Why my PCIE Link Width is only x1 instead of x16

Hi Everyone,
I've got a MSI6600GT 128mb installed in my MSI K8N SLI (7185). During bootup i noticed that my bios reporting that the 6600GT is having a link width of only x1. However when go into windows it reported that i have a x16 link width under the windows advanced tab.
I have the following : MSI K8N (7185)
AMD 3200+ (venice) o/c 2180
APACER DDR400 1Gig RAM
WD SATA 160GB
MSI6600GT 128mb DDR3 o/c Core: 560 Mhz
Ram: 1160 Mhz
Forceware : 77.77, 82.15
My 3D Mark score really sux compared to others that have similiar if not lower that than mine. Plus i even O/C my cpu, ram and graphics cards and yet i still get a low score compared to others. ANd yes my system is stable cause i use Prime95 (blend mode) for 3 hours and i play FEAR and Oblivion without crashing (medium setting of course :P).

Could the link width be the problem??? Can some1 please help me if i can chabge the PCIE link with to x16.

Thanks for the reply. But according to an article on AMD websites, it tells a different story. Here an excerpt of it :
"The PCIE specification defines x1, x2, x4, x8, x12, x16, and x32 link widths. The x1 PCIE link was designed to replace the PCI bus. The x16 link is intended to replace AGP*. The x32 link remains unimplemented.
PCIE's potential bandwidth will change the design of the typical PC and encourage the creation of more bandwidth-intensive applications.

Therefore, my PCIE Link should be x16 since x16 is designed for graphic cards??? Isnt x1 tells us the bandwith throughput isntead of how many cards it can support???
Can someone explain to me in more detailed manner regarding thsi issue and wether my MB got it wrong in assigning my VGA card to x1 instead of x16?. Also on MSI website it listed the 6600GT as a PCIEx16 device.
Please help as any help is very much appreciated.

Output volume seems low.

I have checked system prefs and volume is all the way up, but just seems low. I am using Harmon Kardon sound sticks. Any thoughts?

Are you running on a Retina machine? The lastest updates to Office 2011 support Retina display native mode - have you gone under the Help menu to see if there are updates available?

If I got your query right, do you mean you don't have all the options in the Accordion Options panel as pictured below?
If the above is true, can you try re-inserting the Accordion panel and check if the options then become available for you. Also, please check if you're running the latest version of Muse i.e. 4.1.8 as on today.
If the problem persists, please try creating a new Muse project and see if you are able to replicate the behaviour on a fresh Muse site as well.

Problem of PCI express link width and speed

I instantiate the pci express core v1.7 into a pci express endpoint and the core was configured as GEN I x8 or GEN II x4. By using the example design Xilinx offered in the ipcore dir, I could read and write device by PIO mode.
However, when I check the device’s link width and speed by using lspci –vvvv in Linux, I found that no matter what configurations I set, the device link is always trained as GEN I x1, which means the throughput of device, reduce 8 times. May the most important problem is that all logic in the user layer upon transaction layer are written at 250MHz, and if link width and speed are limited 2.5G/T and x1, I need to change user logic circuit which is a huge work.
So my question is how to change the PCI express link width and speed in OS side, or I need to change a new motherboard?
(I guess it related with motherboard, and I check that the PCI express slot in motherboard support GEN II X16. Another issue, when I insert a PCI express GEN II x8 device, the device is also trained as GEN I x1).

Here is my problem. I had Vga Sapphire x1300. Link width was x16 and everything worked fine. Now I have bought new vga card Sapphire HD2600 XT 256MB and now the PCI-e vga link width is x8. The motherboard is not SLI and there is only one PCI-e x16 slot. The graphic card works and the card itself is x16. PCI-e is x16. So PCI-e vga link width should say x16 as it has with my old card, but it says x8. I have updated BIOS to the latest version. I have searched the manual but I didn't find anything about setting up the graphic card bus. BIOS has setting for PCIE Spread Spectrum which can be set to "Down Spread" or "Disabled". The second setting for PCIE is PCIE Clock which can be in range from 100-145MHz. I didn't changed these settings because with an old card everything worked fine, and I don't know what these settings mean. Are one of this two settings related to my problem? I haven't overclock any of my components.
Can someone please help me or suggest what to do?

Two Gainward 6800 Ultras in SLi mode - PCIe VGA Link Width: 8x

I have a K8N Diamond SLi board with two Gainward 6800 Ultras. When I have just one card inserted I get "PCIe VGA Link Width: 16x" in the BIOS, but when I have both cards in I get only "PCIe VGA Link Width: 8x", is this correct?
I also get a shaky/trembling display in everything direct3d when I'm in SLi mode, as soon as I turn it off the image is rock solid. It's like the complete image on screen shifts one vertical pixel line up and then back to normal again.. this happens at regular intervals while playing games and it's very annoying :\ Any ideas?

Check your BIOS configurations concerning SLI settings, PCI-E settings and so forth. Have you run any benchmarks with the SLI and Balance Bar modes enabled? You will find both in nVidia Settings! That should tell you if any one card is not pushing it's load!

PCIe comes up but link width is reduced

using Vivado to implment on a Kintex-7 device a PCIe hard core. Got to load and have our linux machine recognize the device. It can see that it is a 4x width device but the LnkSta is 1x. user_link_up is high and when going through debug guide (AR 56616), it only give direction if user_link_up is high and core not seen. I can see the core and my user_link_up is high so any ideas of things to try to debug this.
Should note this is a new board design not on a Dev. board .

I seem to recall debugging a similar issue and finding that you can get a little more information on why the additional lanes did not link up. In my case it happened quite early in the process and I found that the boards were mis-manufactured with some lanes coupled with 10 nF caps instead of the required 100 nF caps. These need to be sized correctly for the PCIe lane detection scheme where the transmitters sense the load to determine which lanes are physically connected.

Seemingly low volume for X-Fi Xtrememu

Today, the second time I booted up my computer I began to receive an interesting problem. My audio worked to some extent, but the volume was exceedingly low. I had to put my ear right next to the speakers to hear anything. I pulled out my headphones and plugged them in -- Same result, low volume. When I disabled the X-Fi and enabled my onboard audio, the volume was crystal clear and worked perfectly fine. I didn't change any software, drivers, hardware, or anything of that sort within the two reboots either.
I checked the obvious and made sure my volume was high in the X-Fi configuration panel, the windows panel, and my media players. Everything was maxed out. When I turned up my volume to the maximum on my speakers I could hear things better, but it was horribly distorted and sounded as if they were being over dri'ven. Normally I never have to increase the volume on the speakers much to hear anything, their usually on about 20-30% and I hear them perfectly fine.
I posted about this before on another site and It was recommended I try installing the latest drivers. So I decided to do an uninstall of the X-Fi drivers for good measure and, after rebooting, I installed the drivers and rebooted once more as it prompted me. The same exact result as before: sound that seems to have very low volume. After this, they recommended I try a different PCI slot as it may be damaged. I tried the other PCI slot and I had the same exact results as before. I did not want to install the card into the slot right next to my video card because it looked like the fan would be right up against the PCB of the X-Fi and that it might impede air flow and cause both cards to overheat.
Does anyone know what might be the problem? I'm using the latest drivers I saw (September 9th I believe) and the X-Fi has worked great for the past week and a half. I really don't want to have to own a $00 paperweight and revert to onboard audio.

Bump.. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've made a list of all the fixes I've attempted
- Checked the volume in Creative's console, the Windows volume control in my tray bar, and in the Control Panel under "Audio and Sound devices"
- Made sure default device was the X-Fi
- Made sure the speakers was plugged in the right spot
- Made sure the speakers weren't faulty (I tested with a pair of head phones and on my iPod)
- Made sure I had the latest drivers
- Did the diagnostic, didn't help
- Did a system restore that made things worse
- Switched the PCI slot the sound card was in
- Tried onboard audio and found the audio there worked fine (I don't want onboard audio and a $00 paper weight though)
- Made sure onboard audio was uninstalled and disabled
- Posted on the creative labs forums and got no replies
- Safe Mode doesn't even recognize the Sound card
I'm pretty sure this isn't something stupid like "Is the volume turned up?"

Text Line Width Seems to Vary

I'm creating a book, the theme is 'Travel', the page layout is 'Introduction' choice 4. On some of the pages using this layout the text is full width. On other pages using the same layout, the text does not go full width - it seems to only go about 2/3 of the way across the page and then moves to a new line. The text fonts and sizes are the same.
Does anyone know how to get them all to be the same width (preferably full)?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I tried to duplicate your issue with several Intro pages and could not. Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, from your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again. You might have to add a new Intro page and then cut and past the text from the older page.

The link operates the same as other (graphic) applications:
- when w and h are linked, it constrains the proportion, no matter which dimension is altered.
- when unlinked, altering either dimension is independant from the other.
Relative Markers (four squares: top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right) dictate element position relative to
- Stage (Global): measured from the assigned X/Y coordinates (px/%)
- Container (Applied): measured from the assigned L (left) /T (top) values (px/%)
So your sample screenshot says (roughly)
- Position realtive to the R (Right) at 575 px and B (Bottom) at 7376 px of the cantainer element.
- Both Position/Size units is px, so that says movement will be fixed/static (non-fliud).

Siri volume seems low - any way to increase it?

I just got a new iPhone 5 today and am trying Siri for the first time. It seems to work ok, but the volume of Siri's voice seems quite low to me.
The speakers on the iPhone 5 itself are ok because I can play music in iTunes very loudly, so it's not the general volume settings or the speakers. It seems to be just Siri's voice.
Is there any way to increase Siri's voice volume?

Never mind. I see. Siri simply has it's own volume and you can adjust it while in Siri itself. It was set low by default.

Disply Brightness on new 15" 2.5 GHz MBP Seem Low

Hello - I just bought a new 15" 2.5 GHz MBP, I exchanged it for the 2.4 I bought a week ago. The MBP is connected to a 23" Cinema Display, and all seems good. It seems that the brightness settings on the MBP are darker than on the 23". When I have the brightness slider in the same position for the Display and on the MBP - in the middle lets say, the MBP is noticably darker. It seems that the display was brighter (whiter whites) on the 2.4 that I had previously. Also when I slide the brightness slider all the way to the left on the MBP the screen goes completely dark, where as on the 23" Display it gets dark but I can still see my desktop. I wanted to know if this was normal for the 2.5 MBP or is my display not working properly? Thanks.

Insert you Leopard installer disk and reboot while holding down the 'c' key. Select your language and from the Utilities menu select Disk Utility. Select your hard drive and run Repair Disk.

Linking width of two components

I am building an app for my coursework that uses geoRss feeds.On the left of my frame i have two panels.
Top one contains a JTree and is scrollable
Bottom one contains an image of fixed Size.
I am using a gridBag layout.
I want to constrain the Top panel so that it is always the same width as the image even when the frame is resized.
I want the top window to always fill the remaining height that the Image doesnt take up.
I dont have much experience with the gridBag layout but i think that if i can get the top panel to be fixed to the width of the Image then i can use weighy to ensure it fill the remaining space?

The GridBagLayout is the most difficult layout manager to use.
Read the Swing tutorial on [Using Layout Managers|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/TOC.html] for examples of each layout.
Sounds like you can use a BorderLayout. Add the tree to the CENTER and the image to the SOUTH.
