Are within-app downloads backed up in iTunes

Certain apps need extra files to be downloaded, certain apps allow purchases within them. Are these files backed-up in iTunes while syncing?

When you drop a pin in the iPhone Maps app, you can then tap the blue arrow at the right end of the pin's label which gives you the option to save to your map bookmarks. Selecting that option will also allow you to rename the bookmark to something useful to you. The iTunes iPhone backup includes Map bookmarks, recent searches, and the current location displayed in Maps.

  • IOS apps downloads not in the iTunes Store

There are many iOS apps downloads site apart from iTunes Store can be downloads. My question is, how can i downloads the apps to my iPad?
Is it perform as the same as the iTunes store? And why do the price differ from each other. Say for instance, i saw the angry birds are free, but in the iTunes Store is USD1.99?

The apps cant be download straight to your device, like the iTunes Store does! I'm not sure wheather its legal or unlegal though. Pls check again from the said site, read the instructions and best of luck!
If you ask me, i rather be download it from iTunes Store rather then gamble it. Maybe it can affect the stability of the apps and thus your device

There are only App Store/Books/Podcasts and ITune on my Itune store heading, why? This means I cannot order music as a Hong Kong subscriber?

That's correct.  It seems that music is not yet available in the Hong Kong store.

  • Why do app downloads time out? iTunes 10.6.3.25

I have VZW FiOS, running iTunes 10.6.3.25 on Windows 7 and everytime I download app updates to iTunes they time out - it does not matter if there is 1 app, 3, 30, or more - I find I'm constantly clicking on dialog boxes and the "resume all" button in the downloads window. This is the only progra. Using the same connection on my iPhone they do not time out. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Okay I waited 2 weeks and in that time I had one multiple app download session where I disabled my firewall and still had the issue so I reenabled my firewall. I'm in the process of downloading a total of 48 app updates and thus far it has not kicked out the error. This is telling me that the issue was on Apple's end and it appears to be fixed. I'll give it one more multi-app download session. Thanks for the help and the suggestions.

  • Why are most app downloads these days as a .dmg file?

What ever happened to the old .sit, .cpt, .sea and other formats that used to dominate the Mac download world years ago? It seems like 99% of my app downloads these days are as a .dmg file. In wonder if they are better than .sit.
    John

Apple includes built-in zip support, as well as DMG, of course.
It used to be that Apple included Stuffit Expander, but now, you need no extra software - assuming everyone moves to zip and DMG files.
Works well, and frankly, at first it bugged me, but now I prefer it.
That's likely due to 22 years of using Macs...

  • Are purchased app configuration backed up or synced from itunes?

if you have a purchased app that is configured on ipad1, is it possible to copy/transfer the configuration to ipad2.  for instance setup a mobile printing app and dropbox app with logon account and personal printer choices. backup and sync ipad1 with itunes. connect ipad2, reset to factory specs, restore from backup and sync apps.  the setup of the mobile printing app and dropbox does not come across with either bacup or sync.  any thoughts, recommendations or solutions?  thanks in advance

I doubt very much that you can recover the data at this point. The safe way to do things (I found for me at least) is download apps initially via iTunes instead of your phone, then mark them for syncing and do the normal sync. I purchased all of my apps this way and sync several times a week with no problem. I also do all the app updates thru iTunes.

  • Are some apps just not compatible with iTunes 10.5/iOS 5.0?

Seems some apps on my iPod, conflict with iTunes 10.5.
I started having the Store issue, which ALWAYS showed and worked, never had trouble accessing, never got a blank page... that started happening.
(I think live search when typing is a bad idea)
I had added back a few, by download and via iTunes, but next time I connected iPod, there was problem with iPod showing as a device, and with iTunes Store.
Removed the 4 apps I had added/reinstalled, and now back to normal.
Skype, RockMelt, iCab Mobile, Reeder, Transphotos
I don't know if it was the combination or if it was Skype or photo retouch/editing or one of the others.
I use to have 4.1GB "Other" also and that is now a more comfortable 1.1GB of space.
NY Times "newstand" would not work on 4.3.5, or would but could not by synched, could not be moved to another iPod screen. So basically broken and may have led to other problems. These apps that work with iOS 5 but are not backward compatible, or the reverse situation, they aren't really 5.0 compatible.
For me, I have to wait for Windows and iTunes to settle down, then connect iPod only. And when the iPod device would "vanish". Now where are the "dot one" patched bug-fix verfsions?
And for those still on 4.3.5 and earlier, where is the means to keep and not update to a new version believing it will be backward compatible (and maybe the specs said "iOS 4+" when it should say it reqquires "Newstand and iOS 5+".

Mounting a device in iTunes 10.5 with some incompatible apps will cause the device to unmount (disappear) from iTunes. Remove the offending app from the device before you next connect to iTunes and should now mount and stay mounted. Restart AMS if needed.
New app that I put on iPhone will cause this. iPhone no longer shows in iTunes: Devices.
    click on "Devices" in iTunes
    drop down list of categories
    Suggest for features:
Keep prior version in iTunes backup library
    Version, when installed or updated
When in Apps, have option to go to product page directly. Easier and more likely to provide feedback.
When in iTunes Store and in Apps, search would by default look first and foremost in App Store section.
iTunes Store Category: iOS 5 Apps.
Some are iOS 5 only and not backward compatible.
    Those should not be offered.
Some say that they are iOS 4.x and later but are no longer.
NYTimes now requires Newstand and 5.0 (I wrote and don't think they tested or were aware it wasn't backward or would not synch under iTunes 10.5). Was the prime reason I even upgraded to iOS 5, too! ouch.  iTunes 10.5 as tested vs as it actually is - differed and has significant impact. So give developers more access & time to test and certify against 10.5 before offering iOS 5. Why the rush instead of have a smoother rollout? it gets old afterawhile and looks rushed.
For now, be careful.  It is hard to know what is compatible, and what to avoid even now, or especially now with the updates from Friday 28th.
Uninstalling an app may be one way to "troubleshoot" but that also removes settings, and requires more work to authorize, customize, and setup again.
    Where is chkdsk for iOS?
Last, does an app crashing or freezing corrupt the settings? the app itself? memory? leave behind "other" storage addresses that can't be used until fixed by remvoing and restoring not just app, but everything?

  • Do my files within apps get backed up?

Specifically I have all my lecture notes on "Note taker HD" and it would be dissasterous for me to loose them so if i wipe my ipad and then restore from backup will those files be on there (and not just the app)? thanks

Yes - if you restore from the backup the data should be in the backup. If the notes are that important, you should backup the iPad every day .... If you use the app every day that is. Make sure your backup is always current.
If you depend upon an app that heavily, you should always read all of the information that is available so that you know what the app does and does not do. According to this text which I copied from the app description page in iTunes, it also offers "backup to a single file for off iPad storage". That sounds to me like you can store the notes/app data on your computer as well.
If the app works with file sharing - which it probably does - you can transfer the files to iTunes and then to your computer for safe keeping as well.
You can use "Open In" in other apps or iTunes to send PDF files to Note Taker HD for annotation.
    Other features include:
    - Support for the retina display on new iPads
    - Pages organized into documents and folders
    - Typed blocks of text with optional borders
    - 60+ highly customizable shapes
    - Insert and crop images from Photo Albums, Pasteboard, or the iPad camera
    - Custom backgrounds from images or PDF pages
    - Free templates and clip art on the support web site
    - VGA/HDMI/AirPlay support with zoom and pan
    - Wrist guard to avoid inadvertent touches
    - Layout variations better suited to some left-handed users
    - Optional fields in output footers like in a word processor
    - Extensive built-in help
    - Smooth and crisp ink on screen and in PDF output
    - Share editable copies of your documents with others
    - Backup to a single file for off-iPad storage
    - Password protected folders
    - Support for the iOS Data Protection API
    - Full-screen preview mode
    - Copy/Cut/Paste between pages
BTW ... Just so that you know - the app itself is not contained in the backup. If you are using iTunes, you would have to sync the app back to the iPad or download it again from the App Store in the event of some disaster with the iPad. The app data is stored in the backup but not the app itself.

  • Why are my apps downloading to my husbands iphone?

I set up a seperate itunes account for myself so that this would not happen but now my recent app purchases are downloading to my husbands iphone as well as mine. Why is that?

I think I might have figured it out, but perhaps someone with more knowledge can tell me.
I believe what happened is that I plugged my phone into our computer and automatically assumed that iTunes would notice the seperate accounts and switch them. So I didn't log out of my husbands iTunes account and synced my phone. We use the same password for both Apple ID's or iTunes accounts, whichever they are called, so when my phone asked for my password to download the new apps it could have changed the ID and I not realise it.
So right now I have logged out of my husbands iTunes account, logged into mine and am now syncing. My new question, will this fix the problem so long as we take the care to log into the correct account before syncing?

just a hunch but do you us more than one iTMS account to purchase content ?
right-click on the app in iTunes and +get info+. go to the summary pane and check with which account it was purchased
if you then log into that account, you should be able to update the app and the number will disappear.

  • Why are my apps downloading again on my iPad

Today I purchased 4 new apps for my iPad. I didin't do anythign differently but this time when I synced my iPad the apps just read 'waiting' beneath the icon and now I have to redownload them over wifi. This is the same for all 4 of them. What is going on, I never had to do this before. Once they were downloaded into iTunes they synced with the iPad and they were ready to run.

That's very curious as the appeared to take a long time to download each. They also reported being fully downoladed in the download window in iTunes. It's certainly never happened before that they would synchronise without being fully downloaded.

    Hi there apearsal,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’ve purchased movies with your Apple TV and want to know how to download those movies to your iPad, so that you can watch them later without a Wi-Fi network connection. Take a look at this article, it’ll walk you through the process of downloading purchases:

  • Are the Apps downloaded form BB World controlled and secure.

    Hi,
I wonder if BB controls/checks all the applications offered. Many of them require access to personal data etc. and some does not allow installation if not accepted. Is it safe to accept and install?
    Thanks!

There is definitely more checking than say on an Android phone.
It's always going to be a case of buyer beware no matter how much checking is done, there will always be apps out there trying to trick you in to something.  However BB10 is a very secure OS with each app in it's own sandbox and inaccessible to others.
For extra security you can look for apps that have the Built for BlackBerry designation indicating that they have gone through a much more rigorous checking procedure (including security). Apps that have been ported from Android cannot get this designation so if you have a choice and are concerned avoid Android ports, choose native and if possible those awarded Built for BlackBerry.
If you've been helped click on , if you've been saved buy the app.

  • We are new ipad users and we're trying to download a film from itunes in Germany. It seems locked in aperpetual download mode. any suggestions?

we are trying to download a movie on itunes in Germany and it just stays locked in perpetual dowlaoding mode. We are new ipad users. Any suggestions?

How long have you waited to download this movie, and how fast is your internet connection?
The movies can be a few gigabytes in size, so if could take a few hours to download if your internet connection isn't super fast.
