Are You Slowing Down The Internet For Everyone or Just Your Customers?

Hi,
I heard you are going to decide which websites we can visit easily and which ones we will have a hard time connecting to.
Is this just for people with Verizon Service?
If so, I want to switch to a different service provider because you are too arrogant to do business with.
Who give you the right to limit my choice of which websites I can go to?

I hear ya!   ... and we all know how desparate print media is for readership these days!

    I sent an email from my iPhone 3GS (via iCloud account) with around 16GB of attachment. It slowed down the phone for a few seconds, then appeared to be sent. However, the message is now not in the sent box, and I can't see an outbox at all. Any ideas?

    That changes things a little bit , login to icloud.com and see if you can find it in your sent folder.
    If it is there you did send, just need to wait until you phone syncs "sent folder" perhaps on wifi.
    If it is not, then I would say it is lost and you may have to send again. They have 20 megs limit, so make sure that message plus attachment is under that limit.

  • Can you go on the internet for free??

    Hello - I have a iMac G3 350 Mhz that I want to give to my mother, who lives on
    a limited budget. My question is (and it's probably a lame question, but): Using
    OS 9.2.2 and Netscape (which has free email), is it possible to plug in the phone line for dial-up, open up Netscape Communicator, and surf the internet?? I tried this today, after trying to set up the TCP?IP Control Panel correctly, but it didn't work. Does anybody know if one can do this?... I would like to install OS X on this computer, but I will first need to replace the internal drive, which is either 4 or 6 gigs..... Thank you very much.
    iMac G3 350 Mhz   Mac OS 9.2.x

    If there is a free service out there as you explain, I am not aware of it.
    If you are using Dial Up ...DSL...or Cable, you will need to get in touch with them.
    I will give you an example.AOL sends out thousands of free CD's which enable users to download the said CD on there computer which allows them to have acsess to the Internet for so many Minutes FREE, The catch is you have to sign a contract for a year and you are stuck.
    If you are going to get a service I suggest going with a higher speed connection, like DSL or Cable.. They will all charge so much a month.. The faster the connection the more money..
    You mention Netscape, it is a browser, which enables you to read any data that is on any of the web sites you visit.
    With OS 9 you will probably use one of several Browsers that are all free. Netscape... Internet Explorer.. Firefox
    I would lean toward an Open Source such as Firefox..
    If you are planning to upgrade the HD, I suggest you get more RAM, I think you will find 512 MEG of RAM is a good number for the 350.
    I think you will also find it is cheaper to buy a used Mac than attempt a HD Change in the iMac.
    So to sum this up you need more Ram whatever you decide to do. Then you need to shop around for an Internet Service Provider in your area, and please shop around, and if I were you I would try to stay clear of Dial up unless that is your only choice... Good Luck.. Don

  • Can you SLOW down the presentation of the Slideshow feature?

    Just published my first Web site with iWeb -- great program. However, I find the Slideshow feature for the photo album page a little kwerky -- sometimes it works, other times it stalls, even after I decreased file sizes to under 100K.
    When it does work the rate that it presents the photos is too fast for my purpose. Is there any way I can slow it down?

  • I'm using Word for Mac. Though there are various instructions on the Internet for modifying the templates, none make sense to me. They instruct to do something I can't follow. I change a template but can't save it to the template folder.

    What the ****.
    OK, I try to change a template using Word for Mac version 14.3.4 2011 edition.
    I make a change to the template but am unable to save the darned thing to the template folder; it asks for a file name like it's a new document. I want to change the blasted template but if I can't save it as a modified template, I've accomplished nothing.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks

  • Does e17 lock up all the time for everyone, or just me?

    Every time I install e17 it locks up X on me frequently. It doesn't do it when it's just idling, but I feel like if I click too much or too fast, it'll freeze on me.
    It's very frustrating because it's like this every time I install it, which is about once a month, because I really want to use it.
    And this happens on the first run, where I haven't even loaded it up with modules. I'll be changing the theme and it'll lock up on me.
    A lot of people say that it's been super stable, but not for me.
    I do have an Nvidia card with the latest proprietary drivers and I always install e17-svn from the community repos.
    What's the deal, E?

    smartboyathome wrote:I have kept my E17 at a very old revision which I know is stable using my easy-e17 package (from 10-07-09) and it has been working great for me. If you'd like to know how, I made a tutorial here.
    Is Bling less crash-prone now?  Back when I was using E, that critter would crash E many times daily.

  • Time Machine backups slow down TC internet connection

    I'm having a problem with my TC internet connection slowing down dramatically. When I connect my DSL modem directly to my Mini, it's fine. When I connect it to the TC there are big slow downs off and on. I'm wondering if the backups done by TM slow down the internet connection and the network as a whole.

    Over ethernet no, it would have almost no effect.. over wireless yes.. it can have a big effect.
    How big are the backups generally? These should only be incremental and relatively small.
    Measure your actual speed of copying a file to the TC.. if you can put numbers to it, that will help. Use the Activity Monitor and see what is the average speed copying a file or when TM is backing up.
    Any improvements to the wireless speed will reduce the time the backup runs and how much time your internet is slow. Wireless is highly range and signal dependent. You might find a network rearrangement where you use the TC close to the Mini can solve the issue.. especially if you can connect to it by ethernet.. and then wireless bridge if you need to.

  • Can you slow down a voicemail you are listening to? I can't understand what someone said to me because they spoke too fast. I just want to know how to slow down the voicemail so I can understand her if it's possible.

    How can you slow down a voicemail you are listening to? Someone sent me a voicemail and they spoke way too fast for me to understand them. I want to know how to slow down the voicemail so I can understand them if that is possible.

       I have to say, this is so weird because it's actually become this way in the past week maybe, and I'm sure me saying this here will be disputed, ridiculed and belittled, and that's absolutely fair, but I've got to say it... up until a few days ago, my iTunes sync/backup area really would keep more than one backup for my one, single iPhone. They were all timed and dated with a drop-down menu (which appeared if I clicked the restore button) to choose which one I wanted to roll back to, for example. Sure, I'd read about the three backups thing etc. etc. and perhaps I got that wrong or misunderstood, but I can honestly say, I only ever had at the most two backups, that I could drop-down and choose to restore from. They were there. Same iPhone. Different dates.
       At the time, when this seemed to be the case, the backing-up process took quite a while. I would leave it to progress while I went and made a cup of tea, come back and it still wasn't finished running. So, not really AGES, but a little while.
       Now, when I perform a backup, the progress bar almost shoots across to a finish. I'll 'fess up... that worries me most of all. I can live without the luxury of a menu of backups... but if it does it once, I'd like to be sure it does it at all.
    Much more importantly though, thank you for your replies so far.
    Any further input, even if it's to belittle or shame is totally welcome. I'd like to understand this a bit more.
    Thanks again.

  • I am unable to get past the first step of Winston Churchill's answer because my phone says "checking for a software update failed because you are not connected to the Internet". Did my WiFi connection also get lost?

    I am unable to get past the first step of Winston Churchill's answer because my phone says "checking for a software update failed because you are not connected to the Internet."  Did my iphone's WiFi connection also get lost with the Contacts, Mail and Text Messages?  When I tried the software update, as recommended by Winston Churchill, the iphone was connected to my desktop which is connected to the Internet.

    You can't use your computers Internet connection to update your phone from the phone itself. If you want to use the computers Internet connection to update your phone you must update it through iTunes.

But i checked my internet on both my pc and iphone and tried again but it still says the same thing. plzz plzz help

    Were you definitely connected to the internet at the time? If you don't have iOS 5 on your iPhone then the only way to update it would be via iTunes, once updated to the latest version of iOS you'll be able to update your iPhone without connecting to iTunes "over-the-air".
    Before updating however it goes without saying to Backup your iPhone, this should happen by default upon connecting your iPhone to iTunes.

  • Solved: message "You are not connected to the Internet" after idle sleep

    Summary: What worked for me was to turn off IPv4 and IPv6 on my unused interface.
    The problem was that after my computer had been in sleep mode, Safari would say:
    "You are not connected to the Internet."
    or "softwareupdate -l" would say:
    "This computer’s Internet connection appears to be offline."
    Yet Firefox worked OK and traceroute also showed the connection was fine.
    Digging deeper (though only later, after I found the command), "scutil -r" indicated a problem with DNS lookup:
    $ scutil -r developer.apple.com
    Not Reachable
    $ scutil -r 17.254.2.129
    Reachable
    I'm using 10.6.6 on a Mini (model Macmini1,1), which has a wired ethernet connection on en0 and an AirPort on en1. I use the wired connection, but I also configured the AirPort just because, and then turned it off in the network preferences. I use a static (manually-configured) IPv4 address on en0 and DHCP on en1 (when it's up, which is only for experimenting). I don't use IPv6 as such, though I've left it enabled.
    I was initially confused, thinking the problem was intermittent, though it's not. I tended to assume that because the display had gone into standby the computer must be sleeping, without checking that the power light was dimming and brightening, indicating sleep mode. Later I found the "pmset -g" command to display the power management settings. Among the settings is:
    ttyskeepawake 1
    This means that if I had a shell session open in Terminal, which I did quite often when investigating the problem, the computer put itself into idle sleep later than if I didn't have the session open. The times in Energy Saver settings in System Preferences seem not to be very accurate anyway. For instance, with the default computer sleep and display sleep settings of 10 minutes and a shell session open, I've seen it take 17m25s for the display to blank and a further 14m16s for the computer to sleep, for a total of 31m41s.
    The problem only occurs after an idle wait. It doesn't occur after a software sleep (entered from the Sleep entry in the Apple menu or using the keyboard shortcut) or after pressing the power button momentarily.
    One way I found to fix the problem was to turn the AirPort on and then off again through Network Preferences (or the menu bar item). Later I found that disconnecting and reconnecting the ethernet cable also fixed the problem. I hoped to find a better way.
    What led me to this halfway house solution was noticing that if I turned the AirPort on and then off again, entries for en1 still remained in the routing table. These entries were for IPv6 link-local and multicast networks, as in this edited output from "netstat -nr":
    Internet6:
    Destination Gateway Flags Netif Expire
    ::1 ::1 UH lo0
    fe80::%lo0/64 fe80::1%lo0 Uc lo0
    fe80::1%lo0 link#1 UHL lo0
    fe80::%en0/64 link#4 UC en0
    fe80::216:cbff:fexx:xxxx%en0 0:16:cb:xx:xx:xx UHL lo0
    fe80::%en1/64 link#6 UC en1
    ff01::/32 ::1 Um lo0
    ff02::/32 ::1 UmC lo0
    ff02::/32 link#4 UmC en0
    ff02::/32 link#6 UmC en1
    Even with the AirPort switched off, ifconfig showed it as being up:
    en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    ether 00:17:f2:xx:xx:xx
    media: autoselect (<unknown type>)
    status: inactive
    I don't know if these observations are relevant, but anyway they led me to the solution (well, workaround). The way I finally fixed the problem was as follows.
    1. Create a new location in Network Preferences. (This isn't strictly necessary, but it allowed me to keep the AirPort configuration (including my wireless password) intact in the default Automatic location.)
    * Click on the Location pull-down
    * Click Edit Locations...
    * Click +
    * Enter new location name (I called mine Wired-static)
    2. Configure the Ethernet interface with its static address. (If using DHCP, I'd have skipped this step as DHCP is the default.)
    3. Go to the AirPort configuration (even though it's shown as Off).
    * Click on Advanced
    * Click on TCP/IP
    * Select Off for both IPv4 and IPv6
    4. After clicking Apply in Network Preferences, a new "Location" item appears in the Apple menu between "Dock" and "Recent Items". Select the new location. This setting sticks across boots.
    I hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation. Maybe if you use wireless it would help to turn off IPv4 and IPv6 on the Ethernet interface?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset Network Settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - DId the iPod ever successfully connect to the network?
    - Does the iPod successfully connect to other networks?
    - Do other devices successfully connect with your network?

  • You are not connected to the Internet- keeps happening

    New iMac- We click on Safari and the internet comes up and is working.
    Then for some reason I lose the connection at various times.
    The following messages come up:
    1) You are not connected to the Internet
    I click on Network Diagnostics
    2)Choose network port configuration
    I click on Airport
    3) Select Airport Network
    Select the Wireless Network
    I click the wireless network for us which is NETGEAR
    I click continue
    4) Do you use DSL or a cable modem?
    I click No
    Then somehow the internet comes up again
    Am I setting this up properly? Is there something else I can do so we don't go through this
    several times a day.

    I just purchased a new MacBook 10.5.1 w/ I too experience the same problem with a new Macbook running 10.5.1 and Safari Version 3.0.4 (5523.10.6). I have 4 other computers connected via 802.11g (PC's). The same message occurs particularly when another browser window is open. The browser seems MUCH slower than IE (bummer!) and it often displays the "You are not connected to the Internet" message.
    I have a longstanding, stable and reliable network so the network (DNS, b/w, connection, etc.) is not the issue especially given all the other (3) laptops that use the network wirelessly.
    Performance does not improve even when wired but again, ALL my other computers perform much better on wireless than this new MacBook. Kinda bums me out.....the laptop I was hoping to replace is a much older IBM Thinkpad w/ a 1GHz CPU and 768K of RAM but it performs much better than MacBook/Safari!! Puzzling given the 5 year old technology, less powerful h/w and Microsofts bloated code but its not even close.
    Any help or suggestions? I really want to love this machine more than the PC/MS platforms....HELP!
