Arial Font Issue

I have been creating some technical manuals from FrameMaker using the print method. I have the print driver set up to embed all fonts. After the DPF has gone through reviews the PDF must be deited to provide an issue date and an inserted date before posting on the web. We have been using the touch up text tool w/Arial font as the security settings that are required do not allow for protecting the text from the typewriter tool. On some documents we were getting the warning that "the original font is not available..." becausse of the difference in how windows/Acrobat read the installed font. The text goes in the document just fine but in other places what was perfectly good text will change spacing to L    ook Li  ke     This.
The Arial fonts I have been using are getting embedded as ArialMT. I understand that the Windows reads the Aril font as Arial but that it's real name is ArialMT, the MT standing for the producer, Monotype. when the touch up text tool is used it sees the Arial font as Arial and since that is not the embedded font hence the error message. I have found that setting the property in the printer drivers printing preferences "rely on system fonts only..." to unchecked allows the Arial font to be embedded as Arial instead of ArialMT. (I put this part in case it can help someone else). This setting gets rid of the warning but in either setting the touch up text tool still embeds a new Arial (CID) font. Does anyone know how to stop this??

Try going to Applications/Font Book and validating the font. There may be option to do that in Font Explorer.

I am having problems with the arial font. Does it come with Tiger?
I do not see it in the System/Library/Fonts/ folder.
Does it come with Tiger? It is a universal font and I was wondering what I should do to have it available.

The list of fonts that come with Tiger is here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301332
As you can see, Arial should be in Library/Fonts.

  • Arial font issue in Apple Mail

    I'm a designer.
    I have a MacPro tower running 10.9.5
    Apple Mail 7.3
    and FontExplorer X Pro 4.2.1
I've had issues with fonts (as one does with so many) and finally got the cache cleaned up for one issue when a new one has popped up.
I have my mac restart every night, and it my login apps are Mail and Font Explorer.
When Mail first opens, my unread messages number in the sidebar are shown in "Last Resort" and the sender's email is shown as all pound signs.
Sometimes to fix this I quit mail, go into FontExplorer and turn Arial on and off, and then re-open Mail. Sometimes I can get it to fix itself by quitting and re-opening Mail a few times.
It's not a massive issue, but it is pretty annoying to see first thing in the morning!
Other than rebuilding my 6k font library, any suggestions on what's happening?

Try going to Applications/Font Book and validating the font. There may be option to do that in Font Explorer.

  • Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold Font issue

    Good afternoon,
We currently have Adobe Creative Suite 5 and the issue I'm having is with InDesign. Here's a description of the problem:
We've been using InDesign on Windows XP for some time and have not had any issues using the Arial Narrow or Arial Narrow Bold fonts. However, we recently purchased a Windows 7 PC and installed CS5 on it. Whenever the user on this new PC opens up an InDesign document, that was created on Windows XP w/ the mentioned fonts, an error comes up stating that the listed fonts (Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold) are not available on the system and that substitute fonts will used. So then I have the option to replace the missing fonts with other fonts, which I am able to replace with the Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold fonts that are already in the Windows 7 font folder. So it's almost like InDesign see's the fronts from XP and Windows 7 as two different things. I checked the version numbers on both fonts and they are the same (2.40).
Does anybody have any ideas? I've googled the issue and Adobe actually says that this is a Microsoft problem and is related to Office 2007 installing the Arial fonts with extra properties, wherein a hotfix is provided by Microsoft to resolve the issue. I've applied this hotfix and it does not do anything. I've also copied the fonts from the Windows XP machine and replaced the Windows 7 fonts with this, as well as vice versa, but this also does not resolve the issue.
Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
    LMK

I found a solution for myself. Regenerate in ttf by defalt all 4 arial narrow fonts with Fontlab Studio without any changes to fonts info or structure. Then install them into system (Windows/Fonts). Clean old arial narrows files before. Then do search for adobefnt*.lst on system disk. Delete those files (only .lst not .db or any other). Great! Works perfectly in all adobe apps! Shows all names in arial family submenue.

  • PDF Format Oracle Reports font issue

My process is generating the batch oracle Reports.
    Their key map is:
    Key1: %* server=server1 userid=xxxs/xxx@xxxx report=D:\sample.rdf destype=file desformat=PDF
My process is calling IAS server to generate report. IAS ser is generating and saving the report in the specified location.Reports are running on the server locally and DESTYPE=FILE. So the Oracle Reports output is saved on the server itself. Whenever i open the report on my machine/server i have font issue. Some of the reports has very tiny font. It seems the reports generated by using oracle reports which is Arial Unicode font type is causing the problem. If any reports other then Arial Unicode font like Arial Westrn, those reports are fine. We have 1000s of reports. So we don't want to change each report font type. For me it seems the issue is with the font on the server. Is there anyway to ask App server use Arial Westrn if Arial Unicode not found. How to make these configuration changes in the server. Any suggestions please.

Maybe this helps or at least points you in some direction ...
Have a look at font aliasing when configuring Application Server : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_font.htm#i1006140
If your Application Server is located on Windows I would suggest to install the fonts there.
In Unix, this a more complex task.

  • Font issue between Reports Designer and Report Output

    Hi.
I've succesfully migrated several reports from 6i to 10g (10.1.2.0.2) with and without parameter form. However, I have the following font issue:
    - When report is run from Reports Designer, font is kept.
    - When report is run from a forms module (through rwserver on the same machine, that is not really from an application server, but using Oracle BC4J or Developer Suite enviroment) the report output is different. In this case a bigger font is displayed and occasional truncation happens for some fields.
The question is: How can i avoid this difference in font behaviour?. Is it font.ali related?. How come this happen on the same machine(Windows XP)? These reports are to be deployed on Linux, where reasonably, and font machine is expected to happen.
    Font used: Arial (Occidental) 9

this might be an issue with the printer that is associated also, and the permissions to the printer that you might have..
login to the application server machine and restart the reports server as an admin..try running the reports via the URL..i have a feeling that this issue might be somethiing to do with the permission(s) to the printer from your AS machine

  • Preview : problem with PDF and Arial font

I receive PDF files from my telco; the PDF use the Arial font, which they embed in the PDF. Not an ideal choice, but I can't change this.
Problem : when I display the file in Preview (OS X 10.5.6), large parts of the text do not appear. The file can correctly be displayed with Adobe Reader on the same Mac, on other machines (Windows PC with various PDF viewers) or in GMail. The issue really seems to be related to the "Preview" application.
Any idea on what causes this? Are there limitations on the PDF files that Preview can display ?

Not necessarily! Because there are many places fonts can reside in Leopard, multiple versions of the same named font may be present. This is especially true for fonts that may come with multiple software installs like Arial (commonly installed by Microsoft Office). The system may not always choose the most recent font. It is a simple matter to check in Font Book for conflicts.

  • Acrobat 7 Pro - Comment Summary Font Issue

We have a situation involving font usage in comments in Acrobat 7 Pro that I hope someone can shed some light on. It will be some time before we can move to version 8 or 9, so the problem is important to us.
Here's the symptom, then I have a few basic background questions. The text in a Note comment includes a 'less than or equal to' symbol which appears correctly. The problem comes when the comments are summarized to a PDF file or printed. The 'equal to' portion has now disappeared! I first thought that this might be a font issue, but now am unsure.
    My basic questions are:
What font is Acrobat using when a comment is created? I realize that you can set a preference for which font to use when viewing comments, but apparently not when creating them?
When a comment summary is created to a PDF file, what determines which font is used in the summary? We have seen cases where the resulting PDF has used Arial or Tahoma or SimSun or.........
We have had at least one situation where opening the same Acrobat 7 PDF in Acrobat 8 Pro did not exhibit the problem when summarized there. Was this a known issue that was repaired in Acrobat 8?
Thanks much for any information you can provide.

    Hi David,
This is a known issue with Acrobat on Mac.
Please follow the steps mentioned in the KB : http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/blank-eula-screen-appears-acrobat.html

  • Smartform in PDF - Font Issue

    Hi All,
I created a smartform and got the PDF output of the same
    using the function module FOPC_REPORT_SHOW_PDF.
I created a smartstyle using Arial Font (REgular, Size 12)
and I have used this smartstyle in the smartform.
When I displayed the smartform in OTF format I am able to see the exact font maintained in the smartstyle. But when the smartform is converted to PDF; the PDF o/p always displays the default font which is Courier/12.
Can anyone help me in resolving the issue.
    <u>Additional Info</u>
I got the device type (PDF1) using the function module SSF_GET_DEVICE_TYPE and used the device type in the smartform display. When checked in Se73 this device type supports the Arial Font; but this font in SE73 is marked by a yellow line.
    Regards,
    Mathi

    Hi,
You can try this as alternative.
    SmartForms Output to PDF
There is a way to download smartform in PDF format.
    Please do the following:
    1. Print the smartform to the spool.
    2. Note the spool number.
    3. Download a PDF file (Acrobat Reader) version of the spool by running Program RSTXPDFT4 and entering the
    noted spool number.
    feel free to revert back.

  • Arial Font Changed to a different font

Hi, i have a huge problem with the arial font in my macbook pro. It shows something like this in font book about the Arial font:
if you see the background behind font book, you can see that even the font in goole chrome changed. I've tried to reset my macbook pro but nothing is happening.
It also appears as linkin.ttf when i tell it to "show in folder" Thanks for helping. I really don't know what to do right now.
And whenever I check google something this happens:

    Hello jdessie
To fix the issue, I would remove the font from Font Book and make sure completely remove it from your Mac. Once that is done, then I would reinstall OS X Mavericks.  As part of the installation of OS X, Arial will be reinstalled and it will be the correct font that you need.

  • Arial font not showing up

For some reason, the font Arial is not showing up in my documents, most notably Office documents. The folder is there in my Fonts Library and the standard system fonts check out ( I ran the restore standard font function), but still it does not show up. ANythoughts on what is gping on? I am running OS 10.7.

I had this issue with Excel / Office Applications on Lion and Mountain Lion. On deeper investigation using the page referenced by baltwo I found an Arial font that was corrupt / had a size of zero bytes. On removing the corrupt Arial and restarting my issue was resolved.

  • Font issue on windows browsers

    Dear All,
I recently developed a site in Adobe muse, but i realize that when i look at the site on my Mac all font's look good. When i look at the site in a browser on my PC the font doesn't look right. It's a normal Arial font. You can see the issue with the character W. All w's look thinner than the other characters. And the font doesn't look that sharp.
Did I do something wrong with my export?
    http://www.vectar.nl/TEST
    Best regards,
    Dick

On a mac it looks perfect but my client told me that on a PC the font looked unsharp. So I checked on a PC also and see the same problem. Did you check on a PC? All W characters look thinner.
I agree with the font size, but it's still in experimental phase.
    Best regards,
    Dick

  • HT4561 After updating to 10.6.3, I installed the 10.6.8 update just to start experiencing these font issues. HELP! How do I get the fonts to display correctly in my browsers especially (Chrome & Safari)

After updating to 10.6.3, I installed the 10.6.8 update just to start experiencing these font issues. HELP! How do I get the fonts to display correctly in my browsers especially (Chrome & Safari)

What I ended up having to do was open up the Font book & remove duplicates. I knew it was Arial that was causing the problem, so I deleted the duplicate of that font. Inadvertantly I deleted all the Arial regular font, so I had to reinstall one copy. That was the solution. Thanks!

  • Yosemite Safari Font Issue

    Hi!
I just updated to Yosemite and my Safari fonts have been replaced by what appears to be Arial Bold Italics.
Everything looks Bold and Italics, even when I am typing this message.
Can someone help me with this font issue?
    Thanks.

I'm having this issue too. It starts this way and next I will see all the fonts corrupt or change to a bold arial font. I'm totally sick of this. Restarting in safe mode, repair permissions, remove caches and preferences and when that doesn't work, reset Safari. Apple needs to fix this ASAP.
I'm not buying a new mac till they do!
