Arial Font problem

Hi,
I'm having a problem with arial.....it displays as a comic style font. Why is this? I really need to get this sorted ASAP as we have a lot of trade work coming in from other printers, and if they use arial in their artwork it can create some serious problems. PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • Arial Font problems in old pdfs!  {Pics inside}

    Hello all.
    Here is the problem as best I can explain it!
    I have pdf files that were origanally created on a Mac (I am using Win 7) using Arial Narrow font family.  I read all the issues posted
    on the Arial Narrow font problems but none have solved the problem.  Below are screen shots of what I think might be the cause.
    When I look at the properties in Acrobat for the pdf in question here is what fonts show up.
    The only font that displays correctly is Arial-Black true type font.  The Type1 ArialNarrow displays
    as shown in the picture below. One other thing to note:  Notice how ArialNarrow is all one word?
    Is that maybe why Illustrator is having a problem with it?  I have tried to find it with no luck.
    When opened in Illustrator CS2 this is what is displayed.
    The fonts are in my fonts directory both in Windows and Illustrator.  I even loaded the older 2.35
    version that is mentioned all over the net.
    The problem is that I have hunderds of these documents some with over 200 pages each.  I have messed
    with this for several days now and am at a loss as to what to do next.
    Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! ! !

    Substituting fonts in Illustrator using Type>Find font is not going to work.
    If you look at the screenshots you'll see the fonts are CID fonts with custom encoding. The fonts on Marks Computer probably have ANSI encoding (i.e. standard western character set) and the character maps will not match. As a result you will not get legible text but just squares or other things (diamonds, dots etc.)
    Mark sent me a file to look at and below is what I wrote in a direct e-mail to him.
    <quote>
    The problem is that the PDF was made directly from InDesign, which converts the fonts to CID fonts (normally used for Asian fonts like Chinese, Japanese and Korean) and in doing so it created a character map (encoding) that is not compatible with our regular fonts which use the Western Character set (ANSI encoding). Which explains why replacing the embedded font with one on your system doesn't work.
    There is some info on the Adobe website at the following links:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/329/329611.html
    http://indesignsecrets.com/cid-identity-h-fonts-are-back.php
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/324995
    <end quote>
    The CID charachter problem also exists in Acrobat 7 and 8, but got solved in Acrobat 9.
    The only thing that worked to get a PDF with readable and editable text was to use an OCR program (Abby FineReader in my case, but Omnipage can do the same) to process the PDF and in doing so the embedded fonts were basically OCR'ed using system fonts and then saving it again as a PDF had basically the same effect as replacing the embedded fonts by system fonts. After that opening the PDF in Illustrator gave normal text and the file could be edited. Though Serif DrawPlus did a better job in opening the PDF as an editable file.
    In this case the OCR route is an option because the PDF file contained a table. If it had been a drawing the OCR option might be less useful depending on how the OCR software would handle the drawing part, unless getting the text out of the PDF and reinsert it into the drawing would be sufficient.
    Maybe the above info is of some use for those who are dealing with the same problem.

    Pages 08 fonts- problems with Arial, Times New Roman - how do I repair them?
    Using 10.6.8 on MacBook Pro

    I am running Snow Leopard. Transferring the same texts to TextEdit has no problems, so this is a Pages problem, I think.  Corruption of Times New Roman and Arial fonts, I suspect, but where? and what do I do about it? I just need to be pointed to a source of advice, I think.
    Thanks

  • Preview : problem with PDF and Arial font

    I receive PDF files from my telco; the PDF use the Arial font, which they embed in the PDF. Not an ideal choice, but I can't change this.
    Problem : when I display the file in Preview (OS X 10.5.6), large parts of the text do not appear. The file can correctly be displayed with Adobe Reader on the same Mac, on other machines (Windows PC with various PDF viewers) or in GMail. The issue really seems to be related to the "Preview" application.
    Any idea on what causes this? Are there limitations on the PDF files that Preview can display ?

    Not necessarily! Because there are many places fonts can reside in Leopard, multiple versions of the same named font may be present. This is especially true for fonts that may come with multiple software installs like Arial (commonly installed by Microsoft Office). The system may not always choose the most recent font. It is a simple matter to check in Font Book for conflicts.

  • Arial font rendering problem in AIR

    Hi,
        I am new to flex. I have a problem in rendering arial font in Label in AIR application.
    I have attached the screen shot.The letter W has been cutted.
    Regards,
    Jayagopal.

    OK, I eventualy discover that Java uses its own font configuration, and look for the fonts in /usr/share/fonts/TTF. As I use Bohoomil bundle fonts, which does not install fonts in this directory, Java wasn't finding the right fonts.
    Copying the DejaVu family in /usr/share/fonts/TTF solved the problem.

  • Opening Adobe AI file shows fonts error "font problem....Gen.Arial and Gen.Arial.Bold".

    Currently I have Adobe AI files that generate "Font Problem" message when they are opened.
    The error specific as follow:
    Gen.Arial: Font not found on the system: missing font has been substituted.
    Gen.Arial.Bold: Font not found on the system: missing font has been substituted.
    HelveticaNeue-Condensed: Font not found on the system: missing font has been substituted.
    The document uses fonts or characters which are not available or are in a different format than originally specified.
    I continue with opening the file and everything else looks ok. I have tried searching for the fonts but could not locate. I even performed Type>Find Font and replaced all missing fonts and still get the above error when re-opening the file.
    Not sure how to resolve this issue.
    Thanks for all the help.

    Thanks for the help....if it is not too much to ask can you please give the step you applied to troubelshoot? I am on the IT side and helping the user who is working with the AI files.
    If I am not mistaken the charts might have been copied from other programs and maybe led to this issue.  Not sure about a redo since there many more files with same problem.  Is it possible to apply fix to each file and then save?
    Thanks.

  • ARIAL FONT IN REPORTS(WINDOWS), NOT SHOWN CORRECTLY UNDER LINUX

    Our Reports are developed under Windows (Report Builder 9.0.4.0.33 and Windows 2000/Windows XP) and generated under Linux (IAS 10.1.2.0.2 with Red Hat Advanced Server). The Report Output is a PDF, that will be downloaded by the user with WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT. This works fine, but fonts are not shown correctly in the PDF, especially ARIAL, which is the font we use.
    I have run the Fontsolution Configuration Script from Metalink, but we still have a problem.
    When you look at the font.pdf, wich is the testreport from fontsolutions, some sizes and styles of Arial are printed correctly others not.
    Arial 8 is ok, but Arial 10 and Arial 12 are something like Times New Roman.
    Arial 12 Bolded is correct, but Arial 12 italic and Arial 12 bold italic are also not
    the Arial Font.
    How can we correct this problem?
    Regards
    Udo

    # The <Face> must be the name (string/identifier) of a font face. The

    # helvetica...Bold.. = "Arialb.ttf"
    # helvetica..Italic... = "Ariali.ttf"
    # helvetica..... = "Arial.ttf"
    # If helvetica..... entry appears in the top of the list, all the styles of

    If you want to make platform independent use of fonts, you have to use the family, such as sans serif.
    Arial is owned by monotype (http://monotype.com/). You have to contact them if you wish to redistribute it with your application. They also might have a suitable version that renders nicely under linux.

  • Font problem creating WORD document with Oracle Reports 8i/9i

    I created a report using different Arial fonts. Once the report is generated from a .NET application, the fonts in the word document are changed apparently into Helvetica. This disarrange my lay-out completely. How can I solve this problem?
    (NB. when I generate a PDF, there is no problem!)

    By the way. I create the files in this way:
       private void createFile(String outFileName) {
          try {
             ByteArrayInputStream result = clientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
             File newFile = new File(outFileName);
             FileOutputStream output = new FileOutputStream(newFile);
             int bytesRead = 0;
             byte[] byteArray = new byte[10000];
             while ((bytesRead = result.read(byteArray)) != -1) {
                output.write(byteArray, 0, bytesRead);
             output.flush();
             output.close();
          } catch (Exception e) {
             e.printStackTrace();

  • PDF and Font Problems 10.6.8

    Ugh.
    MBP13 7,1 (mid 2010) 2.4g C2D 4G Ram
    I use Vectorworks 2011 to produce CAD drawings for customers and the plant. Recently I began having issues with my PDFs of my CAD not being fully distilled - various issues but primarily most dimensions not visible. I have read that PDF issues cropped up beginning with 10.6.7 and that certain PS fonts can be the issue. As well as outdated PDF readers used by my recipients. In a short-sighted fit of frustration I began monkeying with Font Book and Font Caches.
    My maladies are
    1. My PDFs are incomplete
    2. Received MS Office filed open "blank".  Now MS OFFICE 2011 no longer has common Fonts such as Arial and Times Nee Roman.
    Can I fix this or do I need to go back to 10.6.6 and reinstall Office?
    Thanks in advance.
    BTW this forum is surprising difficult to nav on an iPhone.

  • Font Problem using 8.1.3 on OpenSuSE 10.3

    I just installed the rpm AdobeReader_enu-8.1.3-1.i486.rpm that I downloaded from the Adobe web site. After installing it, when I open a PDF I get a pop-up that says:
    Cannot find or create the font 'Arial.Italic'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.
    I looked for installed Arial fonts and found these:
    /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ariali.ttf
    /usr/share/fonts/truetype/arial.ttf
    /usr/share/fonts/truetype/arialbd.ttf
    /usr/share/fonts/truetype/arialbi.ttf
    Any thoughts?

    I fixed this problem by uninstalling the version downloaded from the web site and installed a version found on a mirror using the SuSE package installer.

  • Font problem in Photoshop CS5 ?

    If i open my psd in CS4 and try to edit it it's ok, the Arial font doesn't change, but when i try in CS5, it's another story. The same font looks much compress.
    Can somebody explain what's the problem here ?

    I am sorry for your inconvenience.
    Yes, we already received kerning problem (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2819866).
    This issue may be solved if you change:
    - Font anti-aliasing NONE to Sharp/Crisp/Strong/Smooth
    - Fractional Widths to System Layout (Character panel > show more option)
    Hope this helps.

  • Arial Font accidently Replaced

    Hi All,
    I'm having a problem with the "ARIAL" font on my powermac G4. It seems that I have replaced the font. I don't know how it happened. All I remember doing was installing graffiti fonts.
    Now the computer has replaced the arial font with a graffiti font that I have installed. I've tried everything I can think of and cannot fix this problem. I even check the font in the font library and it shows up as normal. Can someone help with this?

    Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
    Anytime your Fonts have an anomaly, try trashing the preference file.
    Go here: MacintoshHD/Users/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate this file:
    com.apple.FontBook/plist drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. It's ok to trash a pref file as your Mac will create a new one for you.

  • Arial Font Changed to a different font

    Hi, i have a huge problem with the arial font in my macbook pro. It shows something like this in font book about the Arial font:
    if you see the background behind font book, you can see that even the font in goole chrome changed. I've tried to reset my macbook pro but nothing is happening.
    It also appears as linkin.ttf when i tell it to "show in folder" Thanks for helping. I really don't know what to do right now.
    And whenever I check google something this happens:

    Hello jdessie
    To fix the issue, I would remove the font from Font Book and make sure completely remove it from your Mac. Once that is done, then I would reinstall OS X Mavericks.  As part of the installation of OS X, Arial will be reinstalled and it will be the correct font that you need.

  • Arial fonts in the headings of my website pages are distorted in FF4

    I have heading at the top of my web pages using Arial font and this has been without problem for over ten years in any browser.
    The Arial font looks fat in FF4.
    Is this an issue with special coding needed for FF4 web-pages, or could it be that my ISP needs to have their servers optimized for FF4?

    Thanx for your suggestions.
    However, changing the Use hardware acceleration makes no difference.
    When trying to access about:config I get the following: "Navigation to the webpage was canceled - What you can try: Retype the address. ?!?
    I've never had to tune a browser previously and if I have to do this then all FF4 users are going to have to do the same to see my webpages as they appear on any other browser :-((
