA, multicast rate is "low", t-mit power is "100%", WPA group key timeout is 1 day (it used to be 1 hour but this has made no change in the problem), "use wide channels" is not checked, "create a closed network" is not checked.
MAC access control is not enabled. But it was enabled previously and I added my devices by their Wi-Fi addresses one at a time until i decided to turn it off due to this problem. this resulted in no change with the problem.
Personally, I feel the prob lies with the DHCP and ip address and related fields, but I don't know enough about what their values should be in relation to my other devices to alter them on my own.

I pasted below a response that helped.... sort of. I followed the directions below. At the end, all my devices were connected to my network. BUT, the last device I connected, my MacAir, did not stay connected for long. It now has the exclamation point in the middle of the wi-fi icon in the top right of the screen.
This event agrees with my original problem: It was my wife's iPhone that was the last to be connected to my network and the only one to fail to connect.
Is there a limit to how many devices can be connected to my time capsule? I have 5 devices. What is "extending?" Do I need to do that?

This solved my questionRe: Airport Express wifi network not working
    Mar 1, 2012 1:46 PM (in response to Don_McCracken)
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon, then click the Internet Connection tab
Make sure that the setting for Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
    Update to save any changes
Then power down the entire network...all devices....power down order is not important
    Wait a few minutes
Power up the modem/router first and let it run a full minute by itself
Power up the Express the same way
Continue powering up devices one at a time the same way until everything is powered back up
You should be able to connect through the Express and on to the Internet

  • TS1398 I have been having network problems on my Ipad and I reset all network settings as advised in the article about problems connecting to networks.  Now my Ipad will not allow me to sign onto any network....it will not accept the passwords for any net

My ipad has been a little glitchy for the last couple of weeks....not able to load pages because of DNS lookup failure and really slow loading...some of which has to do with the DSL service I have, but I followed the directions on one of the Apple wi-fi issues pages to reset network all connections..which I did, and now the Ipad cannot connect to WiFi because it will not accept (or cannot resolve..or??) password.  I am sure I am typing the password correctly and have tried it on several routers..and it cannot cannect to any router properly even with the correct password.  My laptop is connected just fine and it accepts the password and I have confirmed the password with the ISP and tried other routers.
So the question is what should I do if I am entering the right password and the Ipad can't sign itself on to the Wifi network?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I have just updated the i06 software for my iPad and it will not connect to my home wifi network - all my other devices are able to connect to my wifi network.
I have attempted all troubleshooting actions suggested and nothing has worked. I have restored my iPad network and factory settings - Please help - this is frustrating me

you have to set up your router to solve th problem. first find and write down the ipad mac address.
then log on to your router using your laptop or any device that can connect to router at 192.168.0.1 in your web browser. please check out my posting about how to resolve the wifi connection problem.
i think the ios6 update has reset the networking but if you set up the router then you should not have the same problem any more.

  • Problems Connecting iPod Touch 32GB to WiFi

    Hi,
I have just purchased an iPod Touch 32GB and am having problems connecting to a server. I am using a Netgear DG834 router to connect to Orange. Netgear is now showing as checked on the Wi-Fi Networks page on the iPod with strong signal strength but I keep cannoy getting the message "could not connect to server" whenever I try any of the applications. Needless to say, the internet connections on my laptop and desktop are working perfectly. Thanks. Grant

Have you tried resetting your router? sometimes this is all you need to do to get the IPT to work properly. If you are using any type of security such as WEP or WPA2 then you are going to need to enter your password. Try a reset and then go to your wifi settings in the IPT and select your router and then click on the little blue arrow and check under DHCP and make sure you have an IP along with a router Ip and DNS entries. If you don't have a router IP or DNS entries try and renew the lease.
If you can't get it to work then reset the router again but this time try it without any security and do the same procedure as above. If that still doesn't work then the only other thing I can suggest is to look on Netgears website and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your router and to give that a try.
