Are you unable to install iTunes 10 on your windows 7 64 bit platform?

Ok, I was having the same issues and tried uninstalling all Apple software. When I tried to uninstall the Apple updater it gave me the same message about something missing. So I right clicked on it in the uninstall window and clicked repair instead. I installed iTunes again and had no issues.
Hope this helps!!

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Unable to install iTunes on my Windows 8 PC

I am trying to install iTunes (64 bit) on Windows 8 PC. In the middle of the installation, it throws up an error message like this
I click ok, and proceed. It says, "Rolling back action". It then proceeds with the installation. When the status says - Starting Services, it again throws up a message like this:
Retry keeps taking me back to this same screen again.
If I click on Abort, it restarts the installation again, and I land up at this same page again.
If I click on ignore, it shows iTunes successfully installed, but when I open, it throws these 2 error messages
Can anyone help me in troubleshooting this issue?
Any pointers in what could the issue be, would be of immense help.
FYI, I am running the installer as an administrator.
    Regards,
    Narayan

Hi Matt, and thanks Narayan for the question.
I am running Windows 8 on my Macbook Pro (2012) via Parallels 8. After quite a bit of patience tested with patches and updates, everything worked fine. But as with Windows, after an update, there will be problems with programs. Running Parallels is very cool, but the downside and truth is that every now and then you will find that the Windows 8 virtual machine does not work as it would on a conventional PC. My iTunes (v11+) worked fine until it detected a potential conflict with another CD/DVD app I installed (either VLC or PowerDVD) and everytime I launched it, an alert would indicate that the Registry for iTunes has a problem as a result and that I should reinstall iTunes. I hesitated doing that because for the most part, my iTunes worked fine (synchs my iPhone 5 on Windows), while my Mac iTunes synchs my iPod Classic 160GB. Now, I have tried three times to down and install iTunes in my Windows 8 virtual machine but three alert window pop-ups appear, and all result in a failed installation. This means, I will not be able to synch my iPhone 5 to my Outlook for the time being and poses a real serious problem in my day to day lifestyle.
First window alert after trying to open installation package:
Because I had cleared my cache with the earlier version of iTunes installed, using Browse, I could not locate those files. So clicking OK, leads to:
Then after clicking OK to clear this message, it leads to:
I am not an engineer and can't tell what the software implication is for these messages. I suppose, it is a Windows and not a iTunes problem, and I may have to take this problem to a Windows Support community. But I just thought to post it here in case, someone has a solution and might just share it still.
Now, I am going to try and remove my VLC program and try re-installing iTunes. But the way I understand the last two window messages, there seems to be a problem with the software trying to connect with Apple while the installation is taking place ("network resource") although my Internet access is definitely working at the time.
Any ideas? Unless this is another Parallels 8 issue, and neither Windows 8 or iTunes!
    Tom

After following instructions for three different solutions that did NOT work; I found the solution that did work
on the support site for Syamntec.
Readers - Please, you must be VERY familiar with pc jargon and windows vernacular to accomplish the reset
of ALL the permissions in your registry.
Follow the ditrections below and pay attention to the notes for those running 64bit Win7.
Step one, back up the registry.
Step two, go to the MS KB: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf -ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en and download the file that installs subinacl. It is an MSI file, and will do a quick install of a few Microsoft files.  Hint: Look in the folder listed below, "subinacle.exe" may already be there.
Step three, create a batch file (subinacle.bat) with the following commands:  (Use Notepad - copy & paste, not the red stuff)
cd /d "Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" (only for 32bit/x86 machines)
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
For 64bit machines substitute for first line of bat file:
                        cd /d "c:\program files (x86)\windows resource kits\tools"
Step four, run the batch file. Let it run until the Command Prompt screen closes, may take 30 minutes or more.
Step five, reboot the machine and run the install again.
Ladies and Gentlemen; this worked for me and allowed immediate installation of two application packages I had been trying for three months!  (Including ITunes 10.5)

  • Unable to install Itunes, Win-XP, Windows Installer error 1722.

When I install itunes on XP-SP3 (fully updated) with Windows installer 4.5 - I get this message half the way through -refer to attachment-
I have uninstalled all apple products, installed quick time - this installed but still provided the error. I have extracted the package and attempted to install each product seperatly however it provides this error only while installing the Apple Software Update. The error code comes from the event viewer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a serious error. With out fixing this we cannot install itunes on the system. Any help please. Thank you.

  • Unable to install itunes 64it, on windows 7, stops at "unscheduling apple software update"

The installation goes on fine, until it begins the "unscheduling apple software update" proccess,  at which point I get a message saying; "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run.
    Any ideas anyone?

When I hit repair for it I get a message saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable",
And when I tried uninstall, it occurs exactly as the original error.
So this is probably damage to the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi (or associated gubbins in the Windows Installer Service installation database for ASU).
Let's try clearing away the existing broken ASU, and seeing if that lets us get iTunes in.
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp and restart the PC. Download a fresh iTunes installer from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does that install go through any better?

  • I am unable to install iTunes due to Windows Installer error message on Vista

I needed to update my iTunes since I purchased the iPad2.  My Windows Vista machine will not allow me to update the program due to a "Windows Installer" error message.  I first attempted to update, then I uninstalled and am unable to reinstall the software."There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run..."

I finally got the program to install/run.  I downloaded a third copy and saved it again on the desktop.  I selected "Run as Administrator" instead of "Run"  It must have been the 10th plus time I tried to install, but this time it completed.  I don't know if the "Run as Administrator" was the key since it is Vista, or if I just got lucky. Either way I am relieved.

I have tried downloading directly from web but it has been sitting gathering required information performing installation tasks window for over an hour. I have disabled Norton....rebooted....nothing allows it to install. All went well on a Windows 7 machine. So assuming its something with Vista. • How do I install iTunes with a Windows 7 account that uses parental controls?

I have setup a small computer for my daughter to use, running Windows 7 Home Premium. I've enabled Parental Controls through the control panel. So far, I've been unable to install iTunes for her. If I try running the installer as admin, when I try to run iTunes as her, I eventually get a message telling me that itunes64.msi was rejected by the digital signature policy. If I run the installer as her, I get a message saying the system administrator doesn't allow the app to run; I have added the installer to the list of allowed applications. Anyone know how to install iTunes in this case?

  • I cant install Itunes on my windows 8 laptop. (unspecified errors encountered)

I have tried to install Itunes and Icloud on my windows 8 laptop. I have hunted all through the laptop and see no sign that any apple product has ever been on this laptop, yet iget errors during the install process that causes the installer to abort the install and go right to finish. I have tried to install Itunes repeatedly and it always fails at the same point. Icloud also fails to install. I get a message that says errors have been encountered, but no indication of what those errors are. can anyone suggest a fix for this? or tell me what it is I am doing wrong?

  • We are unable to find iTunes on your computer when having itunes installed!

A year ago i installed iTunes on my computer when i bought my iPod. I never used the iTunes store. Since a week i have an iPhone and i want to install some apps, like whats app.
So i got myself a click and buy account (since I have no creditcard), put money on that account, went to my iTunes store, clicked on the whatsapp button, selected click and buy as my paring method, loged in, and then in the loading fase to iTunes store it says:
    "one moment please"
    "connecting to THE iTunes store"
    "loading..."
"we are unable to find iTunes on your computer"
I Can then tap 2 boxes:
I have iTunes and download iTunes
I tried the first, but the link that appears doesnt help.
I even deinstalled my iTunes to install it again! And still no success.
I have no Norton security or whatever, just Windows firewall.
So i guess it cant be a firewall error or something.
Does anyone know the solution to this problem?
    You would really help me!

Try a more recent version of my advice. The "for older video cards version" may work when the default version doesn't.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
