Arg: Can't restore shuffle "unknown Error 1418"
Can't drag purchased music to iTunes. Troubleshooting says restore shuffle to default, but can't.
Already authorized, de-authorized, removed CS folder, etc. iTunes is wedged!

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
Error 3002: If you experience this error while updating an iPod touch (2nd generation) or iPhone 3G, please use the standard update or restore process in iTunes (click Update or Restore).
Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again.
Error 3194: You may not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes. If the issue persists, follow the steps above in "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com".
Error 3004: If you are using a Mac, you may be able to resolve an error 3004 by quitting iTunes and using the following command at the command line: dscacheutil -flushcache -

I am a new IPOD user as of Valentine's day when my wife bought me this new gadget. I purchased and downloaded a book from the internet the first time and things worked fine. Today I spent hours trying to reconnect and download some additional books and music. I got the error message above and tried the common fixes.. using a different port, rebooting the Computer, using the Hold Button on and off, etc. Nothing seems to help. This unit is less than a month old... Maybe it is me since this unit is less than 1 month old? Please help.

Unknown Error 1418 when restoring ipod
I hope someone can help me fix my Ipod problem. I have the first edition of the U2 Ipod and when I was in Ireland it malfunctioned. I took it to an Apple Store today and they restored it to factory setting using a mac. Well I brought it home, I did what the man at the store said to do and downloaded 7.0 and then when prompted tried to restore the Ipod using Windows. When I did the message "Could not restore ipod, unknown error (1418)" appeared. Does anyone know what this means and what my next step should be?
I am so close to being able to have my Ipod fixed and put my music back into it but I cannot get past this stupid error message. Does anyone know whether he screwed up my Ipod by formatting it using a Mac or what I should do next? The man said my Ipod was corrupted by something, could this be the problem? iphone 3gs shows activation required, hooked up to iTunes and it is not recognized. Did the restore but just gets to the end and gives an error message it could not be restored, an unknown error occurred (-1). Can someone assist me in next steps please?
Instructions to get the phone back working temporary.. till there is a real fix.
1. turn off the phone
2. fire up iTunes
3. press and hold the home button, plug in the cable, hold till you get to see the recovery mode
4. iTunes will the allow to choose restore the phone back to 5.0.1 ( no other choice)
5. iTunes will then ask you to choose which previous backup to would like to recover.
(note: please do not reboot your phone unless necessary, i realize at times after reboot, it goes back to sq1) -

That usually indicates a hardware failure. Make an appointment at the genius bar and have them look at it.

Error 1015 is typically related to downgrading software.
Is your iPhone jailbroken or hacked? If so, it's likely "bricked".
If not, the highest iOS the iPhone can use is version 4.2.1. -

Hi if any one could help me asap i would be very grateful… the problem is:
i have a ipod photo 20gb, i try to restore it from itunes 7 and half way of restore it show me this message "unknown error 1418".
After that i try to reset my ipod, it restart, show a apple logo than displays a folder icon with an exclamation point, and it keep repeat this process and i cant even shut it down.One more voice! I did the whole uninstall thing with iTunes 7 and carefully removed every last vestige of Apple crap. When I reinstalled it, the restore progress bar took a lot longer to fail (like 5 min. compared to 15 sec. prior) but still snubbed the 1418 error at me.
Since this is an HP shuffle, Apple won't even give me the time of day, even though it is a shuffle, just like any other, but it has an HP graphic on the back. The HP support people (in Bangalore?) so far have not been much help. Oh, the Apple technical arrogance.... -
i have an apple 3g, tried to upgrade it to a 4.2 version, (previously it was 4.1). it wasnt successful, the computer asked us to restore it to the version which was last operational, and while restoring an error message appeared "the iphone could not be restored, an unknown error occured

Plug your iPhone into iTunes and update it to the latest supported version, which is 4.2.1.

Yesterday I connected my iPhone 4 to my Windows 7 laptop, and went through to install the latest security update for iPhone through iTunes. When it was installing the software update, the phone froaze, and then this happened:"the iphone could not be restored an unknown error occurred (2)"
Now, I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Bonjour and iTunes, to no avail. I have done the iPhone reboot method, and the phone will be identified as "iPhone" but not recognised as mine. iTunes states this phone is in recovery mode and I have tried numerous times to restore it.
Windows doesn't detect the phone while this is happening. It will not restore and the error is still popping up. I have followed as many threads to rectify this but nothing seems to be working.
I can resore it on my iMac but the reset date for the iPhone on this computer is six months old.

That will make a difference on Windows computers. After that, try and reconnect and restore. -
My iPhone 3GS 16gb, is stuck in restore mode, downloaded and tried to do a restore multiple times. Keep getting an error The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. Unknown error occured (-1). Cannot get it out of restore mode, keeps rebooting!

If you want to solve your problems, unjailbreak. And don't do it again, because jailbreaking causes problems as you read about in that article. You can try Recovery Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
