Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold Font issue

Good afternoon,
We currently have Adobe Creative Suite 5 and the issue I'm having is with InDesign. Here's a description of the problem:
We've been using InDesign on Windows XP for some time and have not had any issues using the Arial Narrow or Arial Narrow Bold fonts. However, we recently purchased a Windows 7 PC and installed CS5 on it. Whenever the user on this new PC opens up an InDesign document, that was created on Windows XP w/ the mentioned fonts, an error comes up stating that the listed fonts (Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold) are not available on the system and that substitute fonts will used. So then I have the option to replace the missing fonts with other fonts, which I am able to replace with the Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold fonts that are already in the Windows 7 font folder. So it's almost like InDesign see's the fronts from XP and Windows 7 as two different things. I checked the version numbers on both fonts and they are the same (2.40).
Does anybody have any ideas? I've googled the issue and Adobe actually says that this is a Microsoft problem and is related to Office 2007 installing the Arial fonts with extra properties, wherein a hotfix is provided by Microsoft to resolve the issue. I've applied this hotfix and it does not do anything. I've also copied the fonts from the Windows XP machine and replaced the Windows 7 fonts with this, as well as vice versa, but this also does not resolve the issue.
Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
LMK

I found a solution for myself. Regenerate in ttf by defalt all 4 arial narrow fonts with Fontlab Studio without any changes to fonts info or structure. Then install them into system (Windows/Fonts). Clean old arial narrows files before. Then do search for adobefnt*.lst on system disk. Delete those files (only .lst not .db or any other). Great! Works perfectly in all adobe apps! Shows all names in arial family submenue.

  • IWeb 3.0.4- missing fonts –Arial MT and Arial BOLD

When using iWeb 3.0.4 I'll get the missing two fonts –Arial MT and Arial BOLD– error messages on every single page. This font is NOT in use and I don't have a working version as replacement on my font folder. I don't want to buy it to get rid of the problem. Anybody knows how can i get ride of those without using pacifist ? Thanks.

I believe those fonts are Microsoft fonts.  Do you have MS Office or any other MS software installed?
    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder. -  you've already tried this.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.
It is now generally acknowledged that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
All of these issues can be solved with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • Bold Font issues in osx 10.5.8

We are having problems in all browsers and dreamweaver where all system fonts are displaying bold. We've tried resetting some preferences and made sure that the font's we're obviously in the fonts library. We also re installing some of the fonts. This still did not help.
Another colleague is also experiencing the same problem on his imac at home.
Can anyone help with this issue?

I was extremely careful in turning them On.
They are very shy about their picture being taken.
They are a bit unhappy about being on a public URL

  • Bold Font issues in Safari

Since installing leopard on my Mac Pro Quad my safari highlight font has changed to a really Black Condensed font like Helvetica Compressed or Inserat, not sure which, and the letterspacing is really tight making it illegible most of the time.

Please help cant work out why!!!
It doesn’t do it in Camino etc.. just Safari!

Fixed it now found so older forum fixes.
I completely removed all the fonts from my suitcase which cleared any font conflicts rebooted safari and suitcase and it didn’t fix it. But restarted the Mac and it did so make sure you reboot the machine afterwards!

  • 10.5.2 and Helvetica and Helvetica Narrow

in the installation on the desktop with Font Book I see Helvetica which includes Helvetica Narrow and Helvetica Narrow Bold
In the installation on the MBP there is no Helvetica Narrow and Helvetica Narrow Bold in Helvetica
why does it exist on one and not the other?
    thank you

Something just dawned on me. Who has "any" M$ "Microsoft" apps or suites installed. I know that M$ installs a ton of fonts. But that they should not and have not caused a conflict until 10.5.2.
As I have said, I see a conflict being shown in FontBook, but it is unable to resolve it. So if it knows there is a problem, why not be able to resolve it?
There was a thread that detailed what fonts went where and who they belonged to. It told how to disable fonts that are not necessary and how to set up for different third party font managers to keep conflicts from happening or to fix ones that were for no reason. If I can find it I'll post the URL. Looks like we need it.
    Until then . . . . .

  • Safari 6.0 font issue

  • ICal Print List Hang / Font Issue / Sync Problems...

Okay, here's a couple issues all wrapped up into one thread/post - reason is cause I suspect they may all be tied together somehow, but am not sure.
    Sync Problems...
Regarding the Syncing problems, you can find an ongoing thread about @ http://forums.markspace.com/viewtopic.php?t=1632
In short, some of us are having issues with events syncing to our Palm to the wrong timezone, causing them to be an hour off (usually within the new & old DST date change). Yes, all the usual fixes have been tried - pls read the thread noting "adairnet" and ymatto" postings.
Also, in addition to this time issue, I have iCal events that I've deleted in iCal still show up on the Palm after one-way syncing!
    Print List Hang...
Every week I print a "list" of events from a certain calendar. The past couple weeks I noticed some lines in the notes field printing on top of each other. Twas odd indeed, but I hadn't had the time to look into the reason. Then this week I was going thru my usual printing proceedure and now iCal locks up, hangs up, crashes, forcing me to force-quit the program. It's usually after I extend the dates beyond 2 or 3 days, but I've not been able to find a consistency. I've redone events thinking they were corrupt with no success.
    Font Problems...
After the Print List issue above, I opened my Console program to see if it was reporting anything. At first it indicated that it could not find Helvetica Neue and would substitute it for Helvetica. This put me in touch with some font corruption - so I got rid of those bad fonts and activated Helvetica Neue which got rid of that message. But made me wonder if there are more font problems causing the print hanging & syncing problems. I have FontAgent Pro and do have some font issues that I'm trying to work out.
But the Console is displaying another string of messages every time the Print List proceedure hangs up which I cannot figure out...
2007-04-24 16:24:54.151 iCal[28975] NSATSGlyphStorage inconsistency. Cannot find run storage for character range {138 67} for CTRun 0xDBE87D0. Ignoring the run...

For apps linked on Tiger this will raise an exception. For earlier apps it will produce this one-time warning and continue with existing behavior (which is undefined).

So, all of this is causing me to wonder if the iCal or SyncServices database is corrupt. Is there a way to dig into the iCal db and check for corruption &/or fix it?
Or does anybody have any further suggestions on any of these issues?
    thanx.jason.

    RedKamel,
The SyncServices folder should be avoided like "a swarm of bees". This article discusses some of the issues that can arise when the SyncServices folder is deleted or modified:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301920
Data loss and Data corruption can result from deleting or modifying the SyncServices folder, and that data loss or corruption can be propogated to devices, .Mac, and other applications that sync with SyncServices.
If you have isolated an issue with the other steps in your post, I would recomend speaking with AppleCare before removing that folder.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Browsers (Firefox etc.) have font issues

Safari can't read all web pages. Mac support suggests Firefox, but when loaded the much of the text reads like this ':=@@*$++?aKHMO=^T6'. When Netscape was downloaded the same issue occurs. Since these issues Safari's speed has degraded significantly.
When I created another account and downloaded Firefox the font issues don't occur. I don't want to move everything to another account. Is there a solution?

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems, make sure that the window is not maximized:

  • InDesign CS6 and Arial Narrow

I have been using CS5, had problems with the Arial Narrow font not showing up as four variations but only one, and eventually got it resolved somehow so that I had a separate font listed as Arial Narrow in the font name drop down list and four variations listed in the other drop down list (all distinct from the Arial font with its four variations). I know I deleted a lot of AdobeFnt*.lst files. I know I tried the hotfix that I found through a lot of Google searching, but it said it didn't apply to my system. Beyond that, I don't know what fixed the problem and I remember it feeling like a lot of trial and error, but eventually I got it solved.
A few days ago I installed CS6 on my system for the first time, and now I've got the same problem back again. I've spent all afternoon trying to resolve it but without any success.
I have three sets of TTF files for Arial Narrow, each set with four files for regular, bold, italic and bold italic. One set is version 2.20, one is version 2.37 and the other is version 2.40. My system is running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.
Does anyone have any idea of what will fix this problem on my system? I have a lot of InDesign documents that use Arial Narrow, so now whenever I open one of them, I have lots of missing font references. If I could get Arial Narrow reinstalled properly once again, they'd all go away.
    Thanks!

This problem is due to the offending fonts having the wrong "Preferred Family" and "Preferred Subfamily" names and it can be corrected using a Font Editor, such as the free version of Type light which can be downloaded from http://www.cr8software.net/typelight.html.
The process I found to work (in Windows 8 with Adobe Indesign CC and Office 2010) is as follows:
Open a File Explorer window and go to the system font library at C:/Windows/Fonts and double click on the Arial font (this has a special icon indicating that it contains multiple subentries)
Copy the fonts for Arial Narrow, Arial Narrow Bold, Arial Narrow Italic and Arial Narrow Bold Italic to a new folder on your desktop
Edit each of these copies using your font editor and change the  Preferred Family and Preferred Subfamily names (in Type light use the menu option Font>Names... then click the Advanced button)
The Preferred Family should be changed to Arial Narrow and the Preferred Subfamily should be either Regular, Bold, Italic, or Bold Italic as per the particular font you are editing (While you are there you could also make similar changes to the Arial Black font which has the same problem - in this case, make Preferred Family Arial Black and Preferred Subfamily Regular)
Save each font file back over the top of the one in the folder on the desktop (Save and replace) then open a new File Explorer window for that folder and drag the changed fonts back into their orginal location at C:/Windows/Fonts/Arial
Open a new File Explorer window and do a search on the C: drive for all instances of AdobeFnt*.lst then delete all of them
    Restart your computer

  • Arial font issue in Apple Mail

    I'm a designer.
    I have a MacPro tower running 10.9.5
    Apple Mail 7.3
    and FontExplorer X Pro 4.2.1
I've had issues with fonts (as one does with so many) and finally got the cache cleaned up for one issue when a new one has popped up.
I have my mac restart every night, and it my login apps are Mail and Font Explorer.
When Mail first opens, my unread messages number in the sidebar are shown in "Last Resort" and the sender's email is shown as all pound signs.
Sometimes to fix this I quit mail, go into FontExplorer and turn Arial on and off, and then re-open Mail. Sometimes I can get it to fix itself by quitting and re-opening Mail a few times.
It's not a massive issue, but it is pretty annoying to see first thing in the morning!
Other than rebuilding my 6k font library, any suggestions on what's happening?

Try going to Applications/Font Book and validating the font. There may be option to do that in Font Explorer.

  • Arial and Time New Roman fonts not embedding in new computer??

I do layout for our publishing company and I have an issue which has me stumped.
I have had no trouble with fonts embedding on my old system (Which I can still use as a backup) It is a laptop with CS4 and Windows vista system. I recently got a desktop which has Windows 7 and now when I am trying to create a postscript file and then convert to PDF, Arial and Times New Roman fonts are never embedded. (using print to postscript file) and use Acrobat Distiller, as our printing company requires both of these steps to create the most sound file for printing books.
I have been using my new computer to create the InDesign file, open it on the other computer (which then I have to go back and fix missing links etc) then create postscript and distill. It is extra steps that can cause extra error. If there is a way to make the fonts embed on my new system it would be great. Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks,
    Cathy

Thanks but I figured out the problem, it was the settings in Adobe Distiller, there was a whole list of fonts, including the
Arial, Timers new Roman and Century Fonts that were in a list title "Never Embed" Lol, I guess that would do it. Problem solved!

  • Arial and Times New Roman fonts gone - Office 2008

About a month ago, I began noticing that I could not see any text or figures in various Excel spreadsheets and Word documents that used Times New Roman or Arial fonts. I had not had a similar problem in the past 3+ years I have owned my Mac Pro with Office for Mac 2008. I can see text after I select the entire document or page or worksheet and change the font - but there has to be a better solution, right?
Times New Roman, for example, appears as a font in the "All Fonts" collection and the "User" collection on my Mac. It does not appear in the "Computer" collection in Font Book, and when I try to drag it there from the "All Fonts" collection (for example), I get an error message that this is a duplicate. Many, many, many, many rounds of validating and deleting fonts have ensued. If the durned font isn't a duplicate, then it gets turned "OFF", and I can't turn it back "ON" without getting an error message again.
Instead of burning 5 more hours on Google trying to figure this out, I thought I would try Discussions... Is there really no other option than trying to explore 4 different font folders on my computer and moving files here and there, thither and yon, etc., etc.?

I upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5 and then to 10.6. On the move to 10.6, I found a number of fonts, including Arial and Times New Roman, that were broken; e.g. would display on the screen in a Word document but appear blank when sent to a printer.
The problem seems to involve conflicts between old and new copies of the same fonts. The solution that worked for me was to find and delete the old ones. Specifically:
Look at /Library/Fonts and /Users/(your_name)/Library/Fonts in two side-by-side finder windows.
Sort both by name, and scroll through the two lists looking for the duplicates.
Note: if one has a file extension such as .ttf or .ttc and the other doesn't, they're still duplicates.
For each duplicate found, verify that the copy in the /Users/(your_name)/Library/Fonts folder is the older of the two (all of mine were); then drag the older one to an empty folder on your desktop.
When you're finished, test to verify that the problem is solved; then delete the folder of old fonts.

  • Font issue: Arabic Transparent/Bold

I initially posted this comment here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/773857?tstart=0 (in the wrong forum) so I'm reposting it here:
In December 2010, I was not having  problems pdf'ing an MS Word document with Arabic Transparent and Arabic  Transparent Bold (a Microsoft font) in it. This week, I'm getting the  following error message:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: ArabicTransparent-Bold cannot be embedded because of licensing restrictions. ]%%
%%[ Font vendor (Glyf) does not permit this font to be embedded in PDF. ]%%
[Warning] The font ArabicTransparent-Bold could not be embedded because of licensing restrictions.
Text may display incorrectly on platforms that do not have this font installed.
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: xshow; ErrorInfo: CharOffsets [1]xJ%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
FYI,  I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 (I aslo have Adobe Design Premium CS4),  Microsoft Word 2007, and Windows XP Professional (version 2002, service  pack 3).
Has there been a recent change to the licensing  restrictions of this font? If licensing is not the issue, what is the  issue and does anyone know of a fix?
    Thanks.

It may be a corrupt font. Our IT group is looking into it. When I change the font to Arial, it pdfs fine.
I tried typing the font directly into InDesign (even though Arabic text does not render correctly unless you're using InDesign ME) and then pdf'ing it. I got the same kind of error message about licensing:
"This font could not be embedded due to licensing restrictions in the font..."
InDesign ended up replacing the font with another one that looks similar. If our IT group fixes this, I'll post the solution. Until then, I'd appreciate all the suggestions/ideas you (and others) have. Thanks.

  • Font issue with InDesign and OS 10.6

I have read quite a bit on this but have found no resolution. We installed OS 10.6 on two of our three G5 Macs at work. We use InDesign CS4 and OS 10.6.5.
When we open an InDesign file that we all share, the machines with 10.6 on it say fonts are missing. (I believe this is a naming convention problem.) I learned that some of the fonts for InDesign should be moved to the InDesign font folder. We did that. That helped on several of the fonts. However, we still have an issue with Helvetica Neue, and Universe (67 or other numbers). I have the same Universe font family listed, but when I go to find 67 or 47, they aren't there.
Anyone else having this problem? Do we need to go in to every document and change the fonts to avoid this error? Is there a better fix?

I have just swapped from an old Mac Mini (using 10.4.11) to the new Mac Mini (using 10.6.6). I did not do any fiddling about fonts. Everything is as it installs. The only thing I did is to resolve duplicate fonts in Font Book.
For convenience, I used Arial for documents. Now when I open an ID document, it says Arial[TT] (as well as bold, italic...) is missing. I checked the Arial ttf group is in /Library/Fonts, but in ID font list, it shows an Open type.
All I want is that the fonts should work, when I open all the InDesign documents (still in CS2 Version) that I created since last five years. I am no techie by any means, what I need is a step-to-step to solve the font issue, so that I can get on work immediately.
Any concrete step-to-step advice is highly appreciated.

  • Font issue between Reports Designer and Report Output

    Hi.
I've succesfully migrated several reports from 6i to 10g (10.1.2.0.2) with and without parameter form. However, I have the following font issue:
    - When report is run from Reports Designer, font is kept.
    - When report is run from a forms module (through rwserver on the same machine, that is not really from an application server, but using Oracle BC4J or Developer Suite enviroment) the report output is different. In this case a bigger font is displayed and occasional truncation happens for some fields.
The question is: How can i avoid this difference in font behaviour?. Is it font.ali related?. How come this happen on the same machine(Windows XP)? These reports are to be deployed on Linux, where reasonably, and font machine is expected to happen.
    Font used: Arial (Occidental) 9

this might be an issue with the printer that is associated also, and the permissions to the printer that you might have..
login to the application server machine and restart the reports server as an admin..try running the reports via the URL..i have a feeling that this issue might be somethiing to do with the permission(s) to the printer from your AS machine
