Then I suggest you read this thread regarding the 30" Apple Cinema Display and that particular message pop up... several possible causes... common denominator, the display.

Message "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now"
I am in OS 10.8.5 on a Mac Pro. I get repeated message upon start-up "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" Restarting does not stop the message. Nor does canceling it. It keeps occuring, blocking my ability to do applications. Because it comes to the front all the time, and the "shutdown" button is lit, if I inadvertently hit a return key while typing something else, the computer shuts down. I have a western digital backup disk-dismounting that has no effect. I have also run the disk utility permissions repair a few times to no avail.
Thanks for any advice.
Nov 26, 2013This might happen if your power button is malfunctioning. Remember a slight tap of the power button will bring up that screen. Bring it in for service if it is readily reproducible.

I see a small window displaying "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now". How do I stop appearing this window
Is this after you've chosen to Shutdown from the Menu, or just on it's own?
You can press the esc key to cancel, or Enter key to shutdown.
Check your System Preferences>Energy Saver>Schedule & see if it's set to shutdown at a certain time. -
"Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" message on start up
This morning on startup I received the popup message "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?". Canceling has no effect. The message just reappears on restart. I've verified the disk; it's fine. I've repaired permissions and I get this message: "Warning: SUID file System/Library/Core has been modified and will not be repaired. Any ideas as to what is going on?
Can you perhaps look in the console (/utilities/console) and watch for what's written around the time of the dialog?
Perhaps an indication is there. -
My 2013 MacBook Pro 13" Solid state Retina display stars then it will randomly show a gray boxed message asking:Are you sure you want to shut down your computer. It gives 4 alternatives Re start, sleep cancel or shut down. This is what it shows before shutdown.
FernandoThis is the Mac Pro desktop forum. I requested your post be moved to the MacBook Pro laptop forum.

It sounds like you need a new battery. Does it show any charge left when you unplug AC?
If it does, try this:

my macbook air keeps coming up with a message" are u sure u want to shut down..etc" after which it switches off by itself. now it's off and will not power on altogether. any suggestions?
Does it power on if you plug in the charger?
But to be honest I see in your description it says 'Late 2011' so there is a good chance you have warranty right, I would take it to Apple store and let them sort it out -
It's easier to just show you -

The window keeps popping us as if the power button is continually being pressed... however it's not. I've tried mashing the button a few times to see if I can get it unstuck but no luck. Ugh this is so annoying because even if I leave the message open and continue work on another window, it will refresh and become the active window again making me have to click to a different window again to repeat work. Typing this forum entry, for instance, was a pain in the butt because of this.
Probably has something to do with the coffee that was spilt on it a year ago... but I haven't had anyissues until now. Please advise, is there away to turn it off? any work arounds anyone knows of?
JohnnyCheck this or maybe the coffee has finally taken it's toll and you might want to take ot in to Apple.

Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?
I keep getting the subject message when I start up the computer. The only way I can get rid of of the message is if I keep rebooting the system for a while. Any one have any ideas as to what is causing this??? Thanks
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8

But first step would be clone your system and run Disk Warrior on the clone, then from there, use DW on your system as well.
As to what other hardware you have, from PCIe to USB/FW, including cables.... the same as FAQ for kernel panics and how to avoid and prevent as the MacFixit/Cnet tutorial goes into. -
My Fantom backup drive is failing and I have to send it in for warranty repair. Before I do that I want to copy the time machine contents to a new drive and then use it for the backup, continuing on as if nothing had gone wrong with the first drive. Can I do this? Is it as simple as duplicating the first drive and replacing it with the second? New drive arrives Tuesday PM and both drives have dual firewire 800 ports.
I have used the Disk Utility to verify the contents of the backup drive so I don't think I have any corrupt files. The drive just takes a minute or so to spin up to speed. If I turn it off and then back on, it beeps at me for a few seconds and then starts it's slow process of trying to spin. I think it's a power problem not a data problem. I have my fingers crossed that it holds on until Tuesday PM when the new drive arrives. I'm thinking that my two options are to duplicate the bad drive or partition the new drive and put the old backups on one partition and start afresh on the second partition. Any input?
And thanks to both of you for the valuable information so far! -
Is this a flash issue or can I force this game to run in the background somehow.
Does this also happen if you run that game in another window?
You can tear off a tab to a new window by slightly dragging the tab down in the browser area. -
How do I stop the sound from a video or email when I want I click out of the video. Presently, the sound continues and I have to escape out to home screen to stop it.
Now as you may know there is some icons at the bottom of the mail app, at the top left conner you should have the inbox button and on the upper right conner you should have two arrows to shift between emails. If any of those options works try :
Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings
If that does not work try to re add the account
Last but not least, restore as new.
Hope that helps. -
Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now? Message
This seems to happen repeatedly with a Macbook Pro and the 30" cinema display.
I have resolved this by unplugging the monitor and plugging it back it.
It doesn't appear to happen when you plug the macbookpro power supply in first before plugging in the cinema display and usb.The display consumes much more power than your MBP, hence the glich. Always use your poewer supply, unless it will be a very short presentaion

Like I said it happens every few minutes... It is annoying when you are on the internet for more than a few minutes because you constantly have to either minimize it or reduce the screen manually by hitting the button and then maximize it again to get the scroll bar to be in view to use it.
Delete the localstore.rdf file at the following location:
C:\Users\'''USERNAME'''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\'''PROFILE NAME'''
I did this and it fixed it for several days, but it broke again eventually. -
